  • The Hi-Art system for TomoTherapy allows only three (1.0 cm, 2.5 cm, 5.0 cm) field widths and this can produce different dose distribution around the end of PTV (Planning target volume) in the direction of jaw movement. In this study, we investigated the effect of field width on the dose difference around the PTV using DQA (Delivery quality assurance) phantom and real clinical patient cases. In the analysis with DQA phantom, the calculated dose and irradiated films showed that the more dose was widely spreaded out in the end region of PTV as increase of field width. The 2.5 cm field width showed a 1.6 cm wider dose profile and the 5.0 cm field width showed a 4.2 cm wider dose profile compared with the 1.0 cm field width in the region of 50% of maximum dose. The analysis with four patient cases also showed the similar results with the DQA phantom which means that more dose was irradiated around the superior and inferior end of PTV as an increase of field width. The 5.0 cm field width produced the remarkable high dose distribution around the end region of PTV and we could evaluate the effect quantitatively with the calculation of DVH (Dose volume histogram) of the virtual PTVs which were delineated around the end of PTV in the direction of jaw variation. From these results, we could verify that the margin for PTV in the direction of table movement should be reduced compared with the conventional margin for PTV when the large field such as 5.0 cm was used in TomoTherapy.

  • Purpose : The objective of this study is to introduce our installation of a non-commercial 3D Planning system, Plunc and confirm it's clinical applicability in various treatment situations. Materials and Methods : We obtained source codes of Plunc, offered by University of North Carolina and installed them on a Pentium Pro 200MHz (128MB RAM, Millenium VGA) with Linux operating system. To examine accuracy of dose distributions calculated by Plunc, we input beam data of 6MV Photon of our linear accelerator(Siemens MXE 6740) including tissue-maximum ratio, scatter-maximum ratio, attenuation coefficients and shapes of wedge filters. After then, we compared values of dose distributions(Percent depth dose; PDD, dose profiles with and without wedge filters, oblique incident beam, and dose distributions under air-gap) calculated by Plunc with measured values. Results : Plunc operated in almost real time except spending about 10 seconds in full volume dose distribution and dose-volume histogram(DVH) on the PC described above. As compared with measurements for irradiations of 90-cm 550 and 10-cm depth isocenter, the PDD curves calculated by Plunc did not exceed $1\%$ of inaccuracies except buildup region. For dose profiles with and without wedge filter, the calculated ones are accurate within $2\%$ except low-dose region outside irradiations where Plunc showed $5\%$ of dose reduction. For the oblique incident beam, it showed a good agreement except low dose region below $30\%$ of isocenter dose. In the case of dose distribution under air-gap, there was $5\%$ errors of the central-axis dose. Conclusion : By comparing photon dose calculations using the Plunc with measurements, we confirmed that Plunc showed acceptable accuracies about $2-5\%$ in typical treatment situations which was comparable to commercial planning systems using correction-based a1gorithms. Plunc does not have a function for electron beam planning up to the present. However, it is possible to implement electron dose calculation modules or more accurate photon dose calculation into the Plunc system. Plunc is shown to be useful to clear many limitations of 2D planning systems in clinics where a commercial 3D planning system is not available.

  • With the widespread use of vision-based surveillance systems, the capability for person identification is now an essential component. However, the CCTV cameras used in surveillance systems tend to produce relatively low-resolution images, making it difficult to use face recognition techniques for person identification. Therefore, an algorithm is proposed for person identification in CCTV camera images based on the clothing. Whenever a person is authenticated at the main entrance of a building, the clothing feature of that person is extracted and added to the database. Using a given image, the clothing area is detected using background subtraction and skin color detection techniques. The clothing feature vector is then composed of textural and color features of the clothing region, where the textural feature is extracted based on a local edge histogram, while the color feature is extracted using octree-based quantization of a color map. When given a query image, the person can then be identified by finding the most similar clothing feature from the database, where the Euclidean distance is used as the similarity measure. Experimental results show an 80% success rate for person identification with the proposed algorithm, and only a 43% success rate when using face recognition.

  • The Human-Computer Interaction(HCI) is a study of the method for interaction between human and computers that merges the ergonomics and the information technology. The intelligent space, which is a part of the HCI, is an important area to provide effective user interface for the disabled, who are alienated from the information-oriented society. In the intelligent space for the disabled, the method supporting information depends on types of disability. In this paper, we only support the hearing-impaired. It is material to the gaze direction detection method because it is very efficient information provide method to present information on gazing direction point, except for the information provide location perception method through directly contact with the hearing-impaired. We proposed the gaze direction detection method must be necessary in order to provide the residence life application to the hearing-impaired like this. The proposed method detects the region of the user from multi-view camera images, generates candidates for directions of gaze for horizontal and vertical from each camera, and calculates the gaze direction of the user through the comparison with the size of each candidate. In experimental results, the proposed method showed high detection rate with gaze direction and foot sensing rate with user's position, and showed the performance possibility of the scenario for the disabled.

  • Purpose: Some recent literatures report that it is possible to recover defected areas caused by enucleation of relatively large jaw cysts without using bone grafts. The aim was to find out whether spontaneous recovery of defected area with time occurred and what the contributing factors were. Materials and methods: In total, 194 patients were considered as patients. Out of these 194 patients, 74 patients who had no wound dehiscence and who were available for follow-up studies were selected. They were classified into two groups according to the size of radiolucent area in the preoperative panoramic radiographs: in one group, it was larger than $3{\times}4cm$, while in the other group, it was smaller than $3{\times}4cm$. Follow-up panoramic radiographs were taken immediately after the surgery, then after 3, 6, 9 and 12 months. On those radiographs, changes in size and density of the defected areas were observed using the Gray-level histogram of Adobe photoshop v7.0. Correlation between bone regeneration and factors such as the type and size of the cysts, age, sex, site of the cysts and systemic disease was evaluated using the General repeated measure and Mann-Whitney Test. Results: Analyses of panoramic radiographs showed that the recovery of radiopacity after 12 months was more than 97% on average in defected areas that were smaller than $3{\times}4cm$. in the defected areas that were larger than $3{\times}4cm$, considerable portion showed recovery of radiopacity. No statistically significant change was observed in bone density according to the type of cysts. Young patients under 20 years of age with highly active metabolism presented more significant bone regeneration than patients over 20 years of age. Bone regeneration was more hampered in patients who had medical disease, compared with patients who didn’t have any medical problem. No statistically significant change was seen in bone density according to sex. Changes in bone density according to the site of cysts such as maxilla, mandible, anterior or posterior region were not considered to be significant. Conclusion: Analyses of panoramic radiographs suggest that in approximately 12 months after the enucleation of cysts, clinically acceptable spontaneous bone regeneration can be observed even though normal bone graft procedures have not been applied.

  • Thyroid nodular disease is the most frequently appeared in thyroid disease. Thyroid ultrasonography offers location of nodules, size, the number, information of internal echo characteristic. Thus, it makes possible to sort high-risk nodule containing high possibility about thyroid cancer and to induct precisely when take a Fine Needle Biopsy Aspiration. On thyroid nodule, the case which is diagnosed as malignant is less than 5% but screening test is very important on ultrasound and also must be reduced unnecessary procedure. Therefore, in this study an approach for describing a region is to quantity its texture content. We applied TFA algorithm on case which has been pathologically diagnosed as papillary thyroid cancer. we obtained experiment image which set the ROI on ultrasound and cut the $50{\times}50$ pixel size, histogram equalization. Consequently, Disease recognition detection efficiency of GLavg, SKEW, UN, ENT parameter were high as 91~100%. It is suggestion about possibility on CAD which distinguishes thyroid nodule. In addition, it will be helpful to differential diagnosis of thyroid nodule. If the study on additional parameter algorithm is continuously progressed from now on, it is able to arrange practical base on CAD and it is possible to apply various disease in the thyroid US.

  • Purpose of this study was a development of an image processing algorithm to recognize paprika and acquire it's 3D coordinates from stereo images to precisely control an end-effector of a paprika auto harvester. First, H and S threshold was set using HSI histogram analyze for extracting ROI(region of interest) from raw paprika cultivation images. Next, fundamental matrix of a stereo camera system was calculated to process matching between extracted ROI of corresponding images. Epipolar lines were acquired using F matrix, and $11{\times}11$ mask was used to compare pixels on the line. Distance between extracted corresponding points were calibrated using 3D coordinates of a calibration board. Non linear regression analyze was used to prove relation between each pixel disparity of corresponding points and depth(Z). Finally, the program could calculate horizontal(X), vertical(Y) directional coordinates using stereo camera's geometry. Horizontal directional coordinate's average error was 5.3mm, vertical was 18.8mm, depth was 5.4mm. Most of the error was occurred at 400~450mm of depth and distorted regions of image.

  • An important problem in radiosurgery is the utilization of the proper beam parameters, to which dose shape is sensitive. Streotactic radiosurgery techniques for a linear accelerator typically, use circular radiation fields with multiple arcs to produce an spherical radiation distribution. Target volumes are irregular in shape for a certain case, and spherical distributions can irradiate normal tissues to high dose as well as the target region. The current improvement to dose distribution utilizes treating multiple isocenters or weighting various arcs to change treatment volume shape. in this paper another promising study relies upon dynamically shaping the treatment beam to fit the beam's eye view of the target. This conformal irradiation technique was evaluated by means of visual three dimensional dose distribution, dose volume histograms to the target volume and surrounding normal brain. It is shown that using even less arcs than multiple isocenter irradiation technique, the conformal therapy yields comparable dose gradients and superior homogeneity of dose within the target volume.

  • This paper proposes a robust and computationally efficient algorithm for automatic video object segmentation. For implementing the spatio-temporal segmentation, which aims for efficient combination of the motion segmentation and the color segmentation, an SOM-based hierarchical clustering method in which the segmentation process is regarded as clustering of feature vectors is employed. As results, problems of high computational complexity which required for obtaining exact segmentation results in conventional video object segmentation methods, and the performance degradation due to noise are significantly reduced. A measure of motion vector reliability which employs MRF-based MAP estimation scheme has been introduced to minimize the influence from the motion estimation error. In addition, a noise elimination scheme based on the motion reliability histogram and a clustering validity index for automatically identifying the number of objects in the scene have been applied. A cross projection method for effective object tracking and a dynamic memory to maintain temporal coherency have been introduced as well. A set of experiments has been conducted over several video sequences to evaluate the proposed algorithm, and the efficiency in terms of computational complexity, robustness from noise, and higher segmentation accuracy of the proposed algorithm have been proved.

  • Pattern recognition is the study of how machines can observe the environment, learn to distinguish patterns of interest from their background, and make sound and reasonable decisions about the categories of the patterns. Color image consists of various color patterns. And most pattern recognition methods use the information of color which has been trained and extract the feature of the color. This thesis extracts adaptively specific color feature from images with several limited colors. Because the number of the color patterns is limited, the distribution of the color in the image is similar. But, when there are some noises and distortions in the image, its distribution can be various. Therefore we cannot extract specific color regions in the standard image that is well expressed in special color patterns to extract, and special color regions of the image to test. We suggest new method to reduce the error of recognition by extracting the specific color feature adaptively for images with the low distortion, and six test images with some degree of noises and distortion. We consequently found that proposed method shouws more accurate results than those of statistical pattern recognition.
