The performance of the failure detection algorithm may be greatly influenced by the model uncertainty. It is very important to design a robust failure detection system to the model uncertainty. In this paper, a design procedure to generate failure detection algorithm is proposed. The design procedure suggested is based on the concept of the‘threshold selector[1]’. The H$\infty$ control algorithm is used to derive a threshold selector which is robust to the model uncertainty, The threshold selector derived can be used to develop a failure detection system together with the weighted cumulative sum algorithm[3]. Computer simulation study showed that the failure detection system designed for an ISA(Integrated Servo Actuator) system by using the proposed method is robust to the model uncertainty.

In this paper, robust stability analysis for the fuzzy feedback linearization regulator is presented. Well-known Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model is used as the MISO nonlinear plant model. Uncertainty and disturbance are assumed to be included in the model structure with known bounds. For these structured uncertainty and disturbances, robust stability of the close system is analyzed in both input-output sense and Lyapunov sense. The robust stability conditions are proposed by using multivariable circle criterion and the relationship between input-output stability and Lyapunov stability. The proposed stability analysis is illustrated by a simple example.

This paper presents an algorithm to design a robust digital model following servo control system in which optimal linear quadratic regulator problem is used to design the control system that make the step/ramp response of the plant kept close to a specified ideal step/ramp response of the model. The quadratic criterion function for a continuous system is used to design the robust digital servo control system. The feasibility of the design technique is shown by the simulation and the proposed method is applied to the speed control of DC servo motor.

In this paper, the robust controller design is performed for the speed control of the underwater vehicle diesel engine. Nonlinear model equations are acquired through the mathematical modeling using mean torque production model technique. It is very difficult to design the robust controller because those are high nonlinear and not expressed in terms of the matched uncertainty Therefore those are converted into the separable model into the linear nominal system and the nonlinear uncertainty term.

In this paper, we presents a robust control system design for compensating hysteresis of a piezoelectric actuator-based actuation unit. First, the dynamics between the input voltage and the output displacement of the actuation unit are unravelled via a non-parametric system identification method. From the dynamic characteristics of those experimental transfer functions, a parametric model is then derived, whose dynamics match those of the non-parametric ones under various conditions on input voltages. A robust controller is constructed on the basis of this parametric model in order not only to effectively compensate the hysteresis of the actuation unit but also to guarantee the robust stability. Extensive experiments show that the proposed robust control system successfully mitigate the effect of the hysteresis and improve the tracking capability of the actuation unit.
Repetitive control is a proposed control strategy in view of the internal model principle and achieves a high accuracy asymptotic tracking property by implementing a model that generates the periodic signals of period into the closed-loop system. Since the repetitive control system contains a periodic signal generator with positive feedback loop, which reduces the stability margin, in the overall closed-loop system, the stability of the closed-loop system should be considered as an important problem. In case that a real system has plant uncertainties which are not represented through modeling, the robust stability problem of the repetitive control system has not been considered sufficiently. In this paper, we propose the robust stability condition for the system with modeling uncertainty. The proposed robust stability condition will be obtained using the robust performance condition in the H$_{\infty}$ control. Moreover, by use of the proposed robust stability condition, we propose a procedure that designs a repetitive controller and a feedback controller simultaneously which can stabilize the overall closed-loop system robustly and which can also do the closedloop system without repetitive controller..

This survey paper reviews robust control problems in both frequency domain and time domain. Robust control is focused on model uncertainties such as modeling error, system parameter variations, and disturbances. Robust control design problems are discussed according to parameter uncertainty, polytopic uncertainty, and norm-bounded uncertainty. Nowadays, robust control theory is combined with various control theory such as model predictive control, adaptive control, intelligent control, and time delay control.

Disturbance observer, adaptive robust control, and enhanced internal model control are model based disturbance attenuation methods famous for robust motion controller which can satisfy desired performance and robustness of high-speed/high-accuracy positioning systems. In this paper, these are shown to be the same scheme with different parameterizations. To do this, a generalized framework, called as RIC(robust internal-loop compensator) is proposed and the conventional schemes are analyzed in the RIC framework. Through this analysis, it can be shown that there are inherent similarities between the schemes and advantages of the RIC in the viewpoint of controller design. This is verified through simulations and experiments.

We study on the velocity matching algorithm for transfer alignment of inertial navigation system(INS) using a robust H$_2$ filter. We suggest an uncertainty model and a discrete robust H$_2$filter for INS and apply the suggested robust H$_2$ filter to the uncertainty model. The discrete robust H$_2$filter is shown by simulation to have better performance time and accuracy than Kalman filter.
A high-performance robust hybrid speed controller for a permanent-magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drive with an on-line trained neural-network model-following controller (NNMFC) is proposed. The robust hybrid controller is a two-degrees-of-freedom (2DOF) integral plus proportional & rate feedback (I-PD) with neural-network model-following (NNMF) speed controller (2DOF I-PD NNMFC). The robust controller combines the merits of the 2DOF I-PD controller and the NNMF controller to regulate the speed of a PMSM drive. First, a systematic mathematical procedure is derived to calculate the parameters of the synchronous d-q axes PI current controllers and the 2DOF I-PD speed controller according to the required specifications for the PMSM drive system. Then, the resulting closed loop transfer function of the PMSM drive system including the current control loop is used as the reference model. In addition to the 200F I-PD controller, a neural-network model-following controller whose weights are trained on-line is designed to realize high dynamic performance in disturbance rejection and tracking characteristics. According to the model-following error between the outputs of the reference model and the PMSM drive system, the NNMFC generates an adaptive control signal which is added to the 2DOF I-PD speed controller output to attain robust model-following characteristics under different operating conditions regardless of parameter variations and load disturbances. A computer simulation is developed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed 200F I-PD NNMF controller. The results confirm that the proposed 2DOF I-PO NNMF speed controller produces rapid, robust performance and accurate response to the reference model regardless of load disturbances or PMSM parameter variations.
