The T-type topology is a three-level topology that has an advantage in terms of its number of switching device and its efficiency when compared to the neutral-point clamped (NPC)-type topology. With the recent increase in the usage of the T-type topology, the interest in its reliability has also increased. Therefore, a tolerance control for a T-type rectifier is necessary to improve the reliability of applications when an open-switch fault occurs. NPC-type rectifiers cannot eliminate input current distortion completely. However, the T-type rectifier is able to restore distorted current. In this paper, a tolerance control for the $S_{x2}$ and $S_{x3}$ open-switch faults of a T-type rectifier is proposed where it is advantageous in terms of efficiency when compared with other tolerance controls. The performance of the proposed tolerance control is verified through simulation and experimental results.
This paper proposes a synchronous switching technique for a Vienna rectifier that uses carrier-based pulse width modulation (CB-PWM). A three-phase Vienna rectifier, similar to a three-level T-type converter with three back-to-back switches, is used as a PWM rectifier. Conventional CB-PWM requires six independent gate signals to operate back-to-back switches. When internal switches are operated synchronously, only three independent gate signals are required, which simplifies the construction of gate driver circuits. However, with this method, total harmonic distortion of the input current is higher than that with conventional CB-PWM switching. A reactive current injection technique is proposed to improve current distortion. The performance of the proposed synchronous switching method and the effectiveness of the reactive current injection technique are verified using simulations and experiments performed with a set of Vienna rectifiers rated at 5 kW.
Buck power factor correction (PFC) converters, compared with conventional boost PFC converters, exhibit high efficiency performance in the entire range of universal line voltage. This feature has gotten more attention for eliminating the zero crossing dead angle of buck PFC rectifiers. Furthermore, bridgeless structures for the reduction of conduction losses have been proposed. The aim of this paper is to introduce a single-phase buck rectifier that simultaneously has unity power factor (PF) and bridgeless structure while operating in the continuous conduction mode (CCM). For this purpose, two auxiliary flyback converters without any active switches are applied to a bridgeless buck rectifier to eliminate the zero crossing dead angle and achieve unity power factor, low total harmonic distortion (THD) and high efficiency. The operation and design considerations of the proposed rectifier are verified on a 150W, 48V prototype using a conventional peak-current-mode control. The measurement results show that the proposed rectifier has nearly unity power factor, THD less than 7% and high efficiency.
The three-phase diode rectifier with capacitive filter is highly sensitive to line voltage unbalance. Because of its inherent nonlinear characteristics, small line voltage unbalance may cause highly unbalanced line current, causing detrimental effects on power quality. This paper presents a theoretical basis on this ′unbalance amplification effect′ and derives an analytical model of line current characteristics under unbalanced line voltage condition for various modes of operation. The results provide a basic guideline for optimal design of a three-phase diode rectifier with capacitive filter that is most commonly used for interfacing various power conversion equipments to power lines.
By this time, Diode Rectifier or SCR has been used to gain DC Voltage for Electrolysis Power. Generally DC Voltage is produced from rectifier shall be transformed before rectifier using step-down transformer to obtain adaptable DC Voltage, rectifier output. In the same way, rectifier using SCR shall obtain output voltage after step-down voltage through transformer and control of the SCR firing angle. Transformer shall be used for this two methods to adjust the voltage. But the size and weight of the transformer are increased in accordance with the increase of capacity, and the hardships are accompanied in workspace or transportation. Besides, only the value of input voltage is possible to be regulated, and the expectation of current control is almost impossible during Electrolysis. This study has conducted Design and Simulation to reduce the size and weight of transformer and to be enable voltage and current control of Electrolysis power through high-speed switching using Inverter, Electronics device.
A new soft switching technique that improves performance of the high power factor boost rectifier by reducing switching losses is introduced. The losses are reduced by air active snubber which consists of an inductor, a capacitor a rectifier, and an auxiliary switch. Since the boost switch turns off with zero current, this technique is well suited for implementations with insulated gate bipolar transistors. The reverse recovery related losses of the rectifier are also reduced by the snubber inductor which is connected in series with the boost switch and the boost rectifier. In addition, the auxiliary switch operates with zero voltage switching. A complete design procedure and extensive performance evaluation of the proposed active snubber using a 1.2[kW] high power factor boost rectifier operating from a $90[V_{rms}]$ input are also presented.
This paper presents a soft switching unity power factor PWM rectifier, which features reduced conduction losses and soft switching with no auxiliary switches. The soft switching are achieved by using a simple commutation circuit with no auxiliary switches, and reduced conduction loses are achieved by employing a single converter, instead of a typical front end diode rectifier followed by a boost rectifier. Furthermore, thanks to good features such as simple PWM control at constant frequency, low switch stress and low VAR rating of commutation circuits, it is suitable for high power applications. The principle of operation is explained in detail, and major characteristics analysis and experimental results of the new converter also included.

This paper proposes a simple unity power factor zero-voltage-transition (ZVT) pulse-width-modulated (PWM) single-phase rectifier, which features reduced switching and conduction losses. The switching loss reduction is achieved by a simple auxiliary commutation circuit, and the conduction loss reduction is achieved by employing a single-stage converter, rather than a typical double-stage converter comprising of a front-end rectifier and a boost rectifier. Furthermore, thanks to good features such as a simple PWM control at constant frequency, low switch stress, low Var rating of commutation circuits, and simple power circuit structure, it is suitable for high power applications. The principles of operation are explained in detail, and a major characteristics analysis and the experimental results of the new converter are also included in this paper.
In this paper, a new simple PWM method for Vienna rectifier is proposed. The previous SVPWM method for Vienna rectifier is very complex and difficult to implement. To solve these problems, a new single-carrier comparison PWM method for voltage control of Vienna rectifier is proposed. Because of using the only single carrier, implementation of the proposed PWM is very simple. In the proposed PWM method, carrier comparison parts of the PWM block is only changed from the 2 level PWM control block. The usefulness of the proposed PWM method is verified by the simulation and experiment.
The phase controlled rectifier using thyristor is suitable for the high capacity and low-cost system. However, the rectifier output voltage drop is influenced by the grid inductance effect. Supposing the commutation area voltage and current are analyzed, the grid inductance can be estimated using the proposed algorithm. This paper presents the grid inductance estimation method for improved commutation compensation control of the phase controlled rectifier, and the proposed control algorithm effectiveness is verified by simulation.
