Scallop, Patinopecten yessoensis (Jay), cultivated in the cold east coast of Kangwon region in Korea, is expected to be produced to about 50,000 tons in 2000 year. First of all, scallop should be exuviated to process for new goods. In this study, preservatives such s sorbate, lactate, benzoic acid, and lysozyme were to extend the shelf-life of exuviated scallop boiled with steam for 10 min. The addition of preservatives retarded the decrease in pH, and inhibited the productions of VBN, TMA, and TBA of exuviated scallop stored at $5^{\circ}C$ in the latter period of storage. They also inhibited the microbial growth, especially in the first period of storage. The estimated values of shelf-life of boiled and exuviated scallops for control, sorbate, lactate, benzoic acid, and lysozyme were about 22, 26, 29, 25, and 27 days, respectively.
The chromosomal sprD gene encoding Streptomyces griseus protease D (SGPD), a chymotrypsin-like protease, was disrupted in Streptomyces griseus by insertion of the neomysin-resistance gene. The production of chymotrypsin activity of sprD disruptant was not completely abolished, but delayed by 24 h, compared with that of wild-type strain. The aerial mycelial formation of sprD disruptant was retarded, and specifically the formation of spores was not observed in the central region of colonies. However, normal morphological development into spores was observed in the marginal region of colonies. In addition, the production of yellow pigment that might be dependent on A-factor was also decreased in the sprD disruptant, compared with that of the wild-type strain. Introduction of the sprD gene, which was placed on a high copy-numbered plasmid into S. griseus ${\Delta}sprD$, partially restored the ability of morphological development, and a significant level of sporulation was observed. When the overexpression vector for sprD, pWHM3-D, was introduced in S. griseus, there was no significant change in the chymotrypsin activity or colonial morphology, in contrast to Streptomyces lividans, indicating the presence of a tight regulation system for the overexpression of the sprD gene in S. griseus.

In past years, numerous problems have vexed engineers with regard to buckling, corrosion, bending, and overloading in damaged steel structures. This article sets out to investigate the possible effects of carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) and steel plates for retrofitting deficient steel square hollow section (SHS) columns. The effects of axial loading, stiffness, axial displacement, the position and shape of deficient region on the length of steel SHS columns, and slenderness ratio are examined through a detailed parametric study. A total of 14 specimens was tested for failure under axial compression in a laboratory and simulated using finite element (FE) analysis based on a numerical approach. The results indicate that the application of CFRP sheets and steel plates also caused a reduction in stress in the damaged region and prevented or retarded local deformation around the deficiency. The findings showed that a deficiency leads to reduced load-carrying capacity of steel SHS columns and the retrofitting method is responsible for the increase in the load-bearing capacity of the steel columns. Finally, this research showed that the CFRP performed better than steel plates in compensating the axial force caused by the cross-section reduction due to the problems associated with the use of steel plates, such as in welding, increased weight, thermal stress around the welding location, and the possibility of creating another deficiency by welding.
The ODSCC detected in the TSP position of Ulchin 3&4 SGs are typical ODSCC of Alloy 600MA tubes. The causative chemical environment is formed by concentration of impurities inside the occluded region formed by the tube surface, egg crate strips, and sludge deposit there. Most cracks are detected at or near the line contacts between the tube surface and the egg crate strips. The region of dense crack population, as defined as between $4^{th}$ and $9^{th}$ TSPs, and near the center of hot leg hemisphere plane, coincided well with the region of preferential sludge deposition as defined by thermal hydraulics calculation using SGAP computer code. The cracks developed homogeneously in a wide range of SGs, so that the number of cracks detected each outage increased very rapidly since the first detection in the $8^{th}$ refueling outage. The root cause assessment focused on investigation of the difference in microstructure and manufacturing residual stress in order to reveal the cause of different susceptibilities to ODSCC among identical six units. The manufacturing residual stress as measured by XRD on OD surface and by split tube method indicated that the high residual stress of Alloy 600MA tube played a critical role in developing ODSCC. The level of residual stress showed substantial variations among the six units depending on details of straightening and OD grinding processes. Youngwang 3&4 tubes are less susceptible to ODSCC than U3 and U4 tubes because semi-continuous coarse chromium carbides are formed along the grain boundary of Y3&4 tubes, while there are finer less continuous chromium carbides in U3 and U4. The different carbide morphology is caused by the difference in cooling rate after mill anneal. There is a possibility that high chromium content in the Y3&4 tubes, still within the allowable range of Alloy 600, has made some contribution to the improved resistance to ODSCC. It is anticipated that ODSCC in Y5&6 SGs will be retarded more considerably than U3 SGs since the manufacturing residual stress in Y5&6 tubes is substantially lower than in U3 tubes, while the microstructure is similar with each other.

This study constructed buildings database to investigate deterioration of buildings of each dong that was minimum administrative region classified for administrative convenience, and spatial structure analysis for Urban Regeneration in Busan. Legal standards have not been established yet. Therefore, the study conducted quantitative analysis based on the Law of Urban and Dwelling Environment Improvement as well as the Special Law of Promotion of Urban Reorganization to find out problems of existing legal systems and to make use of investigation results as basic material of Urban Regeneration project in the future. And, the study investigated physical deterioration of buildings, and characteristics and types of the variables such as population, welfare, business entities at each dong, that is to say, basic administration unit of the government through Factor-Analysis.
The co-sensitization of N719 with a cyclic thiourea functionalized organic dye, coded AZ5, for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) was demonstrated. Due to its intensive absorption in ultraviolet region, AZ5 could compensate the loss of light harvest induced by triiodide, thereby the short-circuit photocurrent density ($J_{sc}$) was increased for co-sensitized (N719+AZ5) DSSC. Moreover, the electron recombination and dye aggregation were retarded upon N719 cocktail co-sensitized with AZ5, thus the open-circuit voltage ($V_{oc}$) of co-sensitized device was enhanced as well. The increased $J_{sc}$ (17.9 $mA{\cdot}cm^{-2}$) combined with the enhanced $V_{oc}$ (698 mV) ultimately resulted in an improved power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 7.91% for co-sensitized DSSC, which was raised by 8.6% in comparison with that of N719 (PCE = 7.28%) sensitized alone. In addition, co-sensitized DSSC exhibited a better stability than that of N719 sensitized device probably due to the depression of dye desorption.

Single-phase convection and nucleate boiling heat transfer were locally investigated for confined planar water jets. The detailed distributions of the wall temperature and the convection coefficient as well as the typical boiling curves were discussed. The curve for the single-phase convection indicated the developing laminar boundary layer, accompanied by monotonic increase of the wall temperature in the stream direction. Boiling was initiated from the furthest downstream as heat flux increased. Heat transfer variation according to the streamwise location was reduced as heat flux increased enough to create the vigorous nucleate boiling. Velocity effects were considered for the confined free-surface jet. Higher velocity of the jet caused the boiling incipient to be delayed more. The transition to turbulence precipitated by the bubble-induced disturbance was obvious only for the highest velocity, which enabled the boiling incipient to start in the middle of the heated surface, rather than the furthest downstream as was the case of the moderate and low velocities. The temperature at offset line were somewhat tower than those at the centerline for single-phase convection and partial boiling, and these differences were reduced as the nucleate boiling developed. For the region prior to transition, the convection coefficient distributions were similar in both cases while the temperatures were somewhat lower in the submerged jet. For single-phase convection, transition was initiated at $x/W{\cong}2.5$ and completed soon for the submerged jet, but the onset of transition was retarded to the distance at $x/W{\cong}6$ for the fee-surface jet.

This paper is considered about centerline segregation of API 5L steel used in pipeline. Mn/S, Nb and C were known as segregated elements in the centerline of pipe thickness. The Mn usually was accompanied by S consisting of long viscous shape. Microstructure of the centerline was composed of MnS and Nb/Ti indusions including oxide. The segregation effect in centerline region was analyzed by OM, SEM/EDS and micro Vickers hardness. The Mn, Nb and C are retarded elements in transformation from austenite to ferrite or martensite. These elements could derive a bainitic microstructure as a kind of martensite, which is different from difference and element segregation between in matrix and centerline derived from steel melting and heat treatment.

The effect of pressure gradients on the hairpin structures in three different turbulent boundary layers (ZPG : Re(sub)$\theta$=910, FPG : Re(sub)$\theta$=575, APG : Re(sub)$\theta$=1290) has been examined with instantaneous velocity fields obtained in streamwise-wall-normal planes using PIV (particle image velocimetry) method. In the outer layer hairpin vortices occur in streamwise-aligned packets that propagate with small velocity dispersion. The signature pattern of the hairpin consists of a spanwise vortex core located above a region of strong second quadrant fluctuation (u<0 and v>0 : Q2 event) is clearly observed. The formation of packets explains the occurrence of multiple VITA events in turbulent burst. Noticeable differences are found in the average inclination angles of hairpin vortex packets which are 45$^{\circ}$, 35.7$^{\circ}$, and 51.9$^{\circ}$in the case of ZPG, FPG and APG, respectively. It is found that the large, time-varying, irregularly shaped zones with nearly constant streamwise momentum exist throughout the boundary layer. Within the interior of the envelope the spatial coherence between the velocity fields induced by the individual vortices leads to strongly retarded streamwise momentum, explaining the zones of uniform momentum. The formation of the uniform momentum zone is remarkably different with respect to the pressure gradients especially in the logarithmic layer.
Purpose: To observe the histologic pattern of healing in molar tooth extraction sockets of streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats following irradiation. Materials and Methods: Mature Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into three groups: control, diabetic, and diabetic-irradiated groups. Diabetes mellitus was induced by injecting streptozotocin. Control rats were injected with a citrate buffer only. After 5 days, the right maxillary first molar was extracted under general anesthesia from each of the rats. After the extraction, rats in the diabetic-irradiated group were irradiated with a single absorbed dose of 10 Gy to the head and neck region. The rats were killed at 1, 3, 7, 14, 21, and 28 days after treatment. Tissue sections were stained with hematoxylin-eosin and Masson's trichrome. Results: In the diabetic and diabetic-irradiated groups, the early healing process of the socket extraction was similar to the control group, but bone formation was delayed at 7 days after the treatment. In the diabetic-irradiated group, alveolar bone surrounding the extraction socket showed signs of necrosis at 3 days after treatment, and hemorrhage was observed in connective tissue within the extraction socket at 14 days after treatment. Conclusion: This experiment revealed that the healing process of the extraction socket was severely delayed and retarded by irradiation in the diabetic state.
