  • The purpose of this phenomenological study was to understand the lived experience of mothers of children with muscular dystrophy. The participants were 11 mothers recruited by snowball sampling, who agreed with the objectives of the research and could verbally communicate with the researcher and who lived with their sons who had muscular dystrophy. Data collection was done through in-depth interviews with participants in their own homes. Each interview took 50 to 120 minutes. All of the interviews were audiotaped and then transcribed. Data were analyzed using Colaizzi's (1978) method of phenomenology. From the transcripts 109 significant sentences and phrases were selected and 13 clusters of themes were categorized from 67 significant statements. These results were integrated into the essential structure of the lived experience of mothers of children with muscular dystrophy. 1. Anxious and relying on chance due to indefinite diagnosis. 2. Only able to cry with shock because of son's fatal disease. 3. Seeing the future as dismal and feeling resentment that this disease in transmitted through the mother. 4. Feeling caught between a husband who is distancing himself from his family and the family which is disintegrating. 5. Feeling like a sinner for transmission of genetic disease(Feeling guilt for conceiving a son with a genetically transmitted fatal disease). 6. Empathizing with other suffers of muscular dystropy and their parents in their grief and helping to dissipate their heavy feelings. 7. Deciding to sacrifice self as a way of taking responsibility for giving birth to a handi-capped son. 8. Losing hope (feeling despair) as son's condition deteriorates in spite of all attempts to help him. 9. Wishing to die with son who becomes progressively immobile. 10. Accumulating Han*(한, 恨), because of rising Hwa(화, anger), and becoming sick both mentally and physically. 11. Seeing events as destiny and finding self-control through faith. 12. Finally, giving up sacrificing self for son and becoming concerned(involved) with other children in the family. 13. Feeling fear at son's impending death. This is the first research on the experience of Korean mothers of children with muscular dystrophy. In applying the phenomenology research method, this study not only helps health professionals understand the experience of these mothers in the Korean patriarchal social system, but the researcher, as a nurse, can share their agony and grief through identification of their inner world through in-depth personal interviews. The results obtained in this study will not only help in the development of family nursing practice for families with genetically transmitted diseases but also prepare basic data for family nursing practice in the Korean sociocultural context.

  • "It's Only the End of the World" is a work that expresses in depth the perception, attitude, and reflection of a person's death. Composed of a simple story of a protagonist who has been diagnosed with AIDS and has been visiting his hometown for the first time in 12 years, this work constantly asks us what a family is in this process. The visit, which aims to inform one's condition, restore the relationship with his family as he wished, and foremost but in a beautiful parting, reveals the feelings of resentment, hatred and criticism between the family members who have been hiding or trying to accept. Are family relationships always understood and must be forgiven and cared for? The director looks into the abyss of the relationship and reveals the painful truth we wanted to hide. And we realize that this painful truth is a reality. Louis's negative stance, and the complaints and dissatisfaction of the family members who were waiting for him were absolutely inadequate in narrowing the gap. This family, each of whom has a wound and does not really understand each other, shows a deep bond of feelings toward each other, though they are tied together in a 'family' community.

  • An increase in the number of immigrants to Korea since the late 1980s' has signified the proliferation of globalization and global capitalism. In Korea, most married immigrants are women, as the culture emphasizes patrilineage and the stability of the institution of marriage, particularly in rural areas. Immigrant women have experienced dual ordeals. The Aogra Internet community in Korea has been one of the most representative sites that has shown the power of communities in cyberspace since 2002, leading the discussion of social issues and deliberative democracy both online and offline. This paper analyzed Koreans' writings (such as long comments) on immigrant women in the Agora community. The analysis revealed the following results: first, immigrant women were referred to using terms related to prostitution, with excessive expression of disgust, which is called a "narrative of identity." Second, anti-multiculturalists called Korean men victims of married immigrant women and expressed hatred toward immigrant women, which is called a "narrative of sacrifice." Third, anti-multiculturalists justified their emotions as just resentment based on ideas of justice, equality, and patriotism, concealing the emotion of disgust, which is called the "narrative of justice, equality." Fourth, antimulticulturalists played roles to spread the emotion of disgust, by repeatedly referring to international marriage fraud and immigrant workers' crimes, which is called "narrative of crime." Fifth, some positive writings on immigrant women were based on empathy(a concept defined in this context by Martha Nussbaum), but they can be analyzed as narratives encouraging cultural integration through the perspective of orientalism. Therefore, comments on immigrant women in the Agora represent a "catch-22" dilemma. To deal with conflicts arising from disgust and violations of human rights, civic education focusing on humanism is needed in this multicultural era.

  • This Article's aim is to articulate Confucius's theory of poetics in analects. Confucius tried to establish Humanism and educate the idea of 'learning to become a sage' based upon six classics. He empathized with the education of The Book of Poetry. Sze-ma Tseen said that the old poems amounted to more than 3,000. Confucius removed those which were only repetitions of others and sang to them with his lute, bringing them into accordance with the appropriate musical style. This is the first notice which we have of any compilation of the ancient poems by Confucius. Confucius said, "If you do not learn the Odes, you are not fit to converse with. The Odes 1) serve to stimulate the mind, 2) may be used for purposes of self-contemplation, 3) teach the art of sociability, 4) show how to regulate feelings of resentment, 5-6.) 'From them you learn the more immediate duty of serving one's father, and the remoter one of serving one's prince. and from them we become largely acquainted with the names of birds, beasts, and plants.' Confucius' said, 'In the Book of Poetry are three hundred pieces, but the design of them all may be embraced in one sentence-- "Having no depraved thoughts."' This sentence is the final definition of Poetics.

  • Based on the Kohut's theory, this study carries out an investigation into the counselor's self object role in pathological narcissism. The theological understandings deal with narcissism, pathology, and self object. Narcissism and pathology can be seen as the failure of the formation of cohesive self. Early infant self, by feeling proper sympathy and love, usually forms integrated cohesive self. In other words, narcissistic personalities, when failing to receive sympathy and accommodation, can result in forming helpless and vulnerable self, which is filled with resentment. In addition, narcissistic characters are afraid of the world and maintain the grandiose image of self to protect themselves from feeling helplessness and emptiness. On the other hand, when they experience accommodation and admiration provided by self object, they can strengthen the image of grandiose self and demonstrate creative abilities as well. An infant remains as a fragmented self, when his or her relationship experience with self object is to be damaged. This study suggests the following conclusions: The counselor's self object role for pathological narcissism should be sympathetic self object so that the counselee will be able to form his or her own healthy cohesive self. Additionally, self object should play a kind role to guide infant desires for ideal models, which eventually help infants to pursue healthy ideas and maintain early states of narcissistic balances.

  • In this paper, this author studied the realization of Daesoonjinri's Haewon Sangsaeng(解冤相生) in this world, for instance discussed the meaning of Daesoonjinri's Haewon Sangsaeng, a world construction with Haewon Sangsaeng, its practical action for the realization of Haewon Sangsaeng, and so forth. A description of the contents is as follows. Daesoonjinri's Haewon Sangsaeng eliminates the resentment of human destiny, and provides the grounds that we peoples can live with, going to help each other. And then the realization of Daesoonjinri's Haewon Sangsaeng in this world will require us to this society. Really Sangje(上帝) wanted to perform it in this world, and has performed it with a reorganizing in the order of heaven and the earth(天地公事). In response to the deeper sublimest will of Sangje, we humans can not help but do as follows: When Sangje has done a reorganizing in the order of heaven and the earth, we humans should participate in it. This is our response to the will of Sangje who wants to build an ideal society in this world. And in oder to participate in a reorganizing in the order of heaven and the earth, we humans should look up Sangje with Sincerity(誠), Reverence(敬), and should practice the words of Sangje with Faith(信). This kind of thing is a route that we should avoid Jeokwon Sanggeuk(積怨相克) and should perform Haewon Sangsaeng. This Haewon Sangsaeng can be achieved with no Chuck(無慼), an altruistic, no greed(無慾), an execution of asceticism(修道), and the practice of Podeok (布德)·Rehabilitation(敎化). No making of a Chuck, doing an altruistic, no greed, an execution of asceticism would not deceive others, would not murder others, would not blame the transgressions of others, would not discriminate, would not harm others. And Podeok·Rehabilitation should be performed well in practice. When performing Podeok and Rehabilitation, we should not nullify them as unjust words or undue actions, and we must be a true. Because we must make the words of Sangje inform a world wide well, and must convince the words of Sangje to peoples so that they can adhere to them with a faith. That's the way that we humans should participate in a reorganizing in the order of heaven and the earth in this current world, and the way that we should contribute to building the ideal society in the world.
