  • Due to the expensiveness of IKONOS Pro and Precision Products, it is attractive to use the low-cost IKONOS Geo Product with vendor-provided RPCs to produce highly accurate mapping products. The imaging geometry of IKONOS high-resolution imagery is described by RFs instead of rigorous sensor models. This paper presents four different models defined respectively in object space and image space to improve the accuracies of the RF-derived ground coordinates. The four models include the offset model, the scale & offset model, the affine model and the 2nd-order polynomial model. Different configurations of ground control points (GCPs) are carefully examined to evaluate the effect of the GCPs arrangement on the accuracy of ground coordinates. The experiment also evaluates the effect of different cartographic parameters such as the number location, and accuracy of GCPs on the accuracy of geopositioning.

  • Surface Solar Insolation is important for vegetation productivity, hydrology, crop growth, etc. However, ground base measurement stations installed pyranometer are often sparsely distributed, especially over oceans. In this study, Surface Solar Insolation is estimated using the visible and infrared spin scan radiometer(VISSR) data on board Geostationary Meteorological Satellite (GMS)-S covering from March 2001 to December 2001 in clear and cloudy conditions. To retrieve atmospheric factor, such as, optical depth, the amount of ozone, H20, and aerosol, SMAC (Simplified Method for Atmospheric Correction) code, is adopted. The hourly Surface Solar Insolation is estimated with a spatial resolution of $5km\;\times\;5km$ grid. The daily Surface Solar Insolation is derived from the available hourly Surface solar irradiance, independently for every pixel. The pyranometer by the Korea Meteorological Agency (KMA) is used to validate the estimated Surface Solar Insolation with a spatial resolution of $3\;\times\;3Pixels.$

  • A new direction of arrival estimation method using effects of model errors and sensitivity analysis is proposed. Since a desired signal is obtained after interference rejection through correction effects of model error, the effect of channel interference on the estimation is significantly reduced. Through simulation, we show that the proposed method offers significantly improved estimation resolution and accuracy relative to existing method.

  • Eye gaze positions evaluation on computer screen uses the human eye as an input device for computer systems is that it gives low resolution. We proposes a method to determine the eye gaze positions on the screen by using two-eye displacements as the information for mapping, and the perspective projection is applied to map the displacements to a position on a computer screen. The experiments were performed on 20 persons and a 17-inch monitor is used with the screen resolution of 1024x768 pixels. Gaze detection error was 3.18 cm (RMS error), with screen is divided into 5x8 and 7x10 positions on a 17-inch monitor. The results showed 100% and 96% correction, respectively.

  • We present a recent progress on calibration of stellar isochrones based on a set of high-resolution spectra for 170 G- and K-type dwarfs in the solar neighborhood. We compare observed magnitudes of these stars in a number of broad passbands [UB(B_T)V(V_T)RIJHK] with model magnitudes generated using ATLAS9 synthetic library at the previously derived set of spectroscopic parameters. We find systematic offsets in colors from these passbands, which are mainly revealed as a function of effective temperature of stars. In order to remove these systematic color mismatches, we derive correction functions and apply them to the model spectra.

  • For successful establishment of the roughing CAM system based on reverse engineering, it is necessary to develop the measurement method for generation of roughing path from a physical footwear model. In this study, the development of the roughing path measurement system is presented. It consists of 3 CCD cameras, image acquisition board and the roughing path measurement algorithm. The 3 CCD cameras capture images of the sidewall and the bottom of the footwear and, from two images, the outer and inner lines are extracted using image-processing algorithm. The roughing path measurement algorithm generates the roughing path which is reflected on the change of resolution according to the distance between the CCD camera and the measured point. The experimental results show that the developed system can measure the roughing path within the allowable roughing error range.

  • The spatial resolution of local weather and climate information for agronomic practices exceeds the current weather service scale. To supplement the insufficient spatial resolution of official forecasts and observations, gridded climate data are frequently generated. Most ecological models can be run using gridded climate data to produce ecosystem responses at landscape scales. In this lecture, state of the art techniques derived from geospatial climatology, which can generate gridded climate data by spatially interpolating point observations at synoptic weather stations, will be introduced. Removal of the urban effects embedded in the interpolated surfaces of daily minimum temperature, incorporation of local geographic potential for cold air accumulation into the minimum temperature interpolation scheme, and solar irradiance correction for daytime hourly temperature estimation are presented. Some experiences obtained from their application to real landscapes will be described.

  • GLI on boarded ADEOS-II satellite allows us to observe vegetation status in the two different resolutions simultaneously, because of thirty 1km resolution channels and six 250m resolution channels. There are four GLI land higher level products from these channels ; those are PGCP (Precise Geometric Correction Parameter), L2A_LC (TOA reflectance), ACLC (atmospheric corrected reflectance), and VGI (NDVI and EVI). This paper shows ADEOS-II GLI land data processing, and some of the latest results.

  • The unique properties of 2D materials significantly rely on the atomic structure and defects. Thus study at atomic scale is crucial for in-depth understanding of 2D materials and provides insights into its future applications. Using aberration-corrected transmission electron microscopes, atomic resolution imaging of individual atoms has been achieved even at a low kV. Ongoing optimization of aberration correction improves the spatial resolution better than angstrom and moreover boosts the contrast of light atoms. I present the recent progress of the study on the atomic structure and defects of monolayer and multilayer graphene, hBN and MoS2. Furthermore, the defect formation mechanisms of graphene, hexagonal boron nitride and MoS2 are discussed.
