The grandmother role may be an important support network for dual-earner families and become more saliency among those children who are living with their grandmothers than those who are not. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effects of family structure characteristics on children's solidarity with their grandmothers and grandmothers' effects on grandchildren's self-esteem. Questionnaire data were collected from 429 grandchildren in the fifth and sixth grades. The major findings showed that (1)Solidarity between grandmother and grandchild in dual-earner families was associated with living arrangement. (2)Children's self-esteem in dual-earner families was not related to living arrangements with their grandmother. (3)Factors predicting solidarity between grandmother and grandchild and the grandchild's self-esteem differed by living arrangement. Solidarity between grandmother and grandchild was explained by grandmother-mother relationships, health of grandmother, parent-children relationship and occupational status of father for children living with their grandmothers. For those children not living with their grandmothers, grandmother-mother relationship, the educational level of father, families' economic level, parent-child relationship and health of the grandmother were significant predictors of grandmother-grandchild solidarity. (4)The regression of predictor variables on self-esteem for children living with grandmother revealed that grandmother-grandchild solidarity was the most powerful predictor, followed by occupational status of father, the educational level of mother, economic status of the family and parent-child relationship. For those children who were not living with grandmothers, parent-child relationship, economic status of the family, grandmother-grandchild solidarity and the educational level of the mother were also significant factors in that order.
The purposes of this study were to identify sexual interest and adjustment in patients with spinal cord injury and to determine the factors that relate to sexual adjustment. A total of 134 persons in this study was the members of spinal cord injury organization and the impatients in rehabilitation unit between February and June 1999. Five questionnaires were answered concerning importance of life events, sexual concern, sexual adjustment, relationship with a sex partner, and depression. The collected data were analyzed by Frequency, t-test, ANOVA and pearson correlation. The results were as follows : 1) Considering the importance among 11 areas of life, economic status occupied the top, sex life held the sixth rank, and the mean rating for social life being 3.78 was the lowest of all. 2) As regard to 7 topics related to sexuality, the most attention was drawn to methods and techniques achieving sexual satisfaction, and the next interest was for helping partners cope emotionally with sexual dysfunction. 3) The mean for sexual adjustment and depression was average, and the mean for sex partner relationship was high. 4) Sexual adjustment in spinal cord injury patients correlated with economic status and sex partner relationship. While It was inversely correlated with age and depression. It was found that lower age and less depression play a positive role on sexual adjustment by SCI people. Also, higher economic status and favorable sex partner relationship increase sexual adjustment. In conclusion, a sex partner relationship, depression, economic status, and age seemed to influence on their sexual adjustment after SCI. Also, psychosocial factors would be more important for satisfying sexual life and relation ship rather than physical factors.
This study was carried out to investigate the relationship between social support, social network and health behaviors as surveyed by cross-sectional study in 744 rural people aged above 30 of a community dwelling sample of one county for 6 days of July in 2000. Objectives of this study was in order to establish an effective health promotion. The sample was accrued by face to face interview of direct visiting from clustered sampling method. Interview was conducted by trained medical students with the questionnaire consisted of socio-demographic data, health behavior, social support and social network based on previous literature. The summarized results were as follows: 1. There were significant difference in the level of social support and social network by general characteristic variables except occupation and residency type(p〈0.05). 2. There were significant difference in knowledge about hypertension, smoking status, status of physical exercise, diet patterns by social support and social network in spite of variation of social support and social network subconcept(p〈0.05). And there were significant difference in alcohol drinking status, body weight control and diet pattern according to level of social network(p〈0.05). But smoking status by social support and network results opposite direction(p〈0.05). 3. There were no regular or consistent result in the relationship between social support, social network and health behavior. 4. Major predictors for health behavior on the multiple logistic regression that included general characteristic, social support and social network were age, instrumental social support and worry about health. Significant variables of multiple logistic regression for health behavior that included social support(instrumental and emotional) and social network were instrumental social support and social network. These results suggest that only a instrumental element and social network may be associated with health behavior. Inconsistent with prior research in these some item, a positive consistent relationship was not found between social support, social network and health behavior. So the study should be replicated to determined the reliability of our findings.

Purpose: This study was conducted to identify the relationship between climacteric symptoms and sexual satisfaction in middle-aged women. Method: Self-selection was used to recruit, for the study, 272 middle-aged women between 40 and 59 years of age from 2 metropolitan areas and 2 provinces in Korea. The questionnaire included information on demographic characteristics, climacteric symptoms and sexual satisfaction. Result: The results are as follows: 1. The mean/item climacteric symptom score was 1.91 and the mean sexual satisfaction score was 38.19.2. Climacteric symptoms were significantly influenced by age, education, economic status, frequency of abortions and menopausal status. Sexual satisfaction was influenced significantly by age, education, economic status and menopausal status. 3. There was a significant negative correlation between climacteric symptoms and sexual satisfaction (r=-.24, p =.0002). Conclusion: Sexuality should be considered when developing nursing strategies for middle-aged women, especially when dealing with climacteric symptoms.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between Korean lifestyle characteristics and health status and to identify the variables influencing health in Korea. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive correlational design was used to explore the lifestyle characteristics and health status of 397 Korean adults. Correlational analysis calculated the correlation between lifestyle and health status. To examine the relationship among demographic characteristics, lifestyle, and health status we used the t-test and one-way ANOVA. Stepwise multiple regression was conducted to examine the significant predictors of general health among subjects. Results: Positive correlations were seen between general health (GH) and the overall score and subscales of the Lifestyle. The stepwise regression model showed that vitality (VA), body pain (BP), nutrition, and occupation were significant variables influencing general health (GH). Conclusions: These findings provide evidence regarding the lifestyle patterns and healthstatus among Koreans. When planning intervention strategies for this population, exercise and physical activity should be principal focus areas.
This study examined the relationship of children's quality of friendship, conflict resolution strategies, and conflict outcomes by peer status. Thirty-four elementary school 5th grade dyads were selected by peer status and friendship status. The major results were that (1) popular children perceived more help and less conflict and rivalry from friends than rejected children. (2) Popular children used more compromising/integrating and less dominating strategies than rejected children to resolve conflicts. Conflicts between popular-average pairs resulted in equal outcomes more often and unresolved outcomes less often than rejected-average pairs. (3) There were significant correlations between friendship quality, conflict resolution strategies, and conflict outcomes by peer status.
The purpose of this study was to analysis know the important oral environmental factors which affect halitosis components of the adult in order to provide basic data for halitosis prevention and establish a device to eliminate halitosis efficiently. The 97 adults who visited at the Dental Clinic in Metropolis (M=68, F=30) participated in this study that performed from March in 2009 to in 2010. The obtained results through items as caries status, periodontal status, salivary flow, the viscosity, pH, Snyder test, plaque deposit, tongue plaque and halitosis check were as followings. The average shame of halitosis components appeared at hydrogen sulfide 36.71 ppb methyl mercaptan 31.46ppb dimethyl sulfide 54.33 ppb and Ammonia 22.60 ppm. The normality and the detection comparative result dimethyl sulfide above reverse appeared highly at 46.9%, ammonia appeared highly at 52%. According to the Hydrogen sulfide level was a high relationship among age, CPI, tongue coat status, DMFT index which were statistically significant (p<0.05). According to the quantity of hydrogen sulfide level there was relationship where tongue coat status Saliva flow rate considers statistically(p<0.05). The quantity of methyl mercaptan level there was relationship where Dimethyl sulfide level, tongue coat status, Saliva flow rate considers statistically(p<0.05). The quantity of Dimethyl sulfide level there was relationship where Hydrogen sulfide level, ammonia level, tongue coat status, Saliva pH and Saliva flow rate considers statistically(p<0.05). Ammonia level there was relationship where Methyl mercaptan level, CPI, and Saliva flow rate considers statistically(p<0.05).
This study examined the effects of the economic activity status on the mental health of middle and older adults. In terms of mental health, a theoretical model was used to evaluate the mediating role of the income level and the satisfaction in family relationship. Using data from Korean Longitudinal Study of Ageing, job seekers and those who had never worked before were excluded and employees and retirees (over 45 years old) who have both a spouse and children were selected for the analysis. The variables were the economic activity status, the income level, the satisfaction in family relationship, and the mental health. The results show that the number of employed middle and older adults were higher than that of retirees, and the satisfaction in family relationship were generally high. In terms of mental health, the level of happiness was high, while the level of depression was low. Also, the pathway analysis of the effect of the economic activity status on the mental health shows that the economic activity status directly affects the mental health and gives indirect effects through the medium of the income level and the satisfaction in family relationship.
Purpose: This study was conducted to characterize the influence of achievement motivation and the parent-child relationship on ego identity in Korean nursing students. Methods: The participants were 217 Korean nursing students in the first and fourth year of university. Data were collected through self-report questionnaires composed of items assessing ego identity, achievement motivation, the parent-child relationship, and demographic characteristics. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, one-way analysis of variance, the $x^2$ test, and multinomial logistic regression analysis. Results: Ego identity was related to achievement motivation; moreover, the achievement motivation of students with moratorium and achieved identity status was significantly higher than that of students with low-profile moratorium and diffused identity statuses. Ego identity was not related to the mother-child relationship, but the father-child relationship of students in foreclosure was significantly higher than that of students with diffused identity status. The factors influencing achieved identity compared to diffused identity were achievement motivation, year in school, satisfaction with school, and having religious beliefs. Conclusion: These findings indicate that nursing students' ego identity attainment was more influenced by achievement motivation than by the parent-child relationship. It emphasizes that highly motivated students can develop their own identities regardless of the parent-child relationship.
