This paper investigates the seismic behavior of reinforced concrete shear wall buildings with multiple underground stories. A base-case where the buildings are modeled with a fixed condition at ground level is adopted, and then the number of basements is incrementally increased to evaluate changes in performance. Two subsurface site conditions, corresponding to very dense sands and medium dense sands, are used for the analysis. In addition, three ground shaking levels are used in the study. Results of the study indicated that while the common design practice of cropping the structure at the ground surface leads to conservative estimation of the base shear for taller and less rigid structures; it results in unpredicted and nonconservative trends for shorter and stiffer structures.

This study does by purpose that propose shear resisting force equation of reinforced masonry wall that is reinforced by GFRP(glass fiber reinforced polymer) based on result that is noted through cyclic loading of masonry wall and a shaking table experiment of mock that reflect identifying marks of masonry building which is constructed in domestic. It was Rocking mode to dominate failure of masonry wall in the experiment results, and the equations of UBC show the most resemblant value with experiment results. Through this study, propose the shear force equation of GFRP strengthened masonry wall as following. $$V_n=0.02A_n{\sqrt{f'_m}}+0.022b_gh_g(1+2{\alpha})^3{\sqrt{f_g}}(N/mm^2)$$.

As a fundamental study to develop the retaining wall of new type, short-fibers are mixed with soils and a series of compaction tests and triaxial compression tests for short-fiber reinforced soils are performed. From the results of compaction tests, optimum moisture content is increased and maximum dry unit weight is decreased with fiber mixing ratio. When 60mm fibrillated fiber of 0.2$\%$ mixing ratio is added to SM soil, strength increment of short-fiber reinforced soil is above 1.2 times compared to soil only. Strength increment shows maximum value for composite reinforced soil, namely, soil+short-fiber+planar reinforcement. But in case of mixing with ML soil and short-fiber, the strength of short-fiber reinforced soil is nearly the same as soil only. Internal angle of short-fiber reinforced soil is increased about $2\~3$ degrees and cohesion is also increased above 10kPa compared to soil only. Therefore, it is judged that short-fiber is a good material to strengthen the soil.
One of the most popular and commonly used strengthening techniques to protect against earthquakes is to infill the holes in reinforced concrete (RC) frames with fully reinforced concrete infills. In some cases, windows and door openings are left inside infill walls for architectural or functional reasons during the strengthening of reinforced concrete-framed buildings. However, the seismic performance of multistory, multibay, reinforced concrete frames that are strengthened by reinforced concrete wing walls is not well known. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the experimental behavior of vulnerable multistory, multibay, reinforced concrete frames that were strengthened by introducing wing walls under a lateral load. For this purpose, three 2-story, 2-bay, 1/3-scale test specimens were constructed and tested under reversed cyclic lateral loading. The total shear wall (including the column and wing walls) length and the location of the bent beam bars were the main parameters of the experimental study. According to the test results, the addition of wing walls to reinforced concrete frames provided significantly higher ultimate lateral load strength and higher initial stiffness than the bare frames did. While the total shear wall length was increased, the lateral load carrying capacity and stiffness increased significantly.

Recently, a concern to verify the displacement capacity of shear wall has been arised to produce suitable data for the performance based design. In this paper, a process is presented In evaluate the displacement capacity of shear wall. The displacement of shear wall is expressed as the superpositopn of shear and flexural deformation. Variable crack angle truss model with a modification and existing analysis program(XTRACT) are used in calculating shear and flexural displacement, respectively. The accuracy of proposed method is evaluated by the comparison calculation results with previous test results. From the comparison, it was shown that the displacement capacity of shear wall could be well predicted by using the process.

The objective of this study is to investigate the seismic response of high-rise RC bearing-wall structures with irregularity. For this purpose, three 1:12 scale 17-story reinforced concrete model structures were constructed according to the similitude law, in which the upper 15 stories have a bearing-wall system while the lower 2-story frames have three different layouts of the plan : The first one is a moment-resisting frame system, the second has a infilled shear wall with symmetric plan and the third has a infilled shear wall with eccentricity, Then, these models were subjected to a series of earthquake excitations. The test results show the followings: 1) the existence of shear wall reduced greatly shear deformation at the piloti frame, but has almost the negligible effect on the reduction of the overturning-moment angle, 2) the frame with shear wall resists most of overturning moment in severe earthquake, 3) the torsional behavior is almost independent of the translational, 4) the absorbed energy due to the overturning deformation has the largest portion in the total absorbed energy.
The study is part of an experimental program on full-scale Un-Reinforced Masonry (URM) wall panels strengthened with Textile reinforced mortars (TRM). Eight brick walls (two with and five without central opening), were tested under the diagonal tension (shear) test method in order to investigate the strengthening system effectiveness on the in-plane behaviour of the walls. All the URM panels consist of the innovative components, named "Orthoblock K300 bricks" with vertical holes and a thin layer mortar. Both of them have great capacity and easy application and can be constructed much more rapidly than the traditional bricks and mortars, increasing productivity, as well as the compressive strength of the masonry walls. Several parameters pertaining to the in-plane shear behaviour of the retrofitted panels were investigated, including shear capacity, failure modes, the number of layers of the external TRM jacket, and the existence of the central opening of the wall. For both the control and retrofitted panels, the experimental shear capacity and failure mode were compared with the predictions of existing prediction models (ACI 2013, TA 2000, Triantafillou 1998, Triantafillou 2016, CNR 2018, CNR 2013, Eurocode 6, Eurocode 8, Thomoglou et al. 2020). The experimental work allowed an evaluation of the shear performance in the case of the bidirectional textile (TRM) system applied on the URM walls. The results have shown that some analytical models present a better accuracy in predicting the shear resistance of all the strengthened masonry walls with TRM systems which can be used in design guidelines for reliable predictions.
The concept of the seismic slit shear wall was proposed in the early 1990's. A series of experimental and theoretic studies on the wall with reinforced concrete short connecting beams cast in the slit were carried out. In this paper another type of slit shear wall is studied. It is one with vertical slit purposely cast within the wall, and the rubber belt penetrated by a part of web shear reinforcement as seismic energy-dissipation device is filled in the slit. Firstly, an experiment under cyclic loading was carried out on two shear wall models, one slit and the other solid. The failure mechanism and energy-dissipation capacity are compared between the two different models, which testifies the seismic performance of the slit wall improved significantly. Secondly, for engineering practice purpose, a macroscopic analytical model is developed to predict the nonlinear behavior of the slit shear wall under cyclic loading. The mechanical properties of each constituent elements of this model are based on the actual behavior of the materials. Furthermore, the effects of both the axial force and bending moment on the shear behavior are taken into account with the aid of the modified compression-field theory. The numerical results are verified to be in close agreement with the experimental measurements.
In this study, fiber elements and a spring are used to build a reinforced concrete shear wall model. The fiber elements and the spring reflect flexural and shear behaviors of the shear wall, respectively. The fiber elements are built by inputting section data and material properties. The spring parameters representing strength and stiffness degradation, pinching, and slip were determined by comparing behaviors of fiber element and VecTor2 results. 'Pinching4' model in OpenSees is used for shear spring. The parameter selecting process for shear spring is a complicated and time consuming process. To study the applicability of the fiber element, reinforced concrete buildings containing a shear wall are evaluated using nonlinear dynamic analysis with various wall aspect ratio (H/L), various beam heights, and stiffness and flexural strength of beam and wall ratios. The aspect ratio of the wall showed distinct difference in IDR (interstory drift ratio) of the models with and without spring. On the other hand, the height of beam and ratio of stiffness and flexural strength of beam and wall did not show clear relation.

The purpose of this study is to develop a new seismic resistant method by using precast concrete wall panels for existing low-rise, reinforced concrete beam-column buildings such as school buildings. Three quasi-static hysteresis loading tests were experimentally performed on one unreinforced beam-column specimen and two reinforced specimens with L-type precast wall panels. The results were analyzed to find that the specimen with anchored connection experienced shear failure, while the other specimen with steel plate connection principally manifested flexural failure. The ultimate strength of the specimens was determined to be the weaker of the shear strength of top connection and flexural strength at the critical section of precast panel. In this setup of L-type panel specimens, if a push loading is applied to the reinforced concrete column on one side and push the precast concrete panel, a pull loading from upper shear connection is to be applied to the other side of the top shear connection of precast panel. Since the composite flexural behavior of the two members govern the total behavior during the push loading process, the ultimate horizontal resistance of this specimen was not directly influenced by shear strength at the top connection of precast panel. However, the RC column and PC wall panel member mainly exhibited non-composite behavior during the pull loading process. The ultimate horizontal resistance was directly influenced by the shear strength of top connection because the pull loading from the beam applied directly to the upper shear connection. The analytical result for the internal shear resistance at the connection pursuant to the anchor shear design of ACI 318M-11 Appendix-D except for the equation to predict the concrete breakout failure strength at the concrete side, principally agreed with the experimental result based on the elastic analysis of Midas-Zen by using the largest loading from experiment.
