  • The data mining is a new approach to extract useful information through effective analysis of huge data in numerous fields. We utilized this data mining technique to analyze medical record of 35,671 people. Whole data were assorted by BMI score and divided into two groups. We tried to find out BMI risk factor from overweight group by analyzing the raw data with data mining approach. The result extracted by C5.0 decision tree method showed that important risk factors for BMI score are triglyceride, gender, age and HDL cholesterol. Odds ratio of major risk factors were calculated to show individual effect of each factors.

  • For the purpose of managing non-point sources, water quality control basins (WQCBs) are often designed to capture rainfall events smaller than extreme events. The design rainfall statistics and runoff capture rates for sizing a WQCB should be derived from the local long-term continuous rainfall record. In this study, the 31-year continuous rainfall data recorded in Busan is analyzed to derive the synthesized runoff capture curve incorporated with SCS curve number.

  • Bluetooth low energy (BLE) beacon is an actively push-to-broadcast electronic signal and can be used for object identification. This paper uses such beacon-based identification and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies for the elder health management service system to simplify the user interfaces and steps for preventive elder care. In the proposed system, an elder's family member, caregiver, or medical worker can conveniently and quickly record daily health management information. Besides, through the statistics and analysis of the data on the back end of the system, it is helpful for the elderly to refer to the data of daily care management and future management trends. Similarly, it is also an essential reference data for system maintenance and the new preventive health care services development.

  • We propose a speech emotion recognition method for natural human-robot interface. In the proposed method, emotion is classified into 6 classes: Angry, bored, happy, neutral, sad and surprised. Features for an input utterance are extracted from statistics of phonetic and prosodic information. Phonetic information includes log energy, shimmer, formant frequencies, and Teager energy; Prosodic information includes pitch, jitter, duration, and rate of speech. Finally a patten classifier based on Gaussian support vector machines decides the emotion class of the utterance. We record speech commands and dialogs uttered at 2m away from microphones in 5different directions. Experimental results show that the proposed method yields 59% classification accuracy while human classifiers give about 50%accuracy, which confirms that the proposed method achieves performance comparable to a human.

  • Purpose: The study was performed to identify the relationship between particulate matter and allergic diseases among adolescents in South Korea. Methods: The study used the raw data from the Korean Youth Risk Behavior Web-Based Survey which was performed in 2018. The data of a total of 60,040 students were analyzed, using SPSS 21, by descriptive statistics, t-test, χ2 test, and logistic regression. Results: Allergic diseases among adolescents were showed to be significantly related to gender, age, school record, stress, BMI, insufficient sleep, depression, current drinking, current smoking, and particulate matter concentrations. Conclusion: The findings suggest that a health promotion program that considers particulate matter concentrations be developed to improve the health status of adolescents with allergic diseases.

  • This paper is concerned with the method of estimating lifetime distributin from field data for products with multiple modes of failure. When product failures occur within warranty period, a manufacturer can obtain failure-record data; failure times, causes of failure, and covariates. Since these data are seriously incomplete for satisfactory inference, that is, only failures occured during warrantly period may be recorded, it is usually necessary to incoporate the failure-record data by taking a supplementary sample of items obtained following up a portion of products that survive warranty time. The log linear function is considered as a model for describing the relation between failure time of a product and covariates. General methods for obtaining pseudo maximum likelihood estimators(PMLEs) for the parameters are outlined and their asymptotic properties are studied, and specific formulas for exponential or Weibull distribution are obtained. Effects of follow-up percentage on the PMLEs are investigated. Extensions to calendar time warranty or calendar and obtaining time warranty are also considered.

  • Objectives: This study was aimed to present the experts' opinions for the successful application of Korean traditional medical practices (KTMPs) to the International Classification of Health Intervention (ICHI). Methods: Two doctors of Korean Medicine and two health information managers who had tried coding 131 KTMPs using ICHI participated in the focus group discussion. The remarks from the discussion were summarized according to the thematic analysis method. Results: The participants expected ICHI to be mainly used for statistics when applied to TKMPs. It can be used for payment systems as well, but it was expected that additional work would be required. They thought the current version of the ICHI did not sufficiently reflect the KMTPs of the real world, and even the interventions already included in the ICHI were not explained enough in the system. They thought it would not be easy to explain more KTMPs within the current structure of the ICHI, but they also said it seemed possible. In the process, rather than adding entirely new stem codes, it would be better to generate new combinations of the existing codes, to suppose subdivided codes, and to utilize the include terms or extension codes. Conclusions: For the successful introduction of ICHI, clarifying the definition of each intervention of KTMPs is a top priority. In addition, it is necessary to continue the matching work of ICHI - KMPTs and also required to make this effort together with the field of traditional medicine and complementary medicine worldwide.

  • The objective of this study was to analyze the temporal and spatial characteristics of agricultural drought by tracking the daily reservoir storage in Chungnam province. All daily records of the percent of reservoir storage from 2000 to 2015 were collected for 130 irrigation reservoirs from the RIMS (Rural Infrastructure Management System). The temporal change of province-wide average reservoir storage and the statistics showed that the annual average and minimum percent of reservoir storage in 2015 were extremely low like as those in the historical drought years of 2001 and 2012. The minimum reservoir storage on record was a 41 % at the end of September and remained far less than its historical average even until the end of the year. Furthermore, the annual average reservoir storage (68.3 %) recorded the lowest on record since 2000. In addition, about half of 130 major irrigation reservoirs in Chungnam fell into the risk of water shortage below 30 % full, and, in terms of annual minimum reservoir storage, the 79 reservoirs yielded lower storage in 2015 comparing with the measured in another drought year, 2001. On the other hand, irrigation reservoirs of comparatively worse storage condition revealed to be mostly located on the inside, such as Cheongyang-gun and Hongsung-gun. Conclusively, the low reservoir storage, still far below average even on December 2015, induced a serious concern about that more extreme drought would happen in the next spring.
