The purpose of this research is to study the nonlinear free vibration and post-buckling analysis of functionally graded carbon nanotube reinforced composite (FG-CNTRC) beams resting on a nonlinear elastic foundation. Uniformly and functionally graded distributions of single walled carbon nanotubes as reinforcing phase are considered in the polymeric matrix. The modified form of rule of mixture is used to estimate the material properties of CNTRC beams. The governing equations are derived employing Euler-Bernoulli beam theory along with energy method and Hamilton's principle. Applying von $K\acute{a}rm\acute{a}n's$ strain-displacement assumptions, the geometric nonlinearity is taken into consideration. The developed governing equations with quadratic and cubic nonlinearities are solved using variational iteration method (VIM) and the analytical expressions and numerical results are obtained for vibration and stability analysis of nanocomposite beams. The presented comparative results are indicative for the reliability, accuracy and fast convergence rate of the solution. Eventually, the effects of different parameters, such as foundation stiffness, volume fraction and distributions of carbon nanotubes, slenderness ratio, vibration amplitude, coefficients of elastic foundation and boundary conditions on the nonlinear frequencies, vibration response and post-buckling loads of FG-CNTRC beams are examined. The developed analytical solution provides direct insight into parametric studies of particular parameters of the problem.

Steel reinforced Engineered Cementitious Composite (ECC) components have been proposed for seismic structural applications, for example in coupling beams, infill panels, joints, columns, and flexural members. The development of strain in the steel reinforcement of cementitious components has been shown to vary based on both the steel reinforcement ratio and the applied deformation history. Strain in the steel reinforcement of reinforced ECC components is an important structural response metric because ultimate failure is often by fracture of the steel reinforcement. A recently proposed bond-slip model has been successfully calibrated to cyclically tested reinforced ECC beams wherein the deformation history contained monotonically increasing cycles. This paper reports simulations of two-dimensional finite element models of reinforced ECC beams to determine the appropriateness and significance of altering a phenomenological bond-slip model based on the applied deformation history. The numerical simulations with various values of post-peak bond-slip softening stiffness are compared to experimental results. Varying the post-peak bond-slip softening stiffness had little effect on the cracking patterns and hysteretic response of the reinforced ECC flexural models tested, which consisted of two different steel reinforcement ratios subjected to two different deformation histories. Varying the post-peak bond-slip softening stiffness did, however, affect the magnitude of strain and the length of reinforcing bar that strain-hardened. Overall, a numerical model with a constant bond-slip model represented well various responses in reinforced ECC beams with multiple steel reinforcement ratios subjected to different deformation histories.
Along the subduction-zone of the western Japanese islands, large earthquakes are expected occur around the middle of this century, and long-period ground motions will reach major urban areas, shaking high-rise buildings violently. Since some old high-rise buildings were designed without considering long-period ground motions, reinforcing such buildings is an important issue. An effective method to reinforce existing high-rise buildings is installing additional dampers. However, a problem with ordinary dampers is that they require reinforcement of surrounding columns and girders to support large reaction forces generated during earthquake ground motion. To solve this problem, a deformation-dependent oil damper was developed. The most attractive feature of this damper is to reduce the damping force at the moment when the frame deformation comes close to its maximum value. Due to this feature, the reinforcement of columns, girders, and foundations are no longer required. The authors applied seismic retrofitting with a deformation-dependent oil damper to an existing 54-story office building (Shinjuku Center Building) located in Shinjuku ward, Tokyo, in 2009 to suppress vibration under the long period earthquake ground motions. The seismic responses were observed in the 2011 Tohoku Earthquake, and it is clarified that the damping ratio was higher and the response lower by 20% as compared to the building without dampers.

Reinforced concrete rahmen structures has been required ductility as well as strength of beam-column joint in seismically hazard area. Some investigations have been presented for retrofitting and/or strengthening structural elements in structure. Strain-hardening cementitious composite(SHCC) has been expected excellent reinforcement performance in beam-column joint area. The properties of reinforcing fiber, as tensile strength, aspect ratio and elastic moudulus, have great effect on the fracture behavior of SHCC. The purpose of this experimental study is to evaluate structural performance of exterior reinforced concrete beam-column joint strengthened with SHCC under cyclic loading.
The surface of commercial alumina fibers used for reinforcing the MCFC matrix has been coated with ${\gamma}$-LiAlO2 being the same material as the matrix, by the sol-gel method in order to enhance the corrosion resistivity of alumina fibers. Stable LiAlO2 complex polymeric sols for coating was synthesized by mixing aluminum alkoxide polymeric sols with LiNO3 solution. It was found that the LiAlO2 polymeric sol prepared by adding the mixed chelate of acethylacetone and triethanolamine (the mole ratio of AA/TEA = 0.125/0.75) to the 1 mole of the aluminum alkoxide had the excellent stability and coating behavior. The crystalline structure of the dried gel from the ${\gamma}$-LiAlO2 sol was completely transformed into the ${\gamma}$-LiAlO2 at $600^{\circ}C$. The optimum viscosity of the sol for coating the alumina long fibers was 30~40 cP, while it was 12~20 cP in case of the short fiber coating. The ${\gamma}$-LiAlO2 coated alumina fibers without defects fully densified when heat-treated at 120$0^{\circ}C$.
Rubber reinforcing carbon black N330 was treated by physical activation under $CO_2$ to different degrees of burn-off. The mechanical properties indicating the reinforcement of SBR (Styrene-Butadiene Rubber) vulcanizates filled by activated carbon blacks, such as tensile strength, modulus at 300% strain and elongation at break were determined. During $CO_2$ activation of fresh carbon blacks, the development of microporous structure caused an increase of extremely large specific surface area and the porosity turned out to be an increasing function of the degree of burn-off. The tensile strength and modulus at 300% of activated carbon blacks filled rubber composites were improved at lower loading ratios of 20 and 30 phr, but decreased drastically after 30 phr, which is considered that it might be difficult to get a fully dispersed rubber mixture at higher loading ratios for fillers having very large specific surface areas. However, the Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) shielding effectiveness of SBR rubber composites having activated carbon black at 74% yield were improved at a large extent when compared to those having raw carbon black and increased significantly as a function of increasing loading ratio.

In order to investigate the effect of the height of application point of lateral loads and reinforcing steel bars in walls and columns in improving the seismic behavior of confined concrete block masonry walls, an experimental research program is conducted. A total of twelve one-half scale specimens are tested under repeated lateral loads. Specimens are tested to failure with increasing maximum lateral drifts while a vertical axial load was applied and maintained constant. The specimens adopted are two-dimensional (2D) hollow concrete block masonry walls with different parameters such as shear span ratio, inflection point and percent of reinforcement in confining columns and walls. Test results obtained for each specimen include cracking patterns, load-deflection curve, and strains in reinforcement and walls in critical locations. Analysis of test data showed that above parameters generate a considerable effect on the seismic performance of confined concrete block masonry walls.
Agar-based composite films were prepared with variety of food processing and agricultural processing waste materials in order to screen natural lingo-cellulosic resources for the value-added utilization of the under-utilized materials. The effect of these waste materials (10 wt% based on agar) on mechanical properties, moisture content (MC), water vapor permeability (WVP), water absorption behavior of biocomposite films were investigated. Biocomposite films prepared with various fibers resulted in significant increase or decrease in color and percent transmittance. The MC, WVP, and surface hydrophobicity of biocomposite films increased significantly by incorporation of fibers, while the water uptake ratio and solubility of the film decreased. SEM images of biocomposite film showed better adhesion between the fiber and agar polymer. Among the tested cellulosic waste materials, rice wine waste, onion and garlic fibers were promising for the value-added utilization as a reinforcing material for the preparation of biocomposite food packaging films.

The seismic design regulations have not been applied to the low-rised buildings which are less than 6 stories in Korea. For these buildings which are designed only for gravity loads, theoretical formulas which can estimate the seismic strength of building are derived. The column hinge sway and beam hinge sway mechanism are assumed for the formulars. For the comparisons with the formulas, the results of push-over analyses of 3 and 4 storied buildings are used. It can be shown that the estimating formulas correspond well with the push-over analyses. And the seismic strength of building has a little relations with the number of bay and becomes larger as the building becomes lower. Also, as the ratio and strength of reinforcing steel increase, the seismic strength of building is increased.

The main target of this research is investigating the relations between mechanical properties and injection conditions, like injection pressure, packing pressure and packing time for various contents ratio of glass fiber and resin. In general idea, high injection pressure produces high strength of molded parts as a monotonic function. but it was revealed that high pressure does not make high strength directly through various experiments of injection molding. In this experiments, PA66 was selected as resin and Glass Fiber was selected as reinforcing fiber Fiber reinforcement was controlled, as 14%, 25%, 33%, 44% of total volume and packing pressure was divided 55%, 65%, 75%, 85% of reference pressure, i.e. 100% equal to 1400kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$. Finally, tensile testing was executed for injected test specimen. Optimum results based on authors' experiments have been obtained under conditions of 25% and 33% of glass fiber contents. Tensile strength rather depends on the packing pressure and packing time than injection pressure. Especially almost equal value of tensile strength was obtained for various percentage of packing and injection pressure as 65%, 75% and 85% of reference pressure.
