  • In this paper, an engine-CVT integrated control algorithm is suggested by considering the powertrain loss, inertia torque and the CVT ratio response lag. The integrated control algorithm consists of (1) the optimal engine power calculation and (2) determining of the optimal throttle valve opening and the optimal CVT ratio. The optimal engine power is obtained by compensating the inertia torque due to the CVT ratio change and the powertrain loss that is calculated iteration procedure. In addition, an algorithm to compensate the effect of the CVT ratio response lag on the drive torque is suggested by the engine speed compensation causing the increased optimal CVT ratio. Simulation results show that the engine-CVT integrated control algorithm developed in this study makes it possible to obtain better engine operation on the optimal operating line, which results in the improved fuel economy while satisfying the driver's demand.

  • In this study, seismic response mitigation effect of an MR damper generating response-dependent frictional force is investigated. It has been reported in previous studies that passively operated MR damper with constant input current doesn't show better control performance than semi-active MR damper with varying input current calculated by control algorithms such as linear quadratic regulator and sliding mode control. However, in order to operate the MR damper semi-actively, other control systems besides the damper itself such as sensors for measuring structural responses and controller for calculating optimal input current are necessary, which deteriorate the economical efficiency. This study presents a MR damper generating frictional force of which magnitude is controlled in accordance to the displacement and velocity transferred to the damper. Numerical analyses results indicate that the performance of the response dependent MR damper is closely related with the range of the friction force and it can be designed to short better control performance than the passive MR damper.

  • The inter-conversion between different control laws in flight has a lot of risk. The SWM(Switching Mechanism) including logic and stand-by mode is designed to analyze the transient response of aircraft during inter-conversion between different control laws, based on the in-house software for non-real-time and real-time simulation. The SWM applies the fader logic of TFS(Transient Free Switch) to minimize the transient response of an aircraft during the inter-conversion, and applies the reset '0' type of the stand-by mode to prevent surface saturation due to integrator effect in the disengaged flight control law. The transition time is also important to minimize the objectionable transient response in the inter-conversion, as well as the transition control law design. This paper addresses the results of non-real-time simulation for the characteristics of transient response to different transition time to select the adequate transient time, and the real-time pilot evaluation, using SSWM(Software Switching Mechanism) and HSWM(Hardware Switching Mechanism), which is met for Level 1 flying qualities and assures safety of flight.

  • The most effective passive vibration control and seismic resistance options in a reinforced concrete (RC) high-rise building (HRB) are the base isolation and the tuned mass damper (TMD) system. Many options, which may be suitable or not for different soil types, with different types of bearing systems, like rubber isolator, friction pendulum isolator and tension/compression isolator, are investigated to resist the base straining actions under five different earthquakes. TMD resists the seismic response, as a control system, by reducing top displacement or the total movement of the structure. Base isolation and TMDs work under seismic load in a different way, so the combination between base isolation and TMDs will reduce the harmful effect of the earthquakes in an effective and systematic way. In this paper, a comprehensive study of the combination of TMDs with three different base-isolator types for three different soil types and under five different earthquakes is conducted. The seismic response results under five different earthquakes of the studied nine RC HRB models (depicted by the top displacement, base shear force and base bending moment) are compared to show the most suitable hybrid passive vibration control system for three different soil types.

  • The translation system is made up of springs, masses and a dashpot. This precise piece of equipment is controlled electro-mechanically by a motor and operating program. The control strategy of the system can be changed by spring stiffness, change of mass, and the damping coefficient of the dashpot. This system proves the necessity and effect of a closed loop control. In this paper, PD control experiments were implemented for the translation system. When the north falter was added on the PD controller, we compared the response characteristics of the two systems. The state feedback controller minimized scalar control gains and the resulting response characteristics of the system were studied using the LQR design. Finally, we improved the response characteristics of the translation system which are rising time, settling time, steady state error, and overshoot LQR was better as compared with PD control.

  • A water-soluble basic extract was obtained from Zizyphi spinosi semen and tested on its sedative and psychotropic activities. In a 2.2m $\times$ 2.2m $\times$ 0.8m open-field, the effect of the extract on unlearned emotional responses of mice was determined. Intraperitoneal injection of 5mg/kg, 10mg/kg, and 20mg/kg of the extract caused to show less often the frequency of ambulation, rearing and exploration and more the frequency of lying and sleeping than that of placebo control, meprobamate and chlordiazepoxide treated groups. In a standard shuttle box, the effect of the extract on learned emotional responses was determined. Intraperitoneal injection of 10mg/kg of the extract caused to show less conditioned response, secondary conditioned response and defecation than either placebo control or pre- and post-treated sessions with the extract throughout the acquisition and extinction of conditioned avoidance response. Intraperitoneal injection of 10mg/kg of the extract showed similar sedative actions with that of 1.25mg/kg of chlorpromazine. The extract shows major tranquilizer-like effect as chlorpromazine.

  • In order to meet the low voltage ride-through requirement in a grid code, a wind power plant (WPP) has to stay connected to a grid, supporting the voltage recovery for a grid fault. To do this, a plant-level controller as well as a wind generator (WG) controller is essential. The dynamic response of a WPP should be analyzed in order to design a plant-level controller. The dynamic response of a WPP for a grid fault is the collective response of all WGs, which depends on the wind speed approaching the WG. Thus, the dynamic response of a WPP should be analyzed by taking the wake effect into consideration, because different wind speeds at WGs will result in different responses of the WPP. This paper analyzes the response of a doubly fed induction generator (DFIG)-based offshore WPP with a grid fault taking into account the wake effect. To obtain the approaching wind speed of a WG in a WPP, we considered the cumulative impact of multiple shadowing and the effect of the wind direction. The voltage, reactive power, and active power at the point of common coupling of a 100 MW DFIG-based offshore WPP were analyzed during and after a grid fault under various wind and fault conditions using an EMTP-RV simulator. The results clearly demonstrate that not considering the wake effect leads to significantly different results, particularly for the reactive power and active power, which could potentially lead to incorrect conclusions and / or control schemes for a WPP.

  • In this study, the response surface modeling of the pretilt angle control using in-situ photoalignment method with oblique UV exposure .on plastic substrate is investigated. The pretilt angle is the main factor to determine the alignment of the liquid crystal display. The response surface model is used to analyze the variation of the pretilt angle on the various process conditions. Heating temperature and UV exposure time are considered as input factors. The liquid crystal (LC) pretilt angle increased with increasing heating temperature and UV exposure time. The analysis of variance is used to analyze the statistical significance and the effect plots are also investigated to examine the relationship between the process parameters and the response.
