The mechanical properties of fiber reinforced porous concrete for use as a planting material were investigated in this study. Changes in physical and mechanical properties, subsequent to the addition of carbon fiber and silica fume, were studied. The effects of recycled aggregate were also evaluated. The applicability as planting work concrete material was also assessed. The results showed that there were no remarkable changes in the void and strength characteristics following the increase in proportion of recycled aggregate. Also, the mixture with 10% silica fume was found to be the most effective for strength enforcement. The highest flexural strength was obtained when the carbon fiber was added with $3\%$. It was also noticed that PAN-derived carbon fiber was superior to Pitch-derived ones in view of strength. The evaluation of its usage for vegetation showed that the growth of plants was directly affected by the existence of covering soil, in case of having the similar size of aggregate and void.

The Natural aggregate will be faced with serious shortage problem within 10 years due to the great amount of consumption in domestic. In order to reserve our natural resources, the construction waste has to be reused as an alternative material. Especially, It is more imminent to find alternative material in case of fine aggregate. This paper presents and experimental results on the fundamental property of concrete using recycled fine aggregate. As a result, it was found that the property of concrete using recycled fine aggregate substituted for 25% of a natural sand was similar in that of crushed fine aggregate.
Gypsum has been known as a prominent material for improving alkali soil, and this material can be supplied easily in large scale by recycling waste gypsum plasterboard from construction and demolition sites in advanced countries. In April 2000, in the part of western Jilin Province in China, where alkali soil spread vastly, we conducted a cultivating experiment of corn and rice after treating with granule recycled waste gypsum at six alkali soil fields which total area were 14000$m^2$. We confirmed that pH of soil decreased in a short period and alkali soil changed soft a desirable condition for farm work, and furthermore, gypsum caused to accelerate the growth of a plant, both corn and rice.

Serious problems of the environment protection and resource exhaustion are exhibited. due to the increase of the construction materials and activation of the remodeling, recently. Especially, most of the advanced countries. recycling plan for the waste concrete is vigorously progressing. The purpose of this study is making advances in the recycling of waste concrete material for use as recycled aggregate to make secondary concrete product. Using recycled aggregates form demolished concrete, we manufactured cement bricks to experiment overall performance in Korean Standard and feasible performances. On the recycled cement, in the case of cement : aggregate is 1 : 7 is satisfied with KS F 4004 : dimensions, water absorption, compressive strength of quality of a standard. So we concluded that it has great feasibility to apply these products to construction industry.

Previous study on recycled aggregate(RA) has largely been limited to the manufacture of nonstructural-grade concrete due to undesirable physical properties of them such as, high water absorption leading to high water demand of concrete. The restriction seriously limits its market and consequently diminishes the use of RA as a construction material. This paper presents the mechanical properties of recycled concrete substituted by both waste foundry sand(WFS) and recycled coarse aggregate replaced with fine and coarse aggregate concurrently. The result shows that the compressive and tensile strength decrease with the increment of substitution ratio of RA and WFS while bending strength of RA concrete increase.

In this paper, the feasibility of recycling concrete waste as a method to reduce final disposal amount of wastes generated through decommissioning of nuclear power plant has been analyzed based on experimental results of existing literature. When recycled concrete waste was used as recycled aggregate, it was investigated through literature that the concrete strength decreased by 30~40% depending on the mixing ratio. It was also investigated that concrete with recycled aggregate can be used as a structural material when the quality of recycled aggregate is well managed since no significant problem was found. When recycled cement produced from concrete waste was used, the strength of concrete or mortar decreased considerably as the recycled cement content increased. Therefore, it can be concluded that concrete or mortar with recycled cement can be used as a filling material for final disposal of large radioactive waste rather than for structural use. This paper is expected to be useful for reduction on disposal volume and decommissioning cost for nuclear power plants such as Kori 1.

The volume of construction waste material from the entire waste material volume in Korea is approximately 47.3% to take the biggest ratio, and from them, the waste concrete takes up approximately 62.8% that recycling is an urgent issue to address. Therefore, the government recommends more diverse and broader facilitation of the recycled aggregate in order to promote recycling the construction waste materials. In addition, when using concrete recycled aggregate in building, building standard such as floor area ratio and building height are being mitigation. The standard is a condition that mitigation the floor area ratio by up to 15% when using up to 25% of concrete recycled aggregate. Therefore, this study reviewed the relaxation of construction of construction standards when using concrete recycled aggregate in order to actively recommend the use of concrete recycled aggregate. And using the recycled coarse aggregate among the recycled aggregate, the appropriate mixing time in the batch plant according to the substitution rate was derived. In addition, using recycled aggregate admixture in order to improve the drying shrinkage, did comparative analysis about physical and mechanical property of concrete.
Crosslinking was introduced into vinylized-mesoporous silica and recycled polyethylene. By introducing a vinyl group into the mesoporous silica, it becomes a material capable of inducing cross-linking with non-polar polyethylene. By synthesizing vinylized-mesoporous silica and inducing crosslinking with recycled polyethylene, a recycled polyethylene composite with improved physical properties than existing recycled polyethylene was synthesized. In addition, even when a small amount is added according to the grade of recycled polyethylene using vinylized-mesoporous silica, the crosslinking reaction proceeds and all physical properties are improved. Four types of vinylized-mesoporous silica were synthesized, and the shape, microstructure, and functional groups were analyzed by TEM, BET, FT-IR, and XRD. Using vinylized-mesoporous silica, three types of compounds were blended by crosslinking reaction with recycled polyethylene. In order to confirm the presence or absence of crosslinking, analysis was performed using XPS and FT-IR, and physical properties such as tensile strength, elongation, flexural strength, and flexural modulus were confirmed using a universal testing machine. As a result, by applying vinylized-mesoporous silica to recycled polyethylene in various grades, the weak physical properties of existing recycled polyethylene were overcome. By applying the vinylized-mesoporous silica, recycled polyethylene composite material that overcomes the weak physical properties to the normal polyethylene, it shows the optimal physical property index that can be used commercially. Therefore, it is expected that it can potentially increase the use of recycled polyethylene and recycle resources.
The purpose of this study is to present the method of utilizing the recycled aggregate that are obtained from waste concrete as the concrete aggregate. We manufactured the recycled aggregate concrete with compressive strength of over 300kgf/㎠ to increase its weaker strength than the normal concrete, and compared the physical features of the recycled aggregate concrete with that of the normal concrete. As a result of the study, the mechanical performances such as compressive and tensile strength were generally reduced as the mixing rate of the recycled aggregate increased; however, it was possible to manufacture the concrete with the compressive strength of 300∼600kgf/㎠ using the adequate mixing material such as unit quantity of cement, compounding water and silicafume. However, a continuous study on long-term durability performance is required to manufacture and utilize the recycled aggregate concrete for the structure.
In the present day scenario, concrete construction is rapidly becoming uneconomical and non sustainable practice, due to the scarcity of raw materials and environmental pollution caused by the manufacturing of cement. In this study an attempt has been made to propose recycled aggregates from demolition wastes as coarse aggregate in geopolymer concrete (GPC). Experimental investigations have been conducted to find optimum percentage of recycled aggregates (RA) in GPC by replacing 20%, 30%, 40%, 50% and 60% of coarse aggregates by RA to produce recycled aggregate geopolymer concrete (RGPC). From the study it has been found that the optimum replacement percentage of recycled aggregates was 40% based on mechanical properties and workability. In order to study and compare the flexural behaviour of RGPC and GPC four beams of size $175mm{\times}150mm{\times}1200mm$ were prepared and tested under two point loading. Test results were evaluated with respect to first crack load, ultimate load, load-deflection characteristics, ductility and energy absorption characteristics. Form the experimental study it can be concluded that the addition of recycled aggregate in GPC causes slight reduction in its strength and ductility. Since the percentage reduction in strength and behaviour of RGPC is meager compared to GPC it can be recommended as a sustainable and environment friendly construction material.
