본 연구는 사용자 인터페이스의 문제점을 사용자의 입장에서 조명하고 사용자 인터페이스의 중요성과 사용자 중심적 설계의 필요성을 강조하고자 하였다. 사용자들이 검색성능이 우수하지 않은 검색시스템을 이용하면서도 만족을 느끼는 False Positives 현상은 사용하기 쉽고 편리하다고 인식하는 웹 기반의 인터페이스를 사용할 때 선명하게 들어 남에 따라 인터페이스의 중요성이 부각되고 있다. 정보검색시스템이 우수한 검색성능과 다양한 기능을 가지고 있다하더라도 사용자는 이 기능들을 사용하기 편리하고 유용하지 않는 한 전혀 활용하지 않는다는 현상을 목격한 ELSA시스템 구축팀은 인터페이스의 중요성을 인식하고 인터페이스를 사용자 중심적으로 설계하고자 노력하였다. 사용자의 검색행태, 사용자의 선호, 사용자의 요구사항을 인터페이스 컨셉으로 반영하고 그 컨셉을 만족시킬 수 있는 구체적인 방안을 강구한 ELSA 시스템 구축 사례를 고찰함으로써 사용자 중심적인 인터페이스 설계의 중요성을 노정하고자 하였다.

본 연구에서는 웹기반 정보검색시스템을 사용함에 있어 이용자 편의성을 최적화할 수 있는 검색 인터페이스 표준 용어를 제안하였다. 이를 위해 국립중앙도서관을 비롯하여 주요 전문 정보를 제공하고 있는 기관의 웹페이지를 조사. 분석하였다. 분석한 결과에 근거하여 웹기반 정보검색시스템에서 사용자 오류와 혼란을 최소화하고 검색 편의성을 극대화할 수 있는 표준 용어를 제안하였다. 제안의 기준은 해당 용어의 사용빈도와 의미를 활용하였다. 분석은 검색관련 기본 모듈을 비롯하여 검색범위설정 모듈, 이용자 지원 모듈에서 사용된 용어 가운대 최소 50%이상의 기관에서 제공하는 기능에 존재하는 용어만을 대상으로 하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 웹 기반 검색화면 설계 및 구축 전문가에게 검색 관련 용어선정을 위한 표준 자료로 활용될 것이다.

In this paper, we propose a novel approach of user interface for querying Digital Video Library. Through the proposed user interface, the users can specify the query more easily and precisely for image and video retrieval, resulting in better retrieval accuracy of the system. The prototype of the proposed system allows specification of character, atmosphere, implement, mapping and event for the query. This prototype not only provides users with the convenience of query specification in various aspects, but also can easily be extended to the retrieval systems of various multimedia data.

Multimedia systems present information by using various media, for example, video, sound, music, animation, movie, etc., in addition to the text which has long been used for conveying the information. Among many multimedia applications, the multimedia information retrieval systems commercialized in the form of multimedia encyclopedia CD-ROMs, benefit by using various media for their ability to present information in an efficient and complete way. But using various media may cause end users' confusion and furthermore, poor user-interface design often exacerbates the systems. For appropriate design of the user interface of multimedia information retrieval systems, we investigated the characteristics of the multimedia information retrieval systems and listed 35 variables that might affect the usability of the user interface. And we selected 10 variables through some procedures such as brainstorming, literature survey, expert opinion, relevance analysis and feasibility analysis, in order to perform a screening study which will remarkably reduce the cost and time in conducting subsequent human factors experiments.

본 연구는 디지털 콘텐츠로 변환된 한국화 이미지를 이용자가 원하는 접근점을 이용하여 특정적으로 검색할 수 있으며 동시에 한국화만이 지니는 형태적 또는 소재적 특징을 이용하여 폭넓게 브라우징 할 수 있도록 하는 한국화 검색 인터페이스를 설계하였다. 이를 위해서는 먼저 한국화를 설명하기 적합한 상세한 한국화 기술요소 세트(26개의 핵심요소와 172개의 하위 속성요소)를 2차에 걸친 실무자 및 전문가의 검토를 걸쳐 구축하였다. 다음으로, 이용자가 선호하는 한국화검색 접근점을 파악하기 위하여 전공자와 일반이용자로 구성된 300명에게 26개의 기술요소의 검색접근점 선호도에 대한 설문 조사하였다. 설문조사결과를 바탕으로 전공자와 일반이용자가 접근점으로 가장 선호하는 각각의 15개 기술요소를 선정하였다. 마지막으로, 이를 기반으로 전문가와 일반인을 위한 한국화검색 인터페이스와 디스플레이 인터페이스를 제안하였다. 이와 같은 이용자 중심의 검색이 가능한 플랫폼을 제공함으로서 이용자의 이미지 검색 만족도를 높일 수 있을 것으로 본다.

최근 특정 도메인의 개념에 대한 정확한 정의, 계층적 관계나 추론규칙을 정형화된 어휘로 기술된 온톨로지 지식을 기반하는 시맨틱 탐색기법이 정보검색시스템에 응용됨에 따라 이용자는 보다 쉽게 지식기반을 항해할 수 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 의미적 애매성을 줄여주고, 의미적 관계성을 제시해 줌으로서 이용자가 보다 정확하고 쉽게 정보를 검색할 수 있게 해주는 온톨로지 기반의 정보검색 인터페이스를 개발하는 것이다. 이를 위해서 본 연구는 연구자정보 기술요소들의 클래스의 계층관계, 데이터의 계층관계 및 속성, 관계 연계성을 정의하였고 이를 기반으로 하여 구조화된 온톨로지를 기반으로 기술된 연구자정보를 검색할 수 있는 검색 인터페이스를 제안하였다. 이용자는 연구자들의 연구결과물, 개인적 데이터, 학력 또는 경력과 같은 개인정보를 검색할 수 있을 뿐만 아니라, 연구자의 사회적 연결 즉 같은 주제의 연구나 강의를 수행하는 연구자들 또는 같은 분야의 지적 커뮤니케이션에 속하는 연구자들을 브라우징 할 수 있다.

Among many multimedia applications, the multimedia information retrieval systems commercialized in the forms of multimedia encyclopedia CD-ROMs, benefited from various media for their ability to present information in an efficient and complete way. But using several media, on the other hand, may cause end users' confusion and furthermore, poorly designed user interface often exacerbates the situation. In this study, the multimedia systems were studied from the standpoint of usability. The conceptual framework of the user interface of the multimedia system was newly defined. And 100 initial variables for user interface design of general multimedia systems were suggested through literature survey and expert opinions based upon the framework developed. Among various application areas, the multimedia information retrieval systems were chosen for investigation, and 36 variables particularly relevant to user interface of the multimedia information retrieval systems were selected. According to the sequential research strategy, the variables that were considered to be most important were finally selected through a screening stage. A part of selected variables were verified through a human factors experiment as the first step of sequential research. Based upon the result of the experiment, guidelines for user interface design were provided. For future study, the variables remained will be Investigated and the study will expand to another application areas.

Many works have been done in the field of retrieving audio segments that contain human speeches without captions. To retrieve newly coined words and proper nouns, subwords were commonly used as indexing units in conjunction with query or document expansion. Among them, document expansion with subwords has serious drawback of large computation overhead. Therefore, in this paper, we propose Expected Matching Score based document expansion that effectively reduces computational overhead without much loss in retrieval precisions. Experiments have shown 13.9 times of speed up at the loss of 0.2% in the retrieval precision.

소프트웨어 재사용과 형상 관리, 그리고 버전제어를 위해서는 소프트웨어 구성 요소를 검색할 수 있는 검색시스템과 라이브러리의 구성이 중요한 문제로 제기된다. 검색 시스템은 많은 구성요소(component)를 저장하고, 빠른 시간 안에 키워드를 이용 하여원하는 구성요소를 검색할 수 있어야 한다. 기존의 검색 방법은 대부분 키워드나 내용을 기반으로한 역 파일 개념 등이 사용되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 객체지향 프로 그래밍 언어인 Smallcoal에서 Set와 Bag 클래스를 이용하여 키워드를 사용하면서도 내용을 기반으로 구성요소를 찾는 검색 시스템을 제안한다. 이방법은 사용자 인터세 이스와 이를 관리하기 위한 기능을 향상시킨다. 또한, 검색시스템과 함께 라이브러 리를 제안하고, 이를 관리하고 제어하기 위한 사용자 인터페이스를 설계 구성하였다. 본 논문의 검색 시스템은 다른 언어와의 인터페이스를 통해 사용될 수 있으며, 이 시스템은 버전 제어를 위한 검색 시스템과 라이브러리를 제공한다.

이용자 중심의 인터페이스 개발은 현재 검색시스템에서 가장 중요한 이슈가 되고 있다. 인터페이스에서 은유모형의 사용은 바로 이용자 편의성을 높이는 방안이라 할 수 있다. 본 연구는 은유모형에 대한 이용자의 전반적인 의견을 조사하였고 대학도서관과 공공도서관의 검색 인터페이스에서 실제 사용되고 있는 은유모형을 대상으로 하여 의미 인지도와 의미 전달도를 평가하여 전반적인 은유모형의 유용성을 분석하였다. 현재 사용퇴고 있는 은유모형 즉 메타포는 그 이미지가 서로 비슷비슷하고 내포하는 의미가 유일하지 못하는 문제점을 가지고 있어 이용자에게 혼동을 야기 시키는 경향을 발견하였다. 또한 몇몇 메타포는 내용을 설명하고 있는 텍스트와 메타포 이미지간의 의미적 관계가 명료하지 않게 나타났다. 따라서 앞으로 개발될 기능적 메타포는 인터페이스에서 미적인 효과뿐만 아니라 작업을 쉽게 이해할 수 있도록 하고 학습 및 기억을 도와줄 수 있어야 하며, 기존의 경험/지식 또는 실제 환경에 기반으로 하여 개발되어야 할 것이다. 또한 실제 환경 그 자체를 은유화 시켜 온라인 환경을 구성하는 조직 메타포를 검색인터페이스에 응용시키는 방안도 앞으로 강구되어야 할 것이다.
