The flavonoids are one of the most numberous and widespread groups of natural consituents. The low molecular weight of benzo-${\gamma}$-pyrone derivative are ubiquitous in plants and are vegetables nuts, seeds, leaves, flowers, and bark. The flavonoids constitute of a large class of compounds ubiquitous in plants containing a number of phenolic hydroxyl groups attached to ring structures conferring the antioxidant activity. Epidemiologic studies suggest that the dietary intake of antioxidants constitutes a risk factor for vasclar disease indicating that oxidation may be important in the pathogenesis of human athero-sclerosis. Elevated plasma low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol concentration are associated with accelerated atherosclerosis, LDL is oxidized by smooth muscle cells resulting in several chemicals and physical changes of LDL. Oxidized LDL is responsible for cholesterol loading of macrophages foam cells formation and atherogenesis. There have been insulficient tests of the protective effects of flavonoids against LDL oxidation to make definitive statements about their structure activity relationships. How-ever hydroxylation of the flavone uncleas can appears to be advantageous because polyhydroxylated aglycone flavonoids are potent inhibitor of LDL modification. This identification may lead to new and more effective antioxidant strategies for abrogating the atherosclerotic process the leading cause of death and disability in industrialized societies.

New chiral Co-salen complexes with one $C_3-^tBu$ group in the structure have been synthesized and applied as a chiral catalyst. A dimeric chiral salen having aluminum group metal salts such as $AlCl_3$ displayed very high catalytic reactivity and enantioselectivity for the asymmetric ring opening of epoxides to synthesize optically pure ${\alpha}$-aryloxy alcohols via phenolic kinetic resolution. The salen complexes immobilized on the inorganic support were also used as effective catalysts in that reaction. The identity of metal salts in the new chiral salen complex has proved to be important in the enantioselective reactions.

In a previous report, the properties of vegetable oils as diesel fuel substitutes were investigated and the basic load performance of a diesel engine was examined using vegetable oil. The results show that despite of the long term chain hydrocarbon structure and large droplet size due to high viscosity, vegetable oils have good basic performance and exhaust emissions, however they cause serious problems as carbon deposit buildup, they have poor durability, and also poor thermal efficiency. In this paper, the startability and engine durability with long term operation was tested by physical methods for reducing viscosity when vegetable oil was used as compared against diesel fuel. The results obtained in this investigation may be stated as follows; (1) There is no problem in startability when vegetable oil was used as diesel fuel substitutes as far as fuel temperature is higher than 30.deg. C (2) The carbon deposits were most extensive at lower loads and lower engine speeds, and deposit buildup more heavily on the cooler parts of the combustion chamber wall. (3) Blends with 25% diesel fuel and 20v-% ethanol are effective in reducing the carbon deposit buildups. (4) Significant improvement in carbon deposit and piston ring stick can be obtained by heating fuel(200.deg.).
A study was carried out to observe the 1% aqueous safranine solution flow speed in longitudinal and radial directions of softwood G. biloba, ring-porous wood A. altissima, and diffuse- porouswood D. kaki. In radial direction, ray cells and in longitudinal direction tracheids, vessel and wood fiber were considered for the measurement of liquid penetration speed at less than 12% moisture contents (MC). The length, lumen diameter, pit diameter, end wall pit diameter and the numbers of end wall pits determined for the flow rate. The liquid flow in the those cells was captured via video and the capillary flow rate in the ones were measured. Vessel in hardwood species and tracheids in softwood was found to facilitate prime role in longitudinal penetration. Radial flow speed was found highest in ray parenchyma of G. biloba. Anatomical features like the length and diameter, end-wall pit numbers of ray parenchyma were found also responsible fluid flow differences. On the other hand, vessel and fiber structure affected the longitudinal flow of liquids. Therefore, the average liquid penetration depth in longitudinal tracheids of G. biloba was found the highest among all cells considered in D. kaki and A. altissima.

KTX train system is composed of TORNAD* network for transmitting information of train's internal equipments and OBCS which proceed information within train. OBCS of one trainset consisted of 28 equipments takes intelligent and dynamic composition according to equipment handling, train command and control flow. Each OBCS which is installed within trainset handle and supervise mutually action information about equipments, transmit it to driver to transmit information about train operation and preventive management. This mutual supervision and information transmission use KTX TORNAD* network system. TORNAD* network system is the one which is uniquely developped by GEC ALSTHOM, the KTX trainset manafacturing provider and this field is excluded from technical know-how transfer item. Through the research on analysis method of KTX TORNAD* system data structure which is operating on Seoul-Pusan Line, I hope that this thesis can contribute to train network system's standardization after applying it to improvement of train network system maintenance, enhancing quality of train service and applying it to future Korean rolling stock network system development.
The nucleophilic substitution reactions of 1,2-phenylene phosphorochloridate (1c) with X-pyridines are investigated kinetically in acetonitrile at $-25.0^{\circ}C$. The free energy correlations for substituent X variations in the nucleophiles exhibit biphasic concave upwards with a break point at X = 3-Ph. The pyridinolysis rate of 1c with a cyclic five-membered ring is $2.70{\times}10^5$ times faster than its acyclic counterpart (1a: phenyl ethyl chlorophosphate) because of great positive value of the entropy of activation of 1c (${\Delta}S^{\neq}$ = +26 eu) compared to negative value of 1a (${\Delta}S^{\neq}$= -24 eu) over considerably unfavorable enthalpy of activation of 1c (${\Delta}H^{\neq}=20.5kcal\;mol^{-1}$) compared to 1a (${\Delta}H^{\neq}=12.7kcal\;mol^{-1}$). Great enthalpy and positive entropy of activation are ascribed to sterically congested transition state (TS) and solvent structure breaking in the TS. A concerted mechanism involving a change of nucleophilic attacking direction from a frontside attack with the strongly basic pyridines to a backside attack with the weakly basic pyridines is proposed on the basis of greater selectivity parameters (${\rho}_X$ = -1.99 and ${\beta}_X$ = 0.41) with the strongly basic pyridines compared to those (${\rho}_X$ = -0.42 and ${\beta}_X$ = 0.07) with the weakly basic pyridines.
In this study, the 3D-QSARs (three-dimensional quantitative structure-activity relationships: CoMFA and CoMSIA) between structural changes of N-phenyl-O-phenylthionocarbamate analogues (1-30) and their fungicidal activities against the capsicum phytophthora (Phyophthora capsici) fungi were analyzed, then considered quantitatively in terms of minimum structural requirements for fungicidal evaluation. The statistical qualities ($r^2_{cv.}$ = 0.510 and $r^2_{ncv.}$ = 0.948) of the optimal CoMFA 1 model are improved over the other models in the conditions of field combinations, and the two alignments. In the optimal CoMFA 1 model, relative contribution percentages of the CoMFA field were: steric field, 52.3%; electrostatic field, 37.8%; hydrophobic field, 9.9%. Results were similar for the CoMFA 2 model. Therefore, the steric field of the analogues had the highest contribution ratio for fungicidal activity. Specifically, with the contour map of steric fields, the fungicidal activity increased when bulky steric Y-substituents were introduced to the meta-position on the N-phenyl ring and small steric Y-subsituents were introduced to its para-position.
New sulfur functionalized cyclopentadiene ligands, 1-[2-(thioanisole)]-2,5-dimethylcyclopentadiene (3), 1-[2- (thioanisole)]-2,3,5-trimethylcyclopentadiene (4), and 1-[2-(thioanisole)]-2,3,4,5-tetramethylcyclopentadiene (5), were prepared. In these ligands, the S-donor atom is connected to a cyclopentadiene ring by a rigid phenylene spacer. CpCo(III)-diiodo half-sandwich complexes (6-8) were obtained from reaction the ligands (3- 5) with Co2(CO)8, followed by treatment of I2. Substitution reaction of CpCo(III)-diiodo complexes with MeLi yielded the corresponding CpCo(III)-dimethyl complexes (9-11). Further transformation to the corresponding cationic cobalt complexes (12-14) were achieved by reaction of the CpCo(III)-dimethyl complexes with HB(ArF)4·2Et2O and trapping with CD3CN. The new sulfur functionalized cyclopentadiene ligands having a rigid phenylene spacer and the corresponding cobalt complexes were characterized by 1H, 13C and 19F NMR spectroscopy. The diiodo Complex 6 was also characterized by a single crystal X-ray diffraction method.
This study was carried out to evaluate the performance of a lab-scale novel septic tank system for improving the conventional septic tank in the developing countries of water shortages. The lab-scale novel septic tank system consists of sepetic tank, aeration tank with HBC-ring, and sand filter. Optimum HRT was reguired about 1.5days to get a total COD removal efficiency of 90%, COD, BOD and SS removal efficiency was about 70%, 60%, and 85% in sepetic tank only. The structure of sepetic tank with two stages results in the high removal efficiency of organic matter. When sepetic tank, aeration tank, and sand filter were more than HRT 1.5days, 18hrs, and 12hrs, respectively, final effluent was less than 20 mg/L of BOD, 14 mg/L of SS, so that there is a high potential of its use for reusing water in flush toilet. There is no significant effect of HRT change on nutrient removal. Total nitrogen removal efficiency was about 40%, final effluent was 30~40 mg/L of TN, total phosphorus removal efficiency was about 11~25%, final effluent was 9~12 mg/L of TP. Because there is very small amounts of organic nitrogen and phosphorus in effluent, it was possible to reuse water for agricultural use.
