The current paper focuses on the analysis of transient cavitating flow in pressurised polyethylene pipes, which are characterized by viscoelastic rheological behaviour. A hydraulic transient solver that describes fluid transients in plastic pipes has been developed. This solver incorporates the description of dynamic effects related to the energy dissipation (unsteady friction), the rheological mechanical behaviour of the viscoelastic pipe and the cavitating pipe flow. The Discrete Vapour Cavity Model (DVCM) and the Discrete Gas Cavity Model (DGCM) have been used to describe transient cavitating flow. Such models assume that discrete air cavities are formed in fixed sections of the pipeline and consider a constant wave speed in pipe reaches between these cavities. The cavity dimension (and pressure) is allowed to grow and collapse according to the mass conservation principle. An extensive experimental programme has been carried out in an experimental set-up composed of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipes, assembled at Instituto Superior T$\acute{e}$cnico of Lisbon, Portugal. The experimental facility is composed of a single pipeline with a total length of 203 m and inner diameter of 44 mm. The creep function of HDPE pipes was determined by using an inverse model based on transient pressure data collected during experimental runs without cavitating flow. Transient tests were carried out by the fast closure of the ball valves located at downstream end of the pipeline for the non-cavitating flow and at upstream for the cavitating flow. Once the rheological behaviour of HDPE pipes were known, computational simulations have been run in order to describe the hydraulic behaviour of the system for the cavitating pipe flow. The calibrated transient solver is capable of accurately describing the attenuation, dispersion and shape of observed transient pressures. The effects related to the viscoelasticity of HDPE pipes and to the occurrence of vapour pressures during the transient event are discussed.

Morphological, thermal, rheological, and mechanical properties of reactive compatabilized blends of poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT) and Polyamide-6 (PA) containing EGMA copolymer were investigated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), advanced rheometric expansion system (ARES), and universal testing machine (UTM). From the results of thermal analysis by DSC, the melting point of the 30/70 PBT-PA blend was broadened after EGMA was added in the blends, since the enthalpy of melting of the PBT-PA somewhat decreased with the increase of EGMA content. From this result, it is suggested that the EGMA affected to the crystallization behavior and crystallinity of the PBT-PA blends. From SEM micrographs of the 70/30, 50/50, and 30/70 PBT-PA blends, the droplet size of the 30/70 PBT-PA blend was about 0.8 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ which was smaller than that of the 50/50 and 70/30 PBT-PA blends. The complex viscosity of the 30/70 PBT-PA blend observed to be higher than that of the 50/50 and 70/30 PBT-PA blends. From the results of the morphology and rheological properties for the PBT-PA blends, it is suggested that the compatibility is increased in the 30/70 PBT-PA blend than the 50/50 and 70/30 PBT-PA blends. From the results of mechanical properties, it was found that the tensile strength of the 30/70 PBT-PA blend increased with the increase of EGMA up to 2 phr, while tensile strength of the blend in which EGMA content was higher than 2 phr decreased with the increase of EGMA content. From the results of morphological, thermal, rheological, and mechanical properties for the PBT-PA-EGMA blends, it is suggested that the EGMA could be used as a compatibilization role in the blends.
Biodegradable polymeric blends are expected to be widely used by industry due to their environmental friendliness and comparable mechanical and thermal properties. Poly (lactic acid) (PLA) and poly (butylene succinate) (PBS) are such biodegradable polymers which aim to replace commodity polymers in future applications. Since cost and brittleness of PLA is quite high, it is not economically feasible to use it alone for day to day use as a packaging material without blending. In this study, blends of PLA and PBS with various compositions were prepared by using a laboratory-scale twin-screw extruder at $180^{\circ}C$. Morphological, thermal, rheological and mechanical properties were investigated on the samples obtained by compression molding to explore suitability of these compositions for packaging applications. Morphology of the blends was investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Morphology showed a clear phase difference trend depending on blend composition. Modulated differential scanning calorimetry (MDSC) thermograms of the blends indicated that the glass transition temperature ($T_g$) of PLA did not change much with the addition of PBS, but analysis showed that for PLA/PBS blend of up to 80/20 composition there is partial miscibility between the two polymers. The tensile strength and modulus were measured by the Instron Universal Testing Machine. Tensile strength, modulus and percentage (%) elongation at break of the blends decreased with PBS content. However, tensile strength and modulus values of PLA/PBS blend for up to 80/20 composition nearly follow the mixing rule. Rheological results also show miscibility between the two polymers for PBS composition less than 20% by weight. PBS reduced the brittleness of PLA, thus making it a contender to replace plastics for packaging applications. This work found a partial miscibility between PBS and PLA by investigating thermal, mechanical and morphological properties.
Changes in the rheological properties and the linear viscoelasticity of fish protein gel upon the thermal processing were studied by using mathematical models with stress-relaxation data. The linear viscoelasticity of surimi gel was observed in the range of the true strain $0.105{\sim}0.693$ and cross-head speed $50{\sim}250\;mm/min$ applied in this study. The results of the generalized Maxwell analysis showed that the magnitudes of elastic elements $(E,\;E_e)$ were increased, but the viscous element $({\eta}) $was decreased, as the cross-head speeds and strain levels were increased. Compared to the protein gel heated directly at $90^{\circ}C$ without preheating, the protein gel pretreated at $4^{\circ}C$ and $40^{\circ}C$ showed the higher elastic modulus, but showed different trends in the viscous component, depending on the rheological model applied. Thus, the approaching methods and curve fitting of two mathematical models of stress-relaxation to describe the viscoelastic properties of fish protein gel were discussed.
The effect of novel N-crotyl-N,N-dimethyl-4-methylanilinium hexafluoroantimonate (CMH) curing agent as a thermal latent initiator on thermal behaviors, rheological properties, and thermal stability of diglycidylether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) epoxy cationic system was investigated. From DSC measurements of DGEBA/CMH system, it was shown that this system exhibits an excellent thermal latent characteristic at a given temperature. The conversion and conversion rate of DGEBA/CMH system increased with increasing the concentration of initiator, due to high activity of CMH. Rheological properties of the system were investigated under isothermal condition using a rheometer The gelation time was obtained from the analysis of storage modulus (G'), loss modulus (G"), and damping factor (tan $\delta$). As a result, the reduction of gelation time was affected by high curing temperature and concentration of CMH, resulting in high degree of network formation in cationic polymerization, due to difference of activity. The thermal stability of the cured epoxy resin was discussed in terms of the activation energy for decomposition and thermal factors determined from TGA measurements.ents.
Nylon 12 elastomer was slightly crosslinked in molten state by the addition of small amount of dicumyl peroxide (DCP) as a crosslink agent and triallycyanuate (TAC) as a co-agent during melt compounding at $160^{\circ}C$ in an internal mixer. The effect of the peroxide crosslinking on mechanical, dynamic mechanical and rheological properties of the nylon 12 elastomer was investigated by means of tensile testing, dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) and small amplitude oscillating rheometer, respectively. With modification, there is an improvement in tensile modulus and Young's modulus with decease in elongation at break. DMA results for peroxide modified nylon 12 elastomers demonstrated that the glass transiaiton temperature of PTMG segment shifted to higher temperature and the storage modulus remained constant above the melting temperature of nylon 12 segments. Melt rheological studies revealed that the peroxide modified nylon 12 elastomer exhibited a more solid like behavior and stronger shear thinning behavior compared to neat nylon 12 elastomer, which was more prominent at higher TAC content in the polymer matrix. The peroxide modified nylon 12 elastomer exhibited good elastic recoverability and improved mechanical properties without sacrificing melt processibilty, and especially the service temperature range increased as compared to neat nylon 12 elastomer.

The objective of the paper is to investigate the effect of mix designing factors on the workability and rheological parameters of self compacting concrete in order to facilitate the difficulties of quality control of high sensitivity of SCC. Mix proportions of SCC were prepared with various conditions of coarse, and fine aggregate, and unit water content, and the SCC mixtures were tested on workability, rheological properties to provide basic data for quantitative evaluation. Test results indicated that the yield stress of SCC decreased with increasing the coarse aggregate volume ratio, and increased with increasing the amount of VMA. However, unit water content, fine aggregate type, and air content didn't affect the yield stress value. The plastic viscosity according to the mixing factors showed a similar tendency to the yield stress. In addition, there was no correlation between yield stress and workability (flow, T50, V-lot). However, there was closely correlation among plastic viscosity and T50 and V-lot. Especially, T50 and V-lot time decreased with decreasing plastic viscosity.
The objective of the present study was to compare the chemical, rheological and sensory properties of regular process cheese (control) and cholesterol-reduced block-type process cheese. The cholesterol-reduced process cheese was made by accelerated ripened cholesterol-reduced Cheddar cheese and cholesterol-reduced butter treated by crosslinked $\beta$-cyclodextrin ($\beta$-CD). The composition of the block-type process cheese was similar to the control cheese. Approximately 91.0% of cholesterol removal was observed when treated by crosslinked $\beta$-CD. The production of total free amino acids was significantly higher in cholesterol-reduced process cheese in all storage periods compared with those in the control. In sensory analysis, a significantly higher score of acidic, salty and bitterness. and lower score of elasticity were found. However, no difference was found in free fatty acids, rheological properties, and TBA test between the control and cholesterol-reduced process cheese. Therefore, the present study indicated that even though some of the significant difference was observed in sensory properties in the cholesterol-reduced block-type process cheese, most of chemical and rheological properties were comparable to the control process cheese.

Polypropylene (PP)/talc compounds with talc content of 20wt% were fabricated by master-batch (MB) and direct compounding method using injection molding. The MB was prepared by mini compounder at $200^{\circ}C$ and the content of talc was 50wt%. The talc dispersion of the PP/talc compound was investigated by SEM-EDS. The talc was well dispersed within PP matrix in case of the MB-PP compound using MB. The rheological properties of the PP/talc compounds were measured by dynamic Rheometer. The MB-PP compound indicates higher shear thinning and elastic property than direct compound. The disperion of talc was certified by G'-G" plot, and Van Gurp-Palmen analysis was applied in order to certify an increase in elasticity.

Powder flowability is critical in additive manufacturing processes, especially for laser powder bed fusion. Many powder features, such as powder size distribution, particle shape, surface roughness, and chemical composition, simultaneously affect the flow properties of a powder; however, the individual effect of each factor on powder flowability has not been comprehensively evaluated. In this study, the impact of particle shape (sphericity) on the rheological properties of Ti-6Al-4V powder is quantified using an FT4 powder rheometer. Dynamic image analysis is conducted on plasma-atomized (PA) and gas-atomized (GA) powders to evaluate their particle sphericity. PA and GA powders exhibit negligible differences in compressibility and permeability tests, but GA powder shows more cohesive behavior, especially in a dynamic state, because lower particle sphericity facilitates interaction between particles during the powder flow. These results provide guidelines for the manufacturing of advanced metal powders with excellent powder flowability for laser powder bed fusion.
