Extracting primitives from imagery plays an important task in visual information processing since the primitives provide useful information about characteristics of the objects and patterns. The human visual system utilizes features without difficulty for image interpretation, scene analysis and object recognition. However, to extract and to analyze feature are difficult processing. The ultimate goal of digital image processing is to extract information and reconstruct objects automatically. The objective of this study is to develop robust method to achieve the goal of the image processing. In this study, an adaptive strategy was developed by implementing Gabor filters in order to extract feature information and to segment images. The Gabor filters are conceived as hypothetical structures of the retinal receptive fields in human vision system. Therefore, to develop a method which resembles the performance of human visual perception is possible using the Gabor filters. A method to compute appropriate parameters of the Gabor filters without human visual inspection is proposed. The entire framework is based on the theory of human visual perception. Digital images were used to evaluate the performance of the proposed strategy. The results show that the proposed adaptive approach improves performance of the Gabor filters for feature extraction and segmentation.

The appearance inspection of various electronic products and parts was executed by the eyesight of human. The appearance inspection is applied to the most electronic component of LCD Panel, flexible PCB and remote control. If the appearance of electronic products of small and minute size is inspected by the eyesight of human, we can't expect the stable inspection result because inspection result is changed by condition of physical and spirit of the checker. Therefore currently machine vision systems are used to many appearance inspection fields instead of inspection by human. The many problems of inspection by the checker are not occurred in machine vision circumstance. However, the inspection by automatic machine vision system is mainly influenced by illumination of workplace. In this paper, we propose a histogram transform method for improving accuracy of machine visual inspection.
The main object of this study was to prove the effectiveness of different merging methods by using the high resolution IRS(Indian Remote Sensing Satellite)-1C panchromatic data and the multispectral Landsat TM data. The five methods used to merging the information contents of each of the satellite data were the intensity-hue-saturation(IHS), principal component analysis(PCA), high pass filter(HPF), ratio enhancement method and look-up-table(LUT) procedures. Two measures are used to evaluate the merging method. These measures include visual inspection and comparisons of the mean, standard deviation and root mean square error between merged image and original image data values of each band. The ratio enhancement method was well preserved the spectral characteristics of the data. From visual inspection, PCA method provide the best result, HPF next, ratio enhancement, IHS and LUT method the worst for the preservation of spatial resolution.
When a doctor examines a patient in a hospital, the doctor directly checks the patient's condition and conducts a face-to-face diagnosis through dialogue with the patient. However, it is often difficult for doctors to directly treat patients. Recently, several types of telemedicine systems have been developed. However, the systems have lack of capabilities to observe heart disease, neck condition, skin condition, inside ear condition, etc. To solve this problem, in this paper, an interactive telemedicine robot system with autonomous driving in a room capable of visual examination and auscultation of patients is developed. The developed robot can be controlled remotely through the WebRTC platform to move toward the patient and check a patient's condition under the doctor's observation using the multi-joint robot arm. The video information, audio information, patient's heart sound, and other data obtained remotely from patients can be transmitted to a doctor through the web RTC platform. The developed system can be applied to the various places where doctors are not possible to attend.
The noise sources of a Hyperion image are mainly due to the atmospheric effects, the sensor's instrumental errors, and A/D conversion. Though uncalibrated, overlapping, and all deep water absorption bands generally are removed, there still exist noisy bands. The visual inspection for selecting clean and stable processing bands is a simple practice, but is a manual, inefficient, and subjective process. In this paper, we propose that the extrema ratio be used for noise estimation and unsupervised band selection. The extrema ratio was compared with existing SNR and entropy measures. First, Gaussian, salt and pepper, and Speckle noises were added to ALI (Advanced Land Imager) images with relatively low noises, and the relation of noise level and those measures was explored. Second, the unsupervised band selection was performed through the EM (Expectation-Maximization) algorithm of the measures which were extracted from a Hyperion images. The Hyperion data were classified into 5 categories according to the image quality by visual inspection, and used as the reference data. The experimental result showed that the extrema ratio could be used effectively for band selection of Hyperion images.

In the 21st century, the concept of remote design and manufacture is strongly required in manufacturing processes to reduce cost and time-to-market. The objective of this paper is the development of an internet-based dimensional verification system for reverse engineering. An inspection client can register measurement data at the developed web server. Collaborators related to the development of a new product can confirm geometrical form from measurement data, check dimensional information and mark up the important parts, as well as make a statement of their views through the Internet. The developed system is realized through the ActiveX-Server architecture. Functions of the dimensional verification module are constructed as ActiveX by using the visual C++ and OpenGL. The usefulness of the developed system is confirmed through a case study.
This paper focuses on automatic image registration between EO (Electro-Optical) and IR (InfraRed) satellite images with different spectral properties using block-based approach and simple preprocessing technique to enhance the performance of feature matching. If unpreprocessed EO and IR images from Kompsat-3A satellite were applied to local feature matching algorithms(Scale Invariant Feature Transform, Speed-Up Robust Feature, etc.), image registration algorithm generally failed because of few detected feature points or mismatched pairs despite of many detected feature points. In this paper, we proposed a new image registration method which improved the performance of feature matching with block-based registration process on 9-divided image and pre-processing technique based on adaptive histogram equalization. The proposed method showed better performance than without our proposed technique on visual inspection and I-RMSE. This study can be used for automatic image registration between various images acquired from different sensors.
The city of Khartoum, the capital of Sudan, was heavily damaged by the flood of the Nile in 2020. Classification using satellite images can define the damaged area and help emergency response. As Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) uses microwave that can penetrate cloud, it is suitable to use in the flood study. In this study, Random Forest classifier, one of the supervised classification algorithms, was applied to the flood event in Khartoum with various sizes of the training dataset and number of images using Sentinel-1 SAR. To create a training dataset, we used unsupervised classification and visual inspection. Firstly, Random Forest was performed by reducing the size of each class of the training dataset, but no notable difference was found. Next, we performed Random Forest with various number of images. Accuracy became better as the number of images in creased, but converged to a maximum value when the dataset covers the duration from flood to the completion of drainage.

With the advent of autonomous ships, it is emerging as one of the very important issues not only to operate with a minimum crew or unmanned ships, but also to secure the safety of ships to prevent marine accidents. On-site inspection of the hull is mainly performed by the inspector's visual inspection, and video information is recorded using a small camera if necessary. However, due to the shortage of inspection personnel, time and space constraints, and the pandemic situation, the necessity of introducing an automated inspection system using artificial intelligence and remote inspection is becoming more important. Furthermore, research on hardware and software that enables the automated inspection system to operate normally even under the harsh environmental conditions of a ship is absolutely necessary. For automated inspection systems, it is important to review artificial intelligence technologies and equipment that can perform a variety of hull failure detection and classification. To address this, it is important to classify the hull failure. Based on various guidelines and expert opinions, we divided them into 6 types(Crack, Corrosion, Pitting, Deformation, Indent, Others). It was decided to apply object detection technology to cracks of hull failure. After that, YOLOv5 was decided as an artificial intelligence model suitable for survey and a common hull crack dataset was trained. Based on the performance results, it aims to present the possibility of applying artificial intelligence in the field by determining and testing the equipment required for survey.

Structural supervision on the construction site has been performed based on visual inspection, which is highly labor-intensive and subjective. In this study, the remote technique was developed to improve the efficiency of the measurements on rebar spacing using a 360° camera and reconstructed 3D models. The proposed method was verified by measuring the spacings in reinforced concrete structure, where the twelve locations in the construction site (265 m2) were scanned within 20 seconds per location and a total of 15 minutes was taken. SLAM, consisting of SIFT, RANSAC, and General framework graph optimization algorithms, produces RGB-based 3D and 3D point cloud models, respectively. The minimum resolution of the 3D point cloud was 0.1mm while that of the RGB-based 3D model was 10 mm. Based on the results from both 3D models, the measurement error was from 10.8% to 0.3% in the 3D point cloud and from 28.4% to 3.1% in the RGB-based 3D model. The results demonstrate that the proposed method has great potential for remote structural supervision with respect to its accuracy and objectivity.
