A car horn serves a crucial safety role as a means of communication between drivers and a part that alerts pedestrians in advance. While previous studies have utilized finite element method and electric circuit model to simulate and analyze characteristics of the car horns, there remains a lack of research on design methods of a trumpet horn. This paper presents a design approach that predicts the operating frequency based on the acoustic reactance at the throat of the horn, once the vibrating part is determined. We deal with a horn combining both an exponential horn and a waveguide in the acoustic section, and confirm that the acoustic reactance at the horn throat measured by impedance tube experiment agrees well compared with the numerical result obtained using the finite element method. The resonance frequency of the car horn is predicted using the COMSOL Multiphysics finite element numerical analysis model, and the proposed design method is validated by measuring the operating frequency of the designed horn in a sound pressure experiment. As a result, the resonance measured in a semi-anechoic chamber environment by applying a DC voltage of 12 [V] excluding the holder occurs accurately within a few [Hz] of the design operating frequency. This paper discuss the design method of a trumpet horn from the perspective of the horn's acoustic reactance, and is expected to be useful for designing horn systems.

In this paper, three kinds of 24 GHz low-power CMOS cross-coupled voltage controlled oscillators are designed and fabricated for a short-range radar applications using TSMC 0.13 ${\mu}m$ CMOS process. The basic CMOS crosscoupled voltage controlled oscillator is designed for oscillating around a center frequency of 24.1 GHz and subthreshold oscillators are developed for low power operation from it. A double resonant circuit is newly applied to the subthreshold oscillator to improve the problem that parasitic capacitance of large transistors in a subthreshold oscillator can push the oscillation frequency toward lower frequencies. The fabricated chips show the phase noise of -101~-103.5 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz offset, the output power of -11.85~-15.33 dBm and the frequency tuning range of 475~852 MHz. In terms of power consumption, the basic oscillator consumes 5.6 mW, while the subthreshold oscillator does 3.3 mW. The subthreshold oscillator with the double resonant circuit shows relatively lower power consumption and improved phase noise performance while maintaining a comparable frequency tuning range. The subthreshold oscillator with double resonances has FOM of -185.2 dBc based on 1 mW DC power reference, which is an about 3 dB improved result compared with the basic oscillator.

In this paper, a novel small-diameter cylindrical post capacitor inserted into an evanescent-mode rectangular waveguide (EMRWG) is proposed for easier tuning. In order to feed the EMRWG, the proposed structure uses a single ridge rectangular waveguide with the same width and height as the waveguide at the input and output ends. The inserted post capacitor are made up a circular groove formed in the center of the lower part of the broad wall of the EMRWG, and a concentric cylindrical post inserted into the upper part. First, the equivalent circuit model for the proposed structure is presented. When the EMRWG and the single ridge waveguide are combined, the joint susceptance and the turns ratio of the ideal transformer are calculated by two simulations using HFSS (3d fullwave simulator, Ansoft Co.) respectively. The susceptance and resonance characteristics of the inserted post were analyzed by using the obtained parameters and the characteristics of the EMRWG. A 2-post filter with a center frequency of 4.5 GHz and a bandwidth of 170 MHz was designed using a WR-90 waveguide, and the simulation results by using the HFSS and CST, equivalent circuit model were in good agreement.

This paper presents scalable modeling of spiral inductors for RFIC design based on $0.13{\mu}m$ RF CMOS process. For scalable modeling, several inductor patterns are designed and fabricated with variations of width, number of turns and inner radius. Feeding structures are optimized for accurate de-embedding of pad effects. After measuring the S parameters of the fabricated patterns, double-$\pi$ equivalent circuit parameters are extracted for each device and their geometrical dependences are modeled as scalable functions. The inductor library provides two types of models including standard and symmetric inductors. Standard and symmetric inductors have the range of $0.12{\sim}10.7nH$ and $0.08{\sim}13.6nH$ respectively. The models are valid up to 30GHz or self-resonance frequency. Through this research, a scalable inductor library with an error rate below 10% is developed for $0.13{\mu}m$ RF CMOS process.

In this paper, various spiral zeroth-order resonators are proposed for wireless power transmission. Since a zerothorder resonance(ZOR) mode of meta-material transmission lines has the characteristic of an infinite wavelength, its frequency is independent of physical length. Also, to obtain high transmission efficiencies high-Q resonators and strong coupling coefficient between coupled resonators are required. Therefore, the resonators consist of spiral inductor and lumped capacitor to use the ZOR mode and they are optimized via parametric study and circuit analysis for a high-Q resonator design. The optimized resonators are simulated and compared with a conventional spiral resonator and one of them was fabricated and measured. The fabricated one has a dimension of $20cm{\times}20cm{\times}8cm$($0.009{\lambda}_0{\times}0.009_{\lambda}_0{\times}0.004{\lambda}_0$) and the transmission efficiency of 80 % is measured at 13.56 MHz at transmitted distance of 40 cm.

A new water energy harvester module, which is composed of piezoelectric bimorph cantilevers, harvesting circuit and a shaft with 16 impellers at a center axis, was fabricated for energy harvesting application. High energy density $Pb(Zr_{0.54}Ti_{0.46})O_3$ + 0.2 wt% $Cr_2O_3$ + 1.0 wt% $Nb_2O_5$ (PZT-CN) thick film obtained by tape casting method was used for the bimorph cantilever. The PZT-CN bimorph cantilever with a proof mass of 49 g exhibited extremely high output power of 22.5 mW (24 $mW//cm^3$) at resonance frequency of 11 Hz. In addition, the fabricated water energy harvester has a cylindrical structure with 48 bimorph cantilevers clamped at inner surface. A significantly high output power of 433 mW was obtained at a rotation speed of 120 rpm with a resistive load of $500{\Omega}$ for the water energy harvester.

In this study, We applied the magnetic field that has CW frequency and AM frequency to heating magnetic nano powder. For this experiment, We set up the devices flat-type magnetic field generator with CW frequency and AM frequency. We supplied the current to encircling coil by adjusting the power of generating of magnetic field device for AC voltage through Slidacs and using way of LC resonance circuit and SMPS(Switching Mode Power Supply). Above the encircling coil, We covered the circular flat insulator like glass. And we located the well plate containing the magnetic nano powder liquor above the circular flat insulator and exposed the magnetic field to this well plate. Using the flat-type magnetic field generator with CW and AM frequency and the magnetic field measurement sensor(Magnetic pick up coil or Hall sensor), We measured the strength of the magnetic field of circular flat insulator's surface in each position. The temperature of the magnetic nano powder in the well plate was quantitatively measured by the magnetic field strength through the Fluoroptic thermometer.

In this letter, a new approach is proposed for the design of a multi antenna for MIMO wireless devices. The proposed antenna covers various LTE(Long Term Evolution) service bands: band 17(704~746 MHz), band 13(746~787 MHz), band 5(824~894 MHz), and band 8(880~960 MHz). The proposed main antenna consists of a conventional monopole antenna with an inverted L-shaped slit for wideband operation. The proposed the LTE sub antenna is based on a switch loaded loop antenna structure, with a resonance frequency that can be controlled by capacitance of a logic circuit. The tuning technique for the LTE Rx antenna uses a RF MEMS(Micro-Electro mechanical system) to match the impedances to realize the bands of interest. Because the two proposed antennas are polarized orthogonally to each other, the ECC(Envelope Correlation Coefficient) characteristic between two antennas was measured to be very low (below 0.06) with an isolation characteristic below -20 dB between the two antennas in the operating overall LTE bands. The proposed antenna is particularly attractive for mobile devices that integrate LTE multiple systems.
Objectives Local gyrification reflects the early neural development of cortical connectivity, and is regarded as a potential neural endophenotype in psychiatric disorders. Several studies have suggested altered local gyrification in patients with bipolar I disorder (BD-I). The purpose of the present study was to investigate the alterations in the cortical gyrification of whole brain cortices in patients with BD-I. Methods Twenty-two patients with BD-I and age and sex-matched 22 healthy controls (HC) were included in this study. All participants underwent T1-weighted structural magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The local gyrification index (LGI) of 66 cortical regions were analyzed using the FreeSurfer (Athinoula A. Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging). One-way analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) was used to analyze the difference of LGI values between two groups adjusting for age and sex as covariates. Results The patients with BD-I showed significant hypogyria in the left pars opercularis (uncorrected-p = 0.049), the left rostral anterior cingulate gyrus (uncorrected-p = 0.012), the left caudal anterior cingulate gyrus (uncorrected-p = 0.033). However, these findings were not significant after applying the multiple comparison correction. Severity or duration of illness were not significantly correlated with LGI in the patients with BD-I. Conclusions Our results of lower LGI in the anterior cingulate cortex and the ventrolateral prefrontal cortex in the BD-I group implicate that altered cortical gyrification in neural circuits involved in emotion-processing may contribute to pathophysiology of BD-I.

Lightning warning system plays an important role in protecting human life and other facilities from lightning return strokes. This paper dealt with lightning positioning algorithms and circuits as a main function of lightning warning system, which monitor movements and activities of thunderclouds. Electric field component produced by lightning discharge is detected by the configuration of a whip antenna and a narrow-band resonance amplifier with center frequency of 300[kHz]. Measurement circuit of magnetic field waveform consists of a crossed-loop coil and an integral amplifier, and its frequency bandwidth is ranges from 5[kHz] to 1.2[MHz]. The polarity of lightning discharge is discriminated by electric field component. After-fixing the polarity, we can calculate the direction and distance of lightning discharge by the peak and the zero-cross time of magnetic field waveform.
