Ths study was peformed to evaluate the degree of degradation and safety of a small agricultural reservoir, Kosam Reservoir, in Kyungki Province. Evaluation was done by the program developed by the authors. Results of the study are as follows: 1) Although many burrows were found in downstream side of embankment and cracks were found in wall joining spillway, it appeared that degree of degradation of embankment was in good conditions. 2) Compressive strengths of concrete of crest, side channel, chute floor of spillway were in poor condition. But it appeared that overall degree of degradation of structures was in medium condition based on the criteria of the evaluation system 3) From the analysis of slope stability, safety factor of downstream slope was over 3.3 for the worst condition, such as flood and high water level and that of upstream slope was also over 3.6 for rapid drawdown. In case of earthquake, safety factors were over 2.5 for all conditions. Therefore embankment slopes of Kosam Reservoir were very stable for normal and earthquake condition. 4) As upon assumed failure of embankment of Kosam Reservoir, degree of damage was estimated to be very serious because of many loss of life and properties in the downstream area. 5) Overall grade of safety of Kosam Reservoir was in good condition. Therefore safety was considered to be "No problems" at the present time but further degradation may be proceeded partly and continuously as time goes by.e goes by.
For the successful characterization of the fractured reservoir, it is inevitable to describe fracture properties more precisely. Although the deterministic features, of mega-trend faults can be relatively definite, the background features of minor fractures are not easily analysed in spite of the various data of these features. In this study, two different methods, statistical and fractal methods, are used to construct the minor fracture system over the entire field. After completing these tasks, with the identified deterministic features and background features, total fracture system for fractured reservoir is constructed and updated with the aid of dynamic data obtained from well test.
This study was performed to suggest a rational method for the stability evaluation of agricultural reservoir in the very soft ground. The stability methods for agricultural reservoir was used to compare and analyze with various condition by limit equilibrium method. The behavior of settlement-displacement obtained by field monitoring system was used to compare and analyze with various stability methods, and to investigate the applicability of the methods for stability evaluation of agricultural reservoir. The horizontal displacement was abruptly increased when physical properties of soft clay reached its maximum values and therefore, the values of these properties could be used to the fundamental data for stability evaluation. The evaluation of the stability of agricultural reservoir was suggested to use the inclination of curve rather than critical line.

In this study, we developed a method to determine the flood-limited water levels of agricultural reservoirs, considering both their irrigation and flood control functions. Irrigation safety and flood safety indices were defined to be applied to various reservoirs, allowing for a comprehensive assessment of the irrigation and flood control properties. Seasonal flood-limited water level scenarios were established to represent the temporal characteristics of rainfall and agricultural water supply and the safety indices were analyzed according to these scenarios. The optimal scenarios were derived using a schematic solution based on Pareto front analysis. The method was applied to Obong, Yedang, and Myogok reservoirs, and the results showed that the characteristics of each reservoir were well represented in the safety indices. The irrigation safety of Obong reservoir was found to be significantly influenced by the late-stage flood-limited water level, while those of Yedang and Myogok reservoir were primarily affected by the early and mid-stage flood-limited water levels. The values of irrigation safety and flood safety indices for each scenario were plotted as points on the coordinate plane, and the optimal flood-limited water levels were selected from the Pareto front. The storage ratio of the optimal flood-limited water levels for the early, mid, and late stages were 65-70%, 70%, and 75% for Obong reservoir, 75%, 70-75%, and 65-70% for Yedang reservoir, and 75-80%, 70%, and 50% for Myogok reservoir. We expect that the method developed in this study will facilitate efficient reservoir operations.

There are 17,427 reservoirs in Korea, of which about 96% were built before the mid 1980s. Therefore, aging is severe and reinforcement are necessary. In addition, aged reservoirs, which are more than 50 years old, account for 70% of the total. Therefore, there is a problem such as the collapse of the reservoir and the decrease of the storage capacity due to progress of aging with time. The grouting method using cement is mainly used as maintenance and reinforcement method of old reservoir. However, the grouting method using cement has engineering and environmental problems. In order to solve the engineering and environmental problems of cement grouting method, an eco-friendly grouting material was developed that mixes circular resource grouting binder, high molar ratio sodium silicate and colloidal silica. The engineering and environmental properties of the developed injection materials were evaluated by conducting gel time, homo-gel strength, sea water resistance test and environmental stability evaluation. Also, examined the possibility of replacing OPC existing aged reservoir reinforcement methods. As a result, it was found out that it was better than the conventional cement method in terms of engineering and environment. However, since this study is the result of laboratory test, it is necessary of verify the application at field of aged reservoir.
Well logging technologies are used to measure the physical properties of reservoirs through boreholes. These technologies have been utilized to understand reservoir characteristics, such as porosity, fluid saturation, etc., using equations based on rock physics models. The analysis of well logs is performed by selecting a reliable rock physics model adequate for reservoir conditions or characteristics, comparing the results using the Archie's equation or simandoux method, and determining the most feasible reservoir properties. In this study, we developed a joint inversion algorithm to estimate physical properties in shaly sandstone reservoirs based on the pre-existing algorithm for sandstone reservoirs. For this purpose, we proposed a rock physics model with respect to shale volume, constructed the Jacobian matrix, and performed the sensitivity analysis for understanding the relationship between well-logging data and rock properties. The joint inversion algorithm was implemented by adopting the least-squares method using probabilistic approach. The developed algorithm was applied to the well-logging data obtained from the Colony gas sandstone reservoir. The results were compared with the simandox method and the joint inversion algorithms of sand stone reservoirs.

In this study, we compared and analyzed the static and dynamic analysis method for agricultural reservoirs. In addition, we assumed the aging of reservoir as the deterioration of the internal friction angle and cohesion. The internal friction angle and cohesion were applied by dividing into 4 case for each reservoir. As a result of comparing the stability of the reservoir embankment, it was found that the dynamic stability analysis method showed a greater risk than the static stability analysis method when dynamic loads such as earthquakes were applied. Therefore, when detailed review such as liquefaction is required, it is considered that the dynamic stability analysis method should be applied first. If a study on the change in material properties due to the aging of the reservoir is conducted, the stability analysis of the reservoir due to the aging of the reservoir can be performed more accurately. In addition, if a study comparing the results of dynamic stability analysis and static stability analysis for earthquakes with various characteristics for more reservoirs is conducted, detailed criteria for the case where dynamic stability analysis should be considered can be presented.
Resistivity inversion result may be distorted if the seepage line fluctuation within central core with the change of reservoir water level as well as the conductivity of the reservoir water is not taken into consideration because the reservoir dike is composed of three-dimensional (3D) resistivity structure. Consequently, to accurately analyze the resistivity changes inside the reservoir dike according to the change of reservoir water level, 3D electrical resistivity modeling for the 2D survey line considering topography and physical properties of dam components was carried out. In addition, 2D inversion was performed with the simulated 2D resistivity data for a given 3D model in order to compare it with the inversion result of real field data. For 283 reservoirs in Korea, 2D inversion results for the simulated 2D data and field 2D resistivity data were compared. Finally, the reservoirs with an inversion ratio of 50% or less were selected as reservoirs that require further precise investigation.
Reservoir Characterization (RC) using 3-D seismic attributes analysis can provide properties of the oil sand reservoirs, beyond seismic resolution. For example, distributions and temporal bed thicknesses of reservoirs could be characterized by Spectral Decomposition (SD) and additional seismic attributes such as wavelet classification. To extract physical properties of the reservoirs, we applied 3-D seismic attributes analysis to the oil sand reservoirs in McMurray formation, in BlackGold Oilsands Lease, Alberta Canada. Because of high viscosity of the bitumen, Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) technology will be necessarily applied to produce the bitumen in a steam chamber generated by Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD). To optimize the application of SAGD, it is critical to identify the distributions and thicknesses of the channel sand reservoirs and shale barriers in the promising areas. By 3-D seismic attributes analysis, we could understand the expected paleo-channel and characteristics of the reservoirs. However, further seismic analysis (e.g., elastic impedance inversion and AVO inversion) as well as geological interpretations are still required to improve the resolution and quality of RC.
This study presents a methodology of history matching to evaluate the productivity of shale gas reservoir with high reliability and predict future production rate in the Horn-River basin, Canada. Sensitivity analysis was performed to analyze the effect of physical properties of shale gas reservoir on productivity. Based on the results, reservoir properties were classified into 4 cases and history matching were performed considering the classified 4 cases as objective function. The blind test was conducted using additional field production data for 3 years after the history matching period. The error of gas production rate in Case 1(all reservoir parameters), Case 2(influenced parameters for productivity), Case 3(controllable parameters), and Case 4(uncontrollable parameters) were 7.67%, 7.13%, 17.54%, and 10.04%, respectively. This means that it seems to be effective to consider all reservoir parameters in early period for 4 years but Case 2 which considered influenced parameters for productivity shows the highest reliability in predicting future production. The estimated ultimate recovery (EUR) of production well predicted using the Case 2 model was estimated to be 17.24 Bcf by December 2030 and the recovery factor compared to original gas in place (OGIP) was 32.2%.
