A sensor system has been developed that uses an ultrasonic sensor to detect the downhill slope on the side of a forest road and prevents a vehicle-type forest machine from rolling down a mountainside. A specular reflection of ultrasonic wave might cause severe issues in measuring distances to targets. By investigating the installation angle of the sensor to minimize the negative effects of specular reflection, the installation angle of lateral monitoring ultrasonic sensor could be determined based on the width of road shoulder. Obstacles such as small rocks or piece of log in a forest road may cause the forest machine to be overturned while the machine riding over due to excessive its posture change. It was determined that the laser sensor could be a part of a sensor system capable of specifying the location and size of small obstacles. Not only this sensor system including ultrasonic and laser sensors can issue a warning of dangerous sections to drivers in forest forwarders currently in use, but also it can be used as a driving safety sensor in autonomous forest machine or remote-control forest machine in the future.

This study is an analysis of slope failure examples of cut sedimentary hills during construction road in Kyoungsang Basin, especially Yangsan Fault system (Ilkwang-Dongrae fault). This area involved a lot of hillslope failures compared to other areas during road construction. The exposed failure slopes were first face-mapped, and then back analyzed based on the limit equilibrium method to assess the shear strength parameters of discontinuity (bedding). The results of this analysis indicate that the shear strength parameters of discontinuity (bedding) are significantly smaller than those used in the design stage and presented in the existing works. The filling in the bedding and emerging groundwater may be decreasing strength parameters. Especially, the clay in the bedding plays a key role in the effect of the shear strength. The study also suggests that the bedding angle and the internal friction angle are proportional to each other. Using this relationship and knowing the bedding angle, the friction can easily be estimated.
Soil-rock mixture (S-RM) is an inhomogeneous geomaterial that is widely encountered in nature. The mechanical and physical properties of S-RM are important factors contributing towards different deformation characteristics and unstable modes of the talus slope. In this paper, the equivalent substitution method was employed for the preparation of S-RM test samples, and large-scale triaxial laboratory tests were conducted to investigate their mechanical parameters by varying the water content and confining pressure. Additionally, a simplified geological model based on the finite element method was established to compare the stability of talus slopes with different strength parameters and in different excavation and support processes. The results showed that the S-RM samples exhibit slight strain softening and strain hardening under low and high water content, respectively. The water content of S-RM also had an effect on decreasing strength parameters, with the decrease in magnitude of the cohesive force and internal friction angle being mainly influenced by the low and high water content, respectively. The stability of talus slope decreased with a decrease in the cohesion force and internal friction angle, thereby creating a new shallow slip surface. Since the excavation of toe of the slope for road construction can easily cause a landslide, anti-slide piles can be used to effectively improve the slope stability, especially for shallow excavations. But the efficacy of anti-slide piles gradually decreases with increasing water content. This paper can act as a reference for the selection of strength parameters of S-RM and provide an analysis of the instability of the talus slope.

This paper describes a road-following controller using the proposed neural network for autonomous vehicle. Road-following with visual sensor like camera requires intelligent control algorithm because analysis of relation from road image to steering control is complex. The proposed neural network, relative similarity modular network(RSMN), is composed of some learning networks and a partitioniing network. The partitioning network divides input space into multiple sections by similarity of input data. Because divided section has simlar input patterns, RSMN can learn nonlinear relation such as road-following with visual control easily. Visual control uses two criteria on road image from camera; one is position of vanishing point of road, the other is slope of vanishing line of road. The controller using neural network has input of two criteria and output of steering angle. To confirm performance of the proposed neural network controller, a software is developed to simulate vehicle dynamics, camera image generation, visual control, and road-following. Also, prototype autonomous electric vehicle is developed, and usefulness of the controller is verified by physical driving test.

The pattern of domestic slope construction has been steadily changed from the simpled and small-scale to the large-scale and complicated one, frequently near the existing structures, as the density of population and the traffic increases. In some cases, the slopes become steeper and larger due to the road improvement and construction. For the rock slope, the existence of discontinuity cannot be disregarded and acts as an important factor on the slope stability. Most of the existing methods for stabilizing the slope were focused on reducing the slope angle. Under the specific geographic condition, it is necessary to concentrate more efforts on the research and development of supporting system for the slope stability. As a supporting system, it is often very advantageous to use the FRP pipe grouting method that is similar to the existing soil nailing method or the rock bolting method but uses the high strength FRP pipe as a principal reinforcement in place of steel bar. Through the FRP pipe, the grout material can be injected into the rock mass to improve its shear strength to the required value. .In this study, the characteristics of FRP are investigated by the laboratory tests and the field tests. And, the practical aspects of FRP method are reviewed and analyzed.
Recently, the number of road construction is increasing by industrial development. According to this industrial tendency, the number of traffic accidents are consistently increasing due to increasing number of vehicle on the road. This is mainly because traffic accidents are occurred by various parameter such as negligence of driver, vehicle defects, state of unstable road, natural environment etc. Lane department of vehicles from guardrail is occurring frequently. This type of accident is caused by vehicle performance improvement and shape of vehicle, weak guardrail installation and maintenance. Guardrail has the purpose on prevention such as prevention of traffic accident and prevention of deviating out of road, minimizing damage of driver and vehicle by collision as well as entry into the road through guardrail. Stability evaluation test of guardrail verifies the behavior of guardrail through the crash of truck. At this time, the crash condition has 100 km/h of velocity and $15^{\circ}$ of impact angle. In the case of ground condition, filling slope condition has relatively high bearing capacity of infinite ground towards the test. Guardrail is generally installed on road of shoulder in fill slope in korea. It is possible for stability problem to deteriorate ground bearing capacity in Guardrail in fill slope. The existed study towards stability of guardrail has been carried out in the infinite ground. However, the study on the behavior of fill slope with guardrail is not performed by vehicle collision. Therefore, In this study, the numerical analysis using LS-DYNA was executed for verification on behavior of fill slope with guardrail through vehicle collision. This numerical analysis was carried out with change of embedded depth on installed guardrail post in shoulder of fill slope by vehicle collision and 8 tonf truck crash providing at NCAN (National Crash Analysis Center). As the result, displacement and stress on fill slope are decreased in accordance with the increase of embedded depth of guardrail post. Ground bearing capacity is deteriorated at depth of 450 mm form shoulder of road on fill slope.
The purpose of this investigation is to point out the physical fixation and stability of banking slopes of forest roads by invasion of trees. We investigated the situations of sediment discharge and coverage of invaded trees at banking slopes of forest roads. The coverage of invaded trees were calculated from crown injection based on the stable slope and was compared with length of slope, slope gradient, and passage years after construction of forest road. 1. We investigated on the sediment discharge and the invasion of trees at banking slopes, which were actually observed 8 forest roads of Kyonggi-Do and Kangwon-Do. 2. There was no physical stability of the banking slope due to the surface erosion and slope failure, but the tree invasions were active at the stable plots. 3. The length of slope was constructed to 4.0m to 61.0m and recent forest road was mainly constructed to the slopes longer than 30m. There was strong regional effect between the length of slope and the coverage of invaded trees and the above two factors were inversely proportional to each other. 4. There was no significant relationship between the slope gradient and the coverage of invaded trees and the slope constructed within the angle of repose showed the relatively high coverage of invaded trees. 5. There was no significant relationship between the passage years and the coverage of invaded trees in the same investigative region after the construction of forest road. But there was a gradually increasing relationship of tree invasion between above two factors. However, there was some limitation to expect the invasion of the tree species. 6. In the light of the above results, we suggest that the construction of forest road may need foundation work and vegetation work simultaneously for the physical stability to make the environment of tree plantation and that the reasonable increase of construction cost of forest road may be prior to the other factors.
Transporting agricultural products and the other material by the two-wheel-tractor (power-tiler)and trailer system may be one of its most widely used farming functions.The safety and hitching load for all the previaling performing conditions may be the general concern over the operation of the tiller-trailer system. In this study, a mathematical model to determine the static and dynamic forces excerting on the hitch point were developed . Based on the analysis of the model and the field measurements. the limiting hitching load and critical slope were analyzed. The results of the study are summarized as follows ; 1) The limit angle of slope land for the safety steering that two-wheel tractor-single axle trailer system was able to transport agricultural products was the direct angle (${\gamma}$) = 8 ; the cross angle$\beta$) 15 ; and it was decreased in accordance with the increase of carrying load ($W_4). 2) The critical velocity for safe operation in case of running on downward hill road was about 1.08m/sec. 3) The limiting carrying load for the safe steering was W$_4$=600kg. The degree of the safe steering for different braking methods was given in order as follows ; Simulataneous braking the tractor and trailer , braking the trailer only, and braking tractor only. 4) Among the three components of impact loads excerting on the hitch point, the component in the lateral direction ($P_{Vy}$) was near zero in spite of increase of hitching load ($W_4) , while the components in the other two mutually perpedicular directions ($P_{Vx}$ and ($P_{Vz}$) ) had larger values in horizontal plane than those in the slope lands. 5) Moment of forces on the lateral direction (M$y$) had the largest value among the three components of impact moment acting on the hitch point, however all the components were sharply increased in accordance with the increase of hitching loads ($W_4. Three components of the moment were the negative values.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the key factors in designing a three-wheeled two-row soybean reaper (riding type) that is suitable for soybean production, and ensure worker safety by proposing optimal work conditions for the prototype of the designed machine in relation to the slope of the road. Methods: A three-wheeled two-row soybean reaper (riding type) was designed and its prototype was fabricated based on the local soybean-production approach. This approach was considered to be closely related to the prototype-designing of the cutter and the wheel driving system of the reaper. Load distribution on the wheels of the prototype, its minimum turning radius, static lateral overturning angle, tilt angle during driving, and The working and rear overturning (back flip) angle were measured. Based on the gathered information, investigations were conducted regarding optimal work conditions for the prototype. The investigations took into account driving stability and worker safety. Results: The minimum ground clearance of the prototype was 0.5 m. The blade height of the prototype was adjusted such that the cutter was operated in line with the height of the ridges. The load distribution on the prototype's wheels was found to be 1 (front wheel: F): 1.35 (rear-left wheel: RL): 1.43 (rear-right wheel: RR). With the ratio of load distribution between the RL and RR wheels being 1: 1.05, the left-to-right lateral loads were found to be well-balanced. The minimum turning radius of the prototype was 2.0 m. Such a small turning radius was considered to be beneficial for cutting work on small-scale fields. The sliding of the prototype started at $25^{\circ}$, and its lateral overturning started at $39.3^{\circ}$. Further, the critical slope angle for the worker to drive the prototype in the direction of the contour line on an incline was found to be $12.8^{\circ}$, and the safe angle of slope for the cutting was measured to be less than $6^{\circ}$. The critical angle of slope that allowed for work was found to be $10^{\circ}$, at which point the prototype would overturn backward when given impact forces of 1,060 N on its front wheel. Conclusions: It was determined that farmers using the prototype would be able to work safely in most soybean production areas, provided that they complied with safe working conditions during driving and cutting.
This study was carried out to analyze the mechanical properties of soil and the slope stability on the fill slope of forest road constructed in the regions which consist of igneous and metamorphic rock area. The results were summarized as follows. 1) Soil type by Unified Soil Classification System(USCS) was classified as SW in soil slope, GP in weathered rock slope, GP in soft rock slope for both types of parent rock, but gravelly soil slopes in igneous and metamorphic rock area were classified as SP and GW, respectively. 2) Dry unit weight was $1.34g/cm^2{\sim}1.59g/cm^2$, specific gravity 0.57~0.61, and void ratio 0.66~0.93 in the case of igneous rock area, a dry unit weight was $1.35g/cm^2{\sim}1.51g/cm^2$, specific gravity 2.67~2.77, and void ratio 0.78~1.01 in the case of metamorphic rock area. 3) The strength parameters such as internal friction angle(${\phi}$) and cohesion(c) were selected and tested for slope stability analysis. ${\phi}$ and c of soil in igneous rock area were within the range of $29.51^{\circ}{\sim}41.82^{\circ}$ and $0.03kg/cm^2{\sim}0.38kg/cm^2$, respectively, and $21.43^{\circ}{\sim}41.43^{\circ}$ and $0.05kg/cm^2{\sim}0.44kg/cm^2$ in metamorphic rock area, respectively. 4) Result of the slope stability analysis of forest road showed that, in the weathered rock slope of igneous rock and the weathered rock and soil slope of metamorphic rock area, the possibility of slope failure was high as safety factor was below 1.0.
