The purpose of this study was to compare the apical microleakage in root canal filled with Resilon by methacrylate-based root canal sealer or 2 different self-adhesive resin cements. Seventy single-rooted extracted human teeth were sectioned at the CEJ perpendicular to the long axis of the roots with diamond disk. Canal preparation was performed with crown-down technique using Profile NiTi rotary instruments and GG drill. Each canal was prepared to ISO size 40, .04 taper and 1 mm short from the apex. The prepared roots were randomly divided into 4 experimental groups of 15 roots each and 5 roots each for positive and negative control group. The root canals were filled by lateral condensation as follows. Group 1: Guttapercha with AH-26, Group 2: Resilon with RealSeal primer & sealer, Group 3: Resilon with Rely-X Unicem, Group 4: Resilon with BisCem. After stored in $37{\circ}C$, 100% humidity chamber for 7 days, the roots were coated with 2 layers of nail varnish except apical 3 mm. The roots were then immersed in 1% methylene blue dye for 7 days. Apical microleakage was measured by a maximum length of linear dye penetration after roots were separated longitudinally. One way ANOVA and Scheffe's post-hoc test were performed for statistical analysis. Group 1 showed the least apical leakage and there was no statistical significance between Group 2, 3, 4. According to the results, the self adhesive resin cement is possible to use as sealer instead of primer & sealant when root canal filled by Resilon.

The aims of this study were to determine if flowable composites can be used as pit and fissure sealants without bonding agents. Three flowable composites(Filtek Flow, Tetric Flow, Charmfil Flow) and a filled sealant (Ultraseal XT plus) were used. The pattern of resin tag formation in the four sealant materials were compared using SEM. For the microleakage assessment, 54 extracted human premolar teeth were randomly divided into 3 groups containing 18 premolars each. In each group, a conventional filled sealant and one of the three flowable composites were applied to occlusal fissures. The teeth were thermocycled(1200 cycles between $5^{\circ}{\pm}2^{\circ}C\;and\;55^{\circ}{\pm}2^{\circ}C$ with a dwell time of 30 seconds) and immersed in a 1% methylene blue solution for 48 hours. Each tooth was sectioned and examined to determine the extent of dye penetration. Three flowable composites and a filed sealant showed a similar resin tag formation pattern. The three flowable composites showed significantly more microleakage in each group than the filled sealant. The level of microleakage was similar in the three flowable composites. Flowable composites are not recommended as pit and fissure sealants because more microleakage can occur even when occlural fissures are mechanically widened.

The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of catalase used following bleaching for the elimination of hydrogen peroxide residues from human teeth on the microleakage at the tooth-resin composite interface. In this study, class V cavities were prepared on the buccal or lingual surfaces of seventy extracted human molar teeth, and crown of sixty teeth were immersed in 30% hydrogen peroxide at $37^{\circ}C$ for 5 days except for negative control group. Then the teeth were rinsed with water and distributed randomly into seven groups of 10 each and were conditioned as following Negative control group: No bleaching Positive control group : bleaching and no application of catalase (C-40) Experimental group 1 : one cycle of catalase application for 3 min. and water rinse for 2 min. after bleaching Experimental group 2 : two cycles of catalase application for 3 min. and water rinse for 2 min. after bleaching Experimental group 3 : three cycles of catalase application for 3 min. and water rinse for 2 min. after bleaching Experimental group 4 : four cycles of catalase application for 3 min. and water rinse for 2 min. after bleaching Experimental group 5 : five cycles of catalase application for 3 min. and water rinse for 2 min. after bleaching The cavities of each groups were restored with composite resin. The teeth were thermocycled, stained with 2% methylene blue, and sectioned buccolingually. Degree of dye penetration at tooth-restoration interfaces were examined by stereomicroscope(${\times}30$) at occlusal and gingival margin The results were as follows : 1. On the occlusal margin, there was no significant difference in the microleakage between the negative coltrol group and experimental groups (p>0.05). But on the gingival margin, experimental groups showed higher microleakage than the negative coltrol group (p<0.05). 2. On the occlusal margin, positive coltrol group showed higher microleakage than experimental groups (p<0.05) and among the experimental groups, group 1 showed higher microleakage than group 3, 4, 5 (p<0.05). 3. On the gingival margin, there was no significant difference between the positive coltrol group and experimental groups, and between experimental groups (p>0.05). The result indicated that catalase used in bleached cavity for the elimination of hydrogen peroxide residues from human teeth maybe reduced microleakage at the tooth-resin composite interface.
Hydrogen peroxide at high concentration during walking bleaching may cause damage to the tooth structure and to the surrounding periodontal tissues and may develop external root resorption. Clinically, It is so important to find a method of prevention or minimization of these complications. The efficacy of various chamber-irrigating agents to eliminate residual hydrogen peroxide after walking bleaching was examined and compared with water rinse in this study. Extracted human 46 premolars without any cementoenamel junction defects were treated endodontically and based with IRM to 1 mm below CEJ and totally bleached 3 times for each tooth with 30% hydrogen peroxide and sodium perborate. Upon completion of the 3rd walking bleaching procedure, the cervical portion and pulp chamber of each group of teeth were irrigated with catalase, 70% ethylalcohol, acetone, and distilled water. And then, a radicular hydrogen peroxide penetration was measured with spectrophotometer immediately after each bleaching and following treatment with each chamber-irrigating agents, and the significance of their eliminating efficacy of residual hydrogen peroxide was analyzed by Kruskal-Wallis test. The results were obtained as follows. 1. Cervical root penetration of hydrogen peroxide was increased as the bleaching procedure was repeated(P<.01). 2. The most effective irrigant that removed residual hydrogen peroxide was the catalase, and the least effective one was water rinsing (P<.01).; there was no significant difference between the acetone and ethanol group. 3. The Irrigation with antioxidant enzyme or water-displacement solutions can eliminate residual oxygen radicals from the pulp chamber effectively after walking bleaching. So, these agents can reduce adverse effects such as cervical external resorption and periapical inflammation and prevent residual $O_2$ from impeding composite resin polymerization, thus increase the bonding strength of composite resin. This, in turn reduces microleakage and discoloration of the esthetic restoration, extending its service-life.
PURPOSES : The objective of this study is to evaluate the SDAR (solvent deasphaltene residue), which is obtained from the solvent deasphalting (SDA) process, as a pavement material. METHODS : The physical properties of the SDAR were evaluated based on its chemical composition, and asphalt mixtures with the SDAR were fabricated and used for the evaluation of mechanical properties. Firstly, the chemical composition of SARA (saturate, aromatic, resin and asphaltene) was analyzed using the TLC-FID (thin-layer chromatography-flame ionization detector). Moreover, the basic material properties of the asphalt binder with the SDAR were evaluated by the penetration test, softening point test, ductility test, and PG (performance grade) grade test. The rheological properties of the asphalt binder with the SDAR were evaluated by the dynamic shear modulus ($G^*$) obtained using the time-temperature superposition (TTS) principle. Secondly, the mechanical properties of the asphalt mixtures with the SDAR were evaluated. The compactibility was evaluated using the gyratory compacter. Moreover, the tensile strength ratio (TSR) was used for evaluating the moisture susceptibility of the asphalt mixtures (i.e., susceptibility to pothole damage). The dynamic modulus $E^*$, which is a fundamental property of the asphalt mixture, obtained at different temperatures and loading cycles, was used to evaluate the mechanical properties of the asphalt mixtures. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION : The SDAR shows stiffer and more brittle behavior than the conventional asphalt binder. As the application of the SDAR directly in the field may cause early failures, such as cracks on pavements, it should be applied with modifiers that can favorably modify the brittleness property of the SDAR. Therefore, if appropriate additives are applied on the SDAR, it can be used as a pavement material because of its low cost and strong resistance to rutting.
In order to clarify the effect of consolidant, the artificial porous material with low intensity was manufactured using granite powder and Portland cement. We have prepared four kinds of alkoxysilane system consolidants, a acrylic resin and a epoxy resin and investigated about characteristics before and after consolidation. As a result of the research, Silres BS OH 100 was effective for density and surface hardness. SS-101 with hydrophobicity and Site SX-RO with hydrophilicity had the good durability over salts weathering. On the other hand, Syton HT-50 and Paraloid B72 were easily destructed by salt weathering because they were concentrated on surface area by the low penetration depth. Araldite 2020 was the most effective consolidant for improvement of physical properties.
PURPOSES : The objective of this study is to evaluate the applicability of the pitch, which is produced during SDA petroleum upgrading process, as a pavement paving material. In order for the purpose, the physical and chemical properties of the pitch are analyzed, and then the various plasticizers are applied in the pitch. METHODS : Two types of pitch are selected from oil refinery companies, which are owned the SDA petroleum upgrading process. Also, two types of asphalt binders, PG 64-22 and PG 58-22, are employed to compare with the pitch because these two types of asphalt binders are currently used as paving materials. For the chemical property of the pitch, the composition of SARA (Saturate, Aromatic, Resin, Asphaltene), the elementary composition, and the functional group are analyzed. For the physical property of the pitch, the basic material property tests, such as penetration test, softening point test, flash point test, ductility test, and rotational viscometer test, are performed. Also, the DSR (Dynamic Shear Rheometer) test and the BBR (Bending Beam Rheometer) test are conducted using asphalt binder specimens obtained by both short term aging (Rolling Thin Film Oven, RTFO) and long term aging (Pressure Aging Vessel, PAV) processes. The rheological property of each pitch type is evaluated as a function of temperatures and loading cycles. PG 64-22 asphalt binder is used as a control material. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS : The Pitch may not be suitable for the pavement paving material without modifications, but the pitch can be used as alternatives of modified addictive or asphalt. If low molecular component, such as saturate and aromatic components, are added in the pitch based on the development of various plasticizers, it has a strong possibility for the pitch to be used as a alternative. However, in order to verify the performance property of the pitch, further research is needed.

Cracked teeth are a common problem with incomplete fracture that typically shows pain on biting and temperature stimuli. The most common cause of crack is known to be the masticatory accident. Predisposing factors were aging, old restoration, and iatrogenic stress concentration, etc. Accurate diagnosis is needed for detecting the extent of crack and pulp vitality. There are many diagnostic tools like bite test, direct observation with transillumination, dye penetration, and radiographs. Immediate treatment for pain relief and occlusal adjustment would be needed. Composite resin and bonded amalgam showed favorable prognosis. Moreover, cusp protection is reliable permanent treatment for cracked teeth. The purpose of this article is to review the literature about the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment for cracked teeth.
Electronic products are a major part of evolving industry and human life style; however most of them are known to emit electromagnetic waves that have severe health hazards. Therefore, different materials and fabrication techniques are understudy to control or limit transfer of such waves to human body. In this study, nanocomposite powder is dispersed into epoxy resin and shielding effects such as absorption, reflection, penetration and multiple reflections are investigated. In addition, nano size powder (Ni, $Fe_2O_3$, Fe-85Ni, C-Ni) is fabricated by pulsed wire evaporation method and dispersed manually into epoxy. Characterization techniques such as X-ray diffraction, Scanning electron microscopy and Transmission electron microscopy are used to investigate the phase analysis, size and shape as well as dispersion trend of a nano powder on epoxy matrix. Shielding effect is measured by standard test method to investigate the electromagnetic shielding effectiveness of planar materials, ASTM D4935. At lower frequency, sample consisting nano-powder of Fe-85%Wt Ni shows better electromagnetic shielding effect compared to only epoxy, only Ni, $Fe_2O_3$ and C-Ni samples.
PURPOSE. This study was undertaken to investigate whether use of an adhesive penetration enhancer, dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), improves bond stability of fiber posts to root dentin using two two-step etch-and-rinse resin cements. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Forty human maxillary central incisor roots were randomly divided into 4 groups after endodontic treatment and post space preparation, based on the fiber post/cement used with and without DMSO pretreatment. Acid-etched root dentin was treated with 5% DMSO aqueous solution for 60 seconds or with distilled water (control) prior to the application of Excite DSC/Variolink II or One-Step Plus/Duolink for post cementation. After micro-slicing the bonded root dentin, push-out bond strength (P-OBS) test was performed immediately or after 1-year of water storage in each group. Data were analyzed using three-way ANOVA and Student's t-test (${\alpha}$=.05). RESULTS. A significant effect of time, DMSO treatment, and treatment${\times}$time interaction were observed (P<.001). DMSO did not affect immediate bonding of the two cements. Aging significantly reduced P-OBS in control groups (P<.001), while in DMSO-treated groups, no difference in P-OBS was observed after aging (P>.05). CONCLUSION. DMSO-wet bonding might be a beneficial method in preserving the stability of resin-dentin bond strength over time when fiber post is cemented with the tested etch-and-rinse adhesive cements.
