Number Region Extraction of License Plates Using Colors and Arrangement of Numbers (색상과 배치 정보를 이용한 번호판 숫자 영역 추출)

  • This paper proposes a plate number extraction method which uses the information of both the colors and the arrangement of numbers in a vehicle image with complex background. In a number plate, color of the numbers is usually black or white, and numbers are arranged in a row. At first, a raw image is partitioned into the plate number candidate regions and non-interest region. The number candidate regions are thresholded in mean binarization. After eliminating the illegal candidate regions using the aspect ratio of the plate number, the plate number region is finally extracted by using the arrangement information among the numbers. To evaluate the proposed mothed, 292 images are taken in various places and at different times. The experimental results show that the rate of the proposed number regions extraction is about 89.8%, 95.5% for the plate of green and white backgrounds, respectively.

Road Extraction from High Resolution Satellite Image Using Object-based Road Model (객체기반 도로모델을 이용한 고해상도 위성영상에서의 도로 추출)

  • The importance of acquisition of road information has recently been increased with a rapid growth of spatial-related services such as urban information system and location based service. This paper proposes an automatic road extraction method using object-based approach which was issued alternative of pixel-based method recently. Firstly, the spatial objects were created by MSRS(Modified Seeded Region Growing) method, and then the key road objects were extracted by using properties of objects such as their shape feature information and adjacency. The omitted road objects were also traced considering spatial correlation between extracted road and their neighboring objects. In the end, the final road region was extracted by connecting discontinuous road sections and improving road surfaces through their geometric properties. To assess the proposed method, quantitative analysis was carried out. From the experiments, the proposed method generally showed high road detection accuracy and had a great potential for the road extraction from high resolution satellite images.

  • River mining, the extraction of sand and gravel from riverbeds, is rising at an alarming rate to keep pace with the increasing demand for construction materials worldwide. The far-reaching deleterious effects of river mining include the lowering of water levels, the augmentation of turbidity, and the erosion of riverbanks, i.e., the disruption of water flow and alteration of river morphology. Aggregates demand, geolocation, and the economy of Bangladesh accelerated illegal extraction. However, limited research has been carried out in this region, despite the severe impact on aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. To address the corresponding consequences and direct the scope for further research, it is required to evaluate existing studies of other countries having similarities in river morphology, climate, economy, and other related parameters. In this respect, based on previous studies, the effects of sand extraction are particularly prominent in India, having 54 cross-boundary rivers with Bangladesh. The geological profile of numerous rivers in the past decades has been altered due to natural aggregate mining in the Indian subcontinent. Hence, this study focused on relevant research in this region. However, the existing research only focuses on the regional portion of the aforementioned international rivers, which lacks proper assessments of these rivers, taking into account especially the mining effects. Moreover, several global rivers that have similarities with Bangladeshi rivers, considering different parameters, are also included in this study. The findings of this article underline the pressing need for more efficacious measures to address the adverse effects of river mining and safeguard ecosystems and communities globally, especially in the Indian subcontinent, where the situation is particularly vulnerable. For this reason, targeting the aforementioned region, this review highlights the global evidence in assessing the future effects of river mining and the need for further research in this field.

AUTOMATIC ROAD NETWORK EXTRACTION. USING LIDAR RANGE AND INTENSITY DATA

  • Recently the necessity of road data is still being increased in industrial society, so there are many repairing and new constructions of roads at many areas. According to the development of government, city and region, the update and acquisition of road data for GIS (Geographical Information System) is very necessary. In this study, the fusion method with range data(3D Ground Coordinate System Data) and Intensity data in stand alone LiDAR data is used for road extraction and then digital image processing method is applicable. Up to date Intensity data of LiDAR is being studied. This study shows the possibility method for road extraction using Intensity data. Intensity and Range data are acquired at the same time. Therefore LiDAR does not have problems of multi-sensor data fusion method. Also the advantage of intensity data is already geocoded, same scale of real world and can make ortho-photo. Lastly, analysis of quantitative and quality is showed with extracted road image which compare with I: 1,000 digital map.

  • In this paper, we propose the robust features extraction method of human by using the skeleton model and hybrid silhouette model. The proposed feature extraction method is divided by hands, shoulder line and elbow region extraction. We use the peer's color information to find the position of hands and propose the circle detection method to extract the shoulder line and elbow. Finally, we show the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed method through some experiments.

Osteomyelitis of the Mandibular Coronoid Process Mimicking a Temporomandibular Joint Disorder: A Case Report

  • Osteomyelitis of the jaw is an inflammatory process of the bone marrow that is caused by odontogenic local infection and trauma such as tooth extraction and fractures in the oral and maxillofacial region. The clinical signs include pain, swelling, pus formation, and limited mouth opening. Chronic osteomyelitis presents a diagnostic challenge because of the variability of symptoms across different disease stages and varying health conditions of the patients. This report presents a case of osteomyelitis that was misdiagnosed as a temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD) after tooth extraction. The patient was treated for inflammation after tooth extraction in the early stage; however, as the osteomyelitis progressed chronically, symptoms mimicked those of a TMD. The patient was finally diagnosed with osteomyelitis 6 months after tooth extraction. A review of this case and relevant literature revealed the necessity for a differential diagnosis of chronic osteomyelitis that mimics TMD symptoms.

Design and Implementation of Eye-Gaze Estimation Algorithm based on Extraction of Eye Contour and Pupil Region (눈 윤곽선과 눈동자 영역 추출 기반 시선 추정 알고리즘의 설계 및 구현)

  • In this study, we design and implement an eye-gaze estimation system based on the extraction of eye contour and pupil region. In order to effectively extract the contour of the eye and region of pupil, the face candidate regions were extracted first. For the detection of face, YCbCr value range for normal Asian face color was defined by the pre-study of the Asian face images. The biggest skin color region was defined as a face candidate region and the eye regions were extracted by applying the contour and color feature analysis method to the upper 50% region of the face candidate region. The detected eye region was divided into three segments and the pupil pixels in each pupil segment were counted. The eye-gaze was determined into one of three directions, that is, left, center, and right, by the number of pupil pixels in three segments. In the experiments using 5,616 images of 20 test subjects, the eye-gaze was estimated with about 91 percent accuracy.

Segmentation of Liver Regions in the Abdominal CT Image by Multi-threshold and Watershed Algorithm

  • In this paper, we proposed a liver extracting procedure for computer aided liver diagnosis system. Extraction of liver region in an abdominal CT image is difficult due to interferences of other organs. For this reason, liver region is extracted in a region of interest(ROI). ROI is selected by the window which can measure the distribution of Hounsfield Unit(HU) value of liver region in an abdominal CT image. The distribution is measured by an existential probability of HU value of lever region in the window. If the probability of any window is over 50%, the center point of the window would be assigned to ROI. Actually, liver region is not clearly discerned from the adjacent organs like muscle, spleen, and pancreas in an abdominal CT image. Liver region is extracted by the watershed segmentation algorithm which is effective in this situation. Because it is very sensitive to the slight valiance of contrast, it generally produces over segmentation regions. Therefore these regions are required to merge into the significant regions for optimal segmentation. Finally, a liver region can be selected and extracted by prier information based on anatomic information.

Character Extraction Using Wavelet Transform and Fuzzy Clustering (웨이브렛 변환과 퍼지 군집화를 활용한 문자추출)

  • In this paper, a novel approach based on wavelet transform is proposed to process the scraped character which is represented on digital image. The basis idea is that the scraped character is described by its textured neighborhood, and it is decomposed into multiresolution features at different levels with its background region. The image is first decomposed into sub bands by applying Daubechies wavelets. Character features are extracted from the low frequency sub-bands by partition, FCM clustering and area-based region process. High frequency ones are activated by applying local energy density over a moving mask. Features are synthesized in order to reconstruct the original image state through inverse wavelet transform Background region is eliminated and character is extracted. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • MRI imaging is one of the imaging techniques showing anatomical structures of human body for medical diagnosis, and has been researched in order to provide better quality of anatomical information. In this study, we propose a very useful method to extract an interest areas and how to diagnose necrolysis of femoral neck disease automatically. Regions of femoral neck is set using anatomical features and Hough transform and advantages of both region extension and histogram-based region segmentation method are combined for better region segmentation. As a result of the proposed method, good imaging quality was obtained for femoral neck with both normal and severe necrosis as well as for femoral neck in early stage of necrolysis.
