  • In this paper, we propose a dual-mode blind equalization algorithm that two of the blind equalization algorithm using the size of the decision-directed error signal is automatically switched. The proposed algorithm has a faster convergence speed due to operation of the MSAGF-SMMA with large fixed step-size mainly in the initial equalization. After the equalization has been made to some extent, the proposed algorithm has a smaller residual error in the steady- state by operation of the MSAGF-SMMA with a variable step-size mainly. The variable step-size is determined by multiplying the size of the decision-directed error signal of a fixed step-size. In this paper, we analyze the performance of the proposed algorithm. The computer simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm has a significantly improved performance in terms of a residual inter-symbol interference and residual error in the steady-state compared with the MMA, SMMA, and MSAGF-SMMA.

  • This paper compare the performance of CM-MMA (Constellation Matching-MMA) and RMMA (Region-based MMA) blind equalization algorithm for improve the QoS by minimizing the intersymbol interference that is occurred in nonlinear communication channel when transmitting the QAM signal. In the tap coefficient update for adaptive, CM-MMA use the error of nonconstant modulus signal adding the current MMA cost fuction and constellation matching error terms of sinusoidal power function, and the RMMA use the error by transfoms the nonconstant modulus signal of equalizer output constellation to 4-QAM constant modulus signal. They has different equalization performance by these error signal, it were compared in this paper by simulation, and performance index such as output signal constellation of equalizer, residual isi, maximum distortion, SER curves are applied for this. As a result of computer simulation, the RMMA has more better performance in the every performance index, convergence speed, residual value, noise robustness compared to CM-MMA.

  • This paper proposes a method to improve the mass spectral detection performance of the residual gas analyzer. By improving the mode estimation method for setting the threshold value and improving the additive noise elimination method, it is possible to detect mass spectrums having low peak values of the threshold level difficult to distinguish from noise. Ion signal blocks for each mass index with noise removed by the improved method are effective for eliminating invalid ion signals based on the linear and quadratic fittings. The mass spectrum can be obtained from the quadratic fitted curves for the reconstructed ion signal block using only the valid ion signals. In addition, the resolution of the mass spectrum can be improved by correcting the error caused by the shift of the spectral peak position. To verify the performance of the proposed method, computer simulations were performed using real ion signals obtained from the residual gas analysis system under development. The simulation results show that the proposed method is valid.

  • In this paper, a noble second stage hetero-estimator is used for positioning error detection in mobile robot. Previous methods are either expensive in the case of positioning error correction or not able to detect positioning error. To overcome the latter shortage, the positioning error detection is performed using second stage hetero-estimator in motor model of mobile robot without any additional costs. A Kalman filter in the estimator gets the residual of motor current and an adaptive self-tunning filter checks the whiteness of the residual. Some simulation results show the possibility of the proposed method.

  • The influence of material composition such as aggregate types, addition of supplementary cementitious materials as well as exposed temperature levels have significant impacts on concrete residual mechanical strength properties when exposed to elevated temperature. This study is based on data obtained from literature for fly ash blended concrete produced with natural and recycled concrete aggregates to efficiently develop prediction models for estimating its residual compressive strength after exposure to high temperatures. To achieve this, an extensive database that contains different mix proportions of fly ash blended concrete was gathered from published articles. The specific design variables considered were percentage replacement level of Recycled Concrete Aggregate (RCA) in the mix, fly ash content (FA), Water to Binder Ratio (W/B), and exposed Temperature level. Thereafter, a simplified mathematical equation for the prediction of concrete's residual compressive strength using Gene Expression Programming (GEP) was developed. The relative importance of each variable on the model outputs was also determined through global sensitivity analysis. The GEP model performance was validated using different statistical fitness formulas including R2, MSE, RMSE, RAE, and MAE in which high R2 values above 0.9 are obtained in both the training and validation phase. The low measured errors (e.g., mean square error and mean absolute error are in the range of 0.0160 - 0.0327 and 0.0912 - 0.1281 MPa, respectively) in the developed model also indicate high efficiency and accuracy of the model in predicting the residual compressive strength of fly ash blended concrete exposed to elevated temperatures.

  • This paper presents an analysis of asynchronous multicarrier-code division multiple access (MC-CDMA) uplink systems over frequency-selective multipath fading channels when the frequency offsets (FOs) of all users are random variables and the frequency offset for the desired user is compensated. The effect of a residual frequency offset(RFO) on the average bit error rate (BER) is evaluated by the semi-analytical method, then the approximated BER performance is obtained as a closed-form expression. Moreover, the signal to noise ratio (SNR) loss caused by RFO is evaluated. Derived results show that the performance degradation due to RFO is negligible if the estimation error of RFO for the desired user is less than the normalized value of 0.1.

  • The Hole Drilling Method(HDM) is widely used to measure residual stresses in the welded structures. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the accuracy fo measuring residual stresses when drilling the hole by Air-abrasive Jet machine(AJM). Simulated residual stresses wre introduced by applying known stresses to steel bars. These known streses were then compared with measured stresses relaxed from hole drilling. the obtained results are summarized as follows; 1) It was possible to obtain well defined holes with the nozzle designed for this study. 2) If the hole shape is not cylindrical, critical may occur. 3) In the uniaxial strain field, the measurement error of the maximum principal stress was within .+-.10 percent. The orientation angle of the maximum principal stress was within 8.deg. from the given directioin. 4) meausrements were made varying hole depths. Little or no change of stresses occurs since holse were drilled more than the depth of the 0.6 times diameter. 5) The air-abrasive jet machining for drilling holse does not cause appreciable apparent stresses which si critical to measure residual stresses.

  • We propose a method for estimating coefficients of AR (autoregressive) model which named MLPAR (Maximum Likelihood of Pearson system for Auto-Regressive model). In the present method for estimating coefficients of AR model, there is an assumption that residual or error term of the model follows the normal distribution. In common cases, we can observe that the error of AR model does not follow the normal distribution. So the normal assumption will cause decreasing prediction accuracy of AR model. In the paper, we propose the MLPAR which does not assume the normal distribution of error term. The MLPAR estimates coefficients of auto-regressive model and distribution moments of residual by using pearson distribution system and maximum likelihood estimation. Comparing proposed method to auto-regressive model, results are shown to verify improved performance of the MLPAR in terms of prediction accuracy.

  • This paper presents a reduction method for a straight-line path error of a flexible beam deploying from a rotating rigid hub. Previous studies discussed about only vibration phenomena of flexible beams deploying from rotating hubs; however, this study investigates a vibration reduction of a rotating beam with variable length. The equation of motion and associated boundary conditions are derived for a flexible beam deploying from a rotating rigid hub, and then they are transformed to a variational equation. By applying the Galerkin method, the discretized equations are obtained from the variational equation. Based on the discretized equations, the dynamic responses of a rotating/deploying beam are analyzed when the beam end has a straight line motion. A reduction method for the trajectory error is proposed, using the average length of a rotating/deploying beam. It is shown that the proposed method is able to reduce the residual vibration of a rotating/deploying beam.
