  • Motion Estimation which is used to reduce the redundant data plays an important role in video compressions. However, it requires huge computational complexity of the encoder part. And therefore many fast motion estimation methods has been developed to reduce complexity. Multi-view video is obtained by using many cameras at different positions and its complexity increases in proportion to the number of cameras. In this paper, we proposed a fast motion estimation method for multi-view video. The proposed method predicts a search start point by using correlated candidate vectors of the current block. According to the motion size of the start search point, a search start pattern of the current block is decided adaptively. The proposed method proves to be about 2 ~ 5 times faster than existing methods while maintaining similar image quality and bitrates.

  • This paper presents a method for reliability evaluation of a telecommunication network with variable link-capacities when the simple paths of the network are known. The LP-EM, suggested by Lee and Park (2001), identifies a composite path as a subnetwork and adds only a minimal set of links at each step which gives maximal increase on the maximum capacity flow of the subnetwork. Thereby the LP-EM reduces the possible occurrence of redundant composite paths significantly over other existing methods. Based on the LP-EM, our method further reduces the possible redundancy by identifying such simple paths that could give no increase of maximum capacity flow on the current subnetwork and excluding those simple paths from consideration in the process of constructing composite paths.

  • In this paper, we hve compare the performance of DAR(Dynamic Adaptive Routing) with that of FSR(Flooding Search Routing) to select an adequate routing protocol in circuit-switched networs. As a performance factor, we have considered call setup time, which is the key factor of performance evaluation in circuit switched networks. We have evaluated the performance of two methods in grid topology circuit-switched networks using a commn channel signaling scheme, as application examples. As results, FSR method shows better performance than DAR method under light traffic load, when the number of links by which call has passed increases, but DAR method represents better performance than FSR method under heavy traffic load or large networks because of redundant packets.

  • Redundant spurious loops and overlapping segments in stability lobe diagrams cannot be removed easily by regular methods. A programmatic approach is presented to detect multiple spurious loops occurring within the lobes. They are identified by reorganizing the numerical lobe data into speed-depth corners for subsequent removal. The same principle is then extended to remove overlapping segments of adjacent lobes to obtain a final continuous stability map. Unlike existing methods, the proposed methodology requires no interface with additional editing software, and can also yield stability lobe diagrams more quickly. The methodology is presented with lobe diagrams constructed using milling and turning models.

  • Today, rapid development and timeliness of introducing a new product be- comes a more influencing factor of determing its competitive power due to a shortened product cycle, while rapid improvement of manufacturing technology makes product design and manufacturing fuse together. This implies that prod- uct usability evaluation and improvement starts right from its design phase, resulting in less development time and cost. To make this possible, proper as- sessment of human reach is one of essential functions for ergonomic product us- ability evaluation, specifically in the platform of computer-aided ergonomic evaluation models or any CAD system with a built-in man model. In this study, an analytic reach prediction algorithm ensuring the posture that human naturally takes, is presented by employing the methods developed for robot kinematics. Among robot kinematic methods for solving the multi-link system, the resolved motion method was found to be effective to solve human reach as a redundant manipulator model. Also, the joint range availability was used as a performance fonction to guarantee human naturalness. The result is expected to be directly applicable to product usability evaluations.

  • This paper proposes a novel voltage distortion approach for output filter design based on the voltage transfer function for both off-grid and grid-connected Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) Inverters. The method explained in detail is compared to conventional methods. A comparative analysis is performed on an example of L and LCL-filter design. Simulation and experimental results for the off-grid and the grid-connected single phase inverter prove our theoretical predictions. It was found that conventional methods define redundant values of the output filter elements. Assumptions and limitations of the proposed approach are also discussed.

  • Some pattern recognition methods have been used to characterize Korean ancient porcelainsherds using their elemental composition as analyzed by instrumental neutron activation analysis. A combination of analytical data by means of statistical linear discriminant analysis(SLDA) has resulted in removal of redundant variables, optimal linear combination of meaningful variables and formulation of classification rules. The plot in the first-to-second discriminant scores has shown that the three distinct territorial regions exist among porcelainsherds of Kyungki, Chunbuk-Chungnam, and Chunnam, with respective efficiencies of 20/30, 22/27 and 14/15. Similar regions have been found to exist among punchong porcelain and ceradonsherds of Kyungki, Chungnam and Chunbuk, with respective efficiencies of 7/9, 15/16 and 6/6. Classification has been further attempted by statistical isolinear multiple component analysis(SIMCA), using the sample set selected appropriately through SLDA as training set. For this purpose, all analytical data have been used. An agreement has generally been found between two methods, i.e., SLDA and SIMCA.

  • The focus of this paper is secure code development and maintenance. When it comes to safe code, it is most important to consider code readability and maintainability. This is because complex code has a code smell, that is, a structural problem that complicates code understanding and modification. In this paper, the goal is to improve code quality by detecting and removing smells existing in code. We target the encryption and decryption code SEED.c and evaluate the quality level of the code using several metrics such as lines of code (LOC), number of methods (NOM), number of attributes (NOA), cyclo, and maximum nesting level. We improved the quality of SEED.c through systematic detection and refactoring of code smells. Studies have shown that refactoring processes such as splitting long methods, modularizing large classes, reducing redundant code, and simplifying long parameter lists improve code quality. Through this study, we found that encryption code requires refactoring measures to maintain code security.

  • The recently developed sampling theory, "compressed sensing" is gathering huge interest in MR reconstruction area because of its feasibility of high spatio-temporal resolution of dynamic MRI which has been limited in conventional methods based on Nyquist sampling theory. Since dynamic MRI usually has high redundant information along temporal direction, this can be very sparsely represented in most of cases. Therefore, compressed sensing that exploits the sparsity of unknown images can be effectively applied in most of dynamic MRI. This review article briefly introduces currently proposed compressed sensing based dynamic MR imaging algorithms and other methods exploiting sparsity. By comparing them with conventional methods, you may have insight how the compressed sensing based methods can impact nearly every area of clinical dynamic MRI.

  • Due to the lack of improper image acquisition process, noise induction is an inevitable step. As a result, objective image quality assessment (IQA) plays an important role in estimating the visual quality of noisy image. Plenty of IQA methods have been proposed including traditional signal processing based methods as well as current deep learning based methods where the later one shows promising performance due to their complex representation ability. The deep learning based methods consists of several convolution layers and down sampling layers for feature extraction and fully connected layers for regression. Usually, the down sampling is performed by using max-pooling layer after each convolutional block. We reveal that this max-pooling causes information loss despite of knowing their importance. Consequently, we propose a better IQA method that replaces the max-pooling layers with strided convolutions to down sample the feature space and since the strided convolution layers have learnable parameters, they preserve optimal features and discard redundant information, thereby improve the prediction accuracy. The experimental results verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.
