Comparative Study on Antioxidant Activity and Multi-drug Resistance Reversing Activity in Korean Colored Soybean Cultivars

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze antioxidant activity and multidrug resistance reversing activity in several Korean colored soybean (Glycine max Merr.) cultivars. Antioxidant activity of methanol extracts from colored soybean cultivars was evaluated by TBARS (thiobarbituric acid reactive substances), DPPH (1, 1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) and ABTS (2,2'-azino-bis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid) methods. By means of TBARS, cultivar "Jeonnam #1" showed the highest activity until 7 days, and followed by "Black #1", "Jinyul" and "Black #3", showing lower activity than that of BHT (butylated hydroxytoluene). Methanol extracts of all cultivars proved that DPPH radical scavenging activity is dose-dependent. Methanol extract from cultivar "Jeonnam #1" showed highest DPPH radical scavenging activity, and followed by cultivars "Black #1". MDR (multi-drug resistance reversing) activity, however, showed the highest effect in "Black #3" and the lowest "Black #1" cultivar. These results suggest that seed colors of soybean may play an important role in antioxidant activity and MDR activity.

수도 품종 IR50의 백엽고병 저항성 유전 (Inheritance of Resistance in Rice Cultivar IR50 to Bacterial Leaf Blight)

  • 백엽고병에 저항성이면서 조생인 IR50품종과 이병성이면서 조생인 Zhu-Lian-Ai 품종간 조합 $F_2$에서 백엽고병 균주 JN7919에 대한 저항성의 유전양식 및 저항성 유전자와 출수특성간의 연관관계를 검토한 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 저항성과 이병성이 9:7로 분리되어 IR50품종의 백엽고병 저항성에는 2쌍의 우성유전자가 보족적으로 작용하는 것으로 표현되었다. 2. 조생과 만생이 7:9로 분리되어 IR50과 ZhuLian-Ai의 조생에는 서로 다른 한쌍씩의 유전자가 관여하고 있으며 이들은 상호보완적으로 작용하여 만생을 발현시키는 것으로 나타났다. 3. IR50의 백엽고병 저항성 유전자는 조생유전자와 연관되어 있으며 조환가는 $6.1\~25.6\%$로 추정되었다.

벼 도열병 저항성 신품종 '화원4호' (A New Rice Variety 'Hwaweon 4' with Durable Resistance to Rice Blast)

  • '화원4호'는 '일품벼'의 농업적 특성에 모로베레칸의 도열병 저항성 유전자가 이입된 근동질계통을 육성하기 위해 '일품벼'와 모로베레칸을 교배하고, 계속적인 여교배와 MAS를 병행 실시하여 유망한 계통 CR502-3-2 계통을 선발하였다. 생산력검정 시험 결과 조사된 형질 중 도열병저항성을 제외한 기타 형질에서는 '일품벼'와 유사한 근동질계통으로, 품종보 호원 출원 조건에 부합하여 '화원4호'로 명명하고 품종보호원을 출원하였다. 1. 출수기는 보통기재배에서 8월 18일로 '일품벼'와 동일한 중생종 품종이다. 2. 천립중은 23.3 g으로 '일품벼'와 유사한 수준이었다. 3. 흰잎마름병과 줄무늬잎마름병에는 이병성이다. 5. 완전미율은 '일품벼'에 비해 약간 낮았고, 아밀로스 함량은 '일품벼'보다 높았으나 통계적인 차이는 없었다. 6. '화원 4호'의 정조수량은 '05~'06년 2개년간 실시한 생산력검정 시험에서 평균 6.31 MT/ha로 '일품벼' 대비 99% 수준이었다.

Comparison of NERICA and Asian rice among traits relevant to drought resistance in the field and the effects of compost

  • Recently NERICA (New Rice for Africa) was developed by a crossing of African rice (Oryza glaberrima Steud.) and Asian rice (Oryza sativa L.) in West Africa, and is considered to be drought resistant, but drought resistance of NERICA and differences between Asian rice are not clarified enough. In this research, NERICA (four cultivars and two lines), Asian rice (three cultivars and sativa parent of NERICA) and African rice (glaberrima parent of NERICA) were cultivated in the field in Shizuoka University under drought and traits of each cultivar and line relevant to drought resistance, stomatal conductance by porometer, soil water content of individual depths by TDR method, SPAD values by SPAD meter and leaf thickness by micrometer, were measured and compared with dry matter production and yield. Effects of compost were also compared among sativa parent, one NERICA cultivar and two NERICA lines. Glaberrima parent showed highest top dry weight. One NERICA line, one drought resistant Asian rice cultivar and sativa parent, showed higher top dry weight and yield (ear weight) than other Asian rice cultivars and NERICA cultivars and line tested. Compost tended to increase top dry weight and yield in one of NERICA line and sativa parent. But in one NERICA cultivar and line, top dry weight and yield were not increased. In one of Asian rice, one of NERICA line and sativa parent that showed high top dry weight and yield, stomatal conductance was high. On the contrary the glaberrima parent and in other NERICA cultivars and line it was low. In sativa parent compost increased stomatal conductance but in NERICA cultivar and lines it was not. Among cultivars and lines that showed high top dry weight and yield sativa parent and one of NERICA line SPAD value and leaf thickness were high but in one of Asian rice and glaberrima parent they were low. Cultivar and line differences in yield and top dry weight among Asian rice and NERICA were significantly correlated with those in stomatal conductance ($r=0.778^{**}$ and $r=0.654^*$, respectively) and those in leaf thickness ($r=0.600^*$ and $r=0.640^*$, respectively). In Asian rice cultivars average soil water content was significantly correlated with yield ($r=0.886^*$) but in NERICA cultivars and lines it was not significant correlated (r= -0.256). Cultivar and line differences in leaf thickness were significantly correlated with SPAD value ($r=0.773^{**}$). In Asian rice cultivars it was significantly correlated ($r=0.962^{**}$), but in NERICA cultivars and lines it was not significantly correlated (r=0.559). Asian rice cultivars tended to consume soil water to increase yield but in NERICA cultivars and lines the tendency was not clear. Correlation between SPAD value and leaf thickness was different between Asian rice and NERICA cultivars and lines, and in Asian rice cultivars it was significantly correlated but in NERICA cultivars and lines it was not significant. Importance of maintaining high stomatal conductance by high leaf thickness was clarified.

잎도열병에 대해 성체식물저항성을 지닌 벼의 감염엽에서 아미노산과 페놀화합물의 함량 (Amino Acid and Phenolic Contents in lilfected Leaves of Rice in Relation to Adult - Plant Resistance to Leaf Blast)

  • 도열병에 대해 감수성을 보이는 낙동과 성체식물저항성을 보이는 도봉의 건전엽과 도열병 감염엽내의 에탄올가용성 아미노산과 페놀화합물을 양적으로 분석하였다. 접종 3일후에는 가용성 아미노산과 페놀화합물의 수준은 건전엽과 비슷하였다. 도열병 병반이 접종 5일 후에 감염엽에 나타났을 때 가용성 아미노산과 페놀화합물은 5엽기와 3엽기에서 증가하기 시작하였고, 접종 7일 후에서는 이들 화합물의 수준은 5엽기와 8엽기에서 건전엽보다 약 $1.5\~3$배 더 많았다. 도열병 감염동안 비록 도봉이 도열병에 대해 낙동보다 덜 감염되었지만 5엽기와 8엽기의 건전엽과 감염엽에서 성체식물저항성 품종 도봉의 가용성 아미노산 및 페놀화합물 함량은 감수성 품종 낙농의 함량보다 높았다. 벼품종 도봉이 도열병에 감염동안 아미노산과 페놀화합물 함량이 현저하게 증가하여 성체식물저항성이 발현하는데 중요한 역할을 할지 모른다.

  • 한성뽕을 수원과 춘천 2개 지역에서 수행한 지역적응시험 결과, 수량성이 높고 엽질 등이 우수하여 1998년 장려품종으로 지정되었으며 그 주요 특성은 다음과 같다. 1. 백상형(Morus alba L.)에 속하는 품종으로 암나무이며, 수형은 직립성이고 용천뽕에 비하여 가지수와 평균가지 길이는 적고 짧으며 마디길이는 비슷하다. 2. 발아기는 중뽕이며, 잎의 크기는 중형으로 잎두께는 약간 두꺼우며 타원형이다. 3. 뽕 수량은 용천뽕보다 10% 많으며, 사료가치는 용천뽕보다 비교적 우량하다. 4. 뽕나무 오갈병 저항성은 보통이고 눈마름병, 줄기마름 병 및 축엽세균병은 개량뽕보다 약간 강하다. 5. 춘추잠기 겸용 큰누에용 뽕으로 전국에 재배할 수 있다.

백·분홍색 절화장미 '수려' 육성 (A New Rose Cultivar 'Suryeo' with White-pink Flower Color)

  • 충북농업기술원에서 육성한 장미 '수려'는 절화용 장미로 황적색 스탠다드 계통의 장미 품종인 'Konfetti' 품종을 모친으로, 분홍색의 화색을 가진 스탠다드 계통의 'Laser' 품종을 화분친으로 하여 2003년에 인공 교배한 후 계통선발 및 3차 특성 검정을 거쳐 2007년에 최종 선발하여 '수려(Suryeo)'로 명명하였으며 2009년에 품종보호권이 등록되었다. 수려는 백색과 분홍색(Red-purple Group N57B)이 혼합된 스탠다드형 장미로 연간 절화수량은 149(본/$m^2$/년)이고 꽃잎수는 64매, 개화소요일수는 48일, 절화수명은 12일 정도이다. 절화장은 78cm이며 꽃무게는 50g이었다. 특히 수세가 강건하며 흰가루병에 강한 특성이 있다.

  • The inheritance of resistance to bacterial blight in a Tongil-type rice cultivar 'Changseongbyeo' was studied using a Korean isolate HB9101. which belongs to race $K_1$. The resistance of Changseongbyeo to the HB9101 was controlled by a single dominant gene. This gene was allelic with Xa-1 gene and linked to Ig gene on chromosome 4 with the recombination value of 7.5%.

  • The soybean necrotic disease has been shown to be caused by a virulent strain or strains of soybean mosaic virus (SMV) in soybean cultivar Kwnaggyo. However, the disease was found in soybean cultivar Hwanggeum which was released as a leading and mosaic resistant soybean cultivar in Korea. The strain SMV-G5H appeared to an isolate showing similar characteristics with the strain SMV-G7, although there were some variations in reactions of soybean differentials used.

다수성이고 발근력이 강한 뽕품종 ′밀성뽕′육성 (Breeding of High Yielding and Easily Rootable Mulberry Cultivar ′Milsungppong′(Morus bombycis KOIDZ))

  • New Mulberry Cultivar, Milsungppong, was selected from F1 seedlings obtained by crossing the female, 4X Keomseolppong, and the male, Kaeryangppong. Local adaptability test has been carried out at five places(Suwon, Chunchun, Cheongju, Kongju and Sangju) for four years since 1992. Leaf quality was tested by silkworm rearing for two silkworm rearing seasons(spring and autumn) at Suwon in 1995. From these tests, Milsungppong was found to be superior to control cultivar, cultivar, Kaeryangppong, in productivity, rootability and shoot cold injury. The new cultivar, Milsungppong, has following agronomic characteristics as compared with Kaeryangppong, the most prevailing cultivar, Milsungppong, has following agronomic characteristics as compared with Kaeryangppong, the most prevailing cultivar in Korea It is triploid cultivar belonging to Morus bombycis KOIDZ with the leaf shape of five lobes, sprouting in spring nearly the same to the Kaeryangppong (Morus alba L.), high leaf yielding of 25% compared to Kaeryangppong (Morus alba L.) and the medium degree of cold resistance. It is adaptable to every where in Korea except the area cold injury broken out habitually. Milsungppong is recommended to rear silkworms not only in spring but also in autumn besides for young silkworms.
