This study aimed to investigate the change of humidity by city size in South Korea. Using daily mean relative humidity and water vapor pressure during the period of 1954~2011 for 14 weather stations in South Korea, the change of humidity by city size was analyzed. The change of relative humidity had a continuous decreasing trend for the period of 1954~2011. The decreasing trend in large city was bigger than these of rural one. The seasonal relative humidity was significantly changed in spring and winter. The change of water vapor pressure was rarely changed significance of the results by city size. It was not shown the result to constant trend by city size. There was a negative correlation between relative humidity and mean temperature. And change of relative humidity was correlated with city size. Moreover, there was not correlation between relative humidity and water vapor pressure by city size. The decreasing trend of relative humidity was similar to increasing trend of temperature by urbanization. However, there was not shown significant result of water vapor pressure.

When the relative humidity is measured with an aspirated psychrometer, three factors, which affect the measurement of relative humidity, are atmospheric pressure, the size of wet element and the wind velocity. This paper investigated the effects of the above three factors, and the computer code was developed in order to enhance the accuracy of the relative humidity measurement. As results, it is found that the relative humidity decreases by 6%RH with increasing atmospheric pressure from 650 mbar to 1100 mbar. It is found that the relative humidity drops down when the size of the wet element increases, though the effect of the size of the wet element is not significant. Finally, relative humidity increases with the increasing wind velocity. The difference between the psychrometic table in the present KS and the present results is about 2%RH maximum. As a conclusion, the three factors mentioned above should be considered in order to secure accurate measurement of relative humidity.
This study deals with the decision problem of sample size by the relative standard error of estimates derived from survey results in successive occasions. The population of the construction in business survey results is used to calculate quartile of the relative standard error of the 1,000 sample obtained from simple or stratified random sampling. The sample size at time t with a relative standard error of the point (t-1) in the successive occasions were calculated according to the sampling method. As a result, in terms of the sample size according to the size of the relative standard error of the (t-1), simple random sampling differs significantly from stratified sampling. In addition, we could see differences in sample size (depending on how the population is stratified) and that careful attention is required in the problem of sample size by the relative standard error of estimates derived from survey results in successive occasions.
In this study of age differences in the correct judgment of relative size and size comparison strategies, 114 three-, four-, and five-year-old children were asked to judge the relative size of 2 figures. Findings were that older children judged size comparison more correctly than younger children. The 5-year-old children used the strategy of superimposition more frequently than younger children, though children in all age groups most frequently used the strategy of one sided comparison with one side of each figure touching the other. The strategy in which one figure is put on top another with a general shape adjustment led most frequently to correct judgment of the relative size of 2 figures.
In this study, the atmospheric aerosol concentration measured at different relative humidity levels was analyzed. Using an optical particle counter, PM10 and PM2.5 concentration as well as particle size distribution were measured and the relation between these size resolved data and relative humidity was studied. The results showed that mass concentration increases as relative humidity increases. The comparison between PM1, PM2.5 and PM10 showed that the fine particles grow more than coarse particles as relative humidity increases. The results also showed that PM10-2.5 and relative humidity do not show close correlation, which means that the mass increase of PM10 at high relative humidity is mainly due to the growth of PM2.5.
The interactions between a granular pile and raft placed on top are investigated using the continuum approach. The compatibility of vertical and radial displacements along the pile - soil interface and of the vertical displacements along the raft - top of ground interfaces are satisfied. Results show that consideration of radial displacement compatibility does not influence the settlement response of or sharing of the applied load between the granular pile and the raft. The percentage load carried by the granular pile (GP) increases with the increase of its stiffness and decreases with the increase of the relative size of raft. The normal stresses at the raft - soil interface decrease with the increase of stiffness of GP and/or relative length of GP. The influences of GP stiffness and relative length of GP are found to be more for relatively large size of raft. The percentage of load transferred to the base of GP increases with the increase of relative size of raft.
Pollens are known to be an allergen. They penetrate human respiratory system, triggering a type of seasonal allergic rhinitis called pollen allergy (hey fever). The purpose of this study is to test two field-flow fractionation (FFF) techniques, gravitational FFF (GrFFF) and sedimentation FFF (SdFFF), for their applicability to sizecharacterization of micron-sized pollens. Both GrFFF and SdFFF are elution techniques, providing sequential elution of particles based on size. They allow the size distribution as well as the mean size of the sample to be determined from the elution time. In this study, GrFFF and SdFFF were used to determine the size distribution of Paper Mulberry and Bermuda Grass pollens. For the Paper Mulberry pollen, the mean size obtained by GrFFF is 12.7 μm, and agrees rather well with the OM data with the relative error of 8.0%. For the Bermuda Grass pollen, the mean size obtained by GrFFF is 32.6 μm with the relative error of 12.3%. The mean sizes determined by SdFFF are 12.4 (relative error = 10.1%) and 27.1 μm (relative error = 5.2%) for the Paper Mulberry and the Bermuda Grass pollen, respectively. Although SdFFF tends to yield more accurate size distribution due to lower band broadening under the field strength higher than 1 G, the sizes determined by GrFFF were not significantly different from those by SdFFF.

Sand is one of the essential materials used for social infrastructure construction such as embankment, landfill and backfill. It was known that mechanical properties and shear strength of sand are closely related to relative density. Therefore it is very important to determine accurate relative density. In this study, Portable Cone Penetration Tester (PCPT) was used to estimate the relative density and the internal friction angle of sand. PCPT cone-tip resistance ($q_c$) was measured changing the relative density of the two soil samples.Standard sand (JMJ) and Busan sand (BS). Also, a direct shear test was performed to investigate relationship between relative density and internal friction angle. The size and shape of soil particles were confirmed by using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). As a result, the log value of $q_c$ was linearly correlated with relative density and internal friction angle. In particular, the internal friction angle of BS sample was greater than that of JMJ, which was due to difference of the shape and mean size of particles. This result shows that it is important to determine the shape and size of particles as well as relative density to define mechanical property of sand. Through this study, it can be more effectively and conveniently to investigate relative density and shear strength of sand by using PCPT in situ.
Laboratory determination of strength and deformation behavior of clean sands and gravels has always been challenging due to the difficulty in obtaining their undisturbed samples. An alternative solution to this problem is to develop correlations between mechanical properties of cohesionless soils and their gradation characteristics. This study presents database of 3 natural sands with 11 varying particle size gradation curves to allow investigating relationships between mean particle size, maximum and minimum void ratio, relative density and shear strength of the test soils. Direct shear tests were performed at relative densities of 50, 75 and 95% to explore the effects of gradation and density on the angle of internal friction of the modeled sand samples. It is found that the mean grain size D50 bears good correlations with void ratio range (emax - emin) and peak angle of internal friction 𝜙'peak. The generated regression models are in good agreement with published literature and can be considered as reliable for natural sands in Pakistan. These empirical correlations can save considerable time and efforts involved in laboratory and field testing.
In this study, the characteristics of gas-water relative permeability curves in a single fractured-plate according to the various aperture size were analyzed by using the Hele-Shaw type glass plate model. The plate was made of glasses for the observation of the two-phase flow pattern, and seven cases were set up based on the aperture size in the range of field scale from 30 to $120\mum$. The experiment was conducted by steady-state method, and the water saturation was determined more accurately by the developed digital image process technique. The empirical equations of relative permeability to gas and water for single fractured-plate were correlated by using the aperture size which directly affects the two-phase flow pattern and critical saturation.
