When the hollow cylinder structure moves in underwater with high speed structural can be propagated from the end of the structure to the front side. This noise can reduce the sensitivity of the conformal array which installed in the surface of the cylinder. To reduce this noise propagation it is suggested to install two self-reduction rings at the surrounding of the cylinder which is 500mm in diameter and 840mm in length. The places of the two noise reduction rings are 120mm and 240mm point from the end of the structure. Two noise reduction rings reduced 10.1 % of maximum stress. When outside noise frequency applied to the structure from the 4kZ to 6kHz, 20dB noise reduction was calculated using 6 order polynomial equation. When outside noise frequency also applied to the structure with 200Hz, 500Hz, 900Hz, maximum sound pressure level point moved to the end of the structure. Most conformal sensors are fabricated at the front side of the structure. Based on the simulation results proposed two rings can be reduced noise propagation from the tail of the structure effectively.
This study investigated the processing characteristics of soybean (HaePum) sprouts based on temperature (5, 15 and room temperature), period (0, 6 and 12 mon) and relative humidity (20, 40, 60, and 80%) during storage. The initial germination rate of soybean sprouts was 76.02±6.32%, which significantly reduced to 57.18±8.51%, and 0% as the storage temperature of soybean increased for a period of 12 mon. The germination rate of soybean sprouts with 30 ℃ and 80% RH decreased after 4 mon of storage to 4.94%. The yellowness of cotyledon of soybean sprouts was not significantly changed during the 12 mon period of storage at 5 ℃, whereas, soybean sprouts stored at 15 ℃ and room temperature demonstrated decreased yellowness. However, the stress of cotyledon decreased with an increase in both storage temperature and time, and the hardness of hypocotyl decreased with an increase of storage time. The stress of cotyledon affected by high temperature (30 ℃) and humidity (80%) during 4 mon was reduced to 44.39±9.38 g/㎟. The asparagine content of soybean sprouts showed a similar result with the germination rate due to the amount of hypocotyl. Therefore, lower temperatures and shorter storage times are suitable for soybean sprout processing. The first order kinetic model and Arrhenius equation (activation energy =29.56 kJ/mol) were able to predict the yield of sprout at various storage temperatures and periods.

In order to understand rotation behavior of high strength steel endplate connections under fire, this study is compared with existing studies conducted using FEA program. Eurocode 3 presents the three failure modes according to the prediction of bending resistance moment. The parameters of analysis model are temperature, thickness and steel materials of endplate. The rotation stiffness, and bending resistance moment are analyzed according to the parameters. The change of rotation stiffness and bending resistance moment are analyzed about the parameters, regression equations are suggested the change of high strength steel endplate connections. Consequently, the regression equations were proposed as the linear and quadratic equation. The moment ratio of high strength steel under fire was more reduced than the carbon steel, and was small effect about the thickness. When the high strength steel under fire was compared with at ambient temperature, the slope of initial rotation stiffness reduced, the increment ratio of moment was slow, and the change of plastic rotation stiffness wasn't effect by the thickness increase.
The paper relates to a study on the changes in performance of insulation sheath resulting from accelerated degradation of IV and HIV insulated wire. To assume insulation degradation of IV and HIV insulated wire, accelerated life tests using Arrhenius equation were conducted among accelerated life test models, and experimental samples of 0 year, 10 years, 20 years, 30 years, and 40 years in equivalent life were produced. Whereas the maximum tensile load were increased as accelerated degradation of IV and HIV insulated wire progressed, elongation percentage, rupture time, and flexibility of insulated wires were found to be gradually reduced. According to the additional surface analysis results for the insulated wires per equivalent life using a scanning electron microscope, mechanical properties of the insulator were observed to be reduced as insulation degradation resulting from aging progressed since phenomena such as formation of crystalline structures and perforation, etc. occurred on the sample surface with progression of accelerated degradation. Consequently, institutional replacement of insulated wires and preparation of repair times considering performance degradation of the insulator installed inside buildings are considered necessary in order to prevent in advance the risks of electrical fire resulting from degradation in insulation performance.

Urbanization causes many environmental, hydrological and ecological problems such as distortion of the natural water circulation system, increase in nonpoint source pollutants in stormwater runoff, degradation of surface water quality, and damage to the ecosystem. Due to the increase in impervious surface by urbanization, developed countries apply low impact development (LID) techniques as important alternatives to reduce the impacts of urbanization. In Korea, LID techniques were employed since 2012 in order to manage nonpoint source pollutants. LID technology is a technique for removing pollutants using a variety of physical, chemical and biological mechanisms in plants, microorganisms and filter media with the reduced effluence of stormwater runoff by mimicking natural water circulation system. These LID facilities are used in a variety of filter media, but an assessment has not been carried out for the comprehensive comparison evaluation of adsorption and desorption characteristics for the pollutant removal capacity. Therefore, this study was conducted to analyze the adsorption and desorption characteristics of various filter media used in the LID facilities such as sand, gravel, bioceramic, wood chips and bottom ash etc. in reducing heavy metals(Pb, Cu). In this study, the adsorption affinity for Pb in all filter media was higher than Cu. Pseudo second order equation and Langmuir-3 isotherm are more applicable in the adsorption kinetic model and adsorption isotherm model, respectively. As a result of the desorption experiment, the filter media does not exceed KSLT which is the hazardous substance leaching limit, showing the capability of the filter media in LID. The bioceramic and woodchip as filter medias were evaluated and exhibited excellent adsorption capacity for Pb.
BACKGROUND: It is well known that rice-fields can provide excellent foraging places for birds including seasonal migrants, wintering, and breeding and hence the high biodiversity of rice-fields may be expected. However, how environmental change including climate-changes on life-history and population dynamics in birds on rice-fields has not been fully understood. In order to investigate how climate-change affects population migratory patterns and migration timing, I modeled a population dynamics of birds in rice-fields over a whole year. METHODS AND RESULTS: I applied the Lotka-Volterra equation to model the population dynamics of birds that have been foraging/visiting rice-fields in Korea. The simple model involves the number of interspecific individuals and temperature, and the model parameters are periodic in time as the biological activities related to the migration, wintering and reproduction are seasonal. As results, firstly there was a positive relationship between the variation of seasonal population sizes and temperature change. Secondly, the reduced lengths of season were negatively related to the population size. Overall, the effects of the difference of lengths of season on seasonal population dynamics were higher than the effects of seasonal temperature change. CONCLUSION(S): Climate change can alter population dynamics of birds in rice-fields and hence the variation may affect the fitness, such as reproduction, survival and migration. The unstable balances of population dynamics in birds using paddy rice field as affected by climate change can reduce the population growth and species diversity in rice fields. The results suggest that the agricultural production is partly affected by the unstable balance of population in birds using rice-fields.

Bearing capacity factor $N_{\gamma}$ and shape factor were studied for rigid strip and circular footings with a rough base on sand by numerical modelling considering the effect of dilation angle. The numerical model was developed with an explicit finite difference code. Loading procedures and interpretation methods were devised in order to shorten the running time while eliminating the exaggeration of the reaction caused by the explicit scheme. Using the Mohr-Coulomb plasticity model with associated (${\psi}={\phi}$) and nonassociated (${\psi}$ < ${\phi}$) flow-rules, the bearing capacity factor $N_{\gamma}$ was evaluated for various combinations of internal friction angles and dilation angles. Bearing capacity factor decreased as the dilation angle was reduced from the associated condition. An equation applicable to typical sands was proposed to evaluate the relative bearing capacity for the nonassociated condition compared to the associated condition on which most bearing capacity factor equations are based. The shape factor for the circular footing varied substantially when the plane-strain effect was taken into account for the strip footing. The numerical results of this study showed closer trends with the previous experimental results when the internal friction angle was increased for the strip footing. Discussions are made on the reason that previous equations for the shape factor give different results and recommendations are made for the appropriate design shape factor.

In this study, noise radiated from a high-speed fan-motor unit for a cordless vacuum cleaner is reduced by designing splitter blades on the existing impeller. First of all, in order to investigate the flow field through a fan-motor unit, especially impeller, the unsteady incompressible Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations are numerically solved by using computational fluid dynamic technique. With predicted flow field results as input, the Ffowcs Williams-Hawkings (FW-H) integral equation is solved to predict aerodynamic noise radiated from the impeller. The validity of the numerical methods is confirmed by comparing the predicted sound pressure spectrum with the measured one. Further analysis of the predicted flow field shows that the strong vortex is formed between the impeller blades. As the vortex induces the loss of the flow field and acts as an aerodynamic noise source, supplementary splitter blades are designed to the existing impeller to suppress the identified vortex. The length and position of splitter are selected as design factors and the effect of each design factor on aerodynamic noise is numerically analyzed by using the Taguchi method. From this results, the optimum location and length of splitter for minimum radiated noise is determined. The finally selected design shows lower noise than the existing one.

Most crop damages have been occurred by vermin(e.g., wild birds and herbivores) during the period between seeding and the cotyledon level. In this study, to minimize the damage by vermin and acquire the benefits such as protection against weeds and maintenance of water content in soil, immediately vinyl mulching after seeding was devised. Vinyl mulching has been generally covered with black color vinyl, that crop seeding locations cannot be detected by visible light range. Before punching vinyl, non-contact and non-destructive methods that can continuously determine the locations are necessary. In this study, a crop position detection method was studied that uses infrared thermal image sensor to determine the cotyledon position under vinyl mulch. The moving system for acquiring image arrays has been developed for continuously detecting crop locations under plastic mulching on the field. A sliding mechanical device was developed to move the sensor, which were arranged in the form of a linear array, perpendicular to the array using a micro-controller integrated with a stepping motor. The experiments were conducted while moving 4.00 cm/s speed of the IR sensor by the rotational speed of the stepping motor based on a digital pulse width modulation signal from the micro-controller. The acquired images were calibrated with the spatial image correlation. The collected data were processed using moving averaging on interpolation to determine the frame where the variance was the smallest in resolution units of 1.02 cm. For this study, the spline method was relatively faster than the other polynomial interpolation methods, because it has a lower maximum order of formulation when using a system such as the tridiagonal linear equation system which provided the capability of real-time processing. The temperature distribution corresponding to the distance between the crops was 10 cm, and the more clearly the leaf pattern of the crop was visually confirmed. The frequency difference was decreased, as the number of overlapped pixels was increased. Also the wave pattern of points where the crops were recognized were reduced.
The purpose of this study is to estimate the behavior and the mechanism of debris flow at the end of mountain side when a berm was set on the inclined plane. The numerical model was performed by using the Finite Difference Method(FDM) based on the equation for the mass conservation and momentum conservation. In order to measure the behavior of the debris flow, the debris flow of a straight channel slope and the debris flow of channel slope with 3 types of berms were compared. First, the flow discharge and the sediment volume concentration at the downstream of the channel slope, depending on the various berm width and the different inflow discharges at the upstream of the channel were analyzed. The longer the berm width, the flow discharge at the downstream of the channel was decreased and the high flow fluctuation was reduced by a berm. And it means that a berm can effect for the delay of the debris flow. Through Root Mean Square ratio(RMS) comparison, the flow discharge of the channel slope with a berm was lower than that of a straight channel slope. The longer the berm width, for the sediment volume concentration, an inflection point did not show but mild curve. Because the low sediment concentration with water mixture by a berm continuously flow at the downstream end, it will be effect for reducing the disaster caused by debris flow. The results of this study will provide useful information in predicting and preventing disaster caused by the debris flow.
