  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the use of information resources of the humanities scholars in Korea and suggest the strategic planning of academic library and information services to serve their needs. To collect data, a mail survey was conducted during the period of November 2007 through January 2008. Out of 799 humanities scholars sampled from 25 universities, 132 responded with the completion rate of 16%. Major findings in this study are as follows: First, the majority of the humanities scholars distribute their time equally to research and education, and conduct independent research. Second, they still largely depend on print resources, including scholarly journals, books, and manuscripts for getting information, while using some online information resource mostly in text such as electronic documents and journals. They expect that the frequency of using such print resources would not decline much, but the use of online resources could definitely increase in the next five years. Some variances in the behavior were observed among the groups of scholars according to their research experiences. It is suggested that academic libraries (1) conduct more active outreach, (2) prioritize between traditional and electronic resources, (3) plan information literacy education for traditional resources.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the use of the electronic information resources of humanities scholars in Korea and propose the planning of academic library and information services to serve their needs. To collect data, a postal survey was conducted during the period of November 2007 through January 2008. Out of 799 humanities scholars sampled from 25 universities, 132 responded with a completion rate of 16%. The major findings of this study are as follows: Firstly, the majority of humanities scholars distribute their time equally between research and education, and conduct independent research. Secondly, they use, to a certain degree, electronic information resources largely in text format, and depend upon the electronic collection of their academic libraries. Thirdly, with the exception of a couple of sources of electronic journal resources, the electronic resources that these humanities scholars regularly use vary so widely that none could be considered to be a common resource. Fourthly, they value the convenience of accessing and using electronic resources, but worry about the quality and scope of the contents. It is suggested that academic libraries (1) become the gateway for the electronic information that is available both inside and outside the library, (2) provide integrated search feature for and a 'single sign on' access to electronic resources, and (3) plan customized user education for specific subject fields in the humanities.

  • Confucianism, the dominating thought in the Choson Dynasty, considered the congruence of scholar and bureaucrat as principle of royal politics, so it was the important affairs to educate and select scholars who excelled in Confucian science and its historical view. The process to educate and select the scholars in accordance with the spirit of Confucianism was called the civil service examination. In this study, we examined the dress and its ornaments of the Confucian students nd that of the successful candidate related to the system of the civil service examination, and focused on the literatures and figures. The Choson Dynasty looked upon the education as important and Confucian scholars and the successful candidate had the superior position in that society. The seems to have been the demarcation between the dress and its ornaments worn by the candidate and the successful candidate. According to the inquiry of the literatures and figures, the candidate is thought to have worn yuguhn(儒巾) or bokkuhn(幅巾) with chongsam(靑衫), nansam( 衫), jikryung(直領) and the successful candidate is thought to have worn bokduh( 頭) with easahwa(御史花), aengsam(鶯衫), danryung(團領) in the Choson Dynasty.

  • Entrepreneurship scholars have defined Corporate Entrepreneurship (CE) in many ways. Generally, works from these scholars had discussed on the common aspects of CE, benefits of CE, types of CE and ways to cultivate and design CE for companies. These scholars also developed models of CE to construct a framework for mapping CE research. From here, the present writers have presented a proposed framework to see how far the factors of CE, their business strategy and external environment influenced the developers' firm performance in housing development industry. However, this is just the initial stage of the study and the model needs to be revised before it can be tested in the field.

  • High-tech markets are unpredictable owing to rapid technology innovation, diverse customer needs, high competition, and other elements. Many scholars have attempted to explain the uncertainty in high-tech markets using their own various approaches. However, sufficiently clear ways to predict diverse changes and trends in high-tech markets have yet to be presented. Thus, this paper proposes a new approach model, that is, systematic market segmentation, to give more accurate information. Using an empirical dataset from the mobile handset market in the Republic of Korea, we conduct our research model consisting of three steps. First, we categorize nine basic segments. Second, we test the stability of these segments. Finally, we profile the characteristics of the customers and products. We conclude that the approach is able to offer more diagnostic information to both practitioners and scholars. It is expected to provide rich information for an appropriate marketing mix in practice.

  • Research related to Web-based learning (WBL) has grown exponentially in the last decade. Scholars have explored a variety of areas related to WBL, including techniques, strategies and best practices. One area of particular interest to scholars is the potential of WBL to support and facilitative collaborative learning. Despite the continued exploration, there continues to be a concern related to the theoretical foundations of WBL. The purpose of this article is to explore how different theories may be used to guide research and inform practice in online collaborative learning. We integrate the major points drawn from current research and theory from a variety of perspectives so as to gain a better understanding of how learning is enabled by asynchronous modes of online collaborative learning. We then use this understanding to identify opportunities and challenges for theory development and research in WBL.

  • Numerous scholars have explored the modeling, control, and optimization of energy systems in buildings, offering new insights about technology and environments that can advance industry innovation. Eye trackers deliver objective eye-gaze data about visual and attentional processes. Due to its flexibility, accuracy, and efficiency in research, eye tracking has a control scheme that makes measuring rapid eye movement in three-dimensional space possible (e.g., virtual reality, augmented reality). Because eye movement is an effective modality for digital interaction with a virtual environment, tracking how users scan a visual field and fix on various digital objects can help designers optimize building environments and materials. Although several scholars have conducted Virtual Reality studies in three-dimensional space, scholars have not agreed on a consistent way to analyze eye tracking data. We conducted eye tracking experiments using objects in three-dimensional space to find an objective way to process quantitative visual data. By applying a 12 × 12 grid framework for eye tracking analysis, we investigated how people gazed at objects in a virtual space wearing a headmounted display. The findings provide an empirical base for a standardized protocol for analyzing eye tracking data in the context of virtual environments.

  • Purpose - The purpose of this study was to review and analyze EAJBE (The East Asian Journal of Business Economics) of EABEA (The East Asia Business Economics Association) and all of their published articles of 2013 to 2017 and to revise and update the existing publication standards and practices in order to improve the overall quality and reputation of EAJBE. Research design, data, and methodology - This paper applied an analytical approach, a case study method, to analyze and examine the published articles and the publication standards and practices of EAJBE (East Asian Journal of Business Economics) from their first publication. Results - The EAJBE has been issuing academic journals four times a year since its foundation. Although it is a journal based in Korea, overseas scholars publish articles steadily compared to other academic journals and the EAJBE raises the level of globalization. The level of internationalization of association's management and editorial members is also high, making the overall academic journal more cosmopolitan. Conclusions - Although the EABEA (The East Asia Business Economics Association) is a newly formed, the association is actively managing the academic community and making two major goals for the development of the academic journal. First, this journal is actively attracting overseas scholars, and is raising the level of internationalization. As an integrated academic conference is held with overseas scholars, they actively exchange with overseas scholars by contributing and publishing their papers. Second, it is seeking to establish national and international ties by publishing the papers of Korean scholars as well as abroad and holding academic contests regularly.

  • This study is about the ‘paradigm’ which works as a theoretical base for planning and managing elderly housing. For this purpose, this study surveyed published research works, and analysed the contents and the paradigms of the researches. This is based on the literature survey, and surveyed 66 research works published in the last 8 years. The result of the survey tells us that almost all of the research works done by Korean scholars are based on the rational approach to the design of elderly housing. They emphasize ‘functional rationalism’ ‘technical perfection’ ‘reasonable program’ ‘economy and market’, etc. However, such qualities as‘character of human being’ ‘depth of existence’ ‘identity of culture’ ‘speciality of place’are not emphasized. This means that paradigms used by Korean scholars are biased, and are far from the plural culture characterizing 21 st century. This study, therefore, analysed new paradigms appeared on the recent research works about housing environment, and suggests several new paradigms which would be essential for future planning of elderly housing.
