We investigated the safety and efficacy of pemetrexed monotherapy in patients with lung adenocarcinoma and various renal conditions, including chronic kidney disease. We also analyzed whether baseline renal function affected progression-free survival (PFS). We retrospectively analyzed 71 patients who received maintenance-and second-line pemetrexed monotherapy. Patients were divided into two groups according to estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR): fair eGFR (>60 mL/min/1.73 m²) and lower eGFR (59 mL/min/1.73 m² or less). The safety and efficacy were evaluated for each group. Median ages were 73.2 years in the lower eGFR group (n=28) and 64.5 years in the fair eGFR group (n=43). Patients with a lower eGFR achieved a median PFS of 4.7 months, while the median PFS for patients with a fair eGFR was 2.7 months. The difference between the two groups was not statistically significant (P=0.075). Both groups showed treatment-related low-grade hematological and non-hematological adverse events. Pemetrexed monotherapy is safe and effective in patients with lung adenocarcinoma with a lower eGFR.

A 25-year-old female California sea lion (Zalophus californianus) died after a history of depression, loss of appetite, weakness and weight loss. At necropsy, multifocal to coalescing, tan to white, firm nodules, ranging from 0.5 to 3 cm in diameter were observed throughout both kidneys. Renal adenocarcinoma metastasis to the liver, spleen and small intestine was diagnosed based on gross and histopathological findings. To the best our knowledge, this is the first reported case in Korea, and understanding this case will support management and diagnosis of future cases of renal adenocarcinoma in California sea lions.

We have synthesized a novel platinum(II) coordination complex containing cis-1,2-diaminocyclohexane (DACH) as a carrier ligand and 1,3-dichloropropane (DCP) as a leaving group. A new series of [Pt(cis- DACH)(DCP)](PC) was evaluated for its cytotoxic activity on MKN-45 human gastric adenocarcinoma cells and normal primary cultured kidney cells. The new platinum complex has demonstrated high efficacy in the cytotoxicity against MKN-45/P, MKN-45/ADM and MKN-45/CDDP cell-lines. The cytotoxicity of PC against rabbit proximal renal tubular cells, human renal cortical cells and human renal cortical tissues, determined by MTT assay, the $[^3H]-thymidine$ uptake and glucose consumption tests, was found to be quite less than those of cisplatin. Based on these results, this novel platinum(II) coordination complex appears to be better for improving antitumor activities with low nephrotoxicity and is a valuable lead in the development of new, clinically available anticancer chemotherapeutic agents.

Most common metastatic tumors of the thyroid gland are squamous cell carcinoma of head and neck region, adenocarcinoma of breast and lung, malignant melanoma, and renal cell carcinoma of kidney in order of frequency. Metastasis from gastrointestinal tract to the thyroid gland rarely occurs. We experienced a case of fine needle aspiraton cytology of metastatic adenocarcinoma of both thyroid glands from the colon. Cytologic smears showed picket-fence like arrangement of nuclei of carcinoma cells and syncytial type of tissue fragments with acinar pattern on necrotic or mucoid background.

Rhabdoid tumor has been considered to be a rare subtype of Wilm's tumor with Rhabdomyoma features. Since rhabdoid tumor that developed in the kidney was described for the first time in 1989, it has been reported in the gastrointestinal tract, although this is rare. The appropriate treatment is radical resection, and the effect of adjuvant chemotherapy has not yet been reported on. The outcome of extra-renal rhabdoid tumor is different from renal rhabdoid tumor and the former shows a poor prognosis. Among extra-renal rhabdoid tumors, undifferentiated gastric adenocarcinoma with rhabdoid features is very rare and its prognosis is poor. A 63 years old male patient underwent total gastrectomy for a tumor that developed in the greater curvature of the gastric body and this was diagnosed as undifferentiated gastric adenocarcinoma with rhabdoid features, according to the histopathology. We experienced an undifferentiated gastric adenocarcinoma with rhabdoid features that was diagnosed by immunohistochemical staining and we report here on this case.

Mucinous adenocarcinoma of the kidney is an extremely rare cystic malignant tumor with a poor prognosis that occurs in the pelvicalyceal system. Pre-opeartive diagnosis is very difficult because the tumor's clinical and imaging features are nonspecific. Here we report a case of primary mucinous adenocarcinoma arising from the horseshoe kidney in a 69-year-old male, focusing on CT findings. The tumor was a complex cystic mass with irregular wall thickening, multifocal calcifications, and septa and progressed to pseudomyxoma peritonei postoperatively.

The use of cisplatin is limited by severe side effects such as renal toxicity. Our platinum-base drug discovery is aimed at developing drugs capable of diminishing toxicity and improving antitumor activity. We synthesized new Pt (II) complex analogue [Pt (cis-DACH)(DPPP)]. 2NO$_3$ (PC) containing cis-1,2-diaminocyclohexane as a carrier ligand and 1,3-bis(diphenylphosphino) propane as a leaving group. Furthermore, nitrate was added to improved the solubility. In this study, its structure was determined and its antitumor activity against SKOV-3 and NIH-OVCAR-3 human ovarian adenocarcinoma, and in vitro cytotoxicity was determined against primary cultured rabbit kidney proximal tubular and renal cortical cells of human kidney using colorimetric MTT assay. PC demonstrated acceptable antitumor activity against SKOV-3 and NIH-OVCAR-3 human ovarian adenocarcinoma and significant activity as compared with that of cisplatin. The toxicity of PC was found quite less than that of cisplatin using MTT and $^3$H-thymidine uptake tests in rabbit proximal tubular cells and human kidney cortical cells. PC was used for human cortical tissue in 7 weeks hitoculture by the glucose-consumption tests. We determined that the new platinum drug has lower nephrotoxicity than cisplatin. Based on these results, this novel platinum (II) complex compound (PC) represent a valuable lead in the development of a new anticancer chemotherapeutic agent capable of improving antitumor activity and low nephrotoxicity.

Objective: To study the incidence, types and distribution pattern of malignant tumors in renal transplant recipients at a single center in Pakistan. Materials and methods: This retrospective study was conducted at Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) and included all transplant patients on regular follow-up from November 1986 to December 2008. The original biopsy reports and case files of all patients who developed posttransplant malignancies were reviewed and relevant demographic, clinical, radiological, and histopathological data were retrieved and analyzed. SPSS version 10.0 was used for statistical analysis. Results: Over 22 years of study period, 1816 renal transplants were carried out at our center. Among these, 44 patients developed malignancies constituting an overall incidence rate of 2.4%. All patients in this study were males with a mean age of $34.9{\pm}9.5$ years (range: 9 to 60 years). The most common type of malignancy was lymphoma (27 patients, 61.4%), followed by Kaposi's sarcoma (11 patients, 25%) and skin malignancies (3 patients, 6.8%). One case each of adenocarcinoma of the gallbladder, acute myeloid leukemia (AML), conjunctival carcinoma-in-situ and seminoma were also diagnosed. Conclusion: Posttransplant malignancies occurring in our renal transplant recipients show different incidence rates and patterns as compared with western studies.
