  • This paper focuses on message complexity performance analysis of mobile ad hoc network (MANET) address autoconfiguration protocols (AAPs) in reference to link errors generated by mobile wireless nodes. An enhancement was made using a proposed retransmission limit, S, to be computed for error recovery (based on the link error probability), to measure message complexity of AAPs in reference to the link error probability, $P_e$. The control procedures for the retransmission limit have been included for each of the AAPs. Retransmission limit control is critical for efficient energy consumption of MANET nodes operating on limited portable energy. O-notation has been applied to analyze the upper bound of the number of messages generated by a MANET group of nodes. The AAPs investigated in this paper are strong duplicate address detection (DAD), weak DAD with proactive routing protocol (WDP), weak DAD with on-demand routing protocol (WDO), and MANETConf. Each AAP reacts different to link errors, as each AAP has different operational procedures. The required number of broadcasting, unicasting, relaying, and received messages of the nodes participating in a single-node joining procedure is investigated to asymptotically calculate the message complexity of each AAP. Computer simulation was conducted and the results have been analyzed to verify the theoretical message complexity bounds derived. The message complexity of WDP was lowest, closely followed byWDO, based on the simulation results and analysis of the message complexity under nominal situations. The message complexity of MANETConf was higher than WDO, and strong DAD resulted to be most complex among the four AAPs.

  • This paper proposes a compensation method for the $2^{nd}$-order harmonic of single-phase grid-connected wind power generation systems. Theoretically, a single-phase grid-connected inverter system has no choice but to cause the $2^{nd}$-order harmonic to DC-link voltage. The reference active current is affected by the DC-link voltage. The output current from the reference active current is distorted by the $1^{st}$ and $3^{rd}$-order harmonic. The proposed method can compensate, conveniently, the reference active current with the $2^{nd}$-order harmonic. To reduce the $2^{nd}$-order ripple in the reference active current, proposed method takes a PR controller as a feed-forward compensator. PR controllers can implement selective harmonic compensation without excessive computational requirements; the use of these controllers simplifies the method. Both the simulation and experimental results agree well with the theoretical analysis.

  • In this paper, a method has been proposed for error measurement/diagnosis of CNC machine tools using the ball link bar on three dimensional space. For the circular motion error measurement, deviation between the desired and actual test path has been measured and analysed using a new type of ball link which incorporates ideal three point contact between reference balls and sockets. Computer program for the error evaluation has been developed and implemented under PC environment. Using the developed program, the circular test data on a CNC machine tool have been analysed, and thus, machine tool errors were effectively evaluated.

  • Recently, most of the public institutions are developing ITA(Information Technology Architecture) & BSC (Balance ScoreCard) system. ITA's reference model is provided for the consistency, reusability, and interoperability. By the way, PRM(Performance Reference Model), one of the ITA reference models, is needed to link with BSC system. In this paper, we provide the linking method of ITA and BSC.

  • This paper presents a DC link voltage control method to reduce the ripple current and the switching loss in the sinusoidal current drive system for the wide-speed range PMSM. The DC link voltage of the three phase inverter in the sinusoidal current drive system is designed by the back-EMF voltage at maximum speed of the PMSM. In general, the drive systems have used the constant DC link voltage without reference to the motor speed. The current ripple causes hysteresis loss and makes noise. In addition, the switching loss on the inverter increases in proportion to the rise in the DC link voltage. In this paper, we propose the variable DC link voltage control method to reduce the current ripple in the PMSM drive system. We show reduction effect of the current repple and the switching loss through simulation results.

  • This paper proposes a DC-link voltage balance controller using the fourth-phase of a three-level neutral-point clamped (NPC) PWM converter with medium vector selection (MVS) PWM for common-mode voltage reduction. MVS PWM makes the voltage reference by synthesizing the voltage vectors that cannot generate common-mode voltage. This PWM method is effective for reducing the EMI noise emitted from converter systems. However, the DC-link voltage imbalance problem is caused by the use of limited voltage vectors. Therefore, in this paper, the effect of MVS PWM on the DC-link voltage of a three-level NPC converter is analyzed. Then a proportional-derivative (PD) controller for the DC-link voltage balance is designed from the DC-link modeling. In addition, feedforward compensation of the neutral point current is included in the proposed PD controller. The effectiveness of the proposed controller is verified by experimental results.

  • A radio over fiber (RoF) system is a kind of analog optical transmission system and considered as a strong candidate for the next-generation fronthaul link in the future mobile network. In RoF systems, nonlinearity compensation is essential to increase the link capacity. In this paper, we propose a nonlinearity detection and compensation scheme using a monitoring channel in RoF systems. A monitoring channel is added at the transmitter site and used for transmitting a reference signal in an RoF transmission. The nonlinearity in the RoF transmission is detected by comparing the received monitoring signal and the original reference signal at the receiver site. Finally, the nonlinearity is compensated at the receiver by giving the reverse function of the detected nonlinearity. Our results show that the proposed scheme can almost remove the error vector magnitude degradation induced by the nonlinearity in the RoF system.

  • This paper deals with adaptive control method of a robot manipulator with one-flexible link. ARMA model is used as a prediction and estimation model, and adaptive control scheme consists of parameter estimation part and adaptive controller. Parameter estimation part estimates ARMA model's coefficients by using recursive least-squares(RLS) algorithm and generates the predicted output. Variable forgetting factor (VFF) is introduced to achieve an efficient estimation, and adaptive controller consists of reference model, error dynamics model and minimum prediction error controller. An optimal input is obtained by minimizing input torque, it's successive input change and the error between the predicted output and the reference output.

  • In this paper, the double inverted pendulum having a single actuator is built and the controller for the system is proposed. The lower link is hinged on the plate to free for rotation in the x-z plane. The upper link is connected to the lower link through a DC motor. The double inverted pendulum built can be kept upright posture by controlling the position of the upper link even though the proposed inverted pendulum has no actuator in lower hinge. The algorithm to control the inverted pendulum is consisted of a state feedback controller within a linearizable range and a fuzzy logic controller coupled with a feedback linearization control for the rest of the range. Concept of the virtual work is employed to drive the linearlized model for the state feedback controller. The feedback linearization controller drives a DC motor with the modified reference joint angle from the fuzzy controller which adjusts a upright posture of a proposed pendulum system. Finally, the experiments are conducted to show the validity of the proposed controller.

  • In this research, a reach posture prediction based on a two-segment trunk model was made. Recently, reach posture prediction models have used inverse kinematics to provide a single posture that a person naturally takes, with a single segment trunk model that had some shortcomings. A two-segment trunk model was first developed with two links; pelvis link and lumbar-thoracic link. The former refers to the link from the hip joint to L5/S1 joint while the latter does the link from L5/S1 to the shoulder joint. Second, a reach prediction model was developed using the two-segment trunk model. As a result, more reliable equations for two-segment trunk motion were obtained, and the lean direction which refers to the movement direction of the trunk was not found to have a significant effect on the two-segment trunk motion. The results also showed that the hip joint is more preferred over L5/S1 to serve as a reference point for trunk models and the reach prediction model being developed predicted the real posture accurately.
