  • Pseudo-renal failure presents with renal failure characteristics, such as hypercreatininemia and hyperkalemia without a change in glomerular filtration rate or structure of the kidney. Pseudo-renal failure due to trauma is difficult to diagnose, because symptoms are non-specific and other factors may cause hypercreatininemia and hyperkalemia. In a trauma patient, especially one with pelvic injury, the abrupt elevation of potassium, blood urea nitrogen, and creatinine levels without previous medical history is a key feature in the diagnosis of urinary ascites. We report a case of pseudo-renal failure caused by intraperitoneal bladder rupture in a multiple trauma patient.

  • A 13-year-old, spayed female, Yorkshire terrier was presented with a history of vomiting and diarrhea. Radiographic and ultrasonographic studies suggested rupture of right renal cyst. Left kidney had increased cortical echogenecity with indistinct corticomedullary junction on sonogram. Unilateral nephroureterectomy of right kidney was performed. Histopathologic examination of the resected renal mass confirmed a renal cystadenocarcinoma. To the best of our knowledge, it is the first case report of renal cystadenocarcinoma in a small breed dog in Korea.

  • Excretory urography is a procedure where opacification of the kidneys, renal pelvic diverticula, ureters, and urinary bladder is a result of renal excretion of an intravenously administered iodinated contrast agent providing both anatomical and functional assessment. And ultrasonography is a non-invasive modality to evaluate the important anatomic information concerning the size, shape, and internal architecture of kidney even in the presence of impaired renal function or abdominal fluid. We describe four dogs with urological signs diagnosed with excretory urography and ultrasonography. Parients showed a variety of clinical signs including vomiting, hematuria, anorexia, abdominal pain, and abdominal distension. The hydronephrosis was diagnosed in case 1, 2, and 3 that had pelvic dilation, dilation of pelvic recesses, ureteral dilation. In case 3, proximal ureteral rupture was diagnosed with evidence of contrast media leakage was seen in proximal ureter. In case 4, the rupture of urinary bladder was diagnosed with leakage of contrast media through its ventral portion.

  • Voiding cystourethrography (VCUG) is a commonly performed diagnostic procedure for the evaluation of vesicoureteral reflux with urinary tract infection or congenital renal diseases in children. The procedure is relatively simple and cost-effective, and complications are very rare. The iatrogenic complication of VCUG range from discomfort, urinary tract infection to bacteremia, as well as bladder rupture. Bladder rupture is a rare complication of VCUG, and only a few cases were reported. Bladder rupture among healthy children during VCUG is an especially uncommon event. Bladder rupture associated with VCUG is usually more common in chronically unused bladders like chronic renal failure. Presented is a case of bladder rupture that occurred during a VCUG in a healthy 9-month-old infant, due to instilled action of dye by high pressure. This injury completely healed after 7 days of operation, and it was confirmed with a postoperative cystography. The patient's bladder volume, underlying disease, velocity of the contrast media instilled, catheter size, and styles of instillation are important factors to prevent bladder rupture during VCUG. Management of bladder rupture should be individualized, but the majority of infants are treated with the operation. In conclusion, bladder rupture is a rare complication, however, delicate attention is needed in order to prevent more dire situations.

  • The rupture of a renal artery aneurysm is a rare disease that is difficult to diagnose. Although we usually consider the appropriate treatment to be open laparotomy with aortic aneurysm surgery or stenting with graft insertion through intravascular intervention, thus far, there is no general consensus on the treatment protocol for renal artery aneurysm. Notably, ruptured renal artery aneurysm is a true critical emergency that may result in a fatal outcome. We are reporting two renal artery aneurysm patients who had ruptured and underwent emergency laparotomy.

  • A 3-year old female Poodle dog was presented with a history of anorexia, vomiting, abdominal pain and depression for 2 days. After physical and blood examination, excretory urogram(EU) and ultrasonography of the abjomen were conducted. On radiographs and ultrasonographs, dilation of diverticulum, sinus, proximal ureter of right kidney and mild dilation of left renal medullar were found. And there was some leakage of contrast agent in the proximal ureter area of right kidney. So this was diagnosed as a rupture of right proximal ureter. This dog was undertaken a surgery of nephrectomy of right kidney. On surgery, dilation of right kidney and hemorrhage, adhesion were found at the proximal ureter and some calculi were also found in the pelvis of right kidney. There were no complications after surgery.

  • Recently, the trauma patients have been markedly increasing due to the vast increase of traffic accident, industrial disaster, incidental accident and violence. The authors have analysed of 22 patients of thoracic injuries combined with abdominal injuries and summarized as follows. The ratio of male to female was 3.4:1 and their age distribution was from 5 years to 68 years and mean age was 34.4 years. The etiologies of injury were traffic accident, stab wound, fall down and violence. Associated injuries were fractures, bowel perforation, kidney rupture, head injury, liver laceration, spleen rupture and so forth. The modes of treatment were closed thoracostomy, repair of diaphragm, ruptured bowel repair, explo-thoracotomy, splenectomy, hepatic lobectomy in this order of frequency. The postoperative complications were atelectasis, wound infection, pneumonia, empyema, acute renal failure, respiratory failure and bleeding. The mortality rate was 13.6% [3/22 and the causes of death were respiratory failure 1 case, acute renal failure 1 case and hypovolemic shock 1 case.

  • An urinoma(uriniferous pseudocyst, pararenal pseudocyst) denotes an encapsulated collection of urine in the perirenal or paraureteral space. It was usually reported in relation to trauma and acquired obstructive uropathy but rarely reported in renal infection including renal candidiasis. The mechanism is believed due to rupture of fornix through weakened portion of suppurated kidney and pyelosinus backflow by increased intrapelvic pressure in obstructive uropathy and fungus ball obstruction. We report a case of urinoma in a premature as the first case in Korea which developed as a complication of renal candidiasis.
