This paper attempts to investigate the Korean households' inflation expectations with particular attention to information rigidity. For this purpose, we derive an empirical model from a sticky information model $\acute{a}$ la Mankiw and Reis (2002) and estimate it. In addition, it is also examined whether the expectation formation is state-dependent on macroeconomic conditions. The main findings of this paper are as follows. First, it turns out that the information rigidity in Korean households' inflation expectations is very high. In a month, most of the households simply keep their inflation expectations the same as before instead of updating them based on newly arrived information. Furthermore, when updating their expectations, the households tend to rely on the backward-looking information such as actual inflation rates in the past rather than on the forward-looking forecasts by experts. Second, it is found that the expectation formation is varying as inflation rate changes. Specifically, when the inflation is high, the sensitivity of the households' inflation expectations to actual inflation increases and the gap between inflation expectations and actual inflation shrinks. It implies that Korean households update their expectations more frequently when the inflation matters than not.
Effect of thermal processing upon the structure formation of surimi was investigated by differential scanning calorimeter (DSC), rigidity changes during heating, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). DSC studies showed the transition temperatures and heat capacity of the proteins during heating. Thermal transition peaks of the proteins were shifted to the lower temperatures or disappeared by the addition of salt and higher heating rate or setting treatment ($4^{\circ}C$ or $40^{\circ}C$). Whereas setting at $4^{\circ}C$ for 24hr produced elastic component and showed a permanent effect in rigidity development during heating, setting at $40^{\circ}C$ for 30 min produced a temporary effect. SEM studies in conjunction with rigidity scanning provided an insight into the structural features of the gel and helped clarify the setting and protein modification effects.
Rehabilitation and retrofitting of structures designed in accordance to standard design codes is an essential practice in structural engineering and design. For steel structures, one of the challenges is to strengthen the panel zone as well as its analysis in moment-resisting frames. In this research, investigations were undertaken to analyze the influence of the panel zone in the response of structural frames through a computational approach using ETABS software. Moment-resisting frames of six stories were studied in supposition of real panel zone, different values of rigid zone factor, different thickness of double plates, and both double plates and rigid zone factor together. The frames were analyzed, designed and validated in accordance to Iranian steel building code. The results of drift values for six stories building models were plotted. After verifying and comparing the results, the findings showed that the rigidity lead to reduction in drifts of frames and also as a result, lower rigidity will be used for high rise building and higher rigidity will be used for low rise building. In frames with story drifts more than the permitted rate, where the frames are considered as the weaker panel zone area, the story drifts can be limited by strengthening the panel zone with double plates. It should be noted that higher thickness of double plates and higher rigidity of panel zone will result in enhancement of the non-linear deformation rates in beam elements. The resulting deformations of the panel zone due to this modification can have significant influence on the elastic and inelastic behavior of the frames.

Fiber-reinforced plastics(FRPs) have excellent specific stiffness and strength, so they are usually used as automotive parts that require high rigidity and lightweight instead of metal. However, it is difficult to predict the mechanical properties of injection molded parts due to the fiber orientation and breakage of FRPs. In this paper, the fiber orientation characteristics and mechanical properties of injection molded specimens were evaluated in order to fabricate automotive transmission side covers with FRPs and design a rib structure for improvement of their rigidity. The test molds were designed and manufactured to confirm the fiber orientation characteristics of each position of the injection molded standard plate-shaped specimens, and the tensile properties of the specimens were evaluated according to the injection molding conditions and directions of specimens. A gusset-rib structure was designed to improve the additional structural rigidity of the target products, and a proper rib structure was selected through the flexural tests of the rib-structured specimens. Based on the evaluation of fiber orientation and mechanical characteristics, the optimization analyses of gate location were performed to minimize the warpage of target products. Also, the deformation analyses against the internal pressure of target product were performed to confirm the rigidity improvement by gusset-rib structure. As a result, it could be confirmed that the deformation was reduced by 27~37% compared to the previous model, when the gusset-rib structure was applied to the joining part of the target products.

The load distribution and deformation of single piles which is embedded in Jumunjin sand and Kimhae clay are investigated, based on small scale model tests. Special attention is given to the consideration of flexural rigidity in laterally loaded piles. To consider the flexural rigidity of the pile, tests are performed with the aluminium piles of three different length under different relative densities and undrained shear strength. The test results indicate that the initial slope from the results of tests is proportional to the depth and pile-soil rigidity in both soils. But the increasing rate of the initial slope in the clay is less than in the sand. In addition, the soil resistance is more related to the depth and soil condition than the pile rigidity. Base on the test results, an empirical formula is proposed, which is good agreement with previously published small scale model test and field lateral load test.

In this study, the ultimate shear strength behavior of transversely stiffened curved web panels was investigated through nonlinear finite element analysis. It was found that if the transverse stiffener has a sufficient rigidity, then curved web panels used in practical designs are able to develop the postbuckling strength that is equivalent to that of straight girder web panels having the same dimensional and material properties. The nonlinear analysis results indicate that in order for curved web panels to develop the potential postbuckling strength. The rigidity of the transverse stiffener needs to be increased several times the value obtained from the Guide Specifications (AASHTO, 2003). However, in the case of thick web panels where the shear design is governed by shear yielding, the stiffener rigidity does not have to be increased. From the analysis results, a simple design formula is suggested for the rigidity of transverse stiffener under strength limit state.

In case of rectangular latticed pattern which shearing rigidity is very small, it has a concern to drop Buckling-strength considerably by external force. So, by means of system to increase buckling-strength, there is a method of construction that lattice of dome is reinforced by braced member. In a case like this, shearing rigidity of braced member increase buckling-strength of the whole of structure and can be designed economically from the viewpoint of practice. Therefore, this paper is aimed at investigating how much does rigidity of braced member united with latticed member bearing principal stress of dome increase buckling-strength of the whole of structure. the subject of study is rectangular latticed domes that are a set of 2-way lattice dome which grid is simple and number of member gathering at junction is small. Analysis method is based on FEM dealing with the geometrically nonlinear deflection problems.
This paper deals with the development of an approach for evaluating the squash load and rigidity of unprotected concrete filled steel columns at elevated temperatures. The current approach of evaluating these properties is reviewed. It is shown that with a non-uniform temperature distribution, over the composite cross-section, the calculations for the squash load and rigidity are tedious in the current method. A simplified approach is proposed to evaluate the temperature distribution, squash load, and rigidity of composite columns. This approach is based on the model in Eurocode 4 and can conveniently be used to calculate the resistance to axial compression of a concrete filled steel column for any fire resistance time. The accuracy of the proposed approach is assessed by comparing the predicted strengths against the results of fire tests on concrete filled circular and square steel columns. The applicability of the proposed approach to a design situation is illustrated through a numerical example.

In this paper, modified Kelvin's model has been used to analyze the orthotropic vibration frequencies of single walled carbon nanotubes with clamped-clamped and clamped-free boundary conditions. For this system the governing equation is developed with wave propagation approach. Armchair, zigzag and chiral structures are considered for the vibrational analysis to investigate the effect of different modes, in-plane rigidity and mass density per unit lateral area. Throughout the computations, on decreasing the length-to-diameter ratios, the frequencies of said structure increases. In addition, by increasing three different value of in-plane rigidity resulting frequencies also increase and frequencies decrease on increasing mass density per unit lateral area. The results generated using computer software MATLAB to furnish the evidence regarding applicability of present model and also verified by available published literature.

Two types of conformal load-bearing antenna structure (CLAS) were designed with microwave composite laminates and Nomex honeycomb cores, to give both structural rigidity and good electrical performance. One is 4$\times$8 array for Synthetic Aperture Radar(SAR) system and the other is $5\times2$ array for wireless LAN system. Design was based on wide bandwidth, high polarization purity, low loss and good structural rigidity. We studied the design, fabrication and structural/electrical performances of the antenna structures. The flexural behavior was observed under a 3-point bending test, an impact test, and a buckling test. Electrical measurements were in good agreement with simulation results and these complex antenna structures have good flexural characteristics. The design of this antenna structure is extended to give a useful guide for sandwich panel manufacturers as well as antenna designers.
