  • Much research attention has been directed to identify how native speakers perceive non-native speakers' oral proficiency. To investigate the generalizability of previous findings, this study examined segmental, phonological, accentual, and temporal correlates of native speakers' evaluation of L2 Korean proficiency produced by learners with various levels and nationalities. Our experiment results show that proficiency ratings by native speakers significantly correlate not only with rate of speech, but also with the segmental accuracies. The influence of segmental errors has the highest correlation with the proficiency of L2 Korean speech. We further verified this finding within substitution, deletion, insertion error rates. Although phonological accuracy was expected to be highly correlated with the proficiency score, it was the least influential measure. Another new finding in this study is that the role of pitch and accent has been underemphasized so far in the non-native Korean speech perception studies. This work will serve as the groundwork for the development of automatic assessment module in Korean CAPT system.

  • Many methods have been suggested for a creative problem solving approach. TRIZ approach is ranked top in its practical application because it is originated from the real patent analysis. This approach is assumed to be generic which can be applied to any types of problems regardless of problem type and its domain. The objective of this study is to propose a creative problem solving approach using TRIZ's contradiction analysis, then introduce a case study of applying this approach to a creative design coursework. Main topic covers a creative problem solving approach, a problem definition using TRIZ contradiction analysis, finding invention principles, and problem solving from the generic approach. For the course project, Roborobo tool is adopted to implement the design concept. This coursework helps students finding a general problem solving approach, and applying a generic solution for their specific problem domain.

  • Four Humboldt penguins were imported from overseas in March, 1975. Soon after arrival at the Zoological Garden of Chang Gyeong Won in Seoul, two penguins became ill with symptoms of severe dysnnoea, vomiting, diarrhea and mild convulsion. They died on the second day of illness. The main pathological finding was bronchitis which accompanied a caseous airsacculitis on the left lung. A massive melanin pigmentation in the intertubular tissue of the testis was found accidentally.

  • Food & beverage part of nowadays hotel is steadily going up with the improvement of tourism industry and with the raise of income of the people, but some of the hotel kitchen has unchanged problem of low commercial profit and can't make improvement, so there are many kitchen problems. Especially, for the administrators of the hotels are avoiding from Korean kitchen with their cause that it makes lower profit than the other kitchen style. So, they are avoiding Korean kitchen itself, or showing minimized running. But, Korean kitchen should take off from its ways of being an assistant role or necessary evil as the part of income, by finding ways to make appropriate profit and ways to fulfill the variant desires of guests by running systematized and reasonable menu and Food cost control. This study is to suggest efficient management ways for the raise of profit and satisfaction of the guests by finding ways by analyzing the present situation of the menu and Food cost control of Korean kitchen by understanding these problems.

  • Due to recent growing interest in autonomous software agents and their potential application in areas such as electronic commerce, the autonomous negotiation become more important. Evidence from both theoretical analysis and observations of human interactions suggests that if decision makers have prior information on opponents and furthermore learn the behaviors of other agents from interaction, the overall payoff would increase. We propose a new methodology for a strategy finding process using data mining in autonomous negotiation system; ANSIA(Autonomous Negotiation System using Intelligent Agent). ANSIA is a strategy based negotiation system. The framework of ANSIA consists of three component layers; 1) search agent layer, 2) data mining agent layer and 3) negotiation agent layer. ANSIA is motivated by providing a computational framework for negotiation and by defining a strategy finding model with an autonomous negotiation process.

  • This research was designed to illuminate that work domains and family domains are not separated but interacting spheres and to suggest efficient coping strategies than alleviate work/family role conflicts. The subjects of this study were 395 employed professional wives living in Seoul. Korea. Survey methods were questionnaires. Data analysis strategies were percentile, frequency, one-way-anova and multiple classification analysis. The results were as follows; 1)Employed wives experienced time-based conflicts and strain-based role conflicts. This finding supports the scarcity approach that multiple roles inevitably create strain. 2) Individual, family and work-related variables were predictors of work/family role conflicts. This findings indicate that work domains and family domains cannot be regraded as separated spheres. 3) Employed wives tried to meet all the given roles demands not by reducing role responsibilities, but by increasing the efficiency of role performance. This finding reflects the characteristics of employed wives who try to perform successfully all the responsibilities. 4)The negative correlation of coping strategies and work/family role conflicts suggests that strategies can function effectively in alleviating the work/family role conflicts.

  • As the NNSS system calculates ship's position by the doppler shift of the NNSS radio waves caused by the change of the distance between Transit Satellite and the ship, ship's speed error inevitably results in the position error, and moreover this kind of erroris most dominant compared with other errors especially in high speed ships and airplanes. Most NNSS receivers now in use have adoptedsuccessive short doppler counts as positioning data and by investigating the dispersion of serval successive positions calculated and by neglecting the mean position having dispersion of over certain threshold level, more accurate adn safe position is to be achieved. This paper proposes the method of finding ship's true speed by selecting a speed having least position dispersion for given successive doppler counts. And by computer simulation it was verified that the method proposed here is reasonable in finding the ship's desired correct speed together with the correct ship's position.

  • This study demonstrates the utilization of light microscopy and Fast Fourier Transform-Peak Finding (FPF) method for microfibril angle (MFA) measurement from unstained sections of red pine (Pinus densiflora). To obtain an image with optimal contrast and resolution for MFA measurement, effects of numerical aperture (NA) of condenser lens and color filters were investigated. About 60% of NA of the maximum condenser NA produced an image with optimal contrast, but a color filter with short wavelength range (DAPI) created images with improved resolution. Manual angle measurement and the FPF method were applied to the image with optimal contrast for MFA measurement. The experimental results from the FPF method were considered to be more repeatable and less subjective than those from the manual angle measurement.

  • A brain tumor forms when some tissue becomes old or damaged but does not die when it must, preventing new tissue from being born. Manually finding such masses in the brain by analyzing MRI images is challenging and time-consuming for experts. In this study, our main objective is to detect the brain's tumorous part, allowing rapid diagnosis to treat the primary disease instantly. With image processing techniques and deep learning prediction algorithms, our research makes a system capable of finding a tumor in MRI images of a brain automatically and accurately. Our tumor segmentation adopts the U-Net deep learning segmentation on the standard MICCAI BRATS 2018 dataset, which has MRI images with different modalities. The proposed approach was evaluated and achieved Dice Coefficients of 0.9795, 0.9855, 0.9793, and 0.9950 across several test datasets. These results show that the proposed system achieves excellent segmentation of tumors in MRIs using deep learning techniques such as the U-Net algorithm.
