  • In the present study, the elasto-plastic analysis of prismatic plate structures subjected to pure bending is carried out using the finite strip method. The end cross-sections of the structure are assumed to remain plane during deformation, and the compatibility along corner lines is ensured by choosing proper displacement functions. The effects of both the initial geometrical imperfections and residual stresses due to fabrication are included in the combined geometrically and materially nonlinear simulation. The von-Mises yield criterion and the Prandtl-Reuss flow theory of plasticity are applied in modelling the elasto-plastic behavior of material. Newton-Raphson iterations are carried out as the rotation of the end cross sections of the structure is increased step by step. The parameter representing the overall axial strain of structure is adjusted constantly during the iteration process in order to eliminate the resulting overall axial force on any cross-section of the structure in correspondence with the assumption of zero axial force in pure bending. Several numerical examples are presented to validate the present method and to investigate the effects of some material and geometrical parameters.

  • This paper details a new ultra-precise turning method for increasing surface quality, "Multi Point B Axis Control Method." Machined surface error is minimized by the compensation machining process, but the process leaves residual chip marks and surface roughness. This phenomenon is unavoidable in the diamond turning process using existing machining methods. However, Multi Point B axis control uses a small angle (< $1^{\circ}$) for the unused diamond edge for generation of ultra-fine surfaces; no machining chipping occurs. It is achieved by compensated surface profiling via alignment of the tool radial center on the center of the B axis rotation table. Experimental results show that a diamond turned surface using the Multi Point B axis control method achieved P-V $0.1{\mu}m$ and Ra 1.1nm and these ultra-fine surface qualities are reproducible.

  • The alignment characteristics of liquid crystal (LC) molecules on a solution-derived lanthanum zinc oxide (LZO) film under ion-beam irradiation were demonstrated. Using the solution process, an LZO film was fabricated on the glass substrate and cured at $100^{\circ}C$. Afterwards, ion-beam irradiation was performed following the LC alignment method. Using this film, an LC cell was fabricated and the characteristics of the LC alignment were verified. Cross polarizing microscopy and the crystal rotation method were used to investigate the alignment state of the LC molecules on the LZO films. Furthermore, field emission scanning electron microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy were used to explore the effect of the ion-beam irradiation on the LZO film. Through these, it was confirmed that the ion-beam irradiation induced surface modification, which demonstrated anisotropic physical and chemical surface characteristics. Due to this, uniform LC alignment was achieved. Finally, the residual DC and anchoring energy of the LC cell based on the LZO films were measured using a capacitance-voltage curve.

  • In a previous study, a technique for measuring wind speed and direction by using a roll-rotating three-axis ultrasonic anemometer was proposed and verified by wind tunnel tests. In the tests, instead of a roll sensor, roll angle was trimmed to make no up flow in the transformed wind speeds. Verification was done in point of the residual error of the rotation effect treatment. In this study, roll angle was measured from the roll motor encoder and the transformed wind speed and direction on the test section axis were compared with the ones provided to the test section. As a result, up to yaw $20^{\circ}$ at a wind speed of 12 m/sec or over, the RMS error of wind speed was within the double of the ultrasonic anemometer error. But at yaw $30^{\circ}$, it was over the double of the ultrasonic anemometer error. Regardless of wind speed, at yaw $20^{\circ}$ and $30^{\circ}$, the direction error was within the double of the ultrasonic anemometer error. But at yaw $10^{\circ}$ or less, it was within the error of the ultrasonic anemometer itself. This is a very favorable characteristic to be used for wind turbine yaw control.

  • One of the most important parameters affecting nonlinearsoil-structure interaction, especially rocking foundation, is the vertical factor of safety (F.Sv). In this research, the effect of F.Sv on the behavior of rocking foundations was experimentally investigated. A set of slow, cyclic, horizontal loading tests was conducted on elastic SDOF structures with different shallow foundations. Vertical bearing capacity tests also were conducted to determine the F.Sv more precisely. Furthermore, 10% silt was mixed with the dry sand at a 5% moisture content to reach the minimum apparent cohesion. The results of the vertical bearing capacity tests showed that the bearing capacity coefficients (Nc and Nγ) were influenced by the scaling effect. The results of horizontal cyclic loading tests showed that the trend of increase in capacity was substantially related to the source of nonlinearity and it varied by changing F.Sv. Stiffness degradation was found to occur in the final cycles of loading. The results indicated that the moment capacity and damping ratio of the system in models with lower F.Sv values depended on soil specifications such cohesiveness or non-cohesiveness and were not just a function of F.Sv.

  • In this work practical considerations of a pulsed arterial spin labeling MRI are presented to reliable multi-slice perfusion measurements In the human brain. Three parameters were considered in this study. First, In order to improve slice profile and Inversion efficiency of a labeling pulse a high power Inversion pulse of adiabatic hyperbolic secant was designed. A $900^{\circ}$ rotation of the flip angle was provided to make a good slice profile and excellent Inversion efficiency. Second, to minimize contributions of a residual magnetization be4ween Interleaved scans of control and labeling we tested three different conditions which were applied 1) only saturation pulses, 2) only spotter gradients, and 3) combinations of saturation pulses and spotter gradients Applications of bo4h saturation pulses and spoiler gradients minimized the residual magnetization. Finally, to find a minimum gap between a tagged plane and an imaging plane we tested signal changes of the subtracted image between control and labeled Images with varying the gap. The optimum gap was about 20mm. In conclusion, In order to obtain high quality of perfusion Images In human brain It Is Important to use optimum parameters. Before routinely using In clinical studios, we recommend to make optimizations of sequence parameters.

  • An attempt was made to stimulate future research by providing exemplary information, which would integrate published knowledge to solve specific pest problem caused by resistance. This review was directed to find a way for delaying resistance development with consideration of chemical(s) nature, of mixture, rotation, or mosaics, and of insecticide(s) compatible with the biological agents in integrated pest management (IPM). The application frequency, related to the resistance development, was influenced by insecticide activity from potentiation, residual period, and the vulnerability to resistance development of chemical, with secondary pest. Chemical affected feeding, locomotion, flight, mating, and predator avoidance. Insecticides with negative cross-resistance by the difference of target sites and mode of action would be adapted to mixture, rotation and mosaic. Mixtures for delaying resistance depend on each component killing very high percentage of the insects, considering allele dominance, cross-resistance, and immigration and fitness disadvantage. Potential disadvantages associated with mixtures include disruption of biological control, resistance in secondary pests, selecting very resistant population, and extending cross-resistance range. The rotation would use insecticides in high and low doses, or with different metabolic mechanisms. Mosaic apply insecticides to the different sectors of a grid for highly mobile insects, spray unrelated insecticides to sedentary aphids in different areas, or mix plots of insecticide-treated and untreated rows. On the evolution of pest resistance, selectivity and resistance of parasitoids and predator decreased the number of generations in which pesticide treatment is required and they could be complementary to refuges from pesticides To enhance the viability of parasitoids, the terms on the insecticides selectivity and factors affecting to the selectivity in field were examined. For establishment of resistant parasitoid, migration, survivorship, refuge, alternative pesticides were considered. To use parasitoids under the pressure of pesticides, resistant or tolerant parasitoids were tested, collected, and/or selected. A parasitoid parasitized more successfully in the susceptible host than the resistant. Factors affecting to selective toxicity of predator are mixing mineral oil, application method, insecticide contaminated prey, trait of individual insecticide, sub-lethal doses, and the developmental stage of predators. To improve the predator/prey ratio in field, application time, method, and formulation of pesticide, reducing dose rate, using mulches and weeds, multicropping and managing of surroundings are suggested. Plant resistance, predator activity, selective insect growth regulator, and alternative prey positively contributed to the increase of the ratio. Using selective insecticides or insecticide resistant predator controlled its phytophagous prey mites, kept them below an economic level, increased yield, and reduced the spray number and fruits damaged.

  • The rotate penetration pile is a type of displacement pile: the surrounding soil is displaced when installing the pile, and the pile can exert a large bearing power and pullout force. In addition, it uses displaced soil method that does not generate slime, and its applications are increasing in foreign countries owing to the environmentally friendly characteristics such as small noise and vibration. However, mostly driven piles-which are directly driven to the ground, and bored pile- pre-fabricated piles are buried to prebored underground, are used; however, rotate penetration piles still have limited use. Most of the laboratory tests have been carried out until now to identify the support behavior after installation of piles and ground construction, the evaluating the support behavior is lacking due to the rotation intrusive process of the rotate penetration piles. Therefore, this study used indoor experiments simulating rotation intrusive process in weathered soil, to evaluate the bearing power behavior for the weathered soil, varying the diameter of the helical bearing plates, helical bearing plate spacing, number of the helical bearing plates, and helical bearing plate specifications. As the outcome of this study, the helical pile bearing power evaluation results, change in bearing power in accordance with main specifications, and review on the comparative analysis with the existing theories were provided.

  • This paper related with the performance of SE-MMA (Signed-Error MMA) that is the reduction of computational operation number in algorithm than MMA blind eualization algorithm which are possible to elimination of intersymbol interferance in the band limited and time dispersive nonlinear communication channel. In MMA algorithm which are possible to reduction of amplitude and phase rotation by intersymbol interference that is occurred in channel without using the training sequence, it uses the error signal that is the difference of the equalizer output and constant modulus, the statisticlly characteristic of transmitted signal. But in SE-MMA, it uses the polarity of the error signal, then it is possible to reduce the updating the tap coefficient and to simplify the H/W implementation. The computer simulation were performed in order to compare the performance of SE-MMA and conventional MMA algorithm. For this, the recovered signal constellation that is the output of the equalizer, the convergence performance by MSE, MD (maximum distortion) and residual isi characteristic learning curve, SER were used. As a result of simulation, the SE-MMA has more fast convergence speed than the MMA. But in the other index after reaching the seady state, it gives more worst performance values in the used index.

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the stress distributions of NiTi rotary instruments based on their cross-sectional geometries of triangular shape-based cross-sectional design, S-shaped cross-sectional design and modified rectangular shape-based one using 3D FE models. NiTi rotary files of S-shaped and modified rectangular design of cross-section such as Mtwo or NRT showed larger stress change while file rotation during simulated shaping. The stress of files with rectangular cross-section design such as Mtwo, NRT was distributed as an intermittent pattern along the long axis of file. On the other hand, the stress of files with triangular cross-section design was distributed continuously. When the residual stresses which could increase the risk of file fatigue fracture were analyzed after their withdrawal. the NRT and Mtwo model also presented higher residual stresses. From this result, it can be inferred that S-shaped and modified rectangular shape-based files were more susceptible to file fracture than the files having triangular shape-based one.
