  • This paper discribes an experimental explosion risk assessment study on refrigerators containing flammable hydrocarbon refrigerant. A refrigerator used in this study is a larder fridge type, 215 liter in volume. The hydrocarbon refrigerant used in the refrigerator is iso-butane(C$_4$H$_{10}$). For the explosion safety assessment of the refrigerator, temperature of compressor, cooling air circulation fan motor, defrost heater and inner lamp were measured during the operation. And to confirm the ignitablity of flammable gas by the electric spark of the switches of the refrigerator, ON-OFF test of all switches were conducted with compulsorily near the stoichiometric concentration atmosphere of iso-butane-air mixture. As the result of experiment above mentioned and another experiment for the explosion safety assessment, we can conclude that explosion hazard in connection with the use of hydrocarbon refrigerant was few.w.

  • The study aimed to evaluate pork loin quality after short-term (ten-day) storage in a supercooling refrigerator. Pork loin samples were stored for 10 days in a traditional refrigerator (control) and a commercially available supercooling refrigerator (SC). Pork quality measurements included meat pH, meat color, water holding capacity (drip loss and cooking loss), tenderness (hardness), and a sensory evaluation. Temperature changes of 0.45 ± 0.2℃ and 0.02 ± 0.25℃ occurred in the control and the SC, respectively, during 10 days of storage. The temperature in the SC chamber did not remain below freezing point, failing to meet expectations. Regarding the pork quality measurements, only the drip losses in the control and the SC were significantly different (4.45% vs. 2.59%, p < 0.01) after 10 days of storage. There were no significant differences between the two types of refrigerator in terms of the other measurements. Additionally, the overall acceptability of the pork loin did not vary significantly between the control and the SC when the sensory evaluation was performed. Therefore, a commercial SC could prove beneficial in terms of water holding capacity during the short-term storage of meat. Further research should be performed to evaluate quality changes that occur during long-term storage of meat in SC s and evaluate a wide range of meat, such as beef and chicken.

  • A cryogenic Mixed Refrigerant Joule-Thomson refrigeration cycle was designed to be applied to the semiconductor etching process with non-flammable constituents. 3-stage cascade refrigerator, single mixed refrigerant Joule-Thomson refrigerator, and 2-stage cascade type mixed refrigerant Joule-Thomson refrigerator are analyzed to figure out the coefficient of performance. Non-flammable mixture of argon(Ar), tetrafluoromethane(R14), trifluoromethane (R23) and octafluoropropane(R218) were utilized to analyze the refrigeration cycle efficiency. The designed refrigeration cycle was adapted to cool down the coolant of HFE7200(Ethoxy-nonafluorobutane, C4F9OC2H5) with certain constraints. Maximum coefficient of performance of the refrigeration system is obtained as 0.289 for the cooling temperature lower than -100℃. The detailed result of the coefficient of performance according to the mixture composition is discussed in this study.

  • It is recent trend that the manufactures of refrigerator use BLDC motor which RPM is changed by voltage of DC power, instead of induction motor in order to reduce energy consumption and noise radiation. It can be controlled two or more RPM suitable to environmental condition. For example it is operate much lower RPM than normal(usual) in the night. This paper introduce the method of noise control in the case of using BLDC Fan motor for refrigerator.

  • In this study, vibration analysis of a refrigerator was carried out to reduce vibration induced noise. When the components of a machine are assembled together, the natural frequencies of each component are changed since they have influences on one another. To avoid the problem of resonance, the vibration characteristics of each component must be checked systematically after they are designed. For this purpose, vibration analysis of a refrigerator was done using a component synthesis method. The experimental and analytical results showed good agreement and are presented here.

  • lower vibration than in any other small refrigerators. The experimental results of three types of pulse tube refrigerators are presented in this paper. The objectives of this study are to develop the design technology of the double inlet pulse tube refrigerator and acquire its application method. As a preliminary experiment, the refrigeration performances of the basic, orifice and double inlet pulse tube refrigerator were investigated. The lowest temperature obtained in this experiment was 34.4K. The refrigeration capacity at the optimum operating condition of the double inlet pulse tube refrigerator was 23W at 80K.

  • In this work, the mechanism of structure-borne noise resulting from vibration of a compressor for a refrigerator is experimentally analyzed and an effective method is proposed to reduce the noise. Firstly, the emission noise, when the compressor is turned on and off, is measured and analyzed to identify the generation mechanism of structure-borne noise. And the acceleration on the outer wall of the refrigerator is also analyzed to identify the distribution of vibration. Secondly, an effective design method to reduce the noise is suggested by using the finite element analysis and Taguchi method. Consequently an optimal design of the refrigerator, which has lower noise, is obtained and then its performance and validity are verified through the analysis and test.

  • In this paper, we constructed four valve type pulse tube refrigerator and found the characteristic of orifice (needle valve) opening for using phase shifter and optimum cycle time - The valve timing was controlled by the digital timers. The experimental results showed the optimum frequence and cycle time at operating conditions. The results showed that the optimum process time existed and the rate was same at each operating frequence. The no- load temperature of the refrigerator was 85K.

  • The thermoacoustic refrigerator has not only considerable possibility but also commercial usability, because it has high reliability, lower vibration, no moving part, and can easily be constructed. In order to determine the optimum resonant tube length and the frequency, the open-tube-type(3$\lambda$/4) and close- tube - type (2$\lambda$/2) thermoacoustic refrigerator were constructed. In third harmonic, the temperature difference of 3$\lambda$/4 refrigerator was $53^{\circ}C$(resonator length :400mm). In second harmonic, the temperature difference of 2$\lambda$/2 refrigerator was $51^{\circ}C$(resonator length :400mm).
