Precast concrete is an effective method to increase the construction quality and construction speed by optimizing and making the manufacturing conditions similar. In order to more effectively produce a fireproof material-integrated precast duct slab, the purpose of this study was to determine whether the fire resistance performance of the fireproof layer is maintained when a method of increasing the curing rate using a hardening accelerator is used. As a result of performing a fire resistance performance test on specimens classified according to whether or not the hardening accelerator was included, increase of temperature inside the specimen was high in the specimens using the hardening accelerator, and the section loss of the fireproof layer occurred locally on the surface exposed to fire heating. In conclusion, it is judged that the fireproof layer in the case where the strength at 3th day of age is gained within 1 day curing age using a hardening accelerator does not guarantee sufficient fire resistance performance in the conditions used in this study.
The scale effect of specimens on the shear behavior of joints is studied by performing direct shear tests on six different sizes in Granite. The peak and residual shear stress, shear displacement, shear stiffness, and dilation angle are measured with the different normal stress(0.29~2.65MPa) and roughness parameters. It is also shown that both the joint roughness coefficient(JRC) and the joint compression strength(JCS) reduce with increasing joint length. A series of shear tests show about 56~67% reduction in peak shear stress, and about 18~44% in residual shear stress, respectively as the contact area of joint increases from 12.25 to $361cm^2$. Also the variation of dilation angle is $27^{\circ}$ at normal stress of 0.29 MPa and $6^{\circ}$ at normal stress of 2.65 MPa, respectively. The envelopes considering scale effect for JRC are made for the peak shear strength of rock joint in comparison with the Barton's equation.
This study aimed to develop a two-component TSL suitable for reducing dust and guaranteeing homogeneous qualities during its spraying. Its performance was evaluated by a series of laboratory and field tests. High ductility of two-component TSL prototypes resulted in increasing their elongation at break even though their tensile strengths were slightly lower than those of one-component powder TSLs. One prototype of the two-component TSLs developed in this study was verified to satisfy every criterion specified by EFNARC (2008). Especially, it increased the average compressive strength of mortar specimens by 50% even when it coated them only with the thickness of 3 mm. From a preliminary spraying test, a spraying machine suitable for the developed TSL prototype was derived and modified. After its field application, dust and rebound generated during its spraying works were found to be very minimal. Its spraying rate was recorded to be approximately $60m^2/hr$. In addition, it showed a very rapid hardening characteristic compared with general sprayable waterproofing membranes.
LSTM (Long Short-Term Memory) algorithm which is a kind of recurrent neural network was used to establish a model to predict the stress-strain curve of an material under uniaxial compression. The model was established from the stress-strain data from uniaxial compression tests of silica-gypsum specimens. After training the model, it can predict the behavior of the material up to the failure state by using an early stage of stress-strain curve whose stress is very low. Because the LSTM neural network predict a value by using the previous state of data and proceed forward step by step, a higher error was found at the prediction of higher stress state due to the accumulation of error. However, this model generally predict the stress-strain curve with high accuracy. The accuracy of both LSTM and tangential prediction models increased with increased length of input data, while a difference in performance between them decreased as the amount of input data increased. LSTM model showed relatively superior performance to the tangential prediction when only few input data was given, which enhanced the necessity for application of the model.

Paleomagnetic study is carried out to investigate the possibility of remagnetization by dikes in the Cretaceous Gyeongsang Basin. We selected a site for a contact test as a preliminary study, and collected 41 core samples (7 from andesitic dike, 17 from sedimentary rock on the left side of dike and 17 from sedimentary rock on the right side). Magnetite was responsible for the remagnetization based on microscopic observation and demagnetization analysis. Although the increasement of magnetic susceptibility appears on both sides about 100 cm from the dike, the increment of NRM intensity was obtained from the specimens on the left side only. This is interpreted that the size of magnetite newly formed is dominated by superparamagnetic grains in the right side, but by larger than single-domain grains in the left. Reversed polarity component remagnetized by intrusion of dike was also found only for core samples from 116 cm left side of dike but abscent from right side indicating the remagnetization by the dike depends on the geometric shape and width of the dike, which is supported by field observations. The content of epidote is well correlated with remagnetization, and indicates the hydrothermal alteration/metameorphism was activated by the intrusion. We concluded that the above evidences in this study further support thermally-activated chemical origin of the remagnetization with meager contribution of contact metamorphism, and that any significant evidence of regional-scaled remagnetization was not found in the study area.
Modulus measurements in vertical boreholes under simulated horizontal in-situ stress conditions were performed on laboratory rock specimens. The experimental program was focused on the examination of modulus change with the variation of the orientation, magnitude and ratios of horizontal biaxial stresses. The experiment results show that the modulus increases when the magnitude of the horizontal stresses increases. The modulus measured in the minimum principal direction increased when the ratio between the horizontal principal stresses increased, while the modulus measured in the maximum principal direction decreased when the ratio of the horizontal principal stresses increased. These were caused by the tangential stresses that vary depending upon the magnitude of horizontal stresses, the applied pressure and the orientation of measurement. Also, the measured moduli were determined under tensile stress, compressive stress, or both stresses. Thus, the stress effect on deformation modulus should be considered, not only for the interpretation of the results of borehole deformability measurement, but also for the design of underground gas storage and pressure tunnel, and for the interpretation of tunnel monitoring.
The steel ribs which are used to enhance the supporting capability of the shotcrete are estimated to be very effective, but their characteristics depending on the types of steel support are not well understood enough to be considered in the design stage. This paper describes the behavior of the shotcrete reinforced by various types of steel supports. Through flexural toughness test, major strength parameters such as flexural tensile strength, equivalent flexural tensile strength and residual tensile strength were obtained and used in the numerical analyses. Test results show that steel rebar was not as dependable as H-beam or lattice girder but close examination of the test results revealed that the specimen was failed in shear because of the shorter span than desired. Therefore tests on the properly dimensioned specimens are necessary for valid evaluation of the steel rebar reinforced shotcrete. In the first set of numerical stability analyses, shotcrete and steel supports were modelled separately. Then compared with the second set of analyses in which shotcrete and steel supports were regarded as a composite material. The two results coincided reasonably and this equivalent model turned out to be useful.

The purpose of the present study is to determine an optimum composition using cheaper powders keeping with high performance of hard rock cutting diamond saw blade. With 50Fe-20(Cu . Sn)-30Co specimen, a part of Co was replaced by Ni(5%, 10%, and 15%, respectively). These specimens were hot pressed and sintered for predetermined time at various temperature. Sintering is performed by two different methods of temperature controlled method and specimen dimension controlled method. In order to determine the property of the sintered diamond saw blade, 3 point bending tester, X-ray diffractometer, and SEM were used. As the Co in the bond alloy was replaced by Ni, the hardness of the specimen increased. Thus the 50Fe-20(CuㆍSn)-15Co-15Ni specimen showed the maximum hardness of 104(HRB). The results of 3 point bending test showed that flexure strength decreased along with increase in Ni content. This is attributed to the formation of intermetallic compound(Ni$_{x}$Sn) determined by X-ray diffraction. The fracture surface after 3 point bending test showed that diamond was fractured in the specimen containing 0%, 5%, and 10%Ni, and the fracture occurred at the interface between diamond and matrix in the specimen containing 15%Ni. The cutting ability test showed that the abrasive property was not changed in the specimen containing 0%, 5%, and 10%Ni. The optimum composition determined in this study is 50Fe-20(CuㆍSn)-20Co-10Ni.
This paper is to provide the results of a pilot study of the usability and possibility of impact force response signal induced from impacting an object for the assessment of compressive strength of various materials (rock, concrete, wood, etc.) nondestructively. For this study, a device was devised for impacting an object and measuring the impact force. The impact was carried out by an initial rotating free falling impact and following repetitive impacts from the rebound action which eventually disappears. Wood and rock test specimens for different strengths were tested and an impact force response signal was measured for each test specimen. The total impact force signal energy which is assessed from integrating the impact force response signal was compared with the directly measured compressive strength for each specimen. The comparison showed that the total impact force signal energy has a direct relationship with the directly measured compressive strength and the results clearly indicated that the compressive strength of construction materials can be assessed nondestructively using total impact force signal energy which is assessed from integrating the impact force response signal induced from impacting an object.
Experimental and discrete element methods were used to investigate the effects of triple joints lengths and triple joint angle on the failure behavior of rock mass under uniaxial compressive test. Concrete samples with dimension of 20 cm × 20 cm × 5 cm were prepared. Within the specimen, three imbedded joint were provided. The joint lengths were 2 cm, 4cm and 6 cm. In constant joint lengths, the angle between middle joint and other joints were 30°, 60°, 90°, 120° and 150°. Totally 15 different models were tested under compression test. The axial load rate on the model was 0.05 mm/min. Concurrent with experimental tests, the models containing triple joints, length and joint angle are similar to the experiments, were numerical by Particle flow code in two dimensions (PFC2D). Loading rate in numerical modelling was 0.05 mm/min. Tensile strength of material was 1 MPa. The results show that the failure behaviors of rock samples containing triple joints were governed by both of the angle and the length of the triple joints. The uniaxial compressive strengths (UCS) of the specimens were related to the fracture pattern and failure mechanism of the discontinuities. Furthermore, it was shown that the compressive behavior of discontinuities is related to the number of the induced tensile cracks which are increased by decreasing the joint length. Along with the damage failure of the samples, the acoustic emission (AE) activities are excited. There were only a few AE hits in the initial stage of loading, then AE hits rapidly grow before the applied stress reached its peak. In addition, every stress drop was accompanied by a large number of AE hits. Finally, the failure pattern and failure strength are similar in both methods i.e., the experimental testing and the numerical simulation methods.
