  • The purpose of this study is to suggest new methodologies for documenting locality in digital environment, reformulation the Cox's documentation model focused on cooperative acquisition of documentary heritage institutions. This study defines the concepts of locality, space and place, relation of collective memory to archives, and analyzes the four approaches of documentation comparatively. Based on these analyses, it suggests the categories of documenting locality, and the directions of archive portal design for collective memory of locality.

  • This study was conducted in Tateyama, Japan with on-site observation conducted by Professor Aizawa, who organized this locality movement. This research was focused on listening to people's explanations, observations and studying the related documentation. First of all, the locality of Tateyama City was formed by utilizing the historic records of the area. Through Namo Amitabha which was carved on the four-sided stone pagoda, the city formed the locality as the peaceful city. "The gift of the Sea" painted by Shigeru Aoki in this city contributed to the identity of this locality known as the 'city of art which the painter loved'. The reconstruction of localities through the documentation of the relics are as follows. Satomi Castle, which was discovered to be the setting of the famous fictional saga Satomi and the Eight "Dogs". The excavation and research of the ruins of forgotten World War II, is another example of reconstruction at this locality. This locality is seen as 'the city of peace' and was reconstructed through a positive and future oriented attitude. It is noticeable that the locality of Tateyama city was newly formed or reconstructed using local records and documentation relics in the area.

  • This study investigated Ulsan locality during Joseon by searching and analyzing various records related to the Ulsan port including old literature, documents, and maps, and oral records relating to traditional knowledge, as well as extracting keywords arranged by the time series and space to reenact Ulsan Port and Ulsan during Joseon. The study examined the characteristics of Yeompo, which served defense and trade functions through Waegwan in the former half of Joseon, Gaewoonpo, Seosaengpo, and Dosanseong, which underwent damage during Imjinwaeran and other wars in middle Joseon, and Bangeojin, which operated state-owned ranches and defense facilities including signal fires through to the latter half of Joseon, Jangsaengpo, which played the role of a whaling zone, and neahwang-naru, iron mine of Dalcheon, trying to reproduce the trajectory of the Ulsan during Joseon. Research on the locality transfiguration process of the port will help establish the locality of the entire Ulsan.

  • This article examines the cases of archive development by research institutions for overseas Korean studies from the perspective of documenting the locality and explores development plans. The study investigates the impact of the solidarity between overseas Korean studies institutions and Korea-related communities in the region on the expansion of archives and the practice of locality documentation, using the case of the Korean War Archive Collection at the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa Library. For this, it reexamines the implications of locality and locality documentation. In addition, it discusses the methods of Korean studies locality documentation emerging abroad, such as the locality where the two geographical areas of Korea and Hawaii are fused. Since 2023, the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa Library has been forming a network with the Korean War Veterans Association Hawaii Chapter 1 (KWVA) to collect and archive materials related to the Korean War. This is a case where the relationship between the archivists and the donor community has been developed to practice documenting the locality regarding Korean studies abroad. It proposes locality documentation as a way to expand archives in overseas Korean studies institutions that inevitably rely on the collection of records and discusses the importance of solidarity with Korea-related local communities. Finally, it shares the role of the record management subject and the implications found through the case.

  • Lots of cultures, memories, histories of the local life have disappeared. Some sectors of universities and religion have keep their records in manuscript archive only. On the other hand records of public sectors were at least able to be managed by the records management law. Citizen's groups and academic bounds were also roles to get public records strong. However can we just describe whole body with only public records? As records management law a record of private sector which has value of preserving can be managed under national protection. Yet establishment of local archive is not obligate. Only stressing on public records is like what dictatorial government acted in past years. It is what we ignore diversity and request of community. We need to move our view that we have focused on public and central sectors to private and local sectors. Local records management based on locality could help to complete the entire puzzle. The way complete the puzzle is various and wide spheres including from cultural space to being extinct village. Locality is defined as the property in certain area or distinctiveness of locals. Establishing production strategies is as important as collecting records produced over the past years for local archiving. Local archiving has to be regionally conducted in phase. Moreover common wealth and recognition of communities are reflected in the acquisition process. In next to archiving local organizations and private records according to collection policy, methodology on local archiving needs for archive management and use in various public and private fields. This methodology could be possible by building a local archive networking tool. It is true that Local archiving is not familiar and clear yet. If we can turn the effort for public records we have made to endeavor for private sectors, we might expect big fruits in private sectors. We easily emphasis on globalization or internationalization, our daily lives start on our villages. Setting aside our small communities, such a puzzle of the whole would never be completed. This is good time to begin finding lost puzzle for future. The key that can find lost puzzles be held in archiving localities.

  • This paper surveyed records and archives which the railroad stations in Busan possesses and illustrated the status of them. Also we examined whether records and archives of railroad stations contain the memories of localities or not. We visited 17 railroad stations in Busan and we found that 1) the archives in railroad station are fugitive archives 2) the records or archives are classified into five categories, 'station's history', 'report on station-adjacent area', 'report of drive and transport', 'photos', and 'other materials' 3) the volume of such archives in 17 stations are different because of disposal or missing 4) Each archives in same category have same form. Especially the descriptions and images in 'station's history', 'report on station-adjacent area' represent much to memories of locality, but we also must examine the public records, private records related railroad station in Busan for documenting localities. To bridge the gap we suggest to collect oral records by relevant persons.

  • The purpose of the study is to design a space-based locality documentation model. It begins with analysing the changes of directions and strategies of locality documentation through literature surveys. Based on the analysis, a new paradigm of locality documentation is suggested in digital environment. It then suggests space-based documentation model, i.e., 'spanDoc Model (SPAace-based Networked Documentation Model)' which represent the new paradigm. The model focuses on planning the framework of use and accumulation of locality documentation.

  • The outdoor design conditions for the locality are the basic problem in the design of air conditioning system. The ideal solution to the basic problem is to design a building that has a capacity at maximum output just equal to the load which develops the most severe conditions for the locality occur, but in most cases, economics interferes the attainment of the ideal. Studies of weather records show that the most severe conditions do not repeat themselves every year. The weather conditions of principal cities such as Seoul, Inchon, Suwon, Taegu, Chonju, Ulsan, Kwangju, Pusan and Mokpo in Korea have been analyzed to determine the probability of occurrence of certain temperatures according to recent 10 years $(1960\∼1969)$ weather records. The outdoor conditions for winter air conditioning design are shown on Table 2. The outdoor conditions for summer air condioning design are shown on Table 7. Heating degree days are shown on Table 10 and 11.

  • This study aims to examine the capability of organizing local records. Based on literature reviews, this study identified that space can be a useful context of records. Accordingly, it designed a records model on additional space entity. It attempted to organize five sample records based on the space of the port of Busan (Busanhang) using CIDOC CRM (6.0). In conclusion, it presented that a space entity provides relations across other entities. As such, it is possible to propose a defining space entity when designing records model that can support the understanding of records' contexts.
