Effect of marble waste fines on rheological and hardened properties of sand concrete

  • Faced with the growing needs of material resources and requirements of environmental protection for achieving sustainable development, it has become necessary to study and investigate all possibilities of exploring crushed and dune sand, reusing industrial wastes and by-product, and also applying new technologies including sand concrete which can replace the conventional concretes in certain structures to surmount the deficit on construction materials, conserve natural resources, lessen the burden of pollutants to protect the environment and reduce the consumption of energy sources. This experimental study is a part of development and valorization of local materials project in Skikda region (East of Algeria). It aims at studying the effects of partial replacement of sand with marble waste as fines on several fresh and hardened properties of sand concrete in order to reuse these wastes in the concrete manufacturing, resolve the environmental problems caused by them and find another source of construction materials. To achieve these objectives, an experimental program has been carried out; it was consisted to incorporate different percentages of marble waste fines (2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12%) in the formulations of sand concrete and study the development of several mechanical and rheological properties. We are also trying to find the optimal percentage of marble waste fine replaced in sand concrete that makes the strength of the concrete maximum. Obtained results showed that marble waste fines improve the properties of sand concrete and can be used as an additive material in sand concrete formulation.

말뚝 부마찰력 저감용 역청재료의 유변학적 특성 (Rheological Properties of Bitumen for Reducing Negative Skin Friction)

  • 본 연구는 말뚝 부마찰력 저감용으로 사용하는 역청재료의 유변학적 특성을 분석한 결과이다. 역청재료는 효과적으로 부마찰력을 저감시키고 경제적인 장점으로 인하여 말뚝의 부마찰력 저감 공법으로 사용하여 왔다. 본 연구에서는 세 종류의 말뚝용 역청재료를 선택하여 비교 시험을 실시하였다. 물리적 특성시험으로는 침입도 시험, 연화점 시험 및 침입도 지수를 실시하였으며 유변학적 시험으로는 동적전단 유동기를 사용하여 위상각, 복합계수, 크리프시험 및 흐름시험을 시험온도 15, 30, 45 및 6$0^{\circ}C$에서 수행하였다. 시험 결과는 역청재료의 유변학적 특성을 나타내는 위상각, G$^*$/sin $\delta$, 크리프 컴플라이언스 및 전단점도로 분석하여 상호 비교하였다. 시험 결과 온도와 위상각은 비례관계를 나타냈으며 G$^*$/sin $\delta$는 반비례 관계를 보였다. 또한, 크리프 컴플라이언스는 하중시간이 증가함에 따라 증가하여 역청재료가 시간의 변화에 따라 점성유체로 작용하는 것으로 나타났다. 크리프시험으로 인한 시간 및 온도의 변화는 크리프 컴플라이언스 값을 크게 변화 시켰으나 전단점도의 변화는 그다지 심하게 나타나지 않아서 말뚝 역청재료의 평가에는 크리프 컴플라이언스를 측정 할 수 있는 크리프시험이 적절한 것으로 평가되었다. 본 연구에서 유변학적 시험을 실시한 결과 물리적 시험으로부터 분석할 수 없는 온도와 시간의 변화에 따른 역청재료의 특성변화를 상세하게 분석할 수 있었는데 이러한 시험 결과는 말뚝용 역청재료의 선정에 큰 영향을 미칠 것으로 판단된다.

  • Rheological properties of dough made from waxy barley(Iri28) flour wheat flour mixtures with additives were investigated for the preparation of waxy barley bread using farinograph, extensograph and amy lograph. The water absorption, development time and dough weakness increased as the waxy barley flour level increased in all blends; however, dough stability decreased. Farinogram properties of 10% waxy barley flour added mixture were similar to those of 100% wheat flour. The addition of A.A(ascorbic acid), gluten, HPMC(hydroxy propyl methyl cellulose) improved rheological properties of dough with 30% waxy barley flour added mixture. In particular, stability and weakness of the dough showed greater dough improving effect by addition of A.A. For the extensograph data, strength, resistance and extensibility of dough decreased with increasing level of waxy barley flour. With the addition of additives, extensogram properties were variable for 30% waxy barley flour mixture. Of these additives, gluten had highest value in strength of dough. Addition of A.A and HPMC to 30% waxy barley flour added mixture resulted in an increase in the resistance and a decrease in the extensibility. Waxy barley flour added mixtures showed little higher gelatinization temperature on amylograph data than control. Maximum viscosity reduced as the waxy barley flour level increased. Also 30% waxy barley flour added mixture containing A.A and HPMC showed a decrease in maximum viscosity. But addition of gluten to 30% waxy barley flour mixture resulted an increase in the maximum viscosity. All of 30% waxy barley flour added mixture with additives had lower gelatinization temperature than those without additives. In the SEM images, starch granules were dispersed in a protein matrix. A non continuous, loose protein starch matrix was observed in all waxy barley flour mixture by SEM. Addition of additives gave the dough a more continuous structure with interactions between the starch granule and protein component.

  • 고점성을 갖는 미생물 생물 고분자에 대한 발효공정 분석 및 조절 연구의 일환으로 알카리 내성 Ba cillus sp.를 사용한 생물고분자의 발효 중 배양액의 유변학적 성질에 대한 경시변화를 조사하였으며, 균 체생육 및 생물 고분자의 생산과 유변학 특성 변화와의 상관관계를 검토하였다. 배양액의 유변학은 배양시간 경과에 따라 현저하 게 변화하여 더욱 점성이 있고, 또 의가소성이 증대 하면서 비뉴우톤 유체로서 거동하였다. 발효 중 유 통지수, 점조도지수, 항복융력 빛 겉보기 점도 등 유 변학 특성값은 균체증식에는 거의 영향을 받지 않고, biopolymer의 합성과 밀접한 상관성을 보였다. 또 유변학적 특성값의 변화는 생물고분자 농도만의 함수가 아니고 발효진행과 상관성을 보였고, 생물고 분자의 생성이나 기질 소비의 완료 직전에 최대값을 나타내었다. 따라서 이들 변화의 특성화는 발효경과 또는 완료에 대한 양호한 지표를 공급할 수 있음을 시사하였다.

  • In this study, rheological properties of ternary system cement containing ground fly ash(F3, Blaine specific surface area $8,100\;cm^2/g$) were investigated using mini slump, coaxial cylinder viscometer and conduction calorimeter. In the results, the segregation resistance was observed at high W/B and PC area while the replacement ratio of F3 was increasing. The 2:5:3 system was shown in higher fluidity and lower hydration heat than 3:4:3 system. The segregation range of cement pastes occurred over 175 mm in average diameter by mini slump and below $10\;dynesec/cm^2$ of the plastic viscosity or below 50 cP of the yield stress by coaxial cylinder viscometer. It was observed that even if BFS and FA blended together admixture properties would remaine as they were separately. The properties of admixture would not be changed. On the above results, the decreased replacement ratio of OPC and increased replacement ratio of admixtures would be possible.

  • 게살과 구조적으로 유사한 대두단백 섬유는 dope를 방사하여 얻은 것으로, 대두단백의 dispersion이나 dope의 성질에 의존한다. 대두단백섬유의 출발물질인 대두단백의 dispersion과 dope의 동적 물성을 측정함으로서 그들의 점탄성을 조사하였다. 단백질 농도가 증가할때 dispersion이나 dope모두 단백질간의 상호반응이 일어났다. Dispersion에 알칼리 용액을 넣은 dope는 고분자 중합물질에 상호연결된 특성을 나타내었다. 반면에 dispersion에서는 무정형 중합물질의 특성이 나타났다. Dispersion에 대한 화학변형이 동적물성에 미치는 영향도 관찰하였다.

Effect of temperature on the rheological properties of dental interocclusal recording materials

  • The purpose of this study was to compare rheological properties of six dental interocclusal recording materials and to investigate the effect of temperature on the rheological properties during setting. Five polyvinylsiloxane materials and one polyether material were investigated in this study. The storage modulus (G') and the loss factor ($tan{\delta}$) were measured from 30s after mixing during setting, using the universal dynamic spectrometer. Viscoelastic properties were evaluated by means of G' and $tan{\delta}$ from 5 repeats at $21^{\circ}C$ and $33^{\circ}C$. Individual changes during setting were also evaluated. All data were statistically analyzed using one-way ANOVA and multiple comparison $Scheff{\acute{e}}$ test at the significance level of 0.05. The mean of G was checked at $t_{set}$ (the setting time provided from manufacturer) and $t_{300}$ (the end of experimental time) and the mean of $tan{\delta}$ was checked at to and $t_{set}$. Whereas the increase of the G' value showed generally exponential changes at $21^{\circ}C$, the change of the G' value at $33^{\circ}C$ displayed sigmoidal curves during setting. The change of loss factor $tan{\delta}$ during setting varied. Within the limitations of this study, dental interocclusal recording materials had different viscoelastic properties and most of the materials showed different fluidity at $21^{\circ}C$ and $33^{\circ}C$.

Relations between rheological and mechanical properties of fiber reinforced mortar

  • Fresh and hardened behaviors of a new hybrid fiber (steel fiber, polyvinyl alcohol fiber and calcium carbonate whisker) reinforced cementitious composites (HyFRCC) with admixtures (fly ash, silica fume and water reducer) have been studied. Within the limitations of the equipment and testing program, it is illustrated that the rheological properties of the new HyFRCC conform to the modified Bingham model. The relations between flow spread and yield stress as well as flow rate and plastic viscosity both conform well with negative exponent correlation, justifying that slump flow and flow rate test can be applied to replace the other two as simple rheology measurement and control method in jobsite. In addition, for the new HyFRCC with fly ash and water reducer, the mathematical model between the rheological and mechanical properties conform well with the quadratic function, and these quadratic function curves are always concave upward. Based on mathematical analysis, an optimal range of rheology/ flowability can be identified to achieve ideal mechanical properties. In addition, this optimization method can be extended to PVA fiber reinforced cement-based composites.

  • The mechanical and rheological properties of agricultural materials which influence the machine design or handling are not completely understood. Agricultural materials do not react in a purely elastic manner, and their responses when subjected to stress and strain appear a combination of elastic and viscous behavior. Many researchers have studied the mechanical and rheological properties of the various agricultural materials, but those properties are available mostly for foreign varieties of agricultural products. Rheological properties of rice seedlings become important to formulate the principles governing their mechanical behavior. The objectives of this study were to experimentally determine the creep and recovery behavior of rice seedlings of one japonica-type and one Indica x japonica hybrid in the transplanting age. The results of this study are summarized as follows; 1. The compression creep and recovery behavior of mat-type seedlings could be described by 4-element Burger's model. 2. The steady-state creep appeared at the stress larger than 0.8 MPa and the logarithmic creep appeared at the stress smaller than 0.8 MPa. 3. In the compression creep test of the rice seedlings, the instantaneous elastic modulus of Burger's model showed the range from 20 to 40 MPa. The higher value of absolute viscosity for the rice seedling explained that the rice seedlings were viscoelastic materials. 4. In the recovery test of the rice seedlings, there was a tendency that the higher permanent strain of all samples was observed under the smaller stress being appeared, and the larger permanent strain in Dongjin was observed than in Samkang.

분지형 폴리프로필렌/실리케이트 복합체의 유변학적 특성 연구 (A Study on the Rheological Properties of Branched Polypropylene/silicate Composites)

  • 고상(solid state) 반응과 용융(melt state) 반응을 이용하여 장쇄분지(long chain branch, LCB)를 가지는 분지화된 폴리프로필렌(branched polypropylene, LCB-PP)을 제조하였다. 분지제(branching agent)로는 divinylbenzene (DVB), 1,4-benzenediol (RES), furfuryl sulphide (FS)가, LCB-PP/실리케이트 복합체를 제조하기 위해서는 층상 실리케이트가 사용되었다. LCB-PP의 화학구조, 열적특성, 유변학적 특성을 적외선 분광기(FT-IR), 시차주사열용량분석기(DSC, TGA), 그리고 동적유변측정기(ARES)를 이용하여 분석하였다. LCB-PP의 화학구조는 $3100cm^{-1}$에서 나타나는 분지제의 =C-H 신축진동을 이용하여 확인하였다. DSC와 TGA의 결과로부터 고상반응보다 용융반응이 LCB-PP 제조에 보다 효과적이었고, 유변학적 특성을 통하여 추가 확인되었다. 분지제 중에서는 FS가 가장 효과적이었다. LCB-PP의 경우 낮은 전단속도 영역에서 점도와 shear thinning tendency가 증가하였고, G'-G" plot으로부터 탄성특성의 증가와 LCB의 도입에 의한 용융상태의 불균일성(heterogeneousness)을 확인할 수 있었다. LCB-PP/실리케이트 복합체의 실리케이트 함량에 따른 유변학적 특성을 관찰하였다. 실리케이트의 함량이 5 wt%인 경우 면찰 담화(shear thinning)와 G'-G" plot에서의 기울기 변화가 가장 크게 나타났다.
