  • This paper presents a design of artificial neural network power system stabilizer(ANNPSS) using adaptive evolutionary algorithm(AEA). We have proposed an adaptive evolutionary algorithm which uses both a genetic algorithm(GA) and an evolution strategy(ES), useing the merits of two different evolutionary computations. ANNPSS shows better control performances than conventional power system stabilizer(CPSS) in three-phase fault with heavy load which is used when tuning ANNPSS. To show the robustness of the proposed ANNPSS, it is applied to damp the low frequency oscillation caused by disturbances such as three-phase fault with normal and light load. the proposed ANNPSS shows better robustness than CPSS.

  • When the controller designed by the $H{\infty}$ control technique is applied to the object system, sometimes the controller does not satisfy the robust stability and robust performance but only satisfy the nominal performance. In this paper, we derive the region on the frequency response curve of the open-loop transfer function which satisfy the robustness and robust performance of the designed controller. We also derive the region for the suitableness of the weighting function on the frequency response curve of the weighting function. We showed that the robust stability and the robust performance of the $H{\infty}$ optimal control)or by applying the designed controller on an electromechanical actuator system could be improved by determining parameter ${\gamma}$ and weighting function gain ${\alpha}$ using the derived region.

  • The robustness of communication service should be guaranteed to validate its security of the whole service not just high performance. One kind of practical test-beds is the chinese communication service based on SIM Card and GSM. In paper, we try to experiment the possibility of SIM cards clone in various mobile communications using 2G in china, and hence discovered the security vulnerabilities such as the incoming outgoing, SMS service and additional services on the mobile phones using clone SIM cards. The experiments show that chinese communication service should be prepared the Fraud Management System against the cloning SIM card. and furthermore, regulations related to the communication service should be tuned the realistic security environments.

  • This paper presents the method for detection and tracking of multiple humans robustly in mobile platform. The perception of human is performed in real time through the processing of images acquired from a moving stereo vision system. We performed multi-cue integration such as human shape, skin color and depth information to detect and track each human in moving background scene. Human shape is measured by edge-based template matching on distance transformed image. Improving robustness for human detection, we apply the human face skin color in HSV color space. And we could increase the accuracy and the robustness in both detection and tracking by applying random sampling stochastic estimati...

  • The technique of backstepping have can avoid cancellations of useful nonlinearities. It is widely used in nonlinear adaptive control. But it is difficult to use this technique for uncertain nonlinear systems. Sliding mode control has robustness and application with feedback linearization. This paper shows that the robustness can be used for back stopping technique to solve the uncertainty problem and to improve the scalar design problem using Control Lyapunov function which is the motivation of back stepping technique with recursive design for high-order systems. In the respect of SMC, the result of this paper does not need to satisfy the matching condition.

  • The method of endowing the controller with the strengthened robustness within the boundary layer is presented for controlling the uncertain nonlinear systems in which the variations of the uncertainties are slow. From this controller, the width of the boundary layer where the robust control input is smoothened out can be given by an appropriate value but a better control performance within the boundary layer can be achieved without the control chattering because the role of adaptive control is to compensate for the uncovered portions of the robust control occurred from the continuous approximation within the boundary layer.

  • This paper will describe the application for variable structure control theory to the first order dynamic system and verify it's robustness. The study on the first order dynamic system control which has been essential part for the control of servo motor (AC, DC) systems has been excluded in the study of variable structure control system(VSCS) because this first order system was not applicable to the previous variable structure control theory. So, for the robustness control of first order dynamic system with variable structure control theory, we propose modified switching function synthesis which guarantees the advantages of conventional VSCS and removes reaching phase which regards as shortcomings in VSCS. And we demonstrate the practical potential of implementation about this theory by simulation results of AC motor variable speed control.

  • Electric brake booster systems replace conventional pneumatic brake boosters with electric motors and rotary-todisplacement mechanisms including ECU (Electronic Control Unit). Electric booster brake systems require precise target pressure tracking and control robustness because vehicle brake systems operate properly given the large range of loading and temperature, actuator saturation, load-dependent friction. Also for the implement of imbedded control system, the controller should be selected considering the limited memory size and the cycle time problem of real brake ECU. In this study, based on these requirements, a sliding mode controller has been chosen and applied considering both model uncertainty and external disturbance. A mathematical model for the electric booster is derived and simulated. The developed sliding mode controller considering chattering problem has been compared with a conventional cascade PID controller. The effectiveness of the controller is demonstrated in some braking cases.

  • In real-world intelligent transportation systems, accuracy in vehicle license plate detection and recognition is considered quite critical. Many algorithms have been proposed for still images, but their accuracy on actual videos is not satisfactory. This stems from several problematic conditions in videos, such as vehicle motion blur, variety in viewpoints, outliers, and the lack of publicly available video datasets. In this study, we focus on these challenges and propose a license plate detection and recognition scheme for videos based on a temporal matching prior network. Specifically, to improve the robustness of detection and recognition accuracy in the presence of motion blur and outliers, forward and bidirectional matching priors between consecutive frames are properly combined with layer structures specifically designed for plate detection. We also built our own video dataset for the deep training of the proposed network. During network training, we perform data augmentation based on image rotation to increase robustness regarding the various viewpoints in videos.

  • An efficient implicit multigrid method is presented for the Navier-Stokes and k-ω turbulence equations. Freezing and limiting strategies are applied to improve the robustness and convergence of the multigrid method. The eddy viscosity and strongly nonlinear production terms of turbulence are frozen in the coarser grids by passing down the values without update of them. The turbulence equations together with the Navier-Stokes equations, however, are consecutively solved on the coarser grids in a loosely coupled fashion. A simple limit for k is also introduced to circumvent slow-down of convergence. Numerical results for the unseparated and separated transonic airfoil flows show that all computations converge well without any robustness problem and the computing time is reduced to a factor of about 3 by the present multigrid method.
