The most important thing in locating disturbances in optimal rapid traffic singnal control is to collect information cocerning toraffit flow by means of a detection method. In order to set up an optimal traffic singnal period, the analysis of a delay time phenomena in the signal period must also be considered. In fact, each of the distributed traffic quantities on the road are not similar factors in view of speeds and distances of succeeding cars. The causing factors are analyzed by the method of control engineering analysis, and they are coincident with disturbance. Thus distubances cause errors. Distubances are fuctions of time, and are classified into three conditions: Natural road state and weather are the first. The second is structures and function of vehicles, and the third is inducedbydrivers. This thesis deals with the last two cases except the first one for maximum utilization of the existing road state and weather conditions. The first condition remains constant, and then there exist some relations between vehicles and drivers. In the long run, it can be shown that the scheme for minimizing whole errors in the optimal traffic signal time setting is definitely presented.

This study conducted observations at 72 traffic lights and road signs in Sejong-si, Korea from March to June 2019 in order to analyze nest-site, nest-site characteristics and feeding behavior in Tree sparrow (Passeer montanus) in urban. Feeding behavior during breeding season in 2019 was investigated at 10 Town representing traffic facilities installed on the road located in the center of the city and 10 Riverside Geumgang river's riverside road. We fitted both general linear model and regression model to our field data and estimated the spatial variation of initial date of the first feeding (i.e., being date of breeding) and the total number of caterpillar fed by parents per hour. Our results showed that the frequency of nest building on artificial structures, such as traffic lights, was about 26% higher and about 8 days earlier in the riverside. In particular, the first feeding was significantly faster when the nearest distance between nest to green field as foraging site was shorter whereas there was no significant effect of the number of nest within 50 meters on the first feeding. Number of caterpillars fed by parents was higher in the Riverside than in the Urban, and especially the number in the second brood was sharply decreased in the Urban. As we estimated average amount of caterpillars per hour to 446 traffic safety facilities in Sejong-si, it was estimated that Tree sparrows fed 18,742.8 caterpillars per hour during the breeding season. In this study, we showed that characteristics of nests built in artificial structures and feeding behavior in order to analyze effects of environmental condition in urban on life-history traits during the breeding season. Finally, we discussed the conservation of birds in urban and pest control effects.

Bridge deck has a role in a comfortable and safe passage of vehicles. At the same time, it preserves upper structure against the abrasion and shearing due to impact of traffic loads in bridges or has a role to protect the plate from off adverse effect of climatic process as rain, chemicals. Currently, the total number of inspected bridges is 6,248 in the general national road and to maintain effectively, Introduction of GPR system mounted in the vehicle has been considered. In this research, the comparison and analysis of bridge deck condition on general national road has been performed with major variations of superstructure type, span lengths, located region and ages by using 'the current status of road bridge and tunnel' that is provided by MLTM(Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs). As a result, Condition assessment grade, superstructure type, age and length were derived as a major factor to determine priority for the condition assessment.
Congestion on expressways is increasing in spite of continuous road construction. In enlargement of expressway capacity to lessen congestion, a long period is needed and in the case of traffic congestion, it would be impossible to avoid long periods of traffic congestion. So, it is necessary to cope with traffic congestion through continuous traffic condition monitoring, analysis of the causes of congestion and the development of alternatives before traffic conditions worsen. A congestion index that can express traffic operating conditions measurably is needed to monitor those conditions. Thus, in this research, a new congestion index, the Traffic Condition Index (TCI), is developed. TCI is able to evaluate roads that have different grades (or design speeds) and to judge traffic condition as good, fair and poor (congested). In addition, TCI has merits in that it can strengthen the function of existing Freeway Traffic Management Systems (FTMS) and can be applied to congestion management easily: TCI calculates congestion intensity and severity using data obtained from existing FTMS. In order to validate TCI, it was applied to the Kyungbu Expressway and the Seohaean Expressway. As a result, TCI shows a good performance in the aspect of applicability and ability of presentation of traffic conditions compared with travel speed and Travel Time Index (TTI).

The cost needed for the construction and management of highways in the whole nation is rapidly growing so the research that can decrease the cost is required. However, most of the highway specs have simply converted from those of other countries, including USA. Therefore, some of our design and construction specs were not the optimum ones based on our own situation, requiring a research under the actual traffic and environment of our nation. The use of test road develops many aspects of highway engineering. Those are evaluation of construction materials, a general overview of korea pavement design and serviceability under the actual traffic and environmental condition of the nation. It is also economical and efficient compared to the trial construction of each item in spreaded form. A test road, 7.7km long with two lanes, is being constructed on the Inner Central Expressway. In this test road, 2.7km is planned for asphalt pavement and 3.4km is planned for concrete pavement. Three test bridges and five earth retaining structures will be included in the test road. Based on the master plan, the major performance was progressing such as detailed research modules of each area, preliminary research for the future research, sensor surveys for the behavior analyses of pavements and structures with installation methods and data acquisition systems, the foundation research of Integrated Instrumentation System and the Management Plan for automated measurement. Some area(structure research division, geotechnical research division) was designed the instrumentation plan because some instrument sensors must be installed during the construction of the test road. And then the instrumentation plan of each area was enforcing because a large majority of the instrument sensors must be installed after the construction of the test road. The field surveys with material property tests and pilot instrumentation test with sensor tests was also performing in accordance with the construction in the field.

PURPOSES : The purpose of this study is to validate the design criteria of the concrete modular road system, which is a new semi-bridge-type concept road, through a comparison of numerical analysis results and actual loading test results under static axial loads. METHODS : To design the semi-bridge-type modular road, both the bridge design code and the concrete structural design code were adopted. The standard truck load (KL-510) was applied as the major traffic vehicle for the design loading condition. The dimension of the modular slab was designed in consideration of self-weight, axial load, environmental load, and combined loads, with ultimate limit state coefficients. The ANSYS APDL (2010) program was used for case studies of center and edge loading, and the analysis results were compared with the actual mock-up test results. RESULTS : A full-scale mock-up test was successfully conducted. The maximum longitudinal steel strains were measured as about 35 and 83.5 micro-strain (within elastic range) at center and edge loading locations, respectively, under a 100 kN dual-wheel loading condition by accelerating pavement tester. CONCLUSIONS : Based on the results of the comparison between the numerical analysis and the full-scale test, the maximum converted stress range at the edge location is 32~51% of the required standard flexural strength under the two times over-weight loading condition. In the case of edge loading, the maximum converted stresses from the Westergaard equation, the ANSYS APDL analysis, and the mock-up test are 1.95, 1.7, and 2.3 times of that of the center loading case, respectively. The primary reason for this difference is related to the assumption of the boundary conditions of the vertical connection between the slab module and the crossbeam module. Even though more research is required to fully define the boundary conditions, the proposed design criteria for the concrete modular road finally seems to be reasonable.
Everyday congestion length (distance) and duration (time) data are collected and recorded in Expressway Traffic Information Center. These records are based on the information that the operators watch CCTV and decide traffic condition in order to present information about congestion on VMS. Using VMS message has some merits like that it doesn't need a great lot of cost to construct hardware such like FTMS because operators can check traffic condition by watching CCTV only. Of cause in the aspect of accuracy, using VMS message has the limitation that it is based on subject decision compared with FTMS. However, it can be said that the value of using VMS message is very large. The object of this study is to use the VMS information record (log file) usefully to provide information of traffic condition on expressway for users (drivers) without keeping the VMS information record in dead storage. To do so, in this research, congestion calculation method able to understand traffic congestion condition on expressway was developed.

The capacity of highway is restricted and traffic congestion is caused by increasing traffic demand. Also, greenhouse gases are increased by traffic congestion. CDM (Clean Development Mechanism) is an idea of interest to reduce greenhouse gases. However, CDM's cases applied in traffic field are rare. Thus, it is necessary that methodology to reduce greenhouse gas should be developed and applied to CDM. A methodology for identifying greenhouse gas emissions was developed in this paper. This methodology was developed on the basis of baseline methodology registered at UN. Travel time and speed in the conventional traffic condition and in the automated traffic condition are compared by BPR function. The calculated speed applied to emission factor equation and then $CO_2$ emissions was calculated. A simulation was executed to evaluate the validity of the developed methodology. In the result, advanced vehicle's $CO_2$ emissions are more than conventional vehicle's $CO_2$ emissions in the stable flow condition. However, advanced vehicle's $CO_2$ emissions are less than conventional vehicle's $CO_2$ emissions in the unstable flow condition. It is assure that capacity of highway is enhanced and efficiency of highway is improved by adopting advanced safety vehicle in the smart road.

PURPOSES : The causes of traffic accidents can be classified into the factors of highway users, vehicles, and driving environments. Traffic accidents result from the deficiency in single or combination of these three factors. The objective of this study is to define the "potentially hazardous sections of highway" in terms of traffic safety considering these three factors. METHODS : The test drivers performed repeated driving on these highway sections. The drivers and passengers recorded the sections on which the driving was uncomfortable, and the speeds on the sections excluding the uncomfortable sections were used for the development of the model. RESULTS : The model is composed of three sub-models for each of the horizontal curve, tangent, and the section where the curve starts/ends. The safe driving behavior coefficients by the horizontal curvature were derived by comparing the maximum operating speeds at which the vehicle may slide or deviate and the speeds at which the drivers feel comfort. The safety speeds on tangent were derived by the length of tangent section considering the driver's desired speeds under the traffic condition on which the drivers hardly influenced by the other vehicles. For the sections where the curve starts/ends, the driving behaviors were classified by the distances between the curves, and the safe acceleration/deceleration speeds were derived on which the drivers enter/exit the curve sections safely. CONCLUSIONS : Safety speed could then be regarded that the model suggested in this study may be useful to define the potentially hazardous highway section and contribute the improvement of highway safety.

To give a guarantee a consistently high level of quality and reliability of Telematics traffic service, traffic flow forecasting is very important issue. In this paper, we proposed an adaptable integrated prediction model to predict the traffic flow in the future. Our model combines two methods, short-term prediction model and long-term prediction model with different combining coefficients to reflect current traffic condition. Short-term model uses the Kalman filtering technique to predict the future traffic conditions. And long-term model processes accumulated speed patterns which means the analysis results for all past speeds of each road by classifying the same day and the same time interval. Combining two models makes it possible to predict future traffic flow with higher accuracy over a longer time range. Many experiments showed our algorithm gives a better precise prediction than only an accumulated speed pattern that is used commonly. The result can be applied to the car navigation to support a dynamic shortest path. In addition, it can give users the travel information to avoid the traffic congestion areas.
