  • When we numerically model the bridge under seismic condition, the full model combining the super-structure and the sub-structure is considered for the more accurate results than the separate model. In this case, the super-structure is connected with the sub-structure by the elastic pad shoe that is difficult to model, because it has the three translational elastic stiffness and the three rotational elastic stiffness. The two-node General Link element is derived in finite element equation representing such a pad shoe, and it is verified by comparing the one General Link element model with the corresponding three legacy spring element model. It is easy to model the pad shoe, if the General Link finite element is used. And the seismic analysis result of the bridge full model structure, which is modeled with the General Link element, has been compared with the one of the separate model structure. The present study gives. more conservative result than that of the separate model, which does not consider the dynamic behaviour of the sub-structure.

  • Sentiment analysis incorporates natural language processing and artificial intelligence and has evolved as an important research area. Sentiment analysis on product reviews has been used in widespread applications to improve customer retention and business processes. In this paper, we propose a method for performing an intensified sentiment analysis on customer product reviews. The method involves the extraction of two feature sets from each of the given customer product reviews, a set of acoustic features (representing emotions) and a set of lexical features (representing sentiments). These sets are then combined and used in a supervised classifier to predict the sentiments of customers. We use an audio speech dataset prepared from Amazon product reviews and downloaded from the YouTube portal for the purposes of our experimental evaluations.

  • In accordance with the growing importance of software in computer systems, software quality and performance has become a hot issue in all computer-related fields and businesses. But the measurement and evaluation of software quality still poses a problem, due to the different viewpoints of software developers and users. This study attempts to combine the external characteristics of quality representing the viewpoint of users, and the internal characteristics representing the viewpoint of developers of quality. In order to do this, this study provides multiple models which select the appropriate internal characteristics which reflect user requirements from earlier phases of development. The goal of this study is to enhance the applicability of 40 internal characteristics of ISO 9126 to the models.

  • Mankyua chejuense is the only member of the monotypic genus Mankyua (Ophioglossaceae) and is endemic to Jejudo Island, Korea. To determine the precise phylogenetic position of M. chejuense, two cpDNA regions of 42 accessions representing major members of lycophytes are obtained from GenBank and analyzed using three phylogenetic analyses (maximum parsimony, maximum likelihood, and Bayesian inference). In addition, the divergence time is estimated based on a relaxed molecular clock using four fossil calibration points. The phylogenetic position of Mankyua still appears to be uncertain, representing either the earliest diverged lineage within Ophioglossaceae or a sister to the clade containing Ophioglossum and Helminthostachys. The most recent common ancestor of Ophioglossaceae and its sister lineage, Psilotum, was estimated to be 256 Ma, while the earliest divergence of Mankyua was estimated to be 195 Ma in the early Jurassic.

  • The ostracode foraminifera microbiogenic sediments of the Nagdon Estuary, which is a deltaic, have been analysed. Twenty four species representing seventeen genera of ostracodes and some species representing twenty three genera of foraminifera are identified and counted. From these data their geographical distribution patterns aree obtained and biotopes are determined in relation to the sediment distribution and hydrological parameters. There are several tendencies in the distribution of ostracodes and foraminifera. Both ostracode and foraminiferall population increased seaward. The ratio of foraminiferal population to the sum of the ostracode and the foraminiferal population, as well as the ratio of calcareous foraminifera to the sum of calcareous and agglutinated foraminiferal population, also increased seaward. The biotopes can be divided into two. Biotope I is the innershore environment and Biotope II offshore environment.

  • The capillary number is used to represent the mobilization potential of organic phase trapped within porous media. The capillary number has been defined by three different forms, according to types of flow velocity and viscosity used in the definition of capillary number. This study evaluated the suitability of the capillary number definitions for representing TCE mobilization by constructing capillary number-TCE saturation relationships. The results implied that the capillary number should be correctly employed, according to interest of scale and fluid flow behavior. This study suggests that the pore-scale capillary number may be used only for investigating the organic-phase mobilization at the pore scale because it is defined by the pore-velocity and the dynamic viscosity. The Newtonian-fluid capillary number using Darcy velocity and the dynamic viscosity may be suitable to quantify flood systems representing Newtonian fluid behavior. For viscous-force modified flood systems such as surfactant-foam floods, the apparent capillary number definition employing macroscopic properties (permeability and potential gradient) may be used to appropriately represent the desaturation of organic-phases from porous media.

  • The numerical model predicting the behaviours of submerged mound constructed by dredged material is developed in this paper. The model is based on the Bailard's sediment transport formula, Stokes' second-order wave theory and the sediment balance equation. Nonlinear partial differential equation which is the same form as convection-dispersion equation which represents change of bed section can be obtained by substituting sediment transport equation for equation of sediment conservation. By this process, the analytical solution by which the characteristic of the behaviours of submerged mound can be estimated is derived by probably combining the convention coefficient and the dispersion coefficient governing the behaviours of submerged mound and the probability density function representing the wave characteristics. The validity of the analytical solution is verified by comparing the analytical solution which is assumed to estimate the movement rate submerged mound by bed-load with the field data of the past and its characteristic is analyzed quantitatively by obtaining the mean of the dispersion coefficient representing the extent of the decrease rate of the submerged mound height.

  • We present the environmental dependence of the luminosity-size relation of galaxies in the local universe (z < 0.01) along with their dependence on galaxy morphology represented by five broad types (E, dEs, S0, Sp, and Irr). The environmental parameters we consider are the local background density and the group/cluster membership together with the clustercenteric distance for the Virgo cluster galaxies. We derive the regression coefficient (${\beta}$), i.e., the slope of the line representing the least-squares fitting to the data and the Pearson correlation coefficient (c.c.) representing the goodness of the least-squares fit along with the confidence interval from bootstrap resampling. We find no significant dependence of the luminosity-size relation on galaxy morphology. However, there is a weak dependence of the luminosity-size relations on the environment of galaxies, in the sense that galaxies in the low density environment have shallower slopes than galaxies in the high density regions except for elliptical galaxies that show an opposite trend.

  • This paper presents an endosymbiotic evolutionary algorithm (EEA) to solve both problems of line balancing and model sequencing in a mixed-model two-sided assembly line (MMtAL) simultaneously. It is important to have a proper balancing and model sequencing for an efficient operation of MMtAL. EEA imitates the natural evolution process of endosymbionts, which is an extension of existing symbiotic evolutionary algorithms. It provides a proper balance between parallel search with the separated individuals representing partial solutions and integrated search with endosymbionts representing entire solutions. The strategy of localized coevolution and the concept of steady-state genetic algorithms are used to improve the search efficiency. The experimental results reveal that EEA is better than two compared symbiotic evolutionary algorithms as well as a traditional genetic algorithm in solution quality.

  • The distribution of microzooplankton and hydrographic variables were measured in the Virginia portion of Chesapeake Bay and its major rivers. Samples were collected at 14 locations at monthly interval from September 1993 through December 1995. Ciliates were numerically dominated (>90%) and copepod nauplii comprised highest proportion of the total microzooplankton biomass (>77%). Copepod nauplii and ciliates were the most abundant at oligohaline water and rotifers at freshwater. Total microzooplankton density and biomass were usually higher at oligohaline stations than fresh water and polyhaline stations. Despite high nutrient concentration and phytoplankton density at eutrophic water, micro- and mesozooplankton biomass were low. Mesozooplankton were relatively abundant at polyhaline stations. The comparison between annual mean biomass of ciliates (12.7 ${\mu$}gC/1) and that of autotrophic picoplankton (13.5 {$\mu$}gC/1) revealed that ciliates were a major consumer of picoplankton production. The secondary production by ciliates was 12.7 ${\mu}$gC/1/day, representing 5% of the annual mean primary production in Chesapeake Bay, Total microzooplankton comprised 84% of the total zooplankton carbon content, representing five times higher than mesozooplankton biomass.
