  • As the value of the multimedia data is getting high, the study on the semantic recognition and retrieval about the multimedia information is strongly demanded. In this paper, we build the motion ontology and adopt it for representing the meaning of the moving objects in video data. By referencing the WordNet structure, we extend its semantic meaning based on the reclassification of motion verbs, which are used to represent the semantic meaning of moving objects. The represented information is receded in OWL/RDF(S). Here, we could expect the 'Is-A' and 'Equivalent' reasoning of the data as we use the ontologies. And the semantic representation about the moving objects is possible through the video annotation using ontology. And we tested the accuracy of the system comparing with the key-word based system. As a result, we could get the approximately 10% improvement of the system performance.

  • This paper describes a computer vision system based on active IR illumination for real-time gaze discrimination system. Unlike most of the existing gaze discrimination techniques, which often require assuming a static head to work well and require a cumbersome calibration process for each person, our gaze discrimination system can perform robust and accurate gaze estimation without calibration and under rather significant head movement. This is made possible by a new gaze calibration procedure that identifies the mapping from pupil parameters to screen coordinates using generalized regression neural networks (GRNNs). With GRNNs, the mapping does not have to be an analytical function and head movement is explicitly accounted for by the gaze mapping function. Futhermore, the mapping function can generalize to other individuals not used in the training. To further improve the gaze estimation accuracy, we employ a reclassification scheme that deals with the classes that tend to be misclassified. This leads to a 10% improvement in classification error. The angular gaze accuracy is about 5°horizontally and 8°vertically. The effectiveness of our gaze tracker is demonstrated by experiments that involve gaze-contingent interactive graphic display.

  • Since the amount of E-mail messages has increased , we need a new technique for efficient e-mail classification. E-mail classifications are grouped into two classes: binary classification, multi-classification. The current binary classification methods are mostly spm mail classification methods which are based on rule driven, bayesian, SVM, etc. The current multi- classification methods are based on clustering which groups e-mails by similarity. In this paper, we propose a novel method for e-mail classification. It combines the automatic category generation method based on the vector model and the dynamic category hierarchy construction method. This method can multi-classify e-mail automatically and manage a large amount of e-mail efficiently. In addition, this method increases the search accuracy by dynamic reclassification of e-mails.

  • Recently it is difficult to draw an improvement for customer satisfaction because the ratio of satisfied customers increases in customer satisfaction survey. In addition, the effectiveness of practical application of customer satisfaction survey decreases due to its constitution limitation on its data analysis. In order to solve these problems, it is necessary to develop a novel research to identify the strategy meanings and find dissatisfied factors of satisfied customers using the satisfied customers' reclassification. This study focuses on the satisfied customer segmentation based on Latent Class Analysis (LCA). The case study with high-speed internet service customers show that the satisfied customers are divided into three subgroups using LCA and we draw meaning results such as satisfaction and dissatisfaction factors through analyzing each group. This study is expected to play the role as the groundwork for the revitalization of customer satisfaction survey as well as improving customer satisfaction management.

  • In the GORRAM, the estimation of resource requirements for wartime equipment is based on the ELCON of the USA. The number of vulnerability groups of ELCON are 22, but unfortunately it is hard to determine how the 22 groups are classified. Thus, in this research we collected 505 types of basic items used in wartime and classified those items into new vulnerability groups using AHP and cluster analysis methods. We selected 11 variables through AHP to classify those items with cluster analysis. Next, we decided the number of vulnerability groups through hierarchical clustering and then we classified 505 types of basic items into the new vulnerability groups through K-means clustering. This paper presents new vulnerability groups of 505 types of basic items fitted to Korean weapon systems. Furthermore, our approach can be applied to a new weapon system which needs to be classified into a vulnerability group. We believe that our approach will provide practitioners in the military with a reliable and rational method for classifying wartime equipment and thus consequentially predict the exact estimation of resource requirements in wartime.

  • This study was performed to investigate the recycling activity of solid waste. Three study area were selected, which were Dobonggu in Seoul, Siheung City and Kimpogun. The amount of recycled out of the solid waste generated was between 0.02 kg per capita/day -0.10 kg per capita/day. The recovery rate of the waste paper was 42.7%, which was the highest, followed by glass bottles, cans and plastics. The waste paper was the most important item concerning its weight percentage and amount of sales. It comprised more than 60% in its weight and sales amount out of the total recycled item. Glass bottles placed the second. Amount of sale for the recycled item was less than 5 Won per capita/day, this is very low. The Recycling Drive Association, a private organization was mainly organized by public administrational basis and its activity was simply concentrated on the reclassification of the collected recyclables. Generally, citizen's participation and the member's satisifaction was low since there was no economic incentives. In this paper, some strategies were suggested and evaluated to increase citizen's recycling activity.

  • Increasing traffic volumes and excessively high speeds on national highways through small towns often increases the frequency of accidents. Extensive paved areas, narrow sidewalks, median barriers and little greenery have resulted in a dangerous and destructive living environment for residents. The reason for this problem is that throughways were expanded without considering the harmony between the throughways and the small towns. Construction of bypasses and reclassification of highway functions would solve the problem by reducing vehicle speeds in small towns, but this method is too costly and time consuming. Therefore, this study analyzes national highways through small towns as a case studies using positive guidance in order to improve safety and develop alternatives. As a result of the case study, the biggest problem was observed to be the excessively high vehicle speeds, This study also identified places were information should be given or posted but is currently absent. Therefore, this study concludes that notional highways through small towns need installation of speed reduction facilities and additional information provision to drivers.

  • VDF(volume-delay function) is one of the most important factor to improve the reliability of traffic demand estimation because it is for estimation of link travel time based on the traffic volume variation. Because VDF of link except for freeway is applied as the parameter of BPR(bureau of public road) of U.S., it causes to deteriorate the accuracy of traffic demand estimation. The purpose of this paper is to establish new parameter of VDF based on the real-surveyed traffic data in order to improve the problem of the existing VDF. We suggest the reclassification of road hierarchy, the approach of traffic survey, the estimating method of VDF parameter, and the improvements of new VDF application. The new VDF allows us to estimate more realistic traffic situation in parts of demand, travel time and path between origin-destination.
