In this study, we developed a program to estimate discharge efficiently considering major hydraulic characteristic including water level, river bed, water slope and roughness coefficient in a natural river. Stream discharge was measured at Gongju gauge station located in the down stream of the Daechung Dam during normal and dry seasons from 2003 to 2004. The developed model was compared with the results from the existing rating curve at T/M gage stations, and was used for runoff analyses. Evaluating the developed river discharge estimation program, it was applied during 1983-2004 that base flow separation method and RRFS (Rainfall Runoff Forecasting System) which is based on SSARR (Streamflow Synthesis And Resevoir Regulation). The result presents the stage-discharge curve creator range at the Gong-ju is overestimated by approximately $10-20\%$, especially at the low stage. It is attributed to the hydraulic characteristics at the study. The discharge simulated by the RRFS and base flow separation, which is calibrated using the measurement at the early spring and late fall season during relatively d]v season, shows the least errors. The coefficient of roughness at Gongju station varied with the high and low water level.

Although long-term runoff analysis is important as much as flood analysis in the design of water works, the technological level of the former is relatively lower than that of the latter. In this respect, the precise estimation model for the volume of successive runoff should he developed as soon as possible. Up to now, in Korea, Gajiyama's formula has been widely used in long-term runoff analysis, which has many problems in applying in real situation. On the other hand, in flood analysis, unit hydrograph method has been exclusively used. Therefore, this study aims at trying to apply unit hydrograph method in long-term runoff analysis for the betterment of its estimation. Four test catchment areas were selected ; Maesan area in Namlum river as a representative area of Han river system, Cheongju area in Musim river as one of Geum river system, Hwasun area in Hwasun river as one of Yongsan river system, and Supyung area in Geum river as one of Nakdong river system. In the analysis of unit hydrograph, seperation of effective rainfall was carried out firstly. Considering that effective rainfall and moisture condition of catchrnent area are inside and outside of a phenomenon respectively and the latter is not considered in the analysis, Initial base flow(qb)was selected as an index of moisture condition. At the same time, basic equation(Eq.7) was established, in which qb can take a role as a parameter in relating between cumulative rainfall(P) and cumulative loss of rainfall(Ld). Based on the above equation, computer program for estimation model of qbwas seperately developed according to the range of qb, Developed model was applied to measured hydrographs and hyetographs for total 10 years in 4 test areas and effective rainfall was estimated. Estimation precision of model was checked as shown in Tab- 6 and Fig.8. In the next stage, based on the estimated effective rainfall(R) and runoff(Qd), a runoff distribution ratio was calculated for each teat area using by computerised least square method and used in making unit hydrographs in each test area. Significance of induced hydrographs was tested by checking the relative errors between estimated and measured runoff volume(Tab-9, 10). According to the results, runoff estimation error by unit hydrograph itself was merely 2 or 3 %, but other 2 or 3 % of error proved to be transferred error in the seperation of effective rainfall. In this study, special attentioning point is that, in spite of different river systems and forest conditions of test areas, standardized unit hydrographs for them have very similar curve shape, which can be explained by having similar catchinent characteristics such as stream length, catchinent area, slope, and vegetation intensity. That fact should be treated as important factor ingeneralization of unit hydrograph method.
Groundwater recharge from precipitation is affected by the infiltration from ground surface and the movement of soil water. Groundwater recharge is directly related to the groundwater amount and flow in aquifers, and baseflow to rivers. Determining groundwater recharge rate for a given watershed is a prerequisite to estimate sustainable groundwater resources. The estimation of groundwater recharge rate were carried out for three subwatersheds in the Wicheon watershed and two subwatersheds in the Pyungchang River basin and for the period 1990-2000, using the NRCS-CN method and the baseflow separation method. The recharge rate estimates were compared to each other. The result of estimation by the NRCS-CN method shows the average annual recharge rate 15.4-17.0% in the Wicheon watershed and 26.4-26.8% in the Pyungchang River basin. The average annual recharge rates calculated by the baseflow separation method ranged 15.1-21.1% in the W icheon watershed, and 25.2-33.4% in the Pyungchang River basin. The average annual recharge rates calculated by the NRCS-CN method is less variable than the baseflow separation method. However, the average annual recharge rates obtained from the two methods are not very different, except NO. 6 subwatershed in Pyungchang River basin.
Manning's roughness coefficient for the Han River (from Paldang dam to Indo Bridge) is estimated by one-dimensional unsteady flow model, NETWORK. The entire river is divided into two regions, one region of Paldang dam to Kwangjang, and another region of Jamsu Bridge to Indo Bridge, and changes of the roughness coefficient according to changes in discharge are estimated using data of the past flood events. Estimated roughness coefficients are compared with previous results. Finally, the stage variation according to the variation of channel roughness is presented.
The method for estimating the minimum instream flows required for the riverline aesthetics, proposed by the Kim et al.(1996), has been applied to the main channel reach of the Keum river basin in Korea. To determine the minimum instream flows for eight main reaches at Keum river basin, six representative stations have been selected. This paper provides an analysis of influence on the riverline aesthetics, which is affected by change of physical components of river, by using the survey-based quantification method. The developed questionnaire based on the literature, and submitted to the 326 people who visited an each representative station. This surveying had been implemented in three times at each representative station and we had been selected a different flowrate at each implementation. The results of this analysis and survey have produced the relationship between the variation of physical components and riverline aesthetics. Survey results bout the flow comparison are summarized as follows. At the view of riverline aesthetics, most of the respondents re sensitive at the change of the flow velocity and they prefer high water level to low water level. Moreover whole respondents prefer to abundant stream flows and moderate flow velocity. The minimum flows for riverline aesthetics is estimated at each representative station by using the survey-based quantification method and the estimated results of some representative station are greater than mean monthly flow at each station. The result of the analysis appears that establishing minimum instream flows for riverline aesthetics is not only a technical problem but a legal problem. Therefore in the case of establishing the instream flows in the river, the estimated results have to be considered as relative standard.

In this study, a comparative review was conducted on how to use RGB images to obtain river topographic information, which is one of the most essential data for eco-friendly river management and flood level analysis. In terms of the topographic information of river zone, to obtain the topographic information of flow section is one of the difficult topic, therefore, this study focused on estimating the river topographic information of flow section through RGB images. For this study, the river topography surveying was directly conducted using ADCP and RTK-GPS, and at the same time, and orthomosiac image were created using high-resolution images obtained by drone photography. And then, the existing developed regression equations were applied to the result of channel topography surveying by ADCP and the band values of the RGB images, and the channel bathymetry in the study area was estimated using the regression equation that showed the best predictability. In addition, CCHE2D flow modeling was simulated to perform comparative verification of the topographical informations. The modeling result with the image-based topographical information provided better water depth and current velocity simulation results, when it compared to the directly measured topographical information for which measurement of the sub-section was not performed. It is concluded that river topographic information could be obtained from RGB images, and if additional research was conducted, it could be used as a method of obtaining efficient river topographic information for river management.

In this study, PHABSIM which is a sample for 1D physical habitat and River2D, which is a sample for 2D physical habitat were applied to the main streams of Han River in order to calculate an optimum flow considering the habitats of fishes in determining the instream flow. Moreover, the Weighted Usable Area (WUA) of the two samples in each growth step (adults and spawning) of the target fish type was compared and reviewed. The optimal flow value was calculated by considering the conditions for inhabiting fishes. As a result of the correlation analysis for WUA from 1D and 2D samples was 0.87 to 0.99. The optimum flow considering the conditions of inhabiting fishes showed insignificant difference of $3m^3/s\;to\;5m^3/s$ with the exception of adults in Moon-Mak and spawning in Dal-Chun.
In this study, the watershed and water body models were linked for the simulation of the Nakding river flow. This is a pre-step study for the estimation of the effect of the flow and water quality on the climate change. For models of watershed and river flow, the SWAT and EFDC were used, respectively. The runoff discharge at each boundary points for the simulation of the river flow was provided from the drainage basin model. The calculated runoff discharge by the SWAT model was compared with the measured data of the Ministry of Environment at 13 locations along the Nakdong river and 30 locations along the tributary streams. The computed water discharge was shown to be similar with the measured data. For the model calibration and verification, % difference, NSE, and $R^2$ were computed. The computed % difference was within 15% except of a few points. The NSE and $R^2$ were also within a fair level. The Nakdong river flow of 2007 was simulated by using the EFDC model. The comparison with the measured data showed that the model reflected the actual values of low and high flow well. Also, it was confirmed that the acceleration and deceleration in the curved areas were appropriately simulated. The movement of dye injected at the upstream boundary was simulated. The result showed that the arrival time up to the estuary dam was computed to be about 65 days.
In this study, the variation of water quality was analyzed for six sites in major tributaries of the Nakdong River Basin. Standard-FDC (Flow Duration Curve) was developed using PM (Percentile Method), one of the statistical FDC estimation methods. The LDC (Load Duration Curve) was obtained using the developed FDC. The current method and the LDC evaluation method were compared and analyzed to evaluate the achievement of TWQ (Target Water Quality). Regarding the monthly flow rate variation, the five sites showed the distribution of the lowest flow rate between May and June, indicating a high probability of dry weathering of the streams. The variation of water quality confirmed the vulnerable timing of flow rate in each site, and it is therefore deemed necessary to plan to reduce T-P and TOC. A comparison and evaluation of TWQ showed that there was a difference between the TWQ values achieved by the two techniques. In addition, the margin ratio to the 50% excess ratio can be found in the LDC evaluation. The results of the LDC evaluation by section and by month showed whether or not the water quality was exceeded by flow conditions, along with the vulnerable sections and timing. Accordingly, it is judged that this method can be used for water quality management in TMDLs (Total Maximum Daily Loads).

In this study, WUA (Weighted Usable Area) based on the Instream Flow Incremental Methodology (IFIM) was calculated to determine ecological flow at JeonJu-Cheon by using River2D model. To calibrate River2D, simulation results for low flow conditions of River2D were compared with calibrated HEC-RAS simulation results and the optimum parameters were determined. The results were RMSE (0.18), NSE (0.71) and coefficient of determination (0.78) for velocity and RMSE (0.02), NSE (0.71), coefficient of determination (0.73) for water depth. The result shows that the model successfully simulates the water flows. A selected target fish species to build the habitat suitability index were composed of Zaccoplatypus and Coreoleuciscus splendidus. These species showed the highest occurrences over the past decade in f ish monitoring. Also, The WUA-Discharge curve was calculated with the suitability index in a medium flow conditions. From the result, WUA is changed according to flowrate. In the flowrate-WUA/A graph, ecological flow can be determined at $1.8{\sim}2.0m^3/s$ for Zaccoplatypus $2.0m^3/s$ and Coreoleuciscus splendidus $1.8m^3/s$ at JeonJu-Cheon upstream. When compared with flow-duration analysis, it is demonstrative that simulation results fitted ecological flow considering quantity of available habitat for each fish species.
