  • Today, rechargeable lithium-ion batteries are an essential portion of modern daily life. As a promising alternative to traditional energy storage systems, they possess various advantages. This review attempts to provide the reader with an indepth understanding of the working mechanisms, current technological progress, and scientific challenges for a wide variety of lithium-ion battery (LIB) electrode nanomaterials. Electrochemical thermodynamics and kinetics are the two main perspectives underlying our introduction, which aims to provide an informative foundation for the rational design of electrode materials. Moreover, both anode and cathode materials are clarified into several types, using some specific examples to demonstrate both their advantages and shortcomings, and some improvements are suggested as well. In addition, we summarize some recent research progress in the rational design and synthesis of nanostructured anode and cathode materials, together with their corresponding electrochemical performances. Based on all these discussions, potential directions for further development of LIBs are summarized and presented.

  • The purpose of this study is to research and develop PEO/PVDF electrolytes and $LiMn_2O_4$ composite cathode for all-solid state lithium rechargeable battery. We investigated AC impedance response and charge/discharge cycling of $LiMn_2O_4$/SPE/Li cells. The cell resistance was decreased so much initial charge process from 0% SOC to 100% SOC. The radius of semicircle of $LiMn_2O_4$/SPE/Li cell was so much from initial state to 20th cycling. The discharge capacity of the $LiMn_2O_4$ composite cathode was 144mAh/g based on $LiMn_2O_4$.

  • Lithium diffusivity of the silicon (Si)-based materials of Si-Cu and $SiO_x$ (x = 0.4, 0.85) with improved interfacial stability to electrolyte have been determined, using variable rate cyclic voltammetry with film model electrodes. Lithium diffusivity is found to depend on the intrinsic properties of anode material and electrolyte; the fraction of oxygen for $SiO_x$ (x = 0.4, 0.85), which is directly related to electrical conductivity, and the electrolyte type with different ionic conductivity and viscosity, carbonate-based liquid electrolyte or ionic liquid-based electrolyte, affect the lithium diffusivity.

  • This paper suggests an improved switch architecture for the rechargeable battery protection IC. In the existing protection IC, charging and discharging switches composed of the CMOS transistor and the diode are external components. It is difficult to integrate the switches in a CMOS process due to the large chip-size overhead and inevitable parasitic effects. In this paper, we propose a new switch architecture of the MOSFET's 'diode connection' method. The performance and chip-size overhead are proved to be adequate for the fully integrated protection IC.

  • Emerging demands for rechargeable battery for various applications needs more effective battery management system such as the prediction of the usable time about a battery. Many prediction methods have been suggested but none of them come into bounds of reliability. In this paper, we proposed a new prediction algorithm for the remaining capacity of a rechargeable battery by using the transformed curve based on its impedance. Hardware for monitoring a battery was designed and made. Through a series of experiment, we showed the effectiveness of the proposed prediction algorithm of a battery's remaining capacity.

  • Conducting polymer films grown from various aromatic compounds have been evaluated as overcharge protecting additives for lithium ion rechargeable batteries. The polymer films were grown electrochemically under the conditions similar to those encountered during the overcharging processes of lithium batteries and subsequently characterized by potentiodynamic, electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance, electrochemical impedance spectroscopic, and scanning electron microscopic experiments. Results indicate that bicyclic and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons would be poor candidates for inhibitors, while biphenyl, terphenyl, and benzene derivatives displayed excellent performances. Mixed polymer films grown from o-terphenyl and p-xylene show the best performance among the candidates.

  • During the past decade, substantial research effort has been directed into the development of rechargeable lithium batteries. Although some improvements in cycle life and efficiency have been achieved, the reversibility of the lithium electrode remains as a significant problem in aprotic solvent based electrolyte. The major problems limiting cycle life are short circuits resulting from growth of lithium dendrites, and macroscopic shape changes during the recharge process. As an anode material of lithium rechargeable battery, amorphous carbon materials have been studied extensively because of their high electrochemical performance. The polyacene materials prepared from phenol refine at relatively low temperature(550∼750$^{\circ}C$) show a highly Li-doped state up C$_2$Li state without liberation of Li cluster. So it has largely layered distance 4${\AA}$. The Li storage mechanism as well as the large hysterisis observed in the voltage-capacity profile of the amorphous carbone materials are still the subjects of controversy. We prepared each polyacene material various temperature and investigated electrochemical property. The mole ratio of [H]/[C] is 0.027∼0.015 range.
