Eu3+-doped BaZrO3 (BaZrO3:Eu3+) phosphor powders were prepared using a solid-state reaction by changing the molar concentration of Eu3+ within the range of 0.5 to 30 mol%. Irrespective of the molar concentration of Eu3+ ions, the crystal structures of all the phosphors were cubic. The excitation spectra of BaZrO3:Eu3+ phosphors consisted of an intense broad band centered at 277 nm in the range of 230~320 nm. The emission spectra were composed of a dominant orange band at 595 nm arising from the 5D0→7F1 magnetic dipole transition of Eu3+ and two weak emission bands centered at 574 and 615 nm, respectively. As the concentration of Eu3+ increased from 0.5 to 10 mol%, the intensities of all the emission bands gradually increased, approached maxima at 10 mol% of Eu3+ ions, and then showed a decreasing tendency with further increase in the Eu3+ ions due to the concentration quenching. The critical distance between neighboring Eu3+ ions for concentration quenching was calculated to be 11.21 Å, indicating that dipole-dipole interaction was the main mechanism of concentration quenching of BaZrO3:Eu3+ phosphors. The results suggest that the orange emission intensity can be modulated by doping the appropriate concentration of Eu3+ ions.

The luminescence properties of $Sr_{1-x}Ba_xTiO_3:Pr$, Al red phosphor for Field Emission Displays (FEDs) have been investigated in powders prepared though solid-state reactions. $Sr_{1-x}Ba_xTiO_3:Pr$, Al red phosphors indicate a higher luminescent intensity, and have been found to have potential for field emission displays. The addition of Ba increased the luminescence intensity at 617 nm by up to 30%. Ba ions are effective in producing the energy transfers from host-to-activator in 4f-5d transitions.
$Er^{3+}$ and $Yb^{3+}$ co-doped $Y_3Ga_5O_{12}$ polycrystalline powders were prepared by using a solid-state reaction method, and their crystallinities were measured using X-ray diffraction. According to the results of X-ray diffraction, the powders showed a polycrystalline tetragonal structure. The photoluminescence and the upconversion luminescence properties of the $(Y_{0.85-x}Yb_{0.15})_3Ga_5O_{12}:Er^{3+}_x$ (x = 0.03, 0.06, 0.09, 0.12 and 0.15) phosphors were investigated in detail. Green and red upconversion emissions were observed for the phosphors excited by 980 nm radiation from a semiconductor laser. The powders exhibited strong green and weak red upconversion emission peaks at 553 and 660 nm, respectively. Also, their upconversion processes were explained using an energy-diagram analysis and the strongest upconversion intensity was emitted by the powder with a 0.12 mol $Er^{3+}$ ion concentration.
SrMoO4:RE3+ (RE=Dy, Sm, Tb, Eu, Dy/Sm) phosphors are prepared by co-precipitation method. The effects of the type and the molar ratio of activator ions on the structural, morphological, and optical properties of the phosphor particles are investigated. X-ray diffraction data reveal that all the phosphors have a tetragonal system with a main (112) diffraction peak. The emission spectra of the SrMoO4 phosphors doped with several activator ions indicate different multicolor emissions: strong yellow-emitting light at 573 nm for Dy3+, red light at 643 nm for Sm3+, green light at 545 nm for Tb3+, and reddish orange light at 614 nm for Eu3+ activator ions. The Dy3+ singly-doped SrMoO4 phosphor shows two dominant emission peaks at 479 and 573 nm corresponding to the 4F9/2→6H15/2 magnetic dipole transition and 4F9/2→6H13/2 electric dipole transition, respectively. For Dy3+ and Sm3+ doubly-doped SrMoO4 phosphors, two kinds of emission peaks are observed. The two emission peaks at 479 and 573 nm are attributed to 4F9/2→6H15/2 and 4F9/2→6H13/2 transitions of Dy3+ and two emission bands centered at 599 and 643 nm are ascribed to 4G5/2→6H7/2 and 4G5/2→6H9/2 transitions of Sm3+. As the concentration of Sm3+ increases from 1 to 5 mol%, the intensities of the emission bands of Dy3+ gradually decrease; those of Sm3+ slowly increase and reach maxima at 5 mol% of Sm3+ ions, and then rapidly decrease with increasing molar ratio of Sm3+ ions due to the concentration quenching effect. Fluorescent security inks based on as-prepared phosphors are synthesized and designed to demonstrate an anti-counterfeiting application.

A series of Dy3+, Sm3+, and Dy3+/Sm3+ doped Gd2WO6 phosphors were synthesized by the conventional solid-state reaction. The X-ray diffraction patterns revealed that all of the diffraction peaks could be attributed to the monoclinic Gd2WO6 crystal structure, irrespective of the type and the concentration of activator ions. The photoluminescence (PL) excitation spectra of Dy3+-doped Gd2WO6 phosphors contained an intense charge transfer band centered at 302 nm in the range of 240-340 nm and two weak peaks at 351 and 386 nm. Under an excitation wavelength of 302 nm, the PL emission spectra consisted of two strong blue and yellow bands centered at 482 nm and 577 nm. The PL emission spectra of the Sm3+-doped Gd2WO6 phosphors had a series of three peaks centered at 568 nm, 613 nm, and 649 nm, corresponding to the 6G5/2 → 6H5/2, 6G5/2 → 6H9/2, and 6G5/2 → 6H11/2 transitions of Sm3+, respectively. The PL emission spectra of the Dy3+- and Sm3+-codoped Gd2WO6 phosphors showed the blue and yellow emission lines originating from the 4F9/2 → 6H15/2 and 4F9/2 → 4H13/2 transitions of Dy3+ and reddish-orange and red emission bands due to the 4G5/2 → 6H7/2 and 4G5/2 → 6H9/2 transitions of Sm3+. As the concentration of Sm3+ increased from 1 to 15 mol%, the intensities of two PL spectra emitted by the Dy3+ ions gradually decreased, while those of the three emission bands due to the Sm3+ ions slowly increased, thus producing the color change from white to orange. The CIE color coordinates of Gd2WO6:5 mol% Dy3+, 1 mol% Sm3+ phosphors were (0.406, 0.407), which was located in the warm white light region.

The red emitting OLEDs using $Alq_3$:Rubrene-GDI4234 phosphors have been fabricated and characterized . In the device fabrication, 2- TNATA [4,4',4' - tris (2- naphthylphenyl - phenylamino ) - tripheny lamine] as the hole injection material and NPB [N,N'-bis (1-naphthyl)-N,N'-diphenyl-1,1'-biphenyl-4,4'-diamine] as the hole transport material were deposited on the ITO(indium tin oxide)/glass substrate by vacuum evaporation. And then, red color emissive layer was deposited using $Alq_3$ as the host material and Rubrene(5,6,11,12-tetraphenylnaphthacene)-GDI4234 as the dopants. finally, small molecule OLEDs with structure of ITO/2-TNATA/NPB/$Alq_3$:Rubrene-GDI4234/$Alq_3$/LiF/Al were obtained by in-situ deposition of $Alq_3$, LiF and Al as the electron transport material, electron injection material and cathode, respectively. Red OLEDs fabricated in our experiments showed the color coordinate of CIE(0.65, 0.35) and the maximum power efficiency of 2.1 lm/W at 7 V with the peak emission wavelength of 632 nm.

The effects of $Eu^{3+}$ doping on the structural, morphological, and optical properties of $MgMoO_4:Dy^{3+},Eu^{3+}$ phosphors prepared by solid-state reaction technique were investigated. XRD patterns exhibited that all the synthesized phosphors showed a monoclinic system with a dominant (220) diffraction peak, irrespective of the content of $Eu^{3+}$ ions. The surface morphology of $MgMoO_4:Dy^{3+},Eu^{3+}$ phosphors was studied using scanning electron microscopy and the grains showed a tendency to agglomerate as the content of $Eu^{3+}$ ions increased. The excitation spectra of the phosphor powders were composed of a strong charge transfer band centered at 294 nm in the range of 230~340 nm and two intense peaks at 354 and 389 nm, respectively, arising from the $^6H_{15/2}{\rightarrow}^6P_{7/2}$ and $^6H_{15/2}{\rightarrow}^4M_{21/2}$ transitions of $Dy^{3+}$ ions. The emission spectra of the $Mg_{0.85}MoO_4$:10 mol% $Dy^{3+}$ phosphors without incorporating $Eu^{3+}$ ions revealed a strong yellow band centered at 573 nm resulting from the $^4F_{9/2}{\rightarrow}^6H_{13/2}$ transition of $Dy^{3+}$. As the content of $Eu^{3+}$ was increased, the intensity of the yellow emission was gradually decreased, while that of red emission band located at 614 nm began to appear, approached a maximum value at 10 mol%, and then decreased at 15 mol% of $Eu^{3+}$. These results indicated that white light emission could be achieved by controlling the contents of the $Dy^{3+}$ and $Eu^{3+}$ ions incorporated into the $MgMoO_4$ host crystal.

Synthesis of the fluorescent Au nanoclusters is reported. The Au nanoclusters were synthesized via reduction of gold ions in reverse micelles with mild reducing agents. The Au nanoclusters show a bright red emission at 640 nm. The fluorescent Au nanoclusters attract great interest for sensor, electronic device and bio-imaging applications because of ultra-small size, high chemical stablity and bright emission. We believe that the fluorescent Au nanoclusters can have optoelectronic applications such as optical down conversion phosphors.
A series of $Eu^{2+}/Mn^{2+}$ co-activated $Ba_{1.98-x}Sr_xZnS_3$ red emission phosphors was synthesized using the polymerizable complex method. The excitation spectra of the materials contain two wide bands centered at 345nm and 445nm, implicating their possible use for white LED lighting applications. In addition, substitution of Sr for Ba by 20% (x=0.4) improved drastically the emission intensity as well as the internal quantum efficiency compared to those for Sr-free $Ba_2ZnS_3:Eu^{2+}/Mn^{2+}$ phosphor.
