  • Unexpected postoperative changes, such as growth in rib hump, has been occasionally reported after corrective surgery for scoliosis. However there has been experimental data for explanation of these changes, nor the suggestion of optimal correction method. This numerical study was designed to investigate the main correlating elements in operative kinematics with post-operative changes of vertebral rotation and rib cage deformation in the corrective surgery of scoliosis. To develop a scoliotic spine model automatically, a special program for converting normal spine model to scoliotic spine model was developed. A mathematical finite element model of normal spine including rib cage, sternum, both clavicles, and pelvis was developed with anatomical details. The skeletal deformity of scoliosis was reconstructed, by mapping the X-ray images of a scoliosis into this three dimensional normal spine and rib cage model. The geometric mapping was performed by translating and rotating the spinal colume with the amount analyzed from the digitized 12 built-in coordinate axes in each vertebral image. By utilizing this program, problems generated in mapping procedure such as facet joint overlapping, vertebral body deformity could be automatically resolved.

  • During last a decade, there has been increased demand for 3D-printed medical devices with significant improvement of 3D-Printer (also known as Additive. Manufacturing AM), which depend upon human body features. Especially, demand for personalized medical material is highly growing with being super-aged society. In this study, 3D-reconstructed 3D mesh image from CT/MRI-images is demonstrated to analyse each patients' personalized anatomical features by using in house, then to be able to manufacture its counterpart. Developed software is distributed free of charge, letting various researcher identify biological feature for each areas.

  • We revisited a recent dust emission observed at a main-belt asteroid P/2010 A2 in terms of dynamical properties of dust particles and large fragments. This is a continued research that we made a presentation at the Korean Astronomical Society 2016 Spring Meeting, but we have strengthened the dynamical analysis of the ejecta to afford the conclusive evidence for the enigmatic phenomenon. We thus constructed a model to reproduce the morphology of the dust cloud based on the dust dynamics, and succeeded in reproducing the observed morphologies in different epochs over several years. For further analysis, we reconstructed the proper motion of large fragments with respect to the dust emission source estimated from our dust model. We found that (i) the dust cloud morphologies and (ii) observed trajectories of fragments are reasonably explained only when we assumed that both were ejected from a position where no object was detected from any observations. This result suggests that the original body was shattered by an impact, leaving only debris into space. In this presentation, we will compare our results with impact laboratory studies and provide an impact interpretation of the P/2010 A2 activity.

  • Artifact corrections including normalization and attenuation correction were important for quantitative analysis in Nuclear Medicine Imaging. Normalization is the process of ensuring that all lines of response joining detectors in coincidence have the same effective sensitivity. Failure to account for variations in LOR sensitivity leads to bias and high-frequency artifacts in the reconstructed images. Attenuation correction is the process of the correction of attenuation phenomenon lies in the natural property that photons emitted by the radiopharmaceutical will interact with tissue and other materials as they pass through the body. In this paper, we will review the several approaches for normalization and attenuation correction strategies.

  • The purpose of this research is to understand the gender identity expressed in Madonna music video texts and performances. Madonna has reconstructed the fluid identities through the variations of body, images, costumes, and attitudes . The results are as fellows; ① Her punky sexuality is to be seen the flash trash look, kitsch fashion, which reconstructs a good/bad taste, modesty/immodesty, the relations of under/outer wear using bawdy sexuality through her early Virgin tour. ② Her Heterosexuality is to be seen the glamourous look, traditional images of women, which represents the passive feminity of patriarch. ③ Her sadomasochism sexuality is to be seen the bondage look of dominatrix image, which deconstructs sexual taboos; represents sexual power. ④ Her bisexuality is to be seen androgynous look, the 3rd species look using masculinity/feminity signifier, which deconstructs the stereotypes of gender roles. ⑤ Her homosexuality is to be seen the fetish fashion by drag and lesbian, which deconstructs the dichotomy of normality/perversion; opens a possibility of women subjectivity of sexual desires.

  • A 63-year-old patient was admitted with a sternal fracture and mass. On evaluation, most of the body of the sternum had been destroyed by a tumor. Radical resection of the sternum was performed and part of the major pectoral muscles adherent to the sternal tumor was also resected. The chest wall defect was reconstructed with mesh, bone cement, and a titanium rib plate system. Reconstruction with this method seemed to be an appropriate procedure to prevent instability of the chest wall.

  • Hyperglycemia-induced hemichorea (HGHC) is a rare but characteristic hyperkinetic movement disorder involving limbs on one side of the body. In a 75-year-old woman with a left-sided HGHC, conventional brain MR imaging showed very subtle T1-hyperintensity and unique gadolinium enhancement in the basal ganglia contralateral to movements. Multi-parametric MRI was acquired using pulse sequence with quantification of relaxation times and proton density by multi-echo acquisition. Myelin map was reconstructed based on new tissue classification modeling. In this case report of multi-parametric MRI, quantitative measurement of myelin change related to HGHC in brain structures and its possible explanations are presented. This is the first study to demonstrate myelin loss related to hyperglycemic insult in multi-parametric quantitative MR imaging.

  • Iris diagnosis based on the color and texture information is one of a novel approach which can represent the current state of a certain organ inside body or the health condition of a person. In analysis of the iris images, there are critical image artifacts which can prevent of use interpretation of the iris textures on images. Here, we developed the iris diagnosis system based on a hand-held typed imaging probe which consists of a single camera sensor module with 8M pixels, two pairs of 400~700 nm LED, and a guide beam. Two original images with different light noise pattern were successively acquired in turns, and the light noise-free image was finally reconstructed and demonstrated by the proposed artifact removal approach.

  • Background and Objectives This study was conducted to gather three dimensional images from computed tomogram in detecting and gaining information about fish bones. Materials and Methods Thirty-nine fish bones and 2 chicken leg bones were used. Bones sandwiched between the cotton sheets were placed into the 3 plastic boxes. Computed tomogram of the bones in the boxes were reconstructed three-dimensionally by Xelis (Infinitt, Korea) to make images of MPR, MIP and VR images. The images were compared with real chicken bones and fish bones as to possibility of detection, finding of location and orientation, and evaluation of shape and calculation of size. Results All 41 bones were detected in all reconstructed images. Distance to the bones from reference point can be measured and orientation can be checked. Shapes were similar between matched images of all real bones. Conclusion The results indicate the usefulness of 3D reconstruction technique in getting informations about fish bones.

  • In this paper, we propose a 3D human body reconstruction and refinement method from the frames extracted from a video to obtain natural and smooth motion in temporal domain. Individual frames extracted from the video are fed into convolutional neural network to estimate the location of the joint and the silhouette of the human body. This is done by projecting the parameter-based 3D deformable model to 2D image and by estimating the value of the optimal parameters. If the reconstruction process for each frame is performed independently, temporal consistency of human pose and shape cannot be guaranteed, yielding an inaccurate result. To alleviate this problem, the proposed method analyzes and interpolates the principal component parameters of the 3D morphable model reconstructed from each individual frame. Experimental result shows that the erroneous frames are corrected and refined by utilizing the relation between the previous and the next frames to obtain the improved 3D human reconstruction result.
