Water supply reliability indexes (WSRI) is estimated for assessment of water supply capacity in the downstream for parallel reservoir system in Nakdong River, South Korea, using allocation rule (AR) according to the water supply capacity of each reservoir and the characteristic of parallel reservoir system. The result of the analyzing parallel reservoir system for Andong and Imha reservoir in Nakdong River does not include evidences available enough to decide whether the results of water supply analysis are excellent in the current reliability evaluation or not. However, AR (C) shows a good result in the water supply capacity for each reservoir based on the connected operation system and the total water supply capacity at the control point of downstream by the average water supply capacity and possible range of water supply capacity suggested by this study. The average water supply capacity is analyzed by the reliability of monthly average water supply capacity. Furthermore, the possible range of water supply capacity is estimated by the standard deviation when water deficit occurs. Therefore, AR (C) is useful to establish and estimate the planning water supply capacity according to the monthly water supply condition and the possible range of water supply capacity when the water supply capacity deficit occurs, South Korea.

Yochon reservoir was consturcted with an original storage capacity of 202.7 chung-meters. This reservoir receives the water from watershed area of 933.0 chungbo and has irrigated area of 478.0 chungbo. In 1967 a detailed capacity survey of this reservoir was carried out by a new depth-recorder under the scheme of reservoir sedimentation of Agricultural Engineering Research Center. Significant findings are 1. The capacity of the reservoir for the water storage has been reduced by 8.9%(18.066 chung-meters out of the 202.7 chung-meters) since its construction, a period of just 39.0 years. 2. The sediment accumulation in the reservoir represents an average annual soil loss of 0.496mm depth(0.463 chung-meters) of soil from the watershed area of 933.0 chungbo. Eventually the capacity of the reservoir for the water storage will be reducing by about 25%(50.7 chung-meters out of the 202.7 chung-meters)in one hundred years since its construction. We have to set up controlling projects for those reservoir protections from the sediment, soil loss, and other failures. The depth recorder is very useful, convenient, and accurate machine for surveys of reservoir capacity and other river surveys.

Periodic assessment of reservoir capacity is essential for better water resources management and planning for the future water use. Reservoirs and water storage structures raised on the rivers are subjected to sedimentation and he sedimentation is caused by deposition of eroded sediment particles carried by the streams. Knowledge of reservoir sedimentation is important to estimate avaliable storage capacity for optimum reservoir operation and scheduling water release. In recent years, remote sensing and GIS techniques have emerged as an important tool in carrying out reservoir capacity analysis and water management. The reduction in storage capacity as compared to the original capacity at the time of reservoir impounding is indicative of sediment deposition. In this study, the application of GIS and remote sensing techniques were applied to assess the sediment deposition, losses in the reservoir storage and the revised cumulative capacity. Satellite images covering Pyodongdong reservoir were analyzed using Erdas Imagine and ArcGIS softwares.Cumulative capacities at different levels were also calculated and we estimated that the revised live storage was 84.2Mft3 in 2021 and 64.3Mft3 in 2022 while the original capacity was 22.8 and 53.6Mft3 in 2021 and 2022.

Reservoir area and reservoir capacity must be evaluated for reservoir management such a water supply, water-purity control and so on. In this paper, the reservoir area and reservoir capacity according to the level of storage range of water(149~156 El.m) could be calculated by using TIN data model of study area, Gyoyeon reservoir, TIN data model was made of DSM which was created by using UAV and GCP survey. From the results of applying the various functions to reservoir area and capacity, reservoir area and reservoir capacity according to the level of storage range of water showed the highest coefficient of determination of 0.97 in fourth-order polynomial, and 0.99 in second-order polynomial, respectively. Thus, it could be expected the efficient reservoir management by estimating reservoir area and capacity curve equation through UAV photogrammetry.

We investigated flood control capacity of 484 agricultural reservoirs with storage capacity of over 1 million $m^3$ in South Korea. In general, agricultural reservoir secures flood control capacity by setting up limited water level during flood season from late June to mid-September. The flood control capacity of an agricultural reservoir during flood season can be divided into stable flood control capacity during non-flood season, stable flood control capacity associated with limited water level, and unstable flood control capacity associated with limited water level. In general, the flood control capacity significantly (P < 0.001) increased with reservoir capacity irrespective of type of spillway. The unstable flood control capacity accounted for about 20 % of reservoir capacity in the uncontrolled reservoirs. The study reservoirs showed flood control capacity of 0.60-65 billion (B) $m^3$ and stable flood control capacity of 0.43-47 B $m^3$, depending on the upper and lower limited water levels during the flood season. The stable flood control capacity of the gated reservoirs (0.29-0.33 B $m^3$) was about two times than that of reservoirs with uncontrolled spillways (0.14 B $m^3$). The ratios of stable flood control capacity to reservoir capacity for agricultural reservoirs range from 21 to 23 %, similar to that for Daecheong multipurpose dam. Moreover, the reservoirs with over 100 mm ratio of flood control capacity to watershed area accounted for 38 % of total gated reservoirs. The results indicate that many agricultural reservoirs may contribute to controlling flood in the small watersheds during the flood season.

Sediment yields from the reservoir watershed areas and raising of the spillway crest for the agricultural reservoir capacity enlargement were investigated and analysed through the 21 pilot reservoirs, have irrigated areas 200has. and over in the Kyoungpook province. In these studies, (1), the correlation analysis between various watershed characteristics and annual specific sediment yields were derived and (2), the excess effective reservoir capacity of the over 0.5m above the spillway crest could be estimated. In brief, catchment area should strongly be correlated with the annual specific sediment yields (R=0.90), the other side, average slope of the main stream is less than catchment area. The excess effective capacity of reservoir enlargement by the raising of spillway crest at 0.5m-height was resulted 12.1% of increasing capacity compare with the original reservoir capacity.
For the determination of a reservoir capacity Rippl's mass-curve method has long been used with the past river flow data assuming the same flow records will be repeated in the future. This study aims to find out a better method for determining the reservoir capacity by employing the analytical theory based on the stochastic process. For the present study the synthetic generation methods of Thomas-Fiering type was used to synthetically generate 50 years of monthly river inflows to three single-purpose reservoirs and three multi-purpose reservoirs. The generated sequences of monthly flows were analyzed based on the range concept. With the optimum operation rule of the reservoirs as the one which maximizes the water-use downstream the waterrelease from the reservoir was determined and with due consideration to the mean inflows and the range of monthly flows the required reservoirs capacity was stochastically determined. It was possible to repersent the so-determined reservoir capacity in terms of the mean monthly inflows and the number of subseries in the determination of ranges. It is suggested that the result obtained in this study would be applied to approximately estimate, in the stage of preliminary design, the required capacity of a reservoir in question with the limited information such as the mean monthly inflow and the period of reservoir operation.

Dam is very important facility in water supply and flood control. Therefore study needs to analyze reservoir capacity accurately to manage Dam efficiently. This study compared time series reservoir capacity using multi-dimensional spatial information to Chungju Dam reservoir and major conclusions are as follows. First, LiDAR and multi beam echo sounder survey were carried out in land zone and water zone of Dam reservoir area. And calibration process was performed to enhance the accuracy of survey data and it could be constructed that multi dimensional spatial information which was clearly satisfied with the standard of tolerance error by validation with ground control points. Reservoir capacity by water level was calculated using triangle irregular network from detailed topographic data that was constructed by linked with airborne LiDAR and multi beam echo sounder data, and curve equation of reservoir capacity was developed through regression analysis in 2008. In the comparison of the reservoir capacity of 2008 with those of 1986 and 1996, the higher water level goes, total reservoir capacity of 2008 showed decrease because of the increase of sediment in reservoir. Also, erosion and sediment area could be analyzed through calculating the reservoir capacity by the range of water level. Especially the range of water level as 130.0~135.0 which is the upper part of average water level, showed the highest erosion characteristics during 1986~2008 and 1996~2008 and it is considered that the erosion of reservoir slant by heavy rainfall is major reason.

The optimal reservoir storage capacity is needed to be determined at the stage of reservoir planning. The reservoir storage capacity should be based on water balance between demand and supply, and meet the water deficity during the growing season. However, the optimal reservoir storage capacity should be determined considering benefit-cost analysis for the project. In this study, Two models are developed. The one is the RSOM(Reservoir Storage Optimization Model), that is consisted by three submodels, MROPER (Modified Reservoir OPERation model), RESICO(REservoir SIze and the construction COst computation) model. And the other is the BECA(BEnefit-Cost Anaysis) model. For model application, three districts, Chungha, Ipsil and Edong were selected. The relative difference of B/C ratio between project planning data and estimation by RSOM is 17.9, 15.0 and 7.3% respectively, which may be applicable for water resources development feasibility planning.

An embankment raising project on 113 agricultural reservoirs in Korea was implemented in 2009 to increase water supply capacity for agricultural water and instream uses. This study evaluated the future water supply capacity of the Imgo reservoir at which the agricultural reservoir embankment raising project was completed, considering climate change scenarios. The height of the embankment of the reservoir was increased by 4.5 m, thereby increasing its total storage from 1,657.0 thousand to 3,179.5 thousand cubic meters. To simulate the reservoir water storage with respect to climate changes, two climate change scenarios, namely, RCP 4.5 and RCP 8.5 (in which greenhouse gas reduction policy was executed and not executed, respectively) were applied with bias correction for reflecting the climate characteristics of the target basin. The analysis result of the agricultural water supply capacity in the future, after the agricultural reservoir embankment raising project is implemented, revealed that the water supply reliability and the agricultural water supply increased, regardless of the climate change scenarios. By simulating the reservoir water storage considering the instream flow post completion of the embankment raising project, it was found that water shortage in the reservoir in the future is not likely to occur when it is supplied with an appropriate instream flow. The range of instream flow tends to decrease over time under RCP 8.5, in which the greenhouse gas reduction policy was not executed, and the restoration of reservoir storage was lower in this scenario than in RCP 4.5, in which greenhouse gas reduction policy was executed.
