  • A neural network is a modeling technique useful for finding out hidden patterns from data through repetitive learning process and for predicting target values for new data. In this study, we built multilayer perceptron neural networks for prediction of the students' computer literacy based on their personal characteristics, home and social environment, and academic record of other subjects. Prediction performance of the network was compared with that of a widely used prediction method, the regression model. From our experiments, it was found that personal characteristic features best explained computer proficiency level of a student, whereas the features of home and social environment resulted in the worse prediction accuracy among all. Moreover, the developed neural network model produced far more accurate prediction than the regression model.

  • The current 7th Curriculum require elementary students to participate in an independent computer education class one time per week through means of discretion activity. However a national standard of this educational process has yet to be established, which has made regional provincial and city offices of education to choose textbooks for this purpose by discretion, that showed difference in quality, in operating education curriculums related to computer education for each classes in school such as continuing the repetitive contents without any rank or system. Also informatization education, which is one of national policies, might develop educational unbalance to young children who are to become the main characters in the future information society, due to excessive emphasis on aspect of using computer, which develops education mainly based on learning functions of applicable software. Therefore, we are proposing a discretion activity education curriculum model for utilization of computer education in elementary school which is showing regional difference based on former studies. This study will be helpful in substantiating of computer education in elementary schools in the future.

  • The research object is stepwise process of absorptive capacity is important factor to get the successful result of technology commercialization training program. We analyze the relationship between absorptive capacity and educational performance with empirical study to the students who attended the technology commercialization training program. Results show that potential absorptive capacity has positive effect on realized absorptive capacity. Realized absorptive capacity also has the positive effect on educational performance. We conclude the successful technology commercialization training program is based on the stepwise process of absorptive capacity. That means technology commercialization training program will set up based on not functional but stepwise process. Further more, technology commercialization training program must be practical, focusing, interdisciplinary, and repetitive courses.

  • In this work, a novel silicon (Si) based floating body synaptic transistor (SFST) is studied to mimic the transition from short-term memory to long-term one in the biological system. The structure of the proposed SFST is based on an n-type metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor (MOSFET) with floating body and charge storage layer which provide the functions of short- and long-term memories, respectively. It has very similar characteristics with those of the biological memory system in the sense that the transition between short- and long-term memories is performed by the repetitive learning. Spike timing-dependent plasticity (STDP) characteristics are closely investigated for the SFST device. It has been found from the simulation results that the connectivity between pre- and post-synaptic neurons has strong dependence on the relative spike timing among electrical signals. In addition, the neuromorphic system having direct connection between the SFST devices and neuron circuits are designed.

  • This paper proposes a tool that can be used as a logical expression simplification tool that can be used for deepening learning of logic circuits and further utilized as a design automation tool for optimizing semiconductor parts. The simplification method of logical expressions proposed in this paper is to find common subexpressions existing in various logical expressions and reduce the repetitive use. Finally, the goal is to minimize the number of literals used in all logical expressions. These previous studies failed to produce a common subexpression embedded in the logical expressions because they only use division principle. The proposed method uses cubes with a Hamming distance of 3 to find the common subexpression embedded between logical expressions. Experiments using benchmark circuits show that the proposed method reduces the number of literals by as much as 47% when comparing simplifications with other methods.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of different types of rehabilitation training program on the kinetic and kinematic parameters during sit-to-stand movement(STS) in chronic stroke patients. Two groups of hemiparetic patients, experimental and control, participated in the study. The experimental group participated in a 10-week training program (three sessions/wk, $1{\sim}1.5\;hr/session$) consisting of a warm-up, aerobic exercises, lower extremity strengthening. and a cool-down. The control group participated in an aerobic exercise. Three dimensional kinematic analysis and force platform; were used to analyze the duration of STS, lower extremity angle, and weight bearing ability. The experimental group which had more strength of lower extremity displayed decrease in duration of STS. However, the control group showed increases in duration during sit-to-stand movement. The control group flexed their trunk more than the group did Therefore, it took more time to extend their trunk during STS. The duration in sit-to-stand was affected by the strength of lower extremity and the angle of trunk movement. The angles of ankle and knee joint had an influenced on duration of STS. The post experimental group performed with their feet near the front leg of the chair during sit-to-stand, therefore the duration was decreased. The repetitive sit-to-stand movements as a resistance exercise was effective to hemiparetic patients in learning mechanism of sit-to-stand. The control group showed decreased differences in the vertical ground reaction forces between paretic and non-paretic limbs. Their training program included strengthening exercise that may help improving weight bearing ability. The control group showed increases in the center of pressure in the anteroposterior and mediolateral displacement. This means that the stability of movement was low in the control group. Their training program which combined aerobic and strengthening exercises that are more effective to improve the stability of movement.

  • Objective: In this study, two types of foot-controlled mouse devices are compared with a hand mouse in the input tasks requiring repetitively switching between a keyboard and a mouse. Background: Foot-controlled mouse devices have been developed for persons with impairments in the mobility of their hands. However, some researchers insisted that the foot-controlled mouse devices could be effectively used by the persons with no limits to their hand mobility. There are needs to investigate the efficiency of the foot-controlled mouse devices, when they are used by the nondisabled people. Method: Participants conducted the input tasks, requiring repetitive switches between a keyboard and a computer mouse. The used computer mouse devices were two types of foot-controlled mouse and a typical hand mouse. Participants performed three types of input task for five days and three types of task performance were measured; the number of completed input tasks within a given practice time, subjective satisfaction level and the time wasted for the mouse control. Results: For five days, the performance of input tasks sharply increased in input tasks by foot-controlled mouse devices rather than a hand mouse. After five days, the level of satisfaction on the foot-controlled mouse devices approached to about 76% of a hand mouse satisfaction level. The control time of the foot-controlled mouse devices also approached to about 109% of a hand mouse control time. Conclusion: After only five-day practice, the input task performance by foot-controlled mouse devices approached to that of a hand mouse. This result may suggest that the foot-controlled mouse devices can be effectively used as an alternative input device for the nondisabled people, if input tasks are easy and enough practice time is provided. Application: The results of this study might help to design foot-controlled mouse devices and to expend the usage of them.

  • This study evaluated soccer-specific fitness early and late season to check the conditioning status of K3 league soccer players. Evaluation factors included body composition, agility, quickness, endurance and isokinetic limb muscle strength. As a result, the factors that showed improvement in the late season were skeletal muscle mass, agility and quickness, and body composition, endurance and isokinetic limb muscle strength were not different from each other. The factors that showed improvement in the second half of the season are thought to be due to the learning effect of repetitive training, competition participation during the season. Lastly, endurance and lower extremity strength did not show improvement in the second half of the season due to the fact that no specific training was performed during the season. Taken together, it is necessary to periodically check the fitness status of athletes to develop and apply a fitness training program suitable for competition, transition and preparation period.

  • This paper introduces a postprocessing method, an iteration method for melody, and an average neural network method for learning a large number of songs in order to improve musically insufficient parts in automatic composition using existing artificial neural network. The melody of songs composed by artificial neural networks is produced according to the melodies of trained songs, so it can not be a specific tonality and it is difficult to have a repetitive composition. In order to solve these problems, we propose a postprocessing method that converts the melody composed by artificial neural networks into a melody having a specific tonality according to music theory and an iteration method for melody by iteratively composing measure divisions of artificial neural networks. In addition, the existing training method of many songs has some disadvantages. To solve this problem, we adopt an average neural network that is made by averaging the weights of artificial neural networks trained each song. From some experiments, it was confirmed that the proposed method solves the existing problems.
