A study on the determination of a representative location for monitoring the dissolved oxygen concentration in a aeration tank of sewage treatment plant (하수처리장 폭기조의 용존산소농도 모니터링 대표지점 선정에 관한 연구)

  • In order to determine the location of average concentration and distribution status of dissolved oxygen in the rectangular aeration tank of the sewage treatment plant was analyzed and the difference of dissolved oxygen concentration was remarkable at each location. Compared with the computational fluid dynamics analysis, it was found that the results were consistent with the measurement results by showing the difference of dissolved oxygen concentration between the locations. Based on the measured data, the representative location of dissolved oxygen in aeration tank was selected by using statistical analysis method and the representative location was expressed in three-dimensional coordinates(LWH : 25%, 50%, 33%) from flow direction and left wall. Also the difference between the dissolved oxygen concentration at the actual measurement location and the average concentration value of the entire aeration tank was founded, and the equations for calibrating the automatic measurement data considering the actual measurement location were calculated.

Performance Enhancement Study of a Final Clarifier by the Optimum Design of Inlet and Baffle Condition (유입구 및 정류벽 최적설계에 의한 최종 침전지 성능 개선 연구)

  • The effluent quality is directly affected by the separation of biological solids in a final clarifier because the majority of discharged $BOD_5$ and SS are virtually dependent on the results of biological solids in the sedimentation tank effluent. If a final clarifier is effectively designed and operated, the desired goal of clarification for wastewater can be achieved together with the cost reduction in the treatment of wastewater. To this end flow characteristics and the removal efficiency of SS are numerically investigated especially by the change of the inlet position and the installation of baffle to improve the performance of a rectangular final clarifier. The 2-D computer program developed in a rectangular coordinates has been successfully validated against experimental residence time distribution(RTD) curves obtained by tracing radio-isotope. The lowering of the inlet position weakens the density current and induces the settling of SS in the front zone of a clarifier. Thus the decreased traveling distance of the sludge increases the removal efficiency of SS in the effluent. The inlet baffle installed in the front region of clarifier prevents the short circuiting flow and induces to flow into the dense underflow, which eventually improves the effluent quality. In the case of lower inlet position, however, installation of baffle results in degradation of effluent quality. Consequently it is strongly recommended that in-depth numerical study be performed in advance for optimizing a clarifier design and retrofitting to improve effluent quality in a final clarifier.

A Study on the Motion Analysis and Lead-Filter Design for High Speed/Accuracy Movement of Gantry Robot (갠트리 로봇의 고속/고정밀 이송을 위한 모션분석 및 앞섬필터 설계)

  • Recently gantry-type robot with 3 axes rectangular coordinates have been studied in the many industrial production equipment and machinery fields. To acquire a good handling and motion performance of this robot, reducing the settling-time and securing the accurate-transfer positioning under high-speed conditions should be required. However when robot is moved in high-speed, the large inertia of robot can lead to serious vibration of robot's head. The time-delayed control characteristics of this robot can also lead to tracking error. In this research, the analysis of the effects of higher order positional-profile is carried out to assure high-speed performance and stiffness specifications. To remove the residual vibration caused by kinematic coupling effect of dual-servo gantry, we develop a dual-servo gantry of rotary type that moving frame of x-axis rotates about z-axis. In order to decrease the tracking error, the 3 type lead-filter through system identification was applied respectively. From the experimental results, it was shown that zero-order series leader-filter has the best performance about tracking error and settling time.

  • Time series data is a sequence of data points, measured typically at successive, spaced at time intervals. Many devices for an efficient exploration is developed according as the items of time series data increase. Among these devices, there is a Timebox widget as a representative device of dynamic query for interactive data exploration. Timeboxes are rectangular query region of interest. The users can draw the region of interest using simple mouse manipulation and the query result sets is displayed. But there is a limitation to represent the concrete query region and Timeboxes visualize the query region inconsistent with the mental model of users. To resolve these problems, we propose a new device called DQB(Dynamic Query Band). DQB is a qeury region consisting of user defined polyline with a thickness on time series data. This device is possible to concretely specify the query region. Also, it provides a simple and convenient interface and a good conceptual model.

  • Recently, augmented reality is divided into broadly marker based and markerless based as part of HCI (Human Computer Interaction). Markerless based is augmented object using natural features in real-world environment. On the other hand, Marker based is use to calculate easily the coordinates and exactly augmented object using flat marker of rectangular. However, marker-based image is provided due to the presence of the marker in a markerless, giving users a more less realistic and immersive view. In this paper, We research about combined diminished reality and augmented reality for Marker-Based Augmented Reality System Structure using Object Removal Tchnique in order to increase realistic and immersive view.

Comparisons between UPML and Liao's ABC in the FDTD method for 2D Cylindrical Coordinates (2D 원통형 좌표계를 위한 FDTD 방법에서 UPML과 Liao 흡수경계조건의 비교)

  • In this paper, the comparison between UPML and Liao's absorbing boundary condition in the FDTD(Finite-Difference Time-Domain) method was performed for the analysis of the 2D cylindrical coordinate system. Generally, it is known as the absorbing characteristics of the UPML is bro than Liao's absorbing boundary condition in the 2D rectangular coordinate. The simulation results in this paper showed that Liao's original absorbing boundary condition is better than other two absorbing boundary conditions, Liao's modified condition and UPML. We concluded that more numerical, theoretical studies, simulations and verifications for various absorbing boundary conditions will be needed to get more accurate results for the design of useful 2D cylindrical microwave circuits.

  • This paper is related to the correction of radiometric distortions induced by topographic relief. RADARSAT SAR image data were obtained over the mountainous area near southern part of Seoul. Initially, the SAR data was geometrically corrected and registered to plane rectangular coordinates so that each pixel of the SAR image has known topographic parameters. The topographic parameters (slope and aspect) at each pixel position were calculated from the digital elevation model (DEM) data having a comparable spatial resolution with the SAR data. Local incidence angle between the incoming microwave and the surface normal to terrain slope was selected as a primary geometric factor to analyze and to correct the radiometric distortions. Using digital maps of forest stands, several fields of rather homogeneous forest stands were delineated over the SAR image. Once the effects of local incidence angle on the radar backscatter were defined, the radiometric correction was performed by an empirical fuction that was derived from the relationship between the geometric parameters and mean radar backscatter. The correction effects were examined by ground truth data.

Numerical Simulations of Cellular Secondary Currents in Open-Channel Flows using Non-linear k-ε Model (비선형 k-ε 모형을 이용한 개수로 흐름에서의 격자형 이차흐름 구조 수치모의)

  • In the present paper, turbulent open-channel flows over longitudinal bedforms are numerically simulated. The Reynolds- averaged Navier-Stokes equations in curvilinear coordinates are solved with the non-linear $k-{\varepsilon}$ model by Speziale( 1987). First, the developed model is applied to rectangular open channel flows for purposes of model validation and parameter sensitivity studies. It is found that the parameters $C_D$ and $C_E$ are important to the intensity of secondary currents and the level of turbulent anisotropy, respectively. It is found that the non-linear $k-{\varepsilon}$ model can hardly reproduce the turbulence anisotropy near the free surface. However, the overall pattern of the secondary currents by the present model is seen to coincide with measured data. Then, numerical simulations of turbulent flows over longitudinal bedforms are performed, and the simulated results are compared with the experimental data in the literature. The simulated secondary currents clearly show upflows and downflows over the ridges and troughs, respectively. The numerical results of secondary currents, streamwise mean velocity, and turbulence structures compare favorably with the measured data. However, it is observed that the secondary currents towards the troughs were significantly weak compared with the measured data.

Development of Abdominal Compression Belt and Evaluation of the Efficiency for the Reduction of Respiratory Motion in SBRT (체부 정위방사선치료 시 호흡운동 감소를 위한 복부 압박기구 개발 및 유용성 평가)

  • Purpose: It's essential to minimize the tumor motion and identify the exact location of the lesions to achieve the improvement in radiation therapy efficiency during SBRT. In this study, we made the established compression belt to reduce respiratory motion and evaluated the usefulness of clinical application in SBRT. Materials and Methods: We analyzed the merits and demerits of the established compression belt to reduce the respiratory motion and improved the reproducibility and precision in use. To evaluate the usefulness of improved compression belt for respiratory motion reduction in SBRT, firstly, we reviewed the spiral CT images acquired in inspiration and expiration states of 8 lung cancer cases, respectively, and analyzed the three dimensional tumor motion related to respiration. To evaluate isodose distribution, secondly, we also made the special phantom using EBT2 film (Gafchronic, ISP, USA) and we prepared the robot (Cartesian Robot-2 Axis, FARARCM4H, Samsung Mechatronics, Korea) to reproduce three dimensional tumor motion. And analysis was made for isodose curves and two dimensional isodose profiles with reproducibility of respiratory motion on the basis of CT images. Results: A respiratory motion reduction compression belt (Velcro type) that has convenient use and good reproducibility was developed. The moving differences of three dimensional tumor motion of lung cancer cases analyzed by CT images were mean 3.2 mm, 4.3 mm and 13 mm each in LR, AP and CC directions. The result of characteristic change in dose distribution using the phantom and rectangular coordinates robot showed that the distortion of isodose has great differences, mean length was 4.2 mm; the differences were 8.0% and 16.8% each for cranio-caudal and 8.1% and 10.9% each for left-right directions in underdose below the prescribed dose. Conclusion: In this study, we could develop the convenient and efficient compression belt that can make the organs' motion minimize. With this compression belt, we confirmed that underdose due to respiration can be coped with when CTV-PTV margins of mean 6 mm would be used. And we conclude that the respiratory motion reduction compression belt we developed can be used for clinical effective aids along with the gating system.
