As a national enterprise has been expanded over and over, the worldwide energy consumption has been growing necessarily. Moreover, as recently energy spendings are on the increase in countries such as BRICs, it has resulted that a rise in the price of both oil and mineral resources and instability between supply and demand become serious issue in the world resources market. The recent high price of oil and mineral resources have a deep influence on economy and threaten energy security and even national prosperity of Korea. In addition to these, exhaustion of fossil fuels and the enhanced greenhouse effect which results from gases emitted as a result of fossil fuels has been in serious questions which occur a great deal of effort to secure clean energy resources all around the world. As it is considerably possible for Korea that the Kyoto protocol may come into effect on and after 2013, it is essential to require the technological development to promote energy efficiency as well as to develope safe and renewable energy resources. The wind energy technology which converts kinetic energy into electrical energy has been in the focus of the world's attention. In this study, two-dimensional numerical analyses were conducted to observe subsidence aspects of the sea bottom on differently applied loads and various ground conditions.

Many efforts will have to be made on securing the stable supply of the energy due to the worldwide trend of controlling the utilization fossil fuels inducing global climate change. Renewable portfolio standard enforced to power companies over 500 MW capacity from 2012. Tidal current energy is one of the most interesting renewable and clean energy resources that have been less exploited. Especially, Korea has worldwide outstanding tidal current energy resources and it is highly required to develop a tidal current energy conversion system(TECS) in coastal region. So, we examine a tidal in-stream energy using a numerical model and estimate a tidal current potential for commercialization of tidal current power plant in the sea of the Bunamgun-do. Available tidal energy resources is also analytically estimated using a tidal farm method and the annual energy production of an optimal TECS arrays will be calculated with taking into account interference of lateral and longitudinal spacing.

A seismic survey for gas hydrate have performed over the East sea by the KIGAM since 1997. General indicator of gas hydrate in seismic data is commonly inferred from the BSR(Bottom Simulating Reflector) that occurred parallel to the sea floor, amplitude decrease at the top of the BSR, amplitude blanking at the bottom of the BSR, decrease of the interval velocity and the reflection phase reversal at the BSR. In this paper we had analyzed optimum parameters of the field data to detect the 9as hydrate. Shot delay correction is applied 95ms, spherical divergence correction is applied velocity library 3, bandpass filter is applied 25-30-115-120Hz deconvolution operator length is applied 60ms, lag is 6ms and accurate velocity analysis NMO correction, stack is performed. Geobit 2.11.0 developed by the KIGAM was used for all data processing. Processing results say that the BSR occurred parallel to the sea floor were shown at 3,150m/s of two way travel time from the sea floor through shot point 5,000-5,610, and identified the interval velocity decrease around BSR and the reflection phase reversal corresponding to the reflection at the sea floor.
Gas hydrate has been paid attention to study for because: 1) it can be considered as a new energy resources; 2) one of reasons causing the instability of sea floor slope and 3) a factor to the climate change. Bottom simulating reflector (BSR) defined as seismic boundary between the gas hydrate and free gas zone has been considered as the most common evidence in the seismic reflection data for the gas hydrate exploration. BSR has several characteristics such as parallel to the sea bottom, high amplitude, reducing interval velocity between above and below BSR and reversing phase to the sea bottom. Moreover, instantaneous attribute properties such as amplitude envelop, instantaneous frequency, phase and first derivative of amplitude of seismic data from the complex analysis could be used to analyze properties of BSR those would be added to the certain properties of BSR in order to effectively find out the existence of BSR of the gas hydrate stability zone. The output of conventional seismic data processing for gas hydrate data set in Ulleung basin in the East sea of Korea will be used for complex analyses to indicate better BSR in the seismic reflection data. This result of this analysis implies that the BSR of the analyzed seismic profile is clearly located at the two ways time (TWT) of around 3.1 seconds.
5MW wind turbine is regarded as a promising system for offshore wind farms in the western sea of Korean. And the wind turbine is developed in many companies but not much information is known about it. In this study, aerodynamics and control characteristics depending on several control methods is reviewed on 5MW wind turbine, in which configuration data of the turbine are used from the previous study of NREL. For the calculations, GH_Bladed, which is certificated software by GL, is used and compared with data from FAST code of NREL. This study shows that how much power production, and aerodynamic performances and loads can be obtained with different controls in the operation of 5MW wind turbine, which is expected to be useful in the design of the wind turbine system.
Tidal power can use conventional technology to extract energy from the tides. It is usually best deployed in areas where there i s a high tical range which includes Western and Southern coastal areas in Korea. However, to extract tical energy, a barrage across an estuary or a bay is to be constructed that is now very hard due to severe environmental impact on local estuary. The recent technology of application of tidal stream provides a new window to extract power minimizing the adverse environmental impact Tidal stream technology which directly exploits these currents is relatively new but is presently generating considerable interest Turbine rotors can be used to extract energy from the flows. Prototype devices currently on test in the UK include the 300kW SeaFlow turbine. In this paper, the recent technology and research on ocean tical stream power are addressed

Korea is the urgent need to diversify the bio-energy raw materials because we have narrow area of land cultivated plants and lack the bio-mass resources. Using a resource-rich the marine environment enclosed on three sides by the sea. Through bio-energy production-technical and carbon dioxide reduction measures which will be a very effective alternative. Sustainable development about algae bio-energize industry through SSaM-GG(Smart, Shared and Mutual-Green, Growth) is expected. Algae has high carbon dioxide absorption factor, extracting oil from algae is thirty times much more than sunflower.

In this study, the wave power resources at the southern sea of Korea were estimated by using the hindcasted wave data of previous researches. The used data were wave heights, periods and directions which were hindcasted around the Korea peninsular from 1979 to 2003. The spatial resolution of the hindcasted data is $1/6^{\circ}$(about 18 km). In winter, the northwest monsoon increase the wave power, while the wave power around Korea peninsular is very small in spring. The maximum value of the annual mean wave power is about 13 kW/m at Gageo-do, Heuksan-do and western region of Jeju-do, while those at the southern sea of Korea is only 4 kW/m, which is relatively small. The wave power at Korean east sea is lower than that of Korean southern sea. We obtained the wave resources information, in a fine grid, at Gageo-do, Heuksan-do, and western sea of Jeju-do, by solving SWAN model with the boundary conditions of hindcasted wave data.
Jeollabuk-do has announced a future plan for the Saemangeum Wind Farm which includes the installation of fourteen wind turbines in a single line, located 500m back from the Saemangeum Seawall. It is anticipated as a positive effect that, for sea breeze blowing toward land, the average wind speed could be accelerated and the wind speed distribution could be uniformized by dint of the seawall, an upstream structure of the turbines. At the same time it is also anticipated as a negative effect that the strength of wind turbulence could be increased due to the flow separation generated at the back end of the seawall. According to the results of the computational fluid dynamics analysis of this paper, it has been observed that, at the 50m zone on the road surface located at the uppermost part of the Saemangeum Seawall, the average wind speed has been accelerated by approximately 6~7% and that wind shear has been decreased by 70%, but this positive effect disappears in the zone situated beyond the 100m from the back end of the seawall. It has also been observed that flow separation exists to a limited extent only below the bottom of the blade-sweeping circle and, furthermore, does not extend very far downstream of the wind. As a conclusion, it can be said that the seawall neither positively nor negatively affects the proposed Saemangeum Seawall Wind Farm layout.
This study investigates the wake effect of an island to develop the offshore wind farm. The main wind direction can be determined from the data processing of the QuikSCAT satellite data around the Wi-do island at south-west sea of the Korean peninsula. Computational fluid dynamics is adopted to analyze the wake effect. From this study the velocity defects due to the wake are revealed. In particular about 5% velocity defect is observed at 80m hub height from the sea surface.
