In this paper, we propose the self-autonomous algorithm for mobile robot system (MRS). The proposed mobile robot system which is learned by learning with the neural network can trace the target at the same distances. The mobile robot can use ultrasonic sensors and calculate the distance between target and mobile robot. By teaming the setup distance, current distance and command velocity, the robot can do intelligent self-autonomous drive. We use the neural network and back-propagation algorithm as a tool of learning. As a result, we confirm the ability of tracing the target with proposed mobile robot.

This paper considers the application of mobile robot to the herding problem. The herding problem involves a ‘pursuer’ trying to herd a moving ‘evader’ to a predefined location. In this paper, two mobile robots act as pursuer and evader in the fenced area, where the pursuer robot uses a fuzzy cooperative decision strategy (FCDS) in the herding algorithm. To herd evader robot to a predefined position, the pursuer robot calculates strategic herding point and then navigates to that point using FCDS. FCDS consists of a two-level hierarchy: low level motion descriptors and a high level coordinator. In order to optimize the FCDS, we use the multithread evolutionary programming algorithm. The proposed algorithm is implemented in the real mobile robot system and its performance is demonstrated using experimental results.

When a robot navigates in the real environment, it frequently meets various environments that can be expressed by simple geometrical shapes such as fiat floor, uneven floor, floor with obstacles, slopes, concave or convex corners, etc. Among them, the convex corner composed of two plain surfaces is the most difficult one for the robot to negotiate. In this paper, we propose a gait planning algorithm to help the robot overcome the convex environment. The trajectory of the body is derived from the maximum distance between the edge boundary of the corner and the bottom of the robot when it travels in the convex environment. Additionally, we find the relation between kinematical structure of the robot and its ability of avoiding collision. The relation is realized by considering the workspace and the best posture of the robot in the convex structure. To provide necessary information for the algorithm, we use an IR sensor attached in the leg of the robot to perceive the convex environment. The validity of the gait planning algorithm is verified through simulations and the performance is demonstrated using a quadruped walking robot, called "MRWALLSPECT III"( Multifunctional Robot for WALL inSPECTion version 3).
In this paper, the wall following navigation algorithm of the mobile robot using a mono vision system is described. The key points of the mobile robot navigation system are effective acquisition of the environmental information and fast recognition of the robot position. Also, from this information, the mobile robot should be appropriately controlled to follow a desired path. For the recognition of the relative position and orientation of the robot to the wall, the features of the corridor structure are extracted using the mono vision system, then the relative position, the offset distance and steering angle of the robot from the wall, is derived for a simple corridor geometry. For the alleviation of the computation burden of the image processing, the Kalman filter is used to reduce search region in the image space for line detection. Next, the robot is controlled by this information to follow the desired path. The wall following control scheme by the PD control scheme is composed of two control parts, the approaching control and the orientation control, and each control is performed by steering and forward-driving motion of the robot. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, the real time navigation experiments are performed. Through the result of the experiments, the effectiveness and flexibility of the suggested algorithm are verified in comparison with a pure encoder-guided mobile robot navigation system.

This paper presents application of a new tactile slippage sensation algorithm in robot hand control system. The optical three-axis tactile sensor is a type of tactile sensor capable of defining normal and shear forces simultaneously. The tactile sensor is mounted on fingertip of robotic hand. Shear force distribution is used to define slippage sensation in the robot hand system. Based on tactile slippage analysis, a new control algorithm was proposed. To improve performance during object handling motions, analysis of slippage direction is conducted. The control algorithm is classified into two phases: grasp-move-release and grasp-twist motions. Detailed explanations of the control algorithm based on the existing robot arm control system are presented. The experiment is conducted using a bottle cap, and the results reveal good performance of the proposed control algorithm to accomplish the proposed object handling motions.
This paper discusses the method of vision based sensor fusion system for biped robot walking. Most researches on biped walking robot have mostly focused on walking algorithm itself. However, developing vision systems for biped walking robot is an important and urgent issue since biped walking robots are ultimately developed not only for researches but to be utilized in real life. In the research, systems for environment recognition and tole-operation have been developed for task assignment and execution of biped robot as well as for human robot interaction (HRI) system. For carrying out certain tasks, an object tracking system using modified optical flow algorithm and obstacle recognition system using enhanced template matching and hierarchical support vector machine algorithm by wireless vision camera are implemented with sensor fusion system using other sensors installed in a biped walking robot. Also systems for robot manipulating and communication with user have been developed for robot.

The purpose of this paper is to accomplish the stable humanoid robot walking on the soft terrains. The goal of the humanoid robot development is to make the robotic system perform some tasks in human living environment. However, human dwelling environments are very different from those of laboratories, where varied experiments are performed by the robot. In many cases, the ground is soft or elastic unlike the floor of a laboratory. When a robot walks on the soft ground, the sole of robot contacts the uneven ground. This results in unstable walking or walking may be impossible according to the degree of softness. Therefore, the algorithm that facilitates stable walking on the soft ground surface is required. In this paper, we suggest an algorithm that controls the ankle to help the robot walk stably on the soft ground using the humanoid robot (ISHURO-II) as a real model. A humanoid robot walking on the soft ground was simulated to verify that the proposed algorithm results in stable walking.

This paper deals with the human-interactive actions of a quadruped robot by using Genetic Algorithm. In case we have to work out the designed plan under the special environments, our robot will be required to have walking capability, and patterns with legs, which are designed like gaits of insect, dog and human. Our quadruped robot (called SERO) is capable of not only the basic actions operated with sensors and actuators but also the various advanced actions including walking trajectories, which are generated by Genetic Algorithm. In this paper, the body and the controller structures are proposed and kinematics analysis are performed. All of the suggested motions of SERO are generated by PC simulation and implemented in real environment successfully.
This paper proposes the methodology in image processing algorithm that estimates the pose of the pipe crawling robot. The pipe crawling robots are usually equipped with a lighting device and a camera on its head for monitoring and inspection purpose. The proposed methodology is using these devices without introducing the extra sensors and is based on the fact that the position and the intensity of the reflected light varies with the robot posture. The algorithm is divided into two parts, estimating the translation and rotation angle of the camera, followed by the actual pose estimation of the robot. To investigate the performance of the algorithm, the algorithm is applied to a sewage maintenance robot.
$\textbullet$ This paper deals with obstacle avoidance of a quadruped robot with a vision system and a PSD sensor. $\textbullet$ The vision system needs for obstacle recognition toward robot. $\textbullet$ Ths PSD sensor is also important element for obstacle recognition. $\textbullet$ We propose algorithm that recognizes obstacles with one vision and PSD sensor. $\textbullet$ We also propose obstacle avoidance algorithm with map from obstacle recognition algorithm. $\textbullet$ Using these algorithm, Quadruped robot can generate gait trajectory. $\textbullet$ Therefore, robot can avoid obstacls, and can move to target point.
